Chapter One: A Demon High School? SAY WHAT?

Now I ask you, if your parents told you that you were moving from the only place you have lived since you were born, to a completely different city (not to mention bigger) to go to a school with demons, how would you react?

Yeah, that's what I thought.

I, of course, reacted like so:

"WHAT?????"

"Now Kagome," cooed my mom," It's really not that bad. The school is VERY prestigious and the students are all very talented. You were accepted since you have miko powers and your GPA is outstanding!"

"Yeah, lets flip to the other side of coin. What about my friends mom?"

"It's not that far away, you can invite your friends over any time as long as the house is clean and some laundry is done."

"But-But-But…"

"Yes?"

I obviously lost didn't I?

It is now two weeks later and we have just finished moving into the Sunset Shrine in Tokyo, about forty-five minutes away from my old house.

We moved for three reasons:

My grandpa got a job as the shrine keeper of this place

My mom is a substitute teacher here and it's easier for her to get to work

I get to go to Amaterasu High, the most prestigious school in all of Tokyo.

Well, I admit it. It's not really that bad. I was just peeved that my mother moved me right when I was about to start my senior year with my best friends since I was four.

Oh well, who knows? Maybe I will meet Prince Charming at this school…

Yeah, and monkeys will fly out of my cat's butt…

@~@

Okay Kagome… breath… In. Out. In. Out

All right… I was never really good at going to new places. I was completely TERRIFIED! I mean, what if I made a total idiot out of myself! What if I fall right on my face while walking to my desk? Ugh, I think I'm going to be sick…

Oh no! We're here!

I gulped and stepped out of the car, I felt my knees buckle but I luckily didn't collapse.

"Sweetie? Would you like me to go with you?"

"No!"

That's the last thing I need. Someone to see my mom escorting me onto the campus.

"All right," mom said, she always understood me.

So I kissed her good bye and made the horrible walk up the stairs to the school's front doors.

Luckily it was much too early to have many of the kids there yet. There were a few here and there but none took notice of me. I looked down at the school map and followed the path I had traced with a pen on the way here. I eventually made it without having to ask for directions.

I walked in to see a woman sitting at a desk talking on the phone while writing something down. I approached her and patiently waited for her to finish. She did finish quickly enough and asked," May I help you sweetie?"

I smiled at her way of greeting me and answered," Yes, I am a new student, Kagome Higurashi and I'm here to see Principle Kaede."

The woman nodded and said," Right, now just let me buzz her."

She then pressed a button on a nearby speaker and spoke into it," Miss Kaede the new student, Miss Higurashi is here to see you."

A wizened old woman's voice replied," Ah, yes. Send her in Yuri."

Yuri looked up at me and said," Go on in sweetie."

I thanked her and proceeded through the door labeled `Principle Kaede'.

I walked in to see a kind looking old woman staring back at me- with one eye at least due to the fact that one of her eyes had an eye patch over it.

"Welcome, Miss Higurashi to Amaterasu High."

"Thank you, it's very nice to finally meet you." I offered her my hand and she gladly shook it in response, her hands felt soft, like tissue paper.

"Please," said Principle Kaede," sit down Kagome."

I did and set my bag next to my chair.

"Now, I say again, welcome to Amaterasu High. We are very pleased to have you at our school. Your GPA as I see here,"- she held up a folder labeled `Higurashi, Kagome', "is absolutely outstanding…"

I really didn't pay attention after that. I really don't break any rules, and plus they're all the same in schools. You know: no drugs, no alcohol, no smoking, no fights yada yada yada.

So I re-entered the conversation when I heard," I have selected a student to show you around school for the first week, since you just started going here. We don't usually get new students here. Her name is Sango Mashimoru, she is one of our best students here at AHS."

Oh good, at least it's a girl. If it were a guy I would've been out of there faster than you can say Amaterasu. But anyways, after she announced this she called on the intercom and said," Please show in Miss Mashimoru please, Yuri."

"Yes, ma'am."

I turned as the door clicked and saw a girl with her ebony hair pulled into a high ponytail on her head, she also wore a magenta colored top with a tasteful black skirt that reached her knees.

I smiled at her, which she returned. She then turned to Principle Kaede and said," Don't worry Principal Kaede, I'll take good care of her."

The principal smiled and gestured for me to follow Sango, which I did after hurrying to grab my bag.

As we walked out of the office, Sango said," I really like your shirt."

I looked down unconsciously to see what shirt I had picked that morning and found it was my favorite bright pink v-neck shirt, matched with my light blue jeans. I smiled up at her- she was just a bit taller than me, as almost everyone is- and replied," Thanks. I love that skirt."

She smiled too and thanked me.

"Alright," she said rounding a corner," You apparently have the same classes as me to keep things easier. So first period is Chemistry with Yoshimora."

(A/n: Not good with the name stuff so forgive me. And I'm going off my schedule that I have at my school. Only advanced since I'm younger than a senior.)

