All My Love Couldn't Save You
Ch. 1
It was still tonight; quiet. Nothing was making any noise. The birds weren't singing their good-nights, the crickets hadn't come out to chirp, and not even the fireflies were out to dance. It was as if everything was waiting. But for what?
Sesshoumaru narrowed his eyes at his surroundings. It couldn't be because of him. The silence stretched far too long for it to be his doing. The crickets had still chirped and the fireflies had still danced around him. Tonight there was nothing, not an insect in sight.
A rustle of leaves in the trees to his left caught his attention. He gave no sign that he was aware of another presence; he continued looking forward, though all of his senses were trained on that tree. He couldn't smell anything but the delicious scent of cucumbers and melons. He could feel no aura, hear no noises. It must've moved on.
Turning, Sesshoumaru began to walk out of the clearing. That is until the sound of something dropping behind him caught his attention, making him stop. He searched the intruder's aura. No ill intent, just curiosity. Slowly he turned around his eyes looking for the visitor. His eyes rested on a kneeling demoness. He inhaled the fragrance of cucumbers and melons. The scent was hers.
Slowly the figure looked up at him. Icy green eyes peered up at him with curiosity. She looked around as if checking for intruders and stood fully. She was tall, maybe a few inches shorter than him. She was also scantily clad. Wearing only what looked like tiger furs over her chest and torso, as well as covering her waist down to mid-thigh. She had two sword hilts sticking out from behind her shoulders. They looked to be sheathed to her back in an X formation. She had no markings on her face, but a white feather on her forehead, two black stripes from her temples to her upper cheeks, and four black painted-on claw marks across her face. Her red hair hung down her thighs and two sections of it framed her cheeks, while two sections of black framed her forehead. She looked like tora, but until he asked he couldn't tell.
"What are you doing on my lands wench?" Sesshoumaru asked icily. She cocked her head to the side a bit as if to question him. "Answer the question."
"Hunting." She pointed out like it was the most obvious thing while pointing to the forest.
"You're hunting on my lands?" Sesshoumaru asked again.
"With my tribe, yes." She added not even caring that she wasn't allowed to tap into Sesshoumaru's reserves without permission.
"You do know that you aren't permitted do that? I could kill you where you stand and you wouldn't even know what was coming." Sesshoumaru threatened while cracking his knuckles.
Her only response was to straighten her posture and widen her stance. With a growl Sesshoumaru charged. She merely stood there letting him come. When Sesshoumaru was within seven feet of her, like lightning she unsheathed her swords and twirled them in her hands. Sesshoumaru paused at her actions to draw Toukijin. He charged again, this time bringing Toukijin down in a sweeping arc across her chest. He watched as she cross her swords across her and pulled them apart while pushing the X out at him. The blast met Sesshoumaru's head-on and they both paused to watch the energies dual. The blasts pushed at each other relentlessly, but the energies canceled each other out with an explosion.
Sesshoumaru raised Tenseiga to shield himself from the blast. The energy pushed against Tenseiga's barrier, but Sesshoumaru flicked his wrist, Tenseiga cutting through the force. As the dust settled Sesshoumaru scanned the area for the wench. Instead of her body laying limply on the ground or her holding her injuries, he found a cocoon of feathers where the wench was standing. It was covered in debris from the blast, but looked to be stable. Slowly the feathers parted to reveal the wench. She shook off what now appeared to be wings and folded them against her back.
"What are you?" Sesshoumaru asked with Toukijin still held close should she decide to charge.
"Tora and taka." She answered.
"You're a Halfling of two demon breeds. Disgusting." Sesshoumaru spat. She narrowed her eyes at him. She walked forward and paced her palm against his forehead, covering his crescent.
"See with your eyes, not with your heritage. Upbringing cannot determine the person." She said quietly and pulled her palm from his forehead. Sesshoumaru growled and snatched her wrist from mid-air.
"You dare to touch this Sesshoumaru's person. I should kill you now." She glared at him in challenge. Stepping closer she looked over his face.
