An ear-splitting scream rang through house. “I told him to stop that…” an ageing woman mumbled. “Get up here now!”

“But Mom!” her son yelled from the basement.

“No ifs ands or buts! I told you to stop playin' those video games so loud and you didn't listen! You aren't playin' down there any more tonight. Besides you have company… get up here and be respectful.”

“Just two more—”

“Sota get up here now!” Mrs. Higurashi called.

“OK I'm comin',” Sota said, dragging his feet up the stairs.

When Sota got up the steps he saw his older sister Kagome. “Hey Sota!” She gave him a big hug and he hugged her back.

“I missed you sis!”

“I missed you guys too!” Kagome shrieked. “Did you take my room?”

“No…” Sota said looking at his sister, “Mom said that I couldn't have it `til you get a house of your own and she knows you won't be comin' home…”

“Oh gee thanks Mom… don't you think I can handle myself?”

“Yes, but hun, that isn't why you came back; to argue about your old room. Tell me, why did you come home? You usually aren't back until a holiday,” Mrs. Higurashi pointed out.

“Oh yeah! I almost forgot! Botan, my boss, is sending me to America for two months! There is this contract over there and he is sending me there to figure out some computer problems that they couldn't. But that isn't what I wanted to tell you! Mom, you better say yes too!” Kagome rambled.

“About what hun?” Mrs. Higurashi asked.

“Sota can come if you say he can! Botan said that he would pay his way if you would say yes!” Kagome squealed.

“But that is such a long time… and a long distance…” Mrs. Higurashi said in her motherly tone.

“But I will make sure he is OK and he'll call every night! Botan is even paying for the hotel, the rental car, and the gas! Please Mom!” Kagome begged. “I don't wanna go by myself…”

“Please?” Kagome and Sota asked in unison.

“Are you sure you want him to go?” Mrs. Higurashi asked.

“YES!”

“OK… then I guess he can go…” Mrs. Higurashi agreed.

“Thanks Mom!” Sota said.

“Go pack twerp, we're leavin' tomorrow.”

“YES!” Sota yelled as he ran up the stairs to get to his room.

“Are you positive about this?”

“Yeah. When I was fifteen I told Sota I would take him to America at least once and this is the perfect chance.”

“You did? I didn't know that…”

“There are a lot of things you don't know…” Kagome just caught what she said. “Not like that… I've told him a lot of things you don't know about.”

“Oh like what?” Mrs. Higurashi asked.

“Stuff that stays between brothers and sisters,” Kagome explained.

“Oh I understand.”

Kagome gave her mom a smile.

Ten minutes later, Sota came down stairs with a large duffle bag and a suitcase. “I'm ready!”

“Mom can Sota stay with me tonight since we are leavin' at 5:00 AM?” Kagome asked.

“Yeah.” Mrs. Higurashi turned her gaze to her son. “Sota you better listen to your sister! If you don't and I hear about it then she will tell me and you won't have any video games for a year!”

“He'll behave.”

“Yeah Mom! I always listen to sis… well sometimes always…”

Mrs. Higurashi laughed. “I'll miss you both!” she hugged her son and daughter together. “Sota call me every night!”

“Which night? At my night time or yours?” Sota asked.

“Just make sure you call me every day.”

“OK. Bye Mom!”

She hugged her kids again. “Be careful.”

And there is my first chapter! This is another one of my “sit in front of the computer and start typin'” things. I have a pretty good idea of where it is goin' but I'm not 100% positive on it.
