Scrapes and scars

I do not own the characters but I do own the story line!

“I'm going home Inuyasha!” Kagome yelled at the half-dog demon.

“Fine then go I don't need you here anyway!” He screamed back at the black haired reincarnation of a Priestess named Kikyo.

“Well if that's how you feel maybe I'll just stay home then!” she shouted back as she fought back the tears and turned to jump down the Bone-eaters well.

“Kagome!” he shouted back in protest. “I-“

“No Inuyasha I get it. Finally it makes sense to me that you really don't need me here. You can always get Kikyo to find the jewel shards.” The tears were now flowing down her flushed cheeks. “She's always so much better then me even though she's dead!”

“You just had to bring her into this didn't you?” Inuyasha yelled as he regretted even fighting back with Kagome. He knew she was really mad. Never had she brought Kikyo into their minor arguments.

“I'm not the one who brought her in Inuyasha.” Kagome was practically sobbing now. “It's always about her! Always! She's why we argue!”

“Don't pit the blame on her Kagome! She doesn't even belong in this conversation!”

“Conversation? Is that what this is? A conversation? Well then I'm done talking Inuyasha!” With this she jumped down the well back to her time.

Kagome landed in her time and set at the bottom of her well and cried. Sobbing furiously, her head in her hands, she began to shake as the memories of last night came to mind. It strayed on one thing. The thought of loving Inuyasha knowing that he could never love her back because of Kikyo. Inuyasha, she thought, why did this happen? Why did I have to meet him? He was her best friend but he loved another.
Last night was awful, she thought as she wiped the tears that were still falling. She had spotted Inuyasha with Kikyo. She shook even more at the memory of Inuyasha's lips pressed against Kikyos' and then the one where Inuyasha had been stabbed by Kikyo's dagger only to find that he didn't care. He let her get away as Kagome had watched the one she loved be hurt by the one he cared most for. How she longed to be loved by him that way. At this she thought about the last things he had said to her. “I don't need you” seemed to cause her heart to stop beating and made her cry even harder if that was possible.

“You're so stupid,” she told herself, “He would never love you!”

Kagome pushed herself to her feet and climbed out of the well. She walked up to her house taking her shoes off at the entrance and turned to walk up the stairs to her room.
No one was in the house. They were proubly out at the grocery store. She opened the door to her room and fell on her pink blanket covered bed crying into her pillow.

Inuyasha stood by the well still staring at the place Kagome had just been. His head fell as he set down beside it with his head in his hands.

“She can't just expect me to not still care for Kikyo,” he told himself aloud.

“No that's not what she wants,” the monk Miroku said, walking out of a clearing. He had just been taking a walk when he overheard Inuyasha talking to himself.

Inuyasha raised his head to look at him surprised. “What would you know Miroku?” Inuyasha asked the monk as he set down beside him.

“I think it's not what I know but what you know. She is in love with a man whom is torn into as many pieces as the jewel shards we now search for. She's tried so hard to fight you for the last piece but she can't win because you can't decide who to give it to,” he explained, “and by doing this you've shattered the pieces of her soul. You just keep stabbing her heart in the same place and after all of this she continues to keep trying to reach out for you hoping you'll grab her hand and hold on with no regrets. She's hoping you won't forget her or let her go. That's why she waits for you to bring her back to you”

Miroku rose up and headed toward Keade's village without looking back at Inuyasha.
Inuyasha had known why Kagome had been this way as his mind fell on Kikyo. She was why but he couldn't help the state he was in. Confusion was the feeling he had at that moment. Kagome had always been there for him and risked her life for him as he did for her, but the fact that she could die more easily than he could, haunted him. He needed her help to find the jewel shards but was that the only reason he needed her? Kagome had asked him this question before but never had received the answer. He felt at ease with Kagome beside him. He had gotten so used to her being there that he felt unwhole without her.

“I can't just let Kikyo go so easily,” he told himself, “But I can't lose Kagome either.”

