Chapter # 11.
You’re All That I Want.

It hadn’t been very long sense Kagome left with the guys that Inuyasha started feeling lonely again. He felt the same as he did the first time she left. And he hated it. He absolutely hated it, with every bone, muscle, organ, and fibre of his being.

But what could he do? He knew she deserved this. After all, this was tradition. She supposedly did this every year. But that didn’t help. This was actually the first birthday he had ever been with her on, and now . . . He wasn’t even with her!

He watched as Mizu ran around the living room, putting up banners and balloons and all that crap. Getting ready for Kagome’s ‘not-so-surprise’ birthday party. After all, that was tradition as well.

There was a knock on the door, and Inuyasha got up to get it, seeing as he was the only one who wasn’t busy making the living room look ridiculous.

When he opened the door, he came face to face with someone he had never seen before. The man looked to be about as tall as he was, short black hair pulled into a small pony-tail at the nape of his neck (A/N: Remind you of someone?) He had a lighter brown color eye then Kagome had. Sort of like a honey-brown. He was wearing a pair of black jeans, and a white shirt under a black leather jacket. Inuyasha could see the motorcycle parked at the top of the stairs. Now who the hell did he get that up here?

“Uh . . . Can I help you?” Inuyasha asked. Giving the man a weird look.

“Yeah actually you can. This is the Higurashi residence right?” his voice was a smooth as ice, and it shocked Inuyasha a bit to hear it.

“Yeah it is.”

“Would Kagome be home?” Inuyasha growled instinctively.

“What do you want with Kagome?” he growled out, narrowing his eyes at the man before him.

“Kago!” Mizu yelled, jumping forward and hugging the man who was laughing at Mizu’s sudden outburst.

“Hey Mi.” he laughed. “You wouldn’t happen to know why there is a strange man answering Kagome’s door? She’s not bringing in man-whores again is she?”

“I am not a man-whore.” Inuyasha growled. He knew all to well what those were. There were even a few in his time. (A/N: Cough-Miroku-Cough.)

“Well, if you say so.” the man replied. Gliding his eyes over Inuyasha once or so.

Inuyasha was standing there, gripping the door handle and the door frame in a angry manor. He was wearing a black shirt with a snarling white dog on it that said ‘Bite me, I dare you.’ in blood red letters under it. He was hearing faded black jeans, no doubt Souta’s. Seeing as he wasn’t wearing a hat or a bandana, his ears were pressed flat to his skull, so the man couldn’t see them. And he was scowling at the man, a small growl escaping his lips.

“This is Inuyasha.” Mizu said, placing a hand on his shoulder to try and get him to loosen up. He obviously never met this man in his life.

“Well, hello.” the man smiled, extending his hand. Inuyasha of course didn’t take it.

“I asked you a question before old man. What do you want with Kagome?”

“Well, you see. . . I’m Kagome’s father.”
OoOoOoOoOoO

“Sam.” Kagome groaned. She was getting tired of being lead around with Sam’s hands over her eyes. He hadn’t even made the day’s plans, so how could he possibly be leading her around?

“Almost there Kaggy.”

“You said that 5 minutes ago.”

“It’s been thirty seconds!”

“That’s not the point.”

She was lead through what felt like a bush and instantly wondered where the hell they could be going that would cause them to walk through a bush!

“Alright, here.” he said, removing his hands.

Kagome slowly opened her eyes, having not had any sun light filter through her eyelids, or having her eyes open, the sun hurt her eyes as she scanned the area. And she instantly gasped. She knew this place. From back in the feudal era.

She was standing in the middle of a clearing. Pink, red, white, yellow, and slightly blue flowers surrounded her. There was a small water fall off to her right. And to her left was a little fish pond. That had millions of brightly coloured fish swimming around inside. She instantly felt tears welling up in her eyes as she involuntarily replayed the memory of the last time she was here.

She was sitting quietly by the fire they had made after stopping for lunch that day. Sighing slightly. It had been quiet all day. Sango and Miroku wouldn’t talk because they knew what had happened between their hanyou and miko friend when the hanyou had snuck off.

And said hanyou wasn’t even looking at her. Let alone talking. The only one who seemed to be oblivious - or at least acting obvious - was Shippo. And even he wasn’t really saying much. Seeing as he had sensed the tension between his adopted mother, and hanyou friend. And the uneasiness from the monk and demon slayer.

