"What are you doin' here?"

The hanyou's remark broke the silence between each person, giving Kagome a reason to scoff in distaste at his attitude along with a painful fist to the head. In a hissing voice she frowned and held Kimi with her other arm.

"Inuyasha!"

When only receiving an ear twitch from her mate the raven haired woman made eye contact with the youkai lord. His regal stance and elegance had yet to change from the first time she'd set eyes on him. Back when the shikon no tama had been shattered. Kagome remembered every icy glare and killing blow he had swung in Inuyasha's direction, never once considering that they could live in peace with one another like they did now.

Despite their relationship not being...friendly per say, Sesshomaru and Inuyasha had come to an unoffical truce. 'I won't attack you, if you don't attack me' kind of truce. Each still had their less than desirable attitudes towards one another but had become far better in behaving civily. As civil as inu's could be that was. It also helped that they had fought side by side to defeat the disgusting thing named Naraku. Finally coming to realize that the other held power and could be a valuable ally in battle, instead of the usual struggle for dominance.

"Hello Sesshomaru." Kagome greeted with a bow and friendly smile, her hands occupied with keeping a squirming Kimi under control.

The taiyoukai had come to the conclusion that his brother, as well as his mate, were strong indeed. Naraku's final battle had shown their determination in defeating the beast and had gained his respect in an honorable way.

Bowing his head only slightly toward the sitting ningen, the western lord let his eyes fall back to Rin who had yet to say anything. The girl had been avoiding him all day. The only logical thing to do was to return to this village where he knew her to be safest. Maybe then the whirlwind of human emotions she kept having would find some sort of oulet. It had to be a...human thing. A tug on his pant leg made him look down and to his surprise he found big honey colored eyes that blinked with wonder. They were immediately joined by a gigantic, gum filled smile.

Lifting his eyebrow in a delecate arch, Sesshomaru watched with intrest as Inuyasha's pup laughed up at him, her small ears twitching with each giggle. Rin finally lifted her gaze and hadn't noticed the quick baby until it was too late. Kimi had already scurried over to the new friend that was visiting and was determined to say hello first hand.

Kagome was pulling out more clothes for the little infant, but when she turned the small child was gone. Her motherly instincts were going haywire at the thought of losing her Kimi when suddenly a small growl came from where the others were. The miko felt her very blood run cold.

Inuyasha watched with a close eye but wasn't worried. The hanyou knew very well that Sesshomaru would never dishonor himself by attacking or killing a defenseless pup, and one of his own blood for that matter. The hanyou had proven himself to be worthy of their father's blood long ago. It was time, in his opinion, that Kimi met him anyway. The taiyoukai was her uncle.

Rin's eyes went wide at the growl Sesshomaru vocalized, fear strinking her like a fist in the gut. Her head shot to his face in hopes to gauge some reaction... he'd never sounded like that before. Inuyasha heard his growl and stayed in place, seemingly unfazed unlike the women.

"Keh, she's like her Oyaji, smart as a whip."

Sesshomaru kept his eyes on the baby, letting an almost non-existant smile grace his features. The pup gave a half growling bark back, its high yip unlike her uncle's low vibration. It pleased the youkai lord to see his father's blood being put to good use. This pup was smart, that was for sure. Especially if she went to those she considered to be strong pack members. He approved of her instinctual decision.

Looking over the babies features, Sesshomaru found that their father's youkai blood was still dominant, the ears and hair a dead give away. Unlike her father however, Kimi held the gentle face of her mother and the soulful gaze that kami graced Kagome to have.

"It seems the whelp at least knows Inu."

Inuyasha kept his arms crossed and flicked his ears only replying,

"Of course she does, like I said, she's like her old man."

Kagome was pale faced when observing her husband just standing there as their only baby sat at the foot of a youkai who's name meant 'The end of life.' Not to mention his track record in nearly crippling Inuyasha in any way possible gave the miko one of many reasons to panic. It was quite clear the brothers let bygone's be bygone's. Rin had a similar expression, one of shock now more then fear. For as long as she'd known him, the young woman had never seen her lord act so...Inu-like.

Making a move to pick the little one up, Rin noticed Kimi's gurgle of protest. She held the small child, her eyes still wide at how Sesshomaru acted so...tolerant. 'Well, seeing that he put up with me...' She thought to herself while her lips lifed in a knowing smile. The Inu youkai had to have patience when putting up with her. 'I shouldn't be so surprised.'

Kagome went to Rin's side, her face still a bit white. Putting the little pink shirt on the only diapered child, the young mother swallowed back the tears of fear that were threatening to emerge. Unable to take what just happened with grace or understanding Kagome turned with a scowl to both Sesshomaru and Inuyasha.

"What in the world was that about?! Why did you growl at my baby?!"

"Oi woman it's just Inu, he was talkin' to her, calm down!"

Kagome's eyes went from scared mother rabbit, to furious grizzly bear mother in a heartbeat. When she shifted that burning gaze to the lord of the west. Sesshomaru simply lifted a brow at his brother glancing cooly back to her, explaining.

"From an early age Inu Youkai seek out powerful kin to ensure safety if danger should arise. A ningen would be helpless. While an Inu is not."

Inuyasha gave a worried glance to his daughter then back to his mate before continuing,

"Kimi's just-she was just greeting her pack member!"

All the while Kagome took one step..then two...three step..then four, in the direction of 'the love of her life'. A threatening glare pinned him in place until he finished his explanation. After processing this information, the young mother let out the angry breath she was holding and blinked.

Rin cut in smiling,

"Oh, I thought you were mad Sesshomaru-sama..."

The taiyoukai let his gaze go to the young woman he'd been keeping as his ward for the past eight years. His golden eyes softened, his brother and his mate's conversation now drowned out only to be replaced by his own voice.

"I am not mad, at anyone... Rin."

The young woman found her eyes to be glued by his. His tone floated to her like velvet. Taking her gaze away from him, she looked to ground in front of her and slowly shook her head yes.

"Okay..."

Rin took a breath and sighed in relief. Only moments ago she was positive her lord would be upset...and not because of the baby.

Kagome decided it was time to go and gave a 'gomen-nasai' to the youkai lord. With a smack to the head Inuyasha followed her down the trail to the village. Sesshomaru and Rin still stood motionless, the young woman unsure of whether or not to follow. After what happened...she wasn't sure if she should just...go.

Jaken had been mumbling obscenities by the river while trying to dry himself off. Rin looked to the old toad then up to a pinning amber gaze. A few moments went by before anything was said, the taiyoukai simply studied the girls features shamelessly until she shifted from embarrassment.

Swallowing hard, Rin spoke quietly, her question unsure and hesitant,

"May I-we go Sesshomaru-sama?"

The inu youkai took a long pause after opening his mouth, yet answered eventually...

"If it means I will not be yelled at again. Then yes."
