Birthday Surprise
Why did it feel like she was forgetting something?Chapter # 9
Birthday Surprise
That’s what she wondered as she lay in her bed that morning, staring at the ceiling. And just as Inuyasha walked in to tell her breakfast was ready, a image of her father flashed before her eyes. And she sat up straight, startling Inuyasha and yelled.
“DAD!”
The whole house had heard her outburst, and it had every one of the occupants of the house running up to her room. Mizu and Sam being the first to reach it.
“Kagome? Are you okay!?” they both asked at once.
“Get me a phone! Quick!” she said, flinging the covers off her to reveal her black tank top and red pair of boxers. “Hurry up!”
“Alright, here.” Sam said throwing it towards her.
She caught it with ease, and started dialling, pressing talk she pressed it to her ear hurriedly.
Riiiiiiiiing Riiiiiiiiing Riiiiiiiiing
And then.
“Hello?”
“Dad!” Kagome yelled. Happy to see she caught him.
“Kagome? Hi, what’s the problem?” “Are you still coming down?”
“Absolutely. I wouldn’t miss my little girl’s birthday for nothing.”
“I’m not a little girl anymore, Dad.”
“You always will be to me.”
“Good point.” She laughed.
“Say hi to Souta for me.” “Alright hold on.” She turned to said boy. “Dad says hi!” she yelled at him, making Souta and her father over the phone laugh.
“You never change Kagome. I’ll be up around 5.”
“Alright. See you then.”
“Love you.”
“Love you too dad. Bye.”
“Bye.”
Click.
< /b> “Oh my god.” Sam whispered, rushing over to Kagome and hugging her. “I am sooo sorry!” he said, kissing the top of her head.
“For what?”
“I completely forgot it’s your birthday!”
“No big deal.” Kagome said smiling, pushing him back slightly.
“Well, I didn’t forget.” Josh said. “I’ve got dinner reservations.”
“Really?” Sam said.
“Yup.”
“Thank god! I’m so glad someone remembered.” Sam exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air.
“And I’ve got the whole day planned for us.”
“Us?” Kagome asked, wondering if he meant all of them.
“Yeah. Me, Sam, Jake and you. Remember, we do that every year.”
“Oh right. Sorry forgot. Well. Lets get ready then!” Kagome said, pushing them all out so she could get dressed. She paused when she saw Inuyasha’s confused face.
“Don’t tell me you’ve never had a birthday!” she snapped, pulling him into the room and closing the door.
“Can’t really say I have. At least . . .Not that I can remember.”
“Poor thing.” she whispered. “Birthday’s are the absolute greatest. It’s when your friends and family celebrate the day you were born. No one ever did that for you?” she asked, sitting on the bed beside him.
“Not really. I’m a half-breed Kagome. Why would they celebrate me being born?”
“Cuz, half-demon or not, everyone is worth celebrating for. Do you even know when you’re birthday is?”
“Um . . .”
“Of course not.” she answered for him. “They didn’t even have days then, let alone months or years.” Then she smiled. “How old are you anyways?”
“I don’t think you’d be very happy with the answer.”
“Come on, you look about . . . 28, maybe 29. I can’t be too far off.”
“You forgot the 50 years I was stuck to a tree.”
“Those don’t count cuz you didn’t age.”
“Alright then.”
“So, how old are you?”
“28?” he offered with a goofy grin.
“Inuyasha.”
“Alright, alright.” he said putting his hand up in defence. “I’m twohundredandfiftythree.” he said fast enough that maybe she wouldn’t hear.
“What?”
“I said I’m 253.”
“253!?” she yelled, jumping off her bed and landing on her bad leg. Winching and drawing in a small breath she kept her eyes locked on his.
“Holy shit.”
“I told you, you wouldn’t like the answer.”
“Like it? You’re over 2 centuries old!”
“Would you please lower your voice!?” he yelled, pinning his ears down and clamping his hands over them.
“Sorry, but I mean . . .come on. You only look a year older then me.”
“And how old are you?”
“28.”
“Hmm.” he said, smiling. “Perfect.” he said more to himself then to her.