“Wench.” someone growled from behind, and she didn’t even bother to jump this time. Having gotten used to him popping up out of no where, and not calling her by her name.

“Inuyasha.” she replied, tilting her head up towards him slightly, exposing her neck to him in what she didn’t know was a silent submission to demons. Allowing him to do what he wanted to her, but he didn’t, no matter how much his instincts told him to he didn’t. She, after all, didn’t know what she did.

“Come with me.” he growled, not waiting for a response he grabbed her upper arm, and dragged her from camp. Turning her around so he wouldn’t have to worry about her tripping. Of course he’d never admit out loud that he worried about her.

“Where are you taking me?” she hissed, obviously his grip was hurting her. And she was trying desperately not to seem like a weakling.

“Just shut up.”

“Inuyasha.”

“What?”

“You’re hurting me.” he stopped instantly, and noticed the slight scent of blood in the air, and he turned to face her, not even noticing that they were at their destination.

He stared down at the wounds his claws had caused, guilt welling up inside him as he watched the blood trickle down her bare arms. And he was faintly aware of the fact that his claws were still embedded - though not very far - into her skin.

She wasn’t even paying attention to him as she gazed out at the clearing in admiration. There she was, standing in the middle of the most beautiful natural thing she had ever seen with the hanyou she loved, and he was . . . Licking her arm?

“W-What are you doing?” she asked shocked, gasping a little as his tongue slid over one of her other wounds.

“Healing the wounds.” he whispered against her upped arm. And she shuddered. Almost falling forwards, but managed to catch herself.

“But . . . With your tongue?”

“Would you rather have it get infected?” he snapped, his voice coming out much harsher then he wanted it to.

“I-I was just a-asking.” she whispered, afraid that he might blow another fuse, seeing as what she had caught him doing this morning. Maybe following him when he had specifically asked to be left alone for a little while wasn’t such a good idea.

“I’m sorry.” he whispered. Licking the last of the wounds he had caused. And he knew the scent of her blood was going to be all over his claws for a while.

“For what?” wasn’t it obvious!?

“For hurting you, and snapping at you just now.”

“You don’t have to be mad for snapping at me. After all, it’s what you do.” she said bitterly. And she didn’t notice his winch because she had looked away.

“Kagome . . .”

“Forget it.” she muttered, walking over to the little water fall and staring down at the waters. Then he got an idea.

“Wanna have some fun?” he asked, walking slowly up to her.

“How?” she whispered, wondering what they could possible do for fun out here. She was answered when he pushed her into the water.

She came up spluttering. Then she glared. Then she smirked. He was leaning over the water, and she knew the spell would wear off faster in water.

“Take a deep breath Inuyasha.”

“Huh?”

“SIT!” and he landed in the water beside her. He dragged her under with him, and they came up laughing.

That had been the first time she had seen him laugh. Not one of those fake ones. An actually, full-hearted laugh. How could she have forgotten that moment?

It didn’t matter how she forget it now, all that really mattered was the fact that she was here, and that this place still existed.

She hadn’t noticed that she’d started crying.

Or that Sam, Jake, and Josh were standing in front of her, worried looks planted on all of their faces.

“Kagome!?” Sam called again, and she shook her head violently.

“What?” she asked quietly, scanning the area again.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m fine.”

“You’re crying.”

“Am I?” she asked, bringing a hand to the wet spot on her cheek. “I guess I am.”

“Why are you crying?” Jake asked, rubbing circles on her back.

“It’s nothing.”

“Kagome . . .”

“It’s just . . . Inuyasha took me here once, a long time ago. And . . . I don’t know, I guess it hurts to remember it.”

“I’m sorry Kagome.” Josh whispered, hugging her gently. “I had no idea.”

“It’s fine, it doesn’t matter. He’s probably forgotten it all anyways.” she smiled gently. “Just like I was trying to forget for the past 10 years.”
OoOoOoOoOoO

“I . . . uh . . . Um . . .” he was finding it hard to form words. Really hard. “What?”

“I said . . . I’m Kagome’s father.”

“Err . . . Well . . . S-sorry about that.” he said shyly, scratching the back of his head.

“Inuyasha’s a little protective of Kagome, Kago.” Mizu said smiling. “And seeing as he’s never met you before, it was only natural to get defensive.”

“I see.” Kago replied. Raising an eyebrow at the boy in question. “But why would he be protective of Kagome?”

“Well . . .you see . . . He’s kinda . . .”

“In love with her.” Inuyasha whispered quietly, looking down at the floor.

