Amnesia

Summary: Kagome has been cursed with amnesia but for only two days after fight with a demon. Miroku and Sango aren't around to help, as they were forced to leave, and Shippoe has long gone with Keade.

That leaves a frantic Inu-hanyou and a baffled miko alone in a hut.

The group had been fighting one of Naraku's newest incarnations. This one was a little more trickier than the others. Kagome and InuYasha had been to the left waiting for the others to distract him so they could get the shard lodged in its throat. They had been doing good until Kagome noticed something out of the ordinary. The demon controlled more then a typical miasma, no this one was more powerful then normal ones.

 

“INUYASHA LOOK OUT !!!!!!” Kagome screamed as she shoved him out of the way of the glowing miasma.

 

She was instantly shoved back by the force. She coughed frantically as she tried to lift herself off the ground, only to be picked up by InuYasha. He held her tightly in a bridal style as she continued coughing.

 

“Kagome.... are you ok?” he asked in a slight whisper

 

She merely looked up into her saviors gold molten eyes. She looked blankly as his silver locks were blown by the wind. He continued looking down at her as she stared up blankly.

 

“Ugh guys, hate to interrupt the love but... WE'RE GETTING OUR ASS KICKED” Miroku screamed

 

The pair snapped back to reality. InuYasha set Kagome down and went to fight.

“Is she ok?” Miroku asked about an hour after the fight had concluded.

 

Kagome was walking around looking and examining everything in her path.

She had even stopped to pick up Shippoe and laugh hysterically

 

“What are you? Like a squirrel or something?” she asked dumbfounded as she cocked her head to the side, examining Shippoe further.

 

InuYasha was barely able to stifle back a laugh, Miroku and Sango on the other hand were confused.

 

“Kagome...” whined the little `squirrel'

 

“Who's Kagome?” she asked, scaring the hell out of the others.

 

“Kagome, c'mon girl stop playing around” Sango begged

 

“Who are you?”

 

“Sango, you're best friend.... c'mon Kagome “

 

“Who is this Kagome person?”

 

“You! You're Kagome “ Sango screeched as she shook her by the shoulders

 

The dumbfounded Kagome stood there staring curiously at the woman. InuYasha and Miroku walked up behind her stared at her.

 

“InuYasha, what's wrong with her?” Sango asked worriedly

InuYasha merely shrugged.

 

Kagome plopped on the ground with a small thud, enough to get the groups attention long enough to see her playing (tormenting) Kilala with a torn string from the hem of her skirt.

Sango shook her head in amusement. Miroku and InuYasha stared in obliviousness

“Kagome seems to have amnesia” Keade replied carefully.

 

“Amnesia?” the group echoed

 

“Meaning she forgot who she is and where she is. She forgot all of you”

 

InuYasha stared painfully at the elder priestess. Sango and Miroku seemed as they were still digesting what happened.

 

“Please tell me there is something we can do” InuYasha growled

I can't let her forget me

 

“Well there maybe one thing.”

 

“What?!”

 

“Sango and Miroku” she looked to the couple “ this has nothing to do with Kagome but I meant to tell you, the nearing village wanted you to come and slay a demon.”

 

Every one ( had the anime style sweat drop) rolled their eyes at the elder priestess.

 

“Alright” they sighed in unison knowing they were unable to help their friend.

 

“Shippoe and I will go to the nearing villages to see if there is a cure or herbs that can help.” She said with a sympathetic look.

 

“So that leaves me and Kagome...”

 

“Yes oh and InuYasha...”

 

“Yes”

 

“People with amnesia tend to speak with out thinking ....”

 

“Yea... ok” he said still not understanding what she had implied

The group had left, Kagome was still sitting outside and InuYasha was watching her carefully.

She was picking new flowers and checking them carefully. She reminded him of Rin.

He chuckled at the thought. Next thing he knew she was sitting next to him.

 

“You never told me your name” she said sweetly

 

“InuYasha” he replied monotonously

If she doesn't remember me, she won't remember all the mean things I've done maybe this can help start over a clean slate.

 

“C'mon it smells like rain” he said sternly before walking her inside the hut.

She stared at him for a moment when they entered , she didn't even care if he noticed.

 

“What are you looking at?” he asked semi-politely remember be nice this isn't permanent but maybe it'll help

 

“Your ears, they were twitching”

 

“They usually do that”

 

“It was cute”

 

She thinks I'm cute....

No baka she thinks your ears are cute.

 

“Can I .... well...” she just reached up and gently stroked the ears.

 

InuYasha blushed at the new found affection.

Wait baka she's done this before

 

She finally finished when she heard him growling in a purr like manner

She began laughing, calmly at first but then a little harder

 

“What's so funny?” he asked dumbfoundly

 

“I'm not sure.... this just seems familiar... “

 

“And that's funny....” he asked hurtfully.

Great now she's laughing at you

 

All was silent for a moment before she suddenly stood up and walked outside.

 

“Wait where are you going?” he called as he stood up

 

“Outside silly” she called back in a matter of fact voice

 

Even with amnesia she is still the same open and idiotic Kagome. He mused

 

She started twirling in the rain. She stared wide eyed into the heavens as the rain flowed down.