"Then why don't you? I've heard tales of how cruel and ruthless you are. Show me. Show me where that cold hearted bastard I hear about is. Because I don't see him!" She yelled into his face. In seconds Sesshoumaru had her neck in his grip.
"How dare you address me so informally. I am the Lord of the West-" The female cut him off.
"Yet you act like a child! You are the Lord of the West and should act as such." She cried out desperately. Sesshoumaru paused for a moment. She was a stupid wench, what did she know about him? She was a monster with the face of an innocent human. She was nothing like him or his kind. So, why? "Your mother loved you, your father abandoned you for that half-breed, and InuYasha just paid no heed to you. Your childhood was horrible, I know, but that doesn't give you the right to take that out on everyone." Sesshoumaru roared ferally and threw her away from him.
"You know nothing of me. You are just a wild animal with a deceiving face." Sesshoumaru growled. She stood calmly and stretched her wings.
"Believe what you will, but I won't forget how much you said I meant to you." She extended her wings and lifted herself from the forest floor.
"Who are you?" Sesshoumaru growled, taking a deep breath to gain control.
"Shinjiru." She replied before turning toward him once more. "I miss you, really, I do." With that she flew off into the night.

Before reaching the outskirts of the village, Shinjiru landed in a clearing and braced herself against the front of a tree. She cried out as her wings folded and sunk back into her skin. She paused behind the tree line to catch her breath and stretch her shoulder blades. Composing herself she made her way into the village and to her hut, ignoring the stares of the other less understanding demons.
"Shin, where were you?!" Sitora asked from the doorway to the hut. She was still in her hunting garbs, which also consisted of tora furs over her chest, torso, and covering her waist to her knees. Her top had sleeves made of tora fur, but the fur on her robes were of white tora, while Shinjiru's were of orange tora. She had four slash marks painted down her face horizontally and three crossing her neck to her chest. She had on black boots about to her shins with silver slashes across the fronts. Her black ears twitched lazily atop her head, occasionally showing the silver stripes on the backs. Her tail swung behind her showing her agitation. The silver stripes on black fur shimmered under the light of the moon.
"Hunting some old demons." Shinjiru replied cryptically as she walked past her sister into their shared hut.
"Old demons? What are you ranting about now?" Sitora asked as her sister reapplied the paint for the ritual.
"Ranting? I'm not ranting, I'm stating fact. There is a difference onee-san dearest. Though your miniature brain can't comprehend that." Sitora just glared at her sister's back.
"Miniature." Sitora snorted. "And I was told I was the immature one."
"Sitora-san, Shinjiru-san. You have a visitor." A male voice called from the entrance to the hut. Sitora looked at Shinjiru, who just shrugged before walking to the entrance.
"May we help you?" Shinjiru called from beside her sister as they got a look at the traveler. He was male with long silver hair down to his backside. Atop his head sat two adorable silver kitsune ears that twitched with the village's activity. He was dressed in white haroi and hakamas, finished off with white shoes at his feet. A silver tail swished behind him. Looking up, amused golden eyes peered down at them.
"Yes, I was a friend of your father's and have come to visit his two daughters. I happened to hear your tribe was having a celebration to thank Katora. I hope I'm not intruding." He replied scratching the back of his neck.
"Well actually we are kinda-" Shinjiru was cut off by an elbow to the ribs. She glared at her seemingly clueless sister.
"Of course not. We always welcome strangers to the village who have come to praise our god. Please come in." Sitora moved aside to let the stranger in. Shinjiru and her sister argued silently after him. Shinjiru's accusing eyes were silenced by another elbow to her rib cage. She let out a small groan and held the offended area.
"We didn't catch your name." Shinjiru asked, rubbing the sore skin and muscle. He turned from his inspection of their hut and smiled brilliantly, completely missing Sitora's sigh.
"My name is Youko. I fought in the Great War with your father, he was a great man." Youko appraised them. Shinjiru just snorted and turned to go to her room.