“Perfect? For what?” she asked, and his eyes went wide when he realized she heard him. He blushed and looked away.
“Nothing.” he said. And she laughed.
“For someone whose 253, you sure do blush a lot.” she said, walking over to her closet.
“What would you expect?” he snapped.
“Wait a minute.” she said, pulling her head back out of the closet, and he realized she was topless, making another mental image of her breasts pop up in his mind, making him blush again.
“You’re 253 and still a virgin!?” she yelled, laughing a little. “I’m only 28 and I’ve done it to many times to count!”
“Alright! Too much information!” Inuyasha yelled, clamping his hands over his ears again. But her laugh still made it there.
“You’re such a goof.”
“Yeah, but I’m your goof.” he said that a little too quickly, and it had her head snapping up in his direction.
“What?” she asked, stunned.
“N-Nothing!” he said, quickly leaving the room and closing the door a little to loudly as he left.
‘I could of sworn he just said he was my goof. Mine? As if.’
“Kagome! Would you hurry the hell up! We don’t have all day!” Sam yelled from the bottom on the stairs.
“Kiss my ass Sam!” Kagome called down.
“Alright, get down here and I will.”
“You’re all disgusting.”
“You do know that the normal Inuyoukai mating style is-”
“Don’t you dare finish that sentence!” Kagome warned, now at the top of the stairs, dressed in a black dress that stopped at her knees, and had two thin straps at the shoulders. And she was glaring at the smirking Sam, and slightly surprised when she saw a blushing Inuyasha smack him upside the head.
“Hey Sam.” Kagome called some what calmly, too calmly. And both Sam and Inuyasha flinched.
“Yes Kagome?”
“How old are you?” That wasn’t what he was expecting.
“How old do I look?”
“Sam.”
“Alright, alright. I’m 200. Happy?”
“Hmmm.”
“What?”
R 20;You still a virgin?”
“What the hell kinda question is that!? You know the answer!”
“Is that a yes?”
“Not this again.” Inuyasha muttered.
“Course I’m not!”
“Aha!” Kagome said pointing to Inuyasha. “He’s younger then you and yet you’re still a virgin!”
“Would you stop with that!? What’s the big deal anyways!?” Inuyasha snapped.
“You’re 253, Sam’s 200 and yet he’s still had sex!”
“Sis!” Souta yelled, covering his ears.
“Oh relax, you’re gonna do it some day too!” Kagome said, hitting him lightly.
“This is not like the Kagome we knew.” Miroku whispered to Jake and Josh and they watched Kagome continue to make Inuyasha’s face go redder and redder, with both embarrassment and anger. But they were all betting that there was more embarrassment.
“Yeah,” Sango cut in. “Even the slightest hint to sex had Kagome’s face redder then a tomato.”
“Well. That’s the Kagome we know.” Jake laughed. “And it’s awesome! Watch this.”
Jake took a step in front of them, and smirked. “Hey Kaggy!”
“Yeah!?”
“Would you have sex with me?” he offered.
“Hell yeah!” Kagome said smiling,
“What!?” Inuyasha yelled, and Jake, Josh, Kagome, and Sam started laughing.
“That never gets old.” Sam said between laughs.
“Everyone who hears that . . . Always yells `What`” Kagome laughed. “It’s hilarious!”
Sighing Miroku joined in on the laughing, soon followed by Sango and Shippo. Souta just decided to stay quiet.
A few minutes later, had them all standing at the door, Kagome and Sam still had smiles plastered on their faces and Josh just had to say
“Hey Kagome?”
“Yeah?”
“Whatcha wearin?”
“I’m naked.” Kagome replied, laughing at the looks on Sam’s and Jake’s faces.
“That’s not funny.” Sam snapped, green eyes going a darker shade of green with anger.
“Yes it is.” Josh laughed.
“I really didn’t mean to do that!” Jake complained. “Wasn’t my fault I couldn’t smell him in the bathroom.”
“What the hell would you be sniffing around the bathroom for!?” Sam yelled, glaring at Jake.
“So I could know if anyone was in there!”
“Didn’t work to well did it asshole!?”
“You know I lost my powers! So shut the hell up!”