 

“You're gunna get sick baka” he snickered

 

“What's life with out taking chances” she called out

 

He finally gave in a watched her, laughing at her of course.

She seems so content....

His musings stopped when she fell on her knees

 

“Kagome..” he said as he ran to her

 

“I'm ok”

 

“Then why did you..”

 

“I dunno” she laughed cutting him off

 

InuYasha rolled his eyes as the young miko stood up. she extended a hand to help him.

He noticed the gesture and decided hell why not. They stood still holding on to the others hand contently and staring off into the others eyes.

 

Once back inside the hut, Kagome and InuYasha dried off and sat by the fire.

 

Why hasn't she run from me? If she forgot me.. you'd think she would had fled.

InuYasha contemplated the reasons as Kagome looked at him wondering what was worth that much though.

 

“InuYasha ?”

 

No answer.

 

“InuYasha” she asked more sternly snapping him back

 

“Huh... oh yea?”

 

“What were you thinking about?”

 

“It's nothing”

 

“No tell me” she begged

 

“Ok it was you.” He whispered noticing her blush and then continued “ I was thinking. Since you forgot me.... don't know me “ he corrected “ why haven't you tried to run away?”

 

There was a small silence and then she turned to look at him and whispered:

“I'm not sure. Something just says not to. It's like I know you and trust you... it's kinda funny”

 

Looking hurt, InuYasha replied “how is it funny?”

 

“It's funny because even thought I don't know you, I know I can trust you and .....something else says I.... love you” she spat not realizing she had just told her deepest secret.

 

InuYasha took it the wrong way. His ears drooped and he looked to the floor “And that's funny”

Kagome seemed to realize this and went over to place her hand on his shoulder.

The second her hand touched his shoulder, she yelped and fell back wards.

 

“Kagome....” he asked

 

“You shocked me.... “ she whispered laughing that she had over reacted

 

InuYasha rolled his eyes, knowing the moment was lost, and went over and picked her up. he laughed. A genuine laugh. Kagome looked up at him as if something went wrong

 

“Hey Yash?”

 

He cocked his head at his new nickname

 

“Yea”

 

“Why did you look so hurt a second ago?”

 

“Whaddya mean?”

 

“Well I said something told me I loved you and then you looked hurt?”

 

“Well its just.... Kagome see ::sigh:: never mind”

 

“No I wanna know”

 

“Ok....” hell she wont remember this anyway “ it's because I love you.... I never told you that before so when you began laughing... it... well I thought you were laughing because you loved me or something... it's stupid”

 

Neither said anything, InuYasha had his head hung low, Kagome scooted closer to him.

“InuYasha...”

 

“Just.... just forget it ok.”

 

“No I won't just forget it... you shouldn't feel stupid.” She said quietly .

 

About that moment a huge lighting bold snapped sending a frightened Kagome into InuYasha's lap. She buried her head on his shoulder, he laughed slightly.

 

“Kagome...”

 

“Sorry.... I just... well... yea ya know” she mumbled, he apparently understood.

 

“It's getting late Kagome.. you need to get some rest” he mumbled as he held her closer ...

 

“Yea.. thank you InuYasha.. good night” she whispered sweetly as she yawned

 

“Yea.. good night.”

 

That night they fell asleep in each others arms...

 

That morning....

 

Kagome awoke to find herself snuggled in InuYasha's arms ..

 

“Hmmm.... InuYasha?!” she screeched as she fell off his lap.

 

“Kagome what is it? Is it a demon?!” he yelled back unsheathing Tetsusaiga

 

“No, no sorry I just...” she trailed off with a blush.

 

“Say InuYasha..” she started up a moment later

 

“Yea what is it?”

 

“Where are Sango and Miroku ... and Shippoe for that matter?”

 

Hmmm so the amnesia was a one night thing... wonder if she remembers anything...

 

“InuYasha?”

 

“Yea sorry... Sango and Miroku left to slay a demon.... Shippoe is with Keade getting some herbs... say Kagome are you feeling better?”

“Better... what do you mean?”

 

InuYasha's ears drooped ... maybe she doesn't remember...

 

“Two days ago you were hit by a poison miasma it gave you amnesia but just for yesterday when you woke up.”

 

“Oh... InuYasha “

 

“Yea....”

 

“Thanks .. for taking care of me. I know I can be a burden”

 

“You aren't a burden” he said shocking her.

 

“InuYasha, I vaguely remember saying things yesterday... can you tell me what I said?”

Please don't let it be what I think it is

 

“You didn't say much.... you just liked being out in the rain, and yousaidyoulovedme” he added the last part in a mumble

 

“I said what?”

 

“You.... you said you... loved me... did you mean it?” he asked not daring to look up.

 

In was a long pause, InuYasha took that as a bad sign and got up...

 

“Wait..” she said as she got up and walked over to him...

“InuYasha, you and everyone else knows I love you.. of course I meant it.”

 

A genuine smile appeared across InuYasha's features.

 

“Good” he said as he pulled her in to a much needed kiss.

 

Outside three adults and one child stood watching the couple as they kissed .

 

“Bout time” the group chorused...