"Oh, Shinjiru, since your not doing anything important. Why don't you inform the tribe's chief of our guest and tell him he'll be attending the festival. I need to get him the proper clothing and the right paint so he can properly pay his respects." Sitora finished off with a lecherous grin to her sister, who just gagged before walking out.
Outside Shinjiru muttered to herself about her hentai sister. She stood stiff as images of Sesshoumaru in Youko's situation came to mind. She sighed before shaking her head. "I'm being corrupted."
As she reached the chief's mansion, she nodded to the guard outside.
"Hey Keisatsu, I need to ask the chief a question, could you inform him of my presence?" She asked with a small smile. Keisatsu was her best friend in the village; outside of family of course. He too was a half tora, but unlike her, he was also half inu.
Keisatsu smiled while replying, "Sorry, Shin. The chief has been out for hours helping with the preparations. Daidaiiro is here; would you like me to call him?" At the chief's son's name Shinjiru grimaced.
"Yeah." She said rather hesitantly. "Hurry up too." Keisatsu laughed while walking into the spacious mansion. It was a well know fact throughout the village that Daidaiiro had aspirations of 'purifying her blood' as he called it. Daidaiiro's infatuation with Shinjiru was always met with silent glares from Sitora and flat out turn downs from Shinjiru. "Yuck. Disgusting perverted-Konnichiwa Daidaiiro." Shinjiru mumbled until Daidaiiro came into hearing range. She was always forced to be pleasant with him, despite her dislike of him.
"Tora no Taka, good evening! What gives me the pleasure of this late night visit?" His voice was hinting, but his eyes gave way to disgust. He was obsessed with her figure and strength, but repulsed by her imperfection as a half taka.
"Actually I was looking for your father. Do you know where I can find him?" Daidaiiro's face fell.
"He should be in the square helping with the festival. If you are going to wait for him, why don't you come inside and join me for some sake." He offered gesturing inside. From behind him Keisatsu snickered.
"Iie. I have very important business with him. Oyasumi nasai." Just to get on Keisatsu's and Daidaiiro's nerves, Shinjiru ran up to Keisatsu and kissed his cheek. "You too Kei." Shinjiru whispered against his cheek. She could feel his skin heat at her close proximity as well as hear Daidaiiro's growls. With a smile she turned and ran back to the center of town. She could hear Daidaiiro reprimanding Keisatsu as she went.
After finally finding the chief-which she had to go back and forth from one end of the village to the other four times. She told him of her sister's guest and asked for his stay. Which took some time because she had to assure him-on her sister's behalf-that he would behave? When she reached the hut again she found Sitora watching Youko decorate his bare chest with painted on claw marks. Watching very intently. If her sister was male and Youko was female she was sure Sitora would have a prominent mokkori.
He's allowed to stay. The chief said it is your responsibility to make him behave. Lucky you. I'm going to walk into the forest call me when the festival starts. Shinjiru told her sister telepathically.
*Why aren't you staying?* Sitora asked absently.
I'd rather get jumped by Keisatsu, than watch you drool over the kitsune. By the way, you might want to wipe your chin. Shinjiru laughed as her sister glared at her in the doorway while wiping her drool off her chin. She walked to the edge of the village and turned to watch the families get ready. With a small sigh she turned to the forest and disappeared into the darkness.
~*~*~*~
After passing a few miles of forest, Shinjiru's wings burst from her back and she took flight. It felt so good to be able to fly on a night like this. There was just a hint of cloud covering the night sky and a small breeze, letting her glide once in a while. The fireflies were finally out. She was disappointed when she found none on her hunt, but now that they were out it made her smile. The forest beneath her was abuzz with creatures readying for their nocturnal activities or just getting ready to sleep.
"Do you always just glide around after confronting someone?" A silky voice called form behind her. Shinjiru stopped her glide and flapped her wings twice to turn around. There was Sesshoumaru. He still dressed in his royal robes with his armor and floating there on his youki cloud. She never understood that thing.
"Sometimes." She told him quietly while looking toward the forest below her feet.