I nodded and she spoke again," Would you like to stop at your locker first?"

"Oh yeah. These books are really starting to break my back."

She laughed and asked," What number are you?"

"0173," I replied, checking my schedule.

"Hey, that's right next to my friend's locker. You better watch out though, he doesn't take quick to strangers."

Uh oh. Better be nice. I wouldn't want to make an enemy on the first day.

She stopped and pointed to locker 0173.

"There ya go."

I spun in my locker combination and pushed up on the handle. Nothing.

I spun it again, re-entering the combo and again pushing up on the handle. Same thing.

Sango laughed and I felt myself blush with embarrassment.

"Here," she said and stepped in front of me.

She spun in the number, which she obviously had memorized and pushed up on the handle but also added a bang with her fist under the lock. The lock clicked and my locker swung open revealing an empty and bare interior. I pulled all those annoyingly heavy volumes out of my backpack and shoved them into the locker, along with my various binders. Only leaving my Chem. Book and folder in my bag.

I shut the door and turned to face Sango.

She smiled and said," Alright. All set? Let's go!"

And with that she led me down the hall to my first class in a whole new, scary, huge school.

Inside the class I could hear much noise, shouts from kids, and laughter of the loudest.

I followed Sango into the classroom and stopped to take in my surroundings.

Yup, this was definitely a demon school. There were humans, but there were also obvious demons in the groups. One stood out the most though.

He was what I and every other girl in the world would call a full on heartthrob! He was gorgeous!!! He had long silverish white hair and golden eyes. Not to mention the cutest little cat-like ears that you have ever seen! If I hadn't been terrified out of my wits I would of bounded over to the guy and petted those little ears until I was thrown out of the school for harassment.

But that wasn't going to happen.

As soon as I walked in everyone in the class turned to look at me. It's like they sensed I was new or something. Oh wait… they probably did, this being a demon school and all. Nothing was impossible.

INU POV:

I was sitting in my first period talking to Miroku, when the door opened and Sango walked in. I knew even though my back was facing the door, my nose usually told me who people were even if I didn't see them. But another, unfamiliar scent was following her. So I turned just in time to watch as a girl stepped into the classroom. She had long ebony hair that reached her mid-back and warm, chocolate brown eyes.

She actually looked a lot like Kikyo…

Her scent was of cherry blossoms. Those had always been my favorite…

Wait! Hold on! What the hell am I saying???

"Well class, it looks like we have a new student everyone! This is Kagome Higurashi," said the teacher walking over to the girl and putting his arm around her. I could tell she was nervous, I don't know if it was the pained look on her face or the blush that grew steadily redder with each passing second.

"Now why don't you go take a seat…"

I looked around to see where an empty seat was and I was surprised that everyone was looking at me.

The only empty seat was next to me…

"Right over there. Next to Mr. Takahasi."

Great, I get to sit by the new girl.

KAGOME:

My face felt hot. I ALWAYS get like this when I'm in front of an audience! My face grows hot, my cheeks blush and I feel like I just ran a marathon.

Damn my shy nature!

But I got to sit next to the heartthrob in the third row. Hey! This might actually work out!

As I took my seat next to "Mr. Takahasi" the teacher said," And by the way Inuyasha,"- I assume he was talking to the boy- " you will kindly assist Miss Higurashi if she needs any help."

Ooh… I get the hottie as my tutor! Score one for Kagome! Go me!

~@~

INU:

What the fuck? No way in hell am I going to be doing some charity case! She's smart if she got in this school so she sure as hell will do it on her own!

But I could tell I wasn't going to get away from this… if I tried, Kaede would tell my mother. Not to mention my father will ground me for the rest of the century.

Feh, whatever.

~@~

KAGOME:

Well… it's individual work time for the rest of class and I'm really stumped with this chemistry work. Might as well ask right? Right…

Here it goes…

"Ahem. Hi. I'm Kagome."

"I was informed already," he answered snappishly.

"Oh. Um, sorry. Well, I was wondering on how to do this first thing on the workpage…"

"Feh. Whatever."

With that he grabbed my paper and started scribbling feverishly. He then shoved it back at me and said," There."

I looked down at my paper then back at him with an obvious confused expression. What kind of tutoring was this? Not that I was complaining but did I learn anything from that?

No.

"Uh… was that my help?"

"No shit Sherlock."

I felt my temper flare. Hey, nobody talks to me like I'm an idiot!

"Pardon me?"

"I said, nice observation stupid."

Now my cheeks grew red and I glared at him. Who did this jerk think he was? The freakin King of the Universe?

"My name is not `stupid'. It's Kagome. Ka-go-me. Get it?"

"Feh."

This was growing old fast.

"You know what," I said pointing an angry finger straight at his face. His eyes quickly focused on my finger as I said," I don't need that kind of treatment! I mean I just came to this school! The least you can do is be nicer to me!"