“Guys!” Kagome yelled, glaring daggers at them both. Both boys cringed.
“What?” Sam snapped, having found his voice first.
“We’re just joking, get over it. I don’t get that mad when you guys joke about me and David.”
“Urgh!” all three boys groaned.
“I still can’t believe you slept with him!”
“That’s just nasty!”
“I gagged when I found out! Literally gagged! Pizza being brought back up is not good!”
“Oh shut up!” Kagome yelled. “You guys are so immature!”
“Oh and you’re not?” Jake joked.
“That’s not the point.”
“Well how come you get to act like a teenager again?”
“Cuz I didn’t get to be a teenager when I was one! I was busy fighting some pompous ass who thought he could take over the whole damn planet!”
“Well you don’t have to take it out on us!”
“Well then stop getting mad at me! It wasn’t my fault I had to do that! You could at least cut me some slack when I want to fool around!”
“Depends on who you’re fooling around with!” Sam yelled.
“Get your mind out of the gutter Sam! You know what I meant!”
“Do I?” he asked softly.
“Huh?”
“Something’s not right Kagome.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’re not yourself.”
“How the hell would you know when I’m myself or not!?”
“What did you tell me, last time we saw each other?” Sam suddenly asked, narrowing his eyes at her.
“How would I remember?”
“Because one: You promised you’d never forget it. And Two: you’ve always answered that in the blink of an eye. Now who the hell are you?”
“I’m Kagome you twit.”
“No you’re not.”
“Yes I am.”
“No.”
“I am Kagome you whelp!”
“Aha!” Sam said, pointing at ‘Kagome’.
“What?”
“Kagome never says ‘whelp’.”
“Well maybe I changed my mind.”
“Turn around.” Sam ordered.
“What?”
“Turn around.”
“Are you crazy?” Sam gabbed her shouldered,
spun her around so she was facing away from the group, and pulled the back of her dress down a little.
“What the hell are you doing!?” Kagome and Inuyasha yelled at the same time.
“Jake. Look at this.” Sam motioned towards Kagome’s back.
“What is it?” Jake asked. Scanning her back.
“What’s wrong with the dragon?” Sam asked. Narrowing his eyes at it.
“Um . . .Oh my god!” Jake yelled, jumping back. “She ain’t Kagome!”
“What?” Josh yelled.
“The dragon’s eyes!” Jake yelled and Josh leaned forwards, gasping. Then he slowly whispered,
“The dragon’s eyes . . .their the wrong color.”
“Exactly.” Sam agreed, spinning her around.
“Who are you, and what have you done with Kagome?”
“For the millionth time. I am Kagome!”
“No you’re not! The eyes of the dragon on Kagome’s back are green. The eyes of the dragon on your back are red. Now who the hell are you?”
“I can’t believe you pay enough attention to her to know the color of a dragon’s eye. What is wrong with you people? Got nothing better to do?”
“We’ve got better things to do yes. But not when it comes to Kagome. She always comes first.”
“Mhmm.” the girl purred. “I like that kind of quality in a man.”
“Kiss my ass.” Sam growled, glaring at her.
The girl laughed evilly. And smirked at them all.
“He’ll get you, just like she got that girl. Though she put up a hell of a fight. He’s going to have some trouble breaking her.”
“Who is ‘he’?” Sam growled.
“You’ll find out soon enough.” she laughed.
“When did you change places?”
“After he.” she stopped to point towards Inuyasha. “Was kind enough to bandage the wound on her side. He will be most pleased that she is not bleeding on his floor.” she laughed
before leaning in and licking Sam’s cheek. “You wanted to know who I was?” she purred against his pointed ear. She pulled back. And said loud enough for them all to hear.
“I’m Lilith. Remember that name. You’ll all be screaming it later.” and she vanished in a swirl of smoke.
“Damn it!” Inuyasha yelled. Growling at no one in particular. “That was over a week ago!”
“And you were going to tell her that you loved her?” Sam inquired, raising a brow at him.
“Shut it.”
“Just asking.”
“How come you guys didn’t notice?” Shippo whispered. Giving them a weird look.
“She had the same scent, because she was dressed in Kagome’s clothes.”