"Why so shy all of a sudden? You certainly had no qualms with yelling in my face not three hours ago." Sesshoumaru smirked at her silence. Not so brave now was she. "Now that I have your attention, I want my questions answered." She nodded.
"Ask away."
"Who are you and what is your relation to my past?" Sesshoumaru eyed her. She was still in the strange garment and wearing the paint.
"I am Shinjiru and I knew you." She replied curtly with clipped words, leaving him no real answer.
"How did you know me?"
"I was trained with you for a short time during the Great War." She replied again this time looking up at him.
"I remember no such event. You are lying." Sesshoumaru accused. She chuckled.
"My father was the falcon general to your father, Lord Inutaisho. He died during the war and I was kicked out of the castle grounds." She whispered with a small smile as if remembering the better days.
"Why were you sent away? It is strict code for the ruling Lord to provide for fallen army member's families." Sesshoumaru stated.
"I was a half of two breeds and my mother had died in her village. I was more falcon than tiger, but the other staff members forcefully 'escorted' me off the grounds. I tried to inform you of this, but you had started to dislike me at the time. Despite the fact that you gave a piece of yourself to me." She laughed bitterly.
"A piece of myself?" Sesshoumaru asked with narrowed eyes.
"Here, this will help you to remember." She replied reaching behind her to draw a sword. She tossed the sword to him and watched him examine it. She watched the realization flash across his face.
~*Flashback*~
"Sesshoumaru-sama!" A small, blindfolded Shinjiru cried out as she was led down another hallway.
"We're almost there." A slightly taller Sesshoumaru said calmly to her. If you listened the frost was beginning to coat his words, but his emotions weren't completely concealed from his features. Excitement was clearly written on his face. "Wait here." He said, releasing her hand to open a door.
After checking the inside for occupants, Sesshoumaru returned to Shinjiru and took both her hands and led her inside the room. With a huff Shinjiru stopped and took the blindfold off.
"Why are we in the dojo? Training is done." Shinjiru asked as she looked about the small room.
"You’re going to ruin the surprise." Sesshoumaru said with a small scowl. He took her to a case and told her to sit. After making sure she did so, he turned to the case covered in weapons of various degrees of skill and craftsmanship. He lifted a sword from the corner of the case. Sitting in front of her he laid it before her.
"For me?" Shinjiru asked as she looked at the finely crafted sword. At his nod, she picked up the sword and stood. She did a few katas to test it before smiling at him.
"Do you…um…like it?" Sesshoumaru asked, a light blush tainting his cheeks. She walked toward him, stopping just inches from him, and smiled.
"I love it." She whispered with a small blush before kissing him.
Sesshoumaru stood still as she pulled away from the chaste kiss. He watched her leave with a giggle before he put his fingers up to his lips. He finally melted to the floor and sighed.
~*End Flashback*~
"I still have the fang of yours. The one you had carved into a feather and tied to my sword hilt." She watched Sesshoumaru look at the sword hilt before looking at her.
"Where-" He watched as she pulled something from beneath the fur covering her chest. It was the fang on a chain.
"It came off one day while I was battling. I was driven into a rage when the boar demon ate it. So I mutilated him and gutted him. It made it into a necklace so I could keep it closer." She explained as he took the fang into his hand. She looked at his eyes and frowned at the conflicting emotions there. "Sesshoumaru-"
"Stop. That was my past and this is my present." He said dropping the fang and handing her the sword. She sheathed it and turned around to fly off. His clawed hand gripping her arm kept her from moving far.
"Release me and I'll disappear again." She said without turning to him.
"No." He said before pulling her toward him. She struggled to free herself, but only made him tighten his grip.
"Let me go!" Shinjiru yelled against him. He only smirked and let his cloud slowly dissipate. "What are you doing?!" She yelled watching as the cloud slowly melted into the air.
"You have two choices. Stop struggling and let us float here or continue and have to keep me up here. Your decision?" She just huffed and continued struggling.
