There was a void in Kikyou's life for a long time, the kind of void that she got used to after five long years of being alone.

 

Only five? It felt like fifty…

 

Finishing college and starting a new job, Kikyou didn't expect to make friends. Her old roommate, Tsubaki, who she found herself working with a lot, wasn't tolerable company for long periods of time. Her breaks were down to the Starbucks on the lower level for some coffee.

 

That's where he was that day…

 

Kikyou got the same order everyday, so she wasn't surprised that they had memorized her order within a week. But when another regular doctor invited her to sit with him, she couldn't help but feel a little awkward.

 

That void disappeared the second we started talking…

 

A new routine had been formed with that one gesture, everyday at break the two doctors would talk, and the others working at the hospital had begun to think of it as a relationship. They trusted each other even if they only knew one another in passing.

 

We did trust each other…

 

And whatever happened beyond there, happened.

 

Everything happened.

 

And neither of them were alone anymore.
