All I Ask of You
Chapter 1
The soft glow of the lowering sun spread over the land and the fabulous gardens of a great and mysterious castle. A slight wind stirred, making it look as if all the flowers and blades of high grass were bowing to the regal figure that was walking among them. Slowly, he took silent, deathly steps through the garden, his gaze looking straight ahead as if seeing nothing of what surrounded him. The breeze blew harder as if demanding he pay attention to the flowers that were bowing, worshipping his celestial being. His long, flowing, silver hair swayed slightly with the wind, but never was there a strand of hair that would come out of place. Beautiful, penetrating golden eyes stared indifferently at the beauty of nature, and as if seeing his indifference, the wind slowed its tirade, just leaving the barest hint that it was still there.
The young lord walked determinedly onward, wanting to reach a secluded area so as to contemplate what his father had told him not but ten minutes ago. He, the soon to be lord of the Western Lands, was to be married off to some women he had never met before and all for the sake of an alliance to fight an upcoming war… `You will be able to bed the one you love when you find her, as will she with her true love. But for the sake of this alliance, you must first bed her'. Those were the exact words his father had spoken to him and felt a great humiliation from them. For his father to even think that he, Sesshomaru, would bed anyone but the one he was married to was foolhardy. He refused to make the same mistake that his father had…
He sighed suddenly, a heavy and burdened sound that rushed between his lips. The only positive side to this whole arrangement was the fact that the girl was a Magicker, and a powerful one at that. With her powers he would breed full-blooded demon pups and they would have magick on their side to enhance their natural abilities. `All in all,' the young lord thought with little optimism, `this is a rather ingenious web my father has thought to weave.' He watched a few koi swim in the pond that he had unconsciously stopped next to. He stood there, idly watching them as they swam to and fro, eating what food they found in the pond, completely oblivious to the world outside of their waters.
His concentration was averted by a strange scent carried along by the wind. It wasn't demon and there were many odd scents all jumbled together. The mass was coming closer… `Surely they have not arrived already…' Sesshomaru thought to himself in amazement. Their messenger had only left this morning with the news of the approval of the alliance. He would not have made it to the village until well after mid-day…
Sesshomaru scoffed at his absentmindedness. `They posses magick, of course they would get here well before expected!' He started to turn away from the castle, hoping to not be apart of the welcoming comity but another thought entered his mind, refraining him from doing so. Turning back around, he gracefully walked back in the way he had come.
A young woman stood in front of the palace next to her father, her violet gaze sweeping over everything she could see of it. “It's absolutely beautiful… And you say they built this without magick? It must have taken several years at least.”
“That it did,” her father replied, no real emotion entering his voice. “Now stop gawking Hikari and pay attention to what's going on. You need to have your mind focused for the task that Inutaisho will set before you,” her father reprimanded harshly.
Holding back a very `smart-ass' retort, Hikari lifted her chin in defiance and stared frigidly at the front doors of the palace. `The least he could do is allow me to look around. It's because of him that I'm marrying someone whom I've never met. For all he and this Inutaisho know, we'll kill each other on our wedding night.' The thought made her smirk about but she quickly relaxed her muscles lest her father notice. Unconsciously, she grabbed her long braid of brown hair and brought it over her shoulder, idly playing with. A quick shock of electricity into her hands had her throwing it back over her shoulder and standing stiff as a board. It was at this moment the doors began to open.
Two dog demons with black hair pushed the large doors apart to reveal a beautiful silver haired dog demon with a single dark blue stripe adorning each cheek while above his eyelids, the marks were red. His intense liquid gold eyes looked first at Hikari's father and then at Hikari herself. A small smile crept onto his mouth as he began to descend the stairs at the front of the castle. “It's wonderful to see you again, old friend,” Inutaisho greeted as he walked up to them. “This is your daughter I presume?”
“Always a pleasure,” he responded, taking a short bow before the demon. “And you assume correctly. This is my daughter, Hikari, and she has been training hard these past few days to prove herself worthy to be wedded to your son.”
Inutaisho laughed lightly. “You won't need to worry about that, her beauty in itself will be enough to win my son over, I assure you.”
Hikari blushed a deep crimson at the compliment and muttered a thank you while her father acted as though he hadn't heard the words being spoken about his daughter. “Now, Inutaisho, please instruct my daughter on what you would have her do and the manner in which she will carry it out.”
“Nonsense!” Inutaisho said, waving off the suggestion. “I plan to get to know my new daughter-in-law before sending her off to do some haphazard task. Besides, I do believe that she would like to meet her new mate before the wedding day.” Inutaisho looked at Hikari pointedly.
“Yes I would,” Hikari said happily with a deep bow to the demon lord. “Thank you very much Lord Inutaisho.”
“Not a problem child,” he responded with a smile upon his face. “ Come. I do believe that Sesshomaru will be more than happy to meet you.”
“Lord Inutaisho,” Hikari's father interrupted as he started to turn. “If you will excuse me, I must see to my troops for the upcoming battle. We have preparing to do.”
“You do not wish to see your new son-in-law? Or see your daughter put to the task that I have set for her?” Inutaisho questioned.
Hikari's father shook his head whilst saying, “I'm sorry my lord but we have much to do before the battle in three days time. Please excuse me for my rudeness.”
Inutaisho nodded his head once in acknowledgement and watched as Hikari's father bowed and walked off, shouting orders at his troops all the while.
“Please forgive my father lord Inutaisho,” Hikari said while watching her father disappear amongst the vast multitude of soldiers. “As you can see he likes to be prepared ahead of time and ready for anything.”
Inutaisho grunted out his acknowledgement and then turned, walking back toward the castle. “Come Hikari,” he said over his shoulder. “I have much to show you in a little amount of time. Your test will be started within the hour.”
Hikari nodded and jogged up to the dog demon, asking some questions as to what it was like to be a lord and other such polite converse.