“Ahh.” Inuyasha’s face went red as he realized that Kagome’s father had heard him. “Then I guess that’s normal.”

“Well, why don’t we go inside?” Mizu offered, taking Kago’s hand and dragging him inside, not really giving him much of a choice.

“Just to let you know . . . Inuyasha was your name right?” Kago asked, once inside and out of Mizu’s grasp.

“Yeah, it is.” Inuyasha replied, he stayed standing as the man sat down. He didn’t really feel very comfortable being in the same room as the man who could deny him any rights to Kagome.

“Well, Inuyasha, just so you know, do anything to hurt my daughter, and I warn you, I don’t mind going back to jail.” Inuyasha gulped, his face going quiet pale. God, how he hoped that he didn’t know anything about the future right now.

Kago’s laugh surprised him, was he laughing at him? He just threatened him, and now he was laughing? There must have been something seriously wrong with this man. And Inuyasha started to doubt if he was even safe around this man, despite the fact that Inuyasha was hanyou, Kago was human, and that Inuyasha could probably withstand anything this man threw at him. He was still scared none-the-less.

“Scared ya didn’t I?” he asked, “I never went to jail, and I ain’t gonna hurt you, I might get Sam and Souta too, but I wouldn’t.” Just as he said his name, Souta came running round the corner.

“Dad!” he yelled, jumping onto said father smiling like an idiot as he hugged him.

“Hey there champ!” Kago laughed, returning his son’s embrace. “How’s school going?”

“I’m off my break in two days, though I don’t really want to go back, I haven’t spent much time with Kaggy as of yet.” Souta said, he was now sitting beside his father. Looking slightly gloomy.

“Relax, I’m sure your mother won’t mind letting you stay for a few more days.” Kago looked around, a puzzled look on his face. “Where is your mother anyways?”

“S-She . . . She . . .” he couldn’t say it, tears just started to pool in his eyes.

“Now Souta, it can’t be that bad. Men don’t cry remember?”

Inuyasha remembered that line. He said it to Shippo at one point. But that wasn’t overly true. Inuyasha had cried for a week after Kagome left, but it’s a good thing he didn’t let anyone know that.

“I-I . . . can’t h-help . . .it.” Souta sobbed, wishing Kagome was here once again.
“Um . . .” Inuyasha started. Inwardly winching when Kago looked at him. “Actually, Mrs.Higurashi is . . . Dead.”

Kago sat perfectly still, his eyes slightly wider then before, and a shocked/horrified look on his face.

“W-What?” he asked, his voice barley audible.

“She’s dead.” Inuyasha repeated, feeling really bad for having to tell him this.

“H-How?”

“She was in a car accident.” Mizu said quietly. “And she was dead before they got her out of the car.”

Kago didn’t say anything, just stood up, and walked towards the stairs.

“I-I’ll be upstairs if you need me.” he whispered, walking slowly up the stairs, and into what used to be his and his wife’s bedroom.
OoOoOoOoOoO

“Now where are we going?” Kagome complained. Wondering why the hell they were dragging her all across town.

“We’re taking you to . . . Have some fun. Get your mind off Inuyasha.” Jake replied, wrapping his arm around her shoulder.

“You don’t need to do that. He’s not worth my time, besides, he doesn’t even like me . . .remember?”

“Then why would he come and live with you . . . If he didn’t care?” Sam asked, giving her a weird look.

“You’re messing with my head Sam. Stop it.” Kagome pouted, and everyone laughed. Just as loud music was heard. “you’re taking me to a party?”

“No. Look.” Josh pointed forwards and Kagome squinted before gasping, she was standing in front of a giant fair. With millions of rides, and food stands, and she could smell ramen here too. Inuyasha would have a fit.

She pushed that thought out of her mind and smiled at her friends.
“How’d you know I loved the fair?” she asked happily.

“Lucky guess?” Sam offered with a shrug.

“We’ve known you for 8 years.” Josh added.

“Athem.”

“Okay, Sam’s known you 9 years, but that doesn’t count.”

“And why doesn’t that count?” Sam and Kagome asked at the same time.

“Because you were both in rehab.” Josh said matter-of-factly.

“I was not in rehab.” Kagome snapped.

“Oh right. You were in the loony bin. How was that?” Jake smiled.

“Jake!” Kagome yelled then she groaned. “You know what, never mind. Lets go. I am sooo going on the . . .I wonder . . .do they have the Zipper here?” She had gotten quiet accustomed to that American ride, and loved it a lot.