"Why should I be nice to you? I barely even know you."

"Exactly! So how can you hate me already?"

"Because-"

But he was cut off when a boy- another handsome one- plopped down next to me and said," Don't mind him Kagome. He's just a rude, crude dumbass mutt that doesn't have any manners whatsoever."

I turned to see the boy had long dark hair that was tied up in a high ponytail, and slate gray eyes, he also had fangs. Great, another demon, but at least this one had the decency to be nice to me.

But my attention was immediately brought back to Inuyasha when a low growl emitted from his direction.

"Look who's talking you mangy wolf!"

Hmmm… dog… wolf… Oh! I get it! Inuyasha was a dog demon and this guy was a wolf demon! Ooooooh! I get it! Gotcha.

"Um," I said uncertainly, feeling the obvious tension between the two," Well, I'm sure Inuyasha has a good reason for being just a tad bit grumpy. Now don't you Inuyasha?"

"Feh. Yeah, that I have to get stuck with you."

Pleasant.

The wolf guy said to me," Come on Kagome. I'll help you with your work. I'm sure the mutt wouldn't know first thing about it anyway. By the way, I'm Koga."

"Nice to meet you," I said grabbing my stuff and walking over to his table with him leaving a very distempered Inuyasha.

~@~

INU:

That arrogant, stupid wolf! How dare he!!! I'm going to KILL him!

The class ended and I quickly gathered my things, tailing him and that stupid girl. I stopped right behind him and shouted to his retreating back," Koga! Why don't you come over here and face me without the teachers watching us!"

We were now outside in the courtyard and kids all around us noticed the beginning of a famous Inuyasha vs. Koga fight. They began to surround us- but keeping a reasonable amount of distance since they all knew we were both demons.

Koga turned with a arrogant smirk on his face," I'd be glad to kick your ass any day dog breath!"

"Bring it on!"

Koga said something to the new girl, she gave a fearful glance to me then Koga. She shook her head an I heard amongst all the whispering," What are you two? Crazy? You'll get in trouble! Not to mention hurt!"

I heard Koga say," Don't worry. This won't take long."

He leapt into the air and landed in front of me with a cocky smirk on his face.

I returned the same smirk and lunged forward taking a swipe at him.

Koga was fast, I knew that. And I hate to admit it but he WAS faster than me. Not that I admitted this to anyone else. So I knew to look out.

When he jumped over my head I anticipated this and quickly thrust my leg out behind me in a backwards kick. I heard the satisfying crunch of my foot connecting with his gut, sending him flying into a tree.

~@~

KAGOME:

What were they thinking??? They couldn't do this! They'd get in so much trouble. Well, maybe it would end with just an exchange of insults…

That's when Koga went flying into a nearby oak tree…

Okay. Now it is up to none other than…

KAGOME HIGURASHI!

I rushed over and stood in front of Koga just as Inuyasha, with his demon speed, raced to hit Koga again. He saw me there standing with my hands on my hips and he dug his heels into the ground struggling to not run into me.

He stopped just in time and stared at me with a wild look in his eye.

"What the hell do you think your doing wench!"

"I think I'm trying to stop him from being killed and you from getting in loads of trouble!"

Inuyasha gave a low throaty growl of frustration, but I stood my ground. I stared straight into his golden eyes, not showing any fear or sign of backing down. The no fear thing must've been working because his ears slumped a little and the glint in his eyes faded away. I smiled with satisfaction and turned to Koga who was looking at me. Wait? Was that a look of…anger???

He stood up and said gruffly," I didn't need your help! I don't need a girl to fight my battles for me."

My smile went to a frown in two seconds flat.

"Oh," I said coolly," So next time I know to let you get your ass kicked by him. I didn't know you liked getting rammed into trees that much."

His jaw dropped in shock, along with all the other students of Amaterasu High. I turned my back on him and walked past Inuyasha who had a shocked/amused expression on his face.

I was getting my stuff out for my second period class which was my elective class, psychology, when Sango came running up to me.

"Wow Kagome! That was amazing!"

"What? Two morons trying to kill each other? Didn't seem very amazing to me."

Sango laughed and said," No, not that. We see that almost every day between those two. What we don't see every day is you actually getting them to stop."

I was confused.

"Why? Hasn't anyone ever done it before?"

"Oh believe me. People have tried. And all of them have failed. Only certain teachers can stop those two from pummeling each other into the ground."

I nodded and closed my locker. Wow. I'm the only to ever stop them from being idiots? How strange. Well, whatever. It's not like it's big deal or anything.

~@~

INU:

How the- what the- WHY DID I STOP?

I could have EASILY jumped right over her and pummeled that piece of shit into the ground! But no! She just steps in front of me and I obey her every command like a little puppy dog of some kind!

Great. Some new girl comes to this school and I'm suddenly going all wacko.

Feh. Whatever.
