Chapter 3: Confused Emotions
His body throbbed pulsed with pain as he tore through the trees, branches whipped against him. His mind was clouded with a thick fog. He growled and sped up hoping to clear his thoughts from how close Shinji was to Kagome, but it was not use. He felt his heart stop at the thought of what would have happened to Kagome if he had not gotten there in time. Inuyasha shook his head and placed his hand on one of his wounds, and looks at his hand to find it coated richly with his blood, he grunted and felt himself grow dizzy. Finally his legs gave way and Inuyasha stumbled, falling to the ground. He grunted again and pain panting from exhaustion. He scooted back against a large tree; its roots were old and high enough for him to rest within them. His bangs hide his face from any who dared to look, shadowed and cloaked in the darkness. He sighed heavily.
`I can't tell her I love her…what if she doesn't love me? W-what if she loves someone else?'
He shook his head and closed his eyes, trying to shut out the sudden emotional pain that shot through his body at the thought. He relaxed into the tree as much as his injures would allow and opened his eyes, looking longingly at the stars.
"Kagome…."
Little did he know Kagome was under looking up at those same stars wondering where he was. The wind blew her dark locks into her face but she paid it no mind and continued to stare at the sky.
`Inuyasha…why do you run from me? It hurts…do you realize you hurt me when you push me away?'
Determinedly she turned away from the stars and pulled a small black pack over her shoulders. She pulls her hair into a ponytail and looks at Sango. Sango stares her in the eyes, sisterly worry coloring her eyes. Her voice though firm was tainted with concern.
"Are you sure you want to do this? Kagome…"
Kagome cut her off with a sharp look.
"Yes I am sure. There is nothing anyone can do to stop me."
Sango sighed amusedly and nodded her head.
"Fine then, take Kirara at least and when you find him send her back."
Kagome smiled at Sango and hugged her.
"Okay, I will. Keep Shippo with you."
Sango hugged her younger `sister' back and nodded.
"Alright, now be off before he notices you are leaving."
Kagome smiled again and Kirara changed into her larger form allowing Kagome to slip on to her back. Kirara mewed gently as she sensed Kagome's worry and determination to find Inuyasha; she lifted her head and scented the air then shot off into the sky. The wind treaded through Kagome's hair and it flowed behind her like waves. Kirara followed Inuyasha's scent and found him in no time. The two landed and Kagome turned to the fire cat.
"Go back to Sango now Kirara."
Kirara seemed to mew her good luck and took off again. Kagome moved almost silently to Inuyasha's side. His eyes were closed and his ears moved with her every step. She held back a sigh of relief he was alert at least. She kneeled beside him and brushed his bangs from his face adoringly. His eyes shot open and he watched her as she jumped in slight surprise. Inuyasha grunted.
"What are you doing here Kagome?!"
Kagome sighed and moved to sit in front of him; she deftly undid his ties and paid no mind to him. She took her bag off and opened it. Inside was a first ad kit and some other essentials. She gently cleaned the blood from his wounds and put medication within the injury on his side. Inuyasha closed his eyes and winced now and then. Though he couldn't help but think how it would be if she wasn't cleaning his wounds…if she was caressing his body. He shuddered with desire and stiffened, Kagome paused and looked up at him with that same innocence she had since he met her. He wanted her so bad; her voice broke through his thoughts.
"Did I hurt you?"
Inuyasha huffed and growled slightly.
"No ya didn't just get on with it!"
Kagome paused a moment before going back to her work, but not before Inuyasha caught the slight hurt look in her eyes. He sighed and looked off into the forest as she cleaned him up.
`I'm no good for her.'
Kagome soon finished cleaning and dressing his wounds, she sat beside him and he saw her shift a bit out of the corner of his eyes, she tapped his shoulder and captured his eyes with hers. Her voice was soft, barely heard over the sounds of the night.
"I need to know Inuyasha….Do you love me?"