“Just like Renkotsu of the Band Of Seven, when Kagome, Miroku and Sango were poisoned. I thought he was a monk because he was wearing the head monk’s clothes.” Inuyasha growled. He should have been paying more attention to Kagome- err . . . The girl who was pretending to be Kagome- Lilith was her name wasn’t it?
Wait a minute. So . . . If that girl wasn’t Kagome . . .that meant that he . . .
Inuyasha gagged as realization hit him. He was kissing an entirely different women!
He felt disgusted with himself because of that. And he had to growl at himself for his stupidity.
“Inuyasha?” Shippo asked. Giving him a weird look.
“That’s disgusting!” and in a second Inuyasha had his tongue out and was wiping it off, tempted to rip it out of his mouth.
“What is he doing?” Miroku asked confused.
“Um . . .” Sango whispered, before Sam gasped.
“You kissed her! Didn’t you!?” he yelled, disgusted.
“I swear I thought it was Kagome!” Inuyasha snapped back. “If I had of known she wasn’t Kagome I never would have done that! Let alone try and tell her I love her! Damn, I’m so stupid.”
Inuyasha flopped down to the floor, sighing as his shoulders slumped. “Kagome probably hates me for not figuring it out sooner. God, I’m an idiot.”
“Yes you are an idiot.” Shippo said. And Inuyasha sighed. “But she doesn’t hate you. We all know that Kagome loved you.”
“Loved being the key word here.” Inuyasha replied. Shaking his head slightly. “I probably ruined the small chance that I had with getting her back, because I didn’t figure out that it wasn’t her sooner. If I love her I should have been able to figure it out! But no! Being as dense as I am!”
“Would you stop belittling yourself Inuyasha?” Shippo asked, sitting down beside him. “I know Kagome loves you Oto. She just has to figure it out again.”
Inuyasha smiled when Shippo called him Oto. He didn’t do that often, with Inuyasha not being the one to show much emotion, or liking to the kit. Truth was, he felt like Shippo was his son, even if he didn’t show it.
“Thanks Shippo.” Inuyasha whispered. Sighing again. “I really needed to hear that.”
“I know.” Shippo smiled, hugging Inuyasha slightly. “I just hope we find her again. I don’t wanna lose my Ota again.”
“You’re not going to lose her again Shippo.” Inuyasha said quietly. “I promise.”
How long had she been here? She wasn’t sure, but the pain in her side was almost gone. Almost.
Cracking her eyes open she noticed that she was in an extremely dark room, and what seemed to be a . . . T.V across from her.
She tried to move only to be stopped by a jingle on metal and a pull on her wrists. She looked up to see shackles holding her arms up. No wonder she felt like she couldn’t feel her arms. And she noticed a metal collar around her neck when she tried to move her head sideways.
She saw the T.V screen flicker. And she saw a man with bright green eyes, and ear length brown, highlighted blonde hair, growling at someone she couldn’t see. Apparently this person he was growling at was sitting on the floor. And he looked pretty mad. The man beside him, had deep blue eyes, and black hair that was slightly longer then the first boy’s. He was shaking his head slightly. The next boy she saw had blonde hair, shorter then the first boy’s but still slightly long. It curled at the ends, a symbol that he had worn a lot of hats. His dark brown, more like hazel eyes were full of sadness and regret. As if he just lost someone that was dear to him. And somehow she didn’t doubt that.
Blinking she realized that she knew those boys. The first one, the one with the green eyes, Sam. The second boy, the one with the deep blue eyes, Jake. The last one, the one with the hazel eyes, Josh. She knew these boys. And she cared for them a lot. And it hurt her to see them looking like that. Though Sam was the only one who looked semi-normal. Until the anger washed from his face and he flopped down beside the man he was yelling at.
The man he was sitting by, she noticed, was clad in a pair of boxers and a t-shirt. But, that wasn’t the only thing that puzzled her. His hair, a bright silver color, not normal for most people. Hell, she was sure that it had to be bleached. And were those . . . Dog ears!? Two fuzzy dog ears on his head. And she wondered what they would feel like if she rub them. She always loved to rub dog’s ears. His eyes startled her. They were a deep shade of amber, worn down from their original color - that she was sure would have been lively, playful and joyful - by sadness, regret, hurt, and self-pity. Why did she feel like reaching out and comforting him?