The cloud completely disappeared and her wings flapped vigorously to keep them airborne. But she soon grew tired and just curled her wings around them as they fell. She couldn't see anything past the feathers and Sesshoumaru's chest. She was held tightly to his chest and her arms were crossed in-between them. She hugged herself closer as she felt them break through a tree branch. She felt the splinters dig into the skin beneath her feathers and into her bare legs.
Sesshoumaru watched her wince as they fell and wrapped his youkino around her legs to shield them from the treatment. With a small grunt, he felt them land; or really felt her land on his chest after his back hit the forest floor. He felt her start to get up.
"Can you sit up so I can pull my wings out from under you? Your not light you know." She said pushing against his chest to try to pull her wings out from under him.
"Why don't you get up off me? You're not light either." He asked instead of rising.
"I'd love to, but I can't get up without taking my wings with me. So unless you get up I'm stuck here." She replied distractedly as she continued pulling.
"Well I can't get up unless you do so we're both stuck." He watched her still to glare at him.
"Kami you're impossible." Shinjiru huffed and grabbed his shoulders. Bracing herself against him, she held in a scream as she pulled her wings back into herself. He held her waist watching her as she exerted herself. He could feel the wings slide out from beneath him as they were absorbed back into her skin. "Itai…" Shinjiru finished after they were fully absorbed into her. She pushed off of him and stood, rotating her shoulders. He followed soon after her and just stood there watching her.
"Why do you do that to yourself?" Sesshoumaru asked after watching her wince again.
"Not that you really care, but my village is for toras exclusively and they don't take kindly to birds. So in order for me to stay I have to keep my wings hidden at all times unless absolutely necessary. If I walked around with them out I'd be pushed out of another home. Comforting to know you're not the only one who doesn't like me, huh?" She said as she walked away from him. He followed after her in silence.
~*~*~*~
A few miles away from the village, Shinjiru turned on him.
"Would you stop following me?! Tonight is the village's Katora festival and visitors aren't exactly welcome." She said. He raised an eyebrow.
"Your tribe is on my lands, would it not be respectful to allow me entrance to the village's festival?" He asked with a small smirk.
"The only way you'd be 'allowed' in is if you were invited." He looked at her pointedly. "Oh no. No. Uh-uh. Nope. There is no way I'm inviting you to a festival in a village where only two people really like me. And there are a lot of people in that village."
"And who are these two who accept you?" He asked as he walked closer to her.
"My sister and Keisatsu. Daidaiiro doesn't really count." She added thoughtfully.
"Who's Daidaiiro?" He asked with a puzzled expression.
"He's the chief's son. He has aspirations of 'purifying' me." He looked at her questioningly. She sighed. "He wants to mate me to 'fix' my tainted blood." She completely missed Sesshoumaru's growl.
"And you want him t-"
"Eww! Don't even finish that sentence. I despise that…thing. He only wants my body and strength. My sister and I outmatch many of the villagers and he wants to tap into that, but I won't submit to him." Shinjiru growled out. She missed Sesshoumaru's smile of satisfaction.
"Is there any at your village who you would welcome their advances?" Shinjiru looked at Sesshoumaru's emotionless face curiously. He was up to something.
"Only Keisatsu, but we don't really think of each other that way. He's more the brother I never had. He never meant to me as much as y-" She cut herself off. He wanted no more of her, but then, why was he still here talking to her? Stubborn taiyoukaimake up your damn mind.
"So there's no one who desires you…that is welcomed?" Sesshoumaru asked looking to the forest.
"For the love of Kami! No! No one wants me there so if you'll leave me I'll-" A pair of soft lips covered hers before she could tell him to go away. She struggled against the arms wrapping around her waist to pull her closer to his chest.
Sesshoumaru growled against her mouth. He pulled her against his chest and licked at her lips; asking for once instead of taking. She was still stiff against him, but she was starting to respond. Her mouth opened tentatively and she moaned when his tongue caressed hers.
