6: Humans in the Castle

"M'Lord, this bag was found near where the human was captured." Jaken said. "Bring it to me." Sesshomaru unbuckled the bag and on the top was a neatly rolled scroll. He scanned the words and thought `Midoriko, I already know the truth, but I will never love a human.'

Sesshomaru often wondered why he cared about Rin. She had tried to save him although he was a demon. She had risked her life to obtain the food that he never ate, yet he had been rude to her and he had seen those times when she felt hurt, but she still returned the next day. Then, he had found her lying in a pool of blood surrounded by the bloodthirsty wolves. The wolves were not as brave as they seemed, for they whimpered and scattered at a single glare.

He had surprised himself when he revived her. Tenseiga had pulsed against his hip and he could not fight the urge to revive the girl that had cared for him. The next thing he knew, he was holding the unconscious but alive girl to his chest while her heart began to beat again and her breath returned. Now, she respected him as a human would respect their father. She had softened him; he would admit that, but not enough for him to love her like a daughter or to even like any other human.

Digging deeper in the bag, Sesshomaru found some lacy objects. One had two bowls in it and was white while the other was in the shape of a triangle and was blue. A picture of the human wearing these jumped into his mind and something began to swell. `This Sesshomaru will not be tempted by a human!' he thought disgustedly trying to shake the image away. He quickly threw the things back in the bag and threw the bag in the dungeons for giving him such a…bad image.

Kagome's vision was blurry, but as it began to clear, she found a young human girl peering up at her. "Pretty lady, what's your name?" The little girl was wearing a bright yellow kimono with blue crescent moons covering it. "My name is Kagome." Kagome replied, wincing from the pain in her side.

"Rin's name is Rin." the little girl called cheerfully. Kagome's eyes grew wide when she remembered that it was almost about two weeks until her `time of month' again. She didn't even have her `products' with her. "No…" "What's wrong, Kagome-chan?" the girl asked worriedly.

`Great time for that time of the month, eh?' Kagome groaned. "Rin, you will find out when you're older." Rin pouted but soon became happy again. "Does Kagome-chan like flowers?" "Yes, flowers are beautiful." The pain in her side was dissipating. The girls began to talk about their favorite flowers when an ugly imp scuttled in. "Human! You are not supposed to come in here!" Jaken shrieked.

He grabbed the girl by the neck of her kimono and dragged her away, but not before Sesshomaru saw them. Sesshomaru's eyes were red. "Jaken, can you tell me why I see my ward being dragged around like an animal?" Jaken shook with fear. "Um, Lord Sesshomaru…Rin ran into the room although you directed that she not do so and I had to get her out of there."

Sesshomaru's foot met Jaken and Jaken soon found himself kissing the wall passionately. The wall cracked when it met Jaken's lips. Kagome saw it all. "Poor wall…" she whispered. "Rin, go to your room." The girl nodded and sped off while Jaken chased after her. "Wench, why did you not tell me that you were in heat?" "…" "Speak!" "I forgot. Hey, you didn't ask…"

"Demons may do…strange things…when around…one in heat." Sesshomaru managed. "Rin, is she your ward?" "This Sesshomaru owes you no explanations but, yes, she is my ward." Kagome looked at him in wonder. How could a taiyoukai that hated humans have a human ward? She shrugged off the thoughts since she knew that she could probably never answer them. From past experiences, she knew Sesshomaru to be a cold…arrogant…mysterious…handsome…sexy…where& #8230;were…her…thoughts…going?

(A/N: A loud plunk sounded as they landed in the gutter.)