“How should I know? Now come on, I want to get on some rides!” Sam yelled, running forwards, Jake, Josh and Kagome following shortly after.
OoOoOoOoOoO

It had been about 2 hours sense Kago got there, and Inuyasha was still kind of lonely. Until the phone rang.

“Hello?” he answered.

“Hey! Put Mizu on the phone!” someone who sounded like Kagome asked.

“Kagome?”

“Yash?” she sounded puzzled. “Oh yeah, forgot you guys were crashing at my place, but seriously. Is Mi-” she stopped and he heard her scream, sending him on edge.

“Kagome!?” he yelled into the phone. “Kagome? Are you alright!?”

“I-I’m fine!” she said and this time she was laughing. “I’m on roller coaster, and just did a really step dive. Anyways, I need to talk to Mi.”

“Why?”

“Hey! That rhymed!” well, that was completely random.

“O . . .kay?”

“Just put her on the phone.”
“Can’t.”

“Why not?”

“She’s busy.”

“Doing what?” Inuyasha saw Mizu shake her head from the living room, silently telling him not to tell Kagome that he father was here early.

“She’s in the bathroom, might be a while. Miroku cooked something, and it didn’t turn out so good.”

“Damn! Didn’t I tell him to stay away from the kitchen!?” Kagome groaned. “Well, tell her I hope she’s feeling better.”
“Will do.”
“God, you sound sooo much like my little brother its not funny!”

“Why do I sound like your little brother?”

“Never mind.”

“Alright. See ya later?”

“Yup! Bye!” there was a pause, then she said, almost too quickly for him to hear, “Love ya!” and then she hung up.

Inuyasha stood there dumbfounded, staring at the phone.
OoOoOoOoOoO

Kagome was laugh as she sat in the booth with her friends and band mates. And they were laughing like idiots with her. Luckily the restaurant had been book just for them, so they had the place to themselves. No one was going to see them like this, except each other. But face it, this was normal to them.

“So, we really should be getting back soon Kagome. Remember your dad’s showing up?” Sam said as they finished eating, surprising no one chocked this time . . .yet.

“Yeah, sure. Jake! Stop stuffing you face! I am not doing CPR if you die!” this made him laugh, which made him choke, which made Sam give him the hemlock manoeuvre causing both Kagome and Josh to laugh.

Sam smirked as Jake coughed and drank a small sip of water, more like have his glass. But he waited until his friend was done coughing before saying,

“You know, last time that happened, the food in your mouth hit me in the eye.” and everyone laughed again.

“Sam!” Kagome snapped, and she smiled. “You’re going to make someone choke again!”

“But seriously, we should start heading home. I hear Mizu was trying to teach Inuyasha to sing . . .” Josh trailed off, and wondered what Mizu was trying to teach Inuyasha to sing.

“Inuyasha can sing?” Kagome asked surprised.

“I don’t know . . .but we’re going to find out.” Josh said, standing up, taking Kagome’s hand, pulled her up with him.

“Yup, lets get going!”
OoOoOoOoOoO

“Mizu, this is not going to work.” Inuyasha complained for the 15th time.

“This is going to work!”

“Is not!”

“Is to!”

“Is not!”

“Is!”

“Not!”

“Is!”

“Their acting like Inuyasha and Kagome used to.” Miroku whispered.

“I know, it’s scary, just you wait, she’s gonna say sit some time soon.” Shippo whispered back.

“Is not!”

“Is to!”

“Is not!”

“Is to! Now sit!” when Inuyasha just took a step back shocked Mizu pouted. “Kaggy said that would work.” she whined. “She lied!”

“I know, I tried that once too. Didn’t work either.” Sango commented, sitting down on the couch. “Only works when Kagome says it.”

“Then I’ll get Kagome to say it!”

“D-D-Did you just try to sit me!?” Inuyasha yelled. The shock of being sat by someone other then Kagome finally wearing off just as Kagome, Sam, Jake and Josh came through the door.

“She actually tried it!?” Kagome snapped, smiling.

“You lied to me Kaggy!” Mizu whined, pouting again.

“I’m sorry Mi. Anything I can do to make it up to you?”

“Sit him?” Mizu asked hopefully.

“Sure.” Kagome smiled. “Inuyasha-”

“Come on! I didn’t even do anything this time!” Inuyasha complained.