Shinjiru cursed herself before wrapping her arms around Sesshoumaru's neck. He was supposed to push her away so she could suffer in silence. This wasn't totally unwelcome, though. She pushed her tongue against his and heard his almost inaudible groan. Getting braver, she stepped further into his embrace and ground her hips into his.
At her advances, Sesshoumaru moved his hand up the back of the tora fur covering her chest while the other fondled her breast through the fur. When she arched against him Sesshoumaru cut the ties holding the furs together at her back. Pausing his actions, he slid the material down her arms and off her chest while commenting to himself how glad he was that her swords were easily taken off. He threw the sheathed swords away from them before resuming the kiss, not giving her a chance to protest if she wanted to.
Shinjiru groped down his stomach for the ties holding his armor to his chest. She loved how the muscles on his torso jumped under the armor at her touch. Finding the ties, she fiddled with them before throwing the sash aside. She untied the armor ties before lifting it off him and setting it aside. She parted his haroi and under kimono and pushed it off his shoulders, breaking the kiss to nip at his neck and shoulders.
Sesshoumaru couldn't believe her. No female had ever been strong enough to just lift his armor off him without his help. Half the time he had to take the damn thing completely off himself. Pushing his stray thoughts aside, he tossed his haroi off his arms and pulled her against him again. He ran his hands down her back, enjoying her moan in mid-nip. He leaned over her shoulder to look at what his hands were doing as she moved further down his chest. Shinjiru paused to look at his face.
"If I'm in heat, I'll leave you right here." She threatened seriously. He shook his head with a small smirk.
Nodding, Shinjiru kneeled before him and kissed at his stomach before removing his hakamas. He pulled her up and backed her into a tree trunk. He held her fast as he shred the furs covering her thighs and lift her legs to wrap around his waist. He held her hips as he kissed her hard before thrusting quickly into her.
Shinjiru broke the kiss to cry out, but not in pain. She moaned as Sesshoumaru just sat there.
"Move." She groaned out pushed her hips against his. The moist moss covering the bark was soft against her back. She waited for the friction it would cause against her skin.
Sesshoumaru snapped out of his thought and pulled out before thrusting back into her sharply. His pace was hard and demanding, but she just kept up and begged for more. At her request, he tapped into his youkai speed and pounded harder into her. As he felt her walls tremble around him he looked to her neck and growled against himself.
As their climax washed over them, Sesshoumaru kissed her hard to keep them both from marking one another. She responded willingly and cried against him before stilling as she was swept away. A few more thrusts later, Sesshoumaru stiffened against her and emptied himself within her. He leaned against her, licking at her pulse. She shivered in pleasure.
*Shin, the festival's starting. Hurry up before the chief gets angry. What are you doing anyway?*
Shinjiru chuckled against Sesshoumaru's neck. Nothing, just taking a walk. A very pleasant walk. I'll be there in a few minutes.
"Shin?" Sesshoumaru asked.
"That was my sister. The festival is starting and the village's chief is very punctual about those things. If I don't show up I'll get kicked out for sure." She said licking at his shoulder. She felt him pull out of her and cried out.
"Are you hurt?" He asked letting her stand, but held her hips to steady her.
"No." She gasped out. She saw him smirk, but it soon turned to a frown.
"I thought you were a virgin?" She looked up at him disbelievingly.
"I thought I was too. There was no barrier?" He shook his head. "I was never raped, the only times I was drunk were with my sister, and I never willingly did this with anyone else."
Sesshoumaru thought. She molded to him perfectly and quivered around him like she had done it before. It felt so familiar being inside her, but why? Pushing it aside, he picked up his haroi and draped it across her shoulders. She smiled up at him lightly.
They dressed in silence. She offered his haroi to him, but he waved it off. Shrugging, Shinjiru put it back around her and tied it off with an extra lace from inside her boots.
"Are you sure you don't want it?" She asked as he turned to leave. He turned back and walked up to her. He laid a hand on her cheek.
"Keep it. Next time I want to see you in this. Just this." He kissed her one last time before disappearing. Shinjiru sighed and ran toward home.