Her mind fumbled for a name for him. If she knew they other three, there was a chance she knew his name. But, none came to her.
She noticed someone sitting to the man’s right. It wasn’t Sam. He was on the left. And she narrowed her eyes, getting a better look at his face.
Shippo!
She realized who it was instantly. How could she forget the face of the person she had claimed to be her adopted son!?
The people standing behind Shippo, she knew them instantly too. Sango, Miroku and Mizu.
Then the name of the man that she couldn’t remember popped up into her head. Inuyasha. How could she forget his name? She had loved him after all. And looking at him now, she knew that she still did. No doubt in her mind that she did. She had always felt so safe, happy, brave, wonderful . . . Right, when he was around. So, why had she forgotten him. Was it because he was the cause of her leaving the first time? She didn’t know, all she knew was that she cared for these people deeply, and loved them with all her heart.
But why did they all look so sad?
Then suddenly, she could hear what they were saying form speakers that she couldn’t see.
“What are we going to do?” Shippo asked.
“I don’t know. But we need a plan.” Sam said,
“Thank you captain obvious.” Inuyasha snapped.
“We know you’re mad Inuyasha.” Sango said. “But we could really go without your snappy comments.”
“Well sooory.” he said sarcastically, sending her a nasty glare. “I think if you just found out that the women you love was kidnapped you’d be a little snappy too.” he growled.
Women he loved? Was he talking about her? No, that just wasn’t possible. He couldn’t love her. Especially not her. Not after the way she had treated him, and the way he had treated her before she started treating him this way. Why didn’t that make sense?
“Inuyasha, we know you loved Kagome but-” Miroku cut in.
“Loved? You’re making it sound like she’s either dead or we’re never going to see her again!” Inuyasha yelled, bolting up and narrowing accusing eyes at the monk in question.
“There is the possibility that Kagome is dead.” Jake whispered. “We don’t know who has her, or where she is, or what they could be doing to her.”
As far as she was concerned, nothing had been done to her as of yet. And she was fairly certain that no one had been in here in a while. Not sense she had been put in here.
“What are you goin on about!?”
“It’s been over a week sense she was taken Inuyasha.” Mizu whispered. “It is quiet possible that she is indeed dead, or extremely injured.”
“Shut up! We’re going to find her, no matter what happens.”
“You sound really confident about that.” Sam said.
“So? She’s been in situations like this before.”
“Really now?”
“Yeah. Of course she has. And I’ve always gotten her out of it. And I’m not going to let her down now. I promised her once I’d protect her with my life, and that’s what I’m going to do.” Inuyasha growled.
Somehow she felt like that was a bad idea. Why did it seem like this was all a . . . Trap?
“So you have figured it out young miko.” a male voice rung through the air, startling the girl on the wall. Having only heard the voices through the speakers for a while, it scared her to be listening to a voice that she could actually talk back to, and hopefully they’d hear it.
“W-Who are you?” her voice sounded like it was someone else’s, and her throat was dry, so dry that it hurt to talk.
“I am your worst nightmare.” he laughed, walking towards her.
“Sorry buddy, but I don’t have nightmares.”
“Everyone has nightmares.”
“I gave up on nightmares when I was 6.”
“How convenient. It seems that your sprit has not been broken.”
“And you’re not going to break it.”
“I will in time Kagome. I will, and you’ll be the one to destroy that damn hanyou who killed my sister all those years ago.”
“Your sister? Who was that?” Kagome asked, getting confused.
“Kaguya. Remember her?” the voice laughed. “He killed her, and I swear I will avenge her death, by using the thing he cares for most against him”
“Oh yeah? And what’s that?”
“Not what my dear, who.”
“Well then, whose that?”
“You.” his evil laughter was the last thing she heard before the collar around her neck shocked her, and she was sent into unconsciousness, his disturbing, and frightening voice filling her ears, and making it echo in her head before she finally heard no more, and was left to sleep some more.