“-Sit boy.” there was a loud thud and mumbled curses as Kagome giggled.

“Oh! Josh told me you were trying to get Inuyasha to sing!” Kagome smiled

“Yes I was!”

“It won’t work Mizu.” Inuyasha complained, lifting his head.

“Yes it will!”

“No!”

“Yes!”

“I can’t sing!”

“Yes you can!”

“No I can’t!”

“SIT!” Kagome yelled and Inuyasha it the floor again. “Mizu.”

“Sorry.” Mizu muttered, moving back some.

“Kagome’s like an alpha or something.” Shippo whispered to Miroku.

“Yeah . . .it’s kind scary.” Miroku replied.

“So. You gonna sing Inu?” Kagome asked, sitting on the balls of her feet in front of him.

“No.” he said simply, lifting his head to look at her. And the familiar position they were in.

“Come on, please?” she begged, pouting a little. It took all that Inuyasha had to not give into the look.

“No Kagome.”

“But it’s my birthday!” tears welled up in her eyes and that did it, he was instantly up, rubbing her back and saying:

“Alright fine. I will, as long as you don’t cry?”

“Deal!” she said, all tears now gone.
“Why do I have the feeling that I was just played?” Inuyasha asked Miroku as he walked past.

“Maybe cuz you were.” Miroku replied. “She used to do that all the time remember?”

“Oh yeah.”

Inuyasha sent a glare at Kagome and she smiled happily at him. Before walking up to him, wrapping her arms around his neck and saying

“You know, you’re cute when you pout.”

“I was pouting?” he asked, completely ignoring the cute comment, cute wasn’t really something you want to hear from someone you love.

“Yeah, you were.” she smiled and kissed his cheek. “Please sing?” she whispered, swaying her hips a little. Inuyasha gulped.

“Yeah, sure.” he whispered putting his forehead to hers. “as long as you stop doing that right now.”

“Doing what?”

“That.” he grabbed her hips to imminently stop all movement of them and she laughed nervously.

“Sorry, that’s a habit.”

“How do you get that as a habit?”

“I can be very seductive when I want to.”

‘I bet you could.’ Inuyasha thought and he smiled.

“Well, I’m not arguing.”

“Perv.”

“Whatever.̶ 1;

“You still have to sing.”

“Ah damn! I thought I got your mind off that.” he grumbled, growling as the music came on the TV. Damn modern technology.

Kagome moved back and sat on the couch between Sam and Josh, wrapping her arms around their shoulders, as they wrapped their arms around her waist. Inuyasha almost growled.

Inuyasha cursed himself for letting himself get talked into this.

I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house
That don’t bother me
I can take a few tears now and then and just let them out
I’m not afraid to cry every once in a while
Even though going on with you gone still upsets me
There are days every now and again I pretend I’m ok
But that’s not what gets me

What hurts the most
Was being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was tryin’ to do

He tried not to look at Kagome as he sang this, tried not to give it away, tried not to let the emotions he was feeling right then feed through in his voice or in his eyes. But . . .he couldn’t keep it out of his eyes.

It’s hard to deal with the pain of losing you everywhere I go
But I’m doin’ It
It’s hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I’m alone
Still Harder
Getting up, getting dressed, livin’ with this regret
But I know if I could do it over
I would trade give away all the words that I saved in my heart
That I left unspoken

What hurts the most
Is being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was trying to do

He chanced a glance at Kagome, and saw her eyes wide, sadness playing in them, and he thought he saw tears in her eyes. And his nose confirmed that.

What hurts the most
Is being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was trying to do

Not seeing that loving you
That’s what I was trying to do.

He sighed as he flopped down opposite of Sango, and imminently closed his eyes, laying his head back on the back of the chair and growling lowly to himself. Oh how did he get himself into these things? He couldn’t even sing!

“Oh . . .my . . .god.” he heard Josh whisper and he was about to open his eyes and lift his head to glare at the boy when someone collided with his chest. And he was looking more confused as he felt someone straddle his lap.

“That was amazing Inu!” Kagome cried from her new position on top of him. He just looked more confused.

“What?” he asked finally, shaking his head a little. “Repeat that?”

“That was . . .never mind. You were amazing!” Inuyasha caught Miroku’s perverted grin out of the corner of his eye and he saw Sango hit him on the back of the head. But he didn’t really pay attention, he was more concerned about the beauty currently sitting on top of him.

Kagome’s eyes went wide and her mouth opened to say something, but it closed again. A few more times that happened before Inuyasha realized what was wrong.

She was sitting in his lap, pressed against is lower region.

And he had gone hard.

His eyes widen with hers, and he was spluttering.

“Uh . . .um . . .” he chuckled nervously, and Kagome’s mouth was still opening and closing like a fish out of water.

“Kagome? Inuyasha?” Sango asked, moving over to look at them.

Neither answered, they were stuck staring at one another.

“She’s got the same look you do on our wedding night Sango.” Miroku whispered and Sango suddenly realized what was happening.
“Oh my god!” she cried, moving away from the pair.

“Not helping Sango.” Inuyasha hissed.
“I-I-I think I’m g-gonna get up n-now.” Kagome stuttered.

Inuyasha sent her a look that she easily read as ‘Don’t you dare.

“That might be a god idea Kagome.” Sango said, trying to pull her off. Inuyasha instantly growled at the unwanted contact to his mate. ‘Wait . . .mate? Well I guess, makes sense. No one else has gotten me this hard by just sitting on me. Especially without me knowing it.’

“What is he growling about?” Sango whispered to Miroku.

“Inuyoukai are extremely protective of their mates. Apparently, Inuyasha here is having a little . . .problem.” Sam snickered under his hand.

“Oh that ain’t a little problem Sam.” Kagome hissed, sending a glare over her shoulder. “More gigantic.”

“Can’t blame him. Inuyoukai tend to be bigger too.” Inuyasha was lost as to where this conversation had gone. And he was confused as to why Kagome’s face was redder then a tomato.

“Kagome? Are you okay?” he asked, and he saw Josh’s and Jake’s hidden laughter by their shaking shoulders. And he glared at them.

“No, I’m not okay.” she muttered. “Sure, sitting here is fine, until you go rock hard underneath me!” she snapped, and he blushed, chuckling nervously.

“Can you honestly blame me?” he asked before he thought and he mental kicked himself in the shin.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” she whispered giving him a weird look.
“I . . .uh . . .um . . .you know what?”

“What?”

“I’m getting kind tired, lets go upstairs shall we?” Inuyasha said, and he jumped up quickly taking Kagome with him and running up the stairs.

“Good thing her father’s still asleep.” Miroku said and everyone started laughing.

“Okay Inuyasha.” Kagome said patiently and Inuyasha set her down and awkwardly sat beside her. “So, why the privacy?”

“Oh I don’t know, maybe cuz I’m sitting here with a bulge in my pants and I don’t need everyone to see it.” he mentally kicked himself again.

“And you don’t mind me seeing it?” she asked curiously, and as he watched her, he noticed her eyes drift down a few times.
“You’re the one who caused it. You think I care if you see it?” she laughed, and looked back up at him.

“What happened to my shy hanyou?”

“I’m still hanyou. I just like the shy part.”

“Not really. You still blush a lot.”

“Yeah well, when you’ve got an erection like this, shyness is the last thing on your mind.” she laughed again.

“I bet.”

“You’ve really changed a lot, haven’t you?” he asked suddenly, looking away.

“Of course I have. I . . .you didn’t expect me to stay . . .weak and naive all the time did you?”

“You weren’t weak.”

“You said so yourself, you said it a lot.”

“I never meant it.”

“What?”

He sighed before answering.
“That was my kind of way to try and get you to . . .I don’t know . . .try to prove you weren’t weak. So that you wouldn’t need to have me around all the time. So that . . .if the time ever came that I died, or you wanted to leave you could still take care of yourself.”

“Well . . .I didn’t know you cared.” he turned and saw her looking away and he could barley see the hurt on her face.

“Kagome . . .” he hooked his finger under her chin and turned her to look at him. “I care more then you could ever know.”

“How could you care?” she asked, moving her head away. “You never cared. It was always Kikyo, always.”

“No. It was never Kikyo. She wasn’t the same after she was resurrected. I soon found out, after you left, that I had only stayed with her as a poor attempt to get you back. I wanted you, not her. Hell, I still want you. Can’t you tell!?” he pointed down, and her face went red again as she looked away. “Now who blushes a lot?” he taunted.

“Shut up.”

“Hey,”
“What?”

220;You never told me what you wanted for your birthday.” he said, in a desperate try to change the subject, and hopefully get her to fall asleep before blue balls killed him.

“All I really wanted, or rather . . .what I still want . . .is . . .” she paused and took a deep breath. “You.”