Kagome woke up as pain shot through her head. She held her head as she set up in bed. Night had fallen over outside. She realized that everyone was in bed and her alarm clock f lashed 2:00am. How had she slept that long? She went to get up but quickly set back down as she held her stomach as it ached. She had a fever and her head was pounding. She lay back down on her bed covering up as she shivered from the cold. She was asleep within minuets.

Inuyasha fumbled with the window to Kagome's room opening it as he came in. He couldn't stand to sleep without first knowing if she was all right. He breathed in the smell of her that surrounded the room, her room. Turing his gaze to her lying on the soft bed he had once before slept on he saw Kagome asleep. He twitched as he smelt the sickness on her. Quickly walking over to her he felt her head. It was warm and he could feel sweat running off her forehead as he brushed back her hair. Her breathing was heavy and rapid. He didn't know what to do now that he knew she was sick.
Inuyasha rummaged around in Kagome's room stumbling upon another blanket which he covered her with. Her shivering relaxed and stopped soon after. He then went to her bathroom and grabbed a rag in which he got some cool water from the faucet. He knew how to turn it on and off because he had seen her little brother do it before. He rung out the rag and walked back to Kagome's room and put it on her head to bring down the fever. He then sat beside her and watched her as she dreamed.
Kagome's fever finally went down around 3:00am. Inuyasha who was not bent on leaving without knowing she was okay, regardless of his pride, stayed by her and slept with his body propped up against her bed in a sitting position. He would never admit it but Kagome held a power over him. This power was not just the rosary beads that hung around his neck but the power of love she held for him in her heart. His heart raced every time he saw her. His soul was connected to her and the connection could never be broken. It was weaved to tight around it that he couldn't bare to be away from her for long. It was like having only half a soul without her.
Morning broke over the house as Kagome stirred. She had flipped her arm over the bed to find it resting on Inuyasha's shoulder. His eyes jolted open to find Kagome staring at him when he turned around.

“Inuyasha?” she asked, “Did you stay here all night?” She reached on her head to find the rag he had put there hours before.

“I uh well you were sick and I uh…” his voice trailed off thinking of how embarrassed he looked right now and this being not an emotion he liked to share with others turned his head so as not to look at her.

“Thank you, Inuyasha,” she added as he turned away. “I'm sorry about yesterday.”

“You don't have to apologize,” he told her still not looking at her. “It was my…fault.”

“Inuyasha? You're apologizing to me?” she asked stunned.

“I uh just forget it!” he barked at her.

Kagome knew this was her Q to change the subject. She stepped from the bed shaking a little because she was still dizzy. Inuyasha jumped to his feet ready to catch her if she would fall.

“Are you okay Kagome?” he asked as his facial expression changed to concern. “Maybe you should lay back down.”

“I'm alright Inuyasha,” she assured him. She stumbled on a book in the floor and hit her leg against her desk.

“Kagome!” Inuyasha rushed beside her dropping the Tetsuiga on the floor.
“Oww!” she answered as the scrape began to bleed.

Inuyasha could smell the fresh scent of blood as he grabbed the rag she had just had and wiped the wound. Inuyasha looked her in the eyes and mumbled what sounded like stupid as his eyes flashed a scarlet red. The scent of blood was over whelming him. It was the scent of the one he most cherished. He sensed another thing as well. Fear was it's name and it was also coming from the same person in which came the blood. He quickly turned and grabbed his sword.

Kagome backed away from him as he moved back to her. “What just happened Inuyasha?” she asked him.

“I don't know,” he answered her, feeling hurt that she was afraid of him.

Kagome seeing the pain he felt came closer not wanting him to feel like that. She held his hand. “Thanks Inuyasha. Now how about you help me down stairs so we can eat?”

“Kagome no one is awake. It's to early,” he told her.

“Yes well I can make something. I'm really hungry and I'm sure you are too.”

Knowing he could not win and that she was not lying about them both being hungry he helped her to her feet. Inuyasha held tight around her waist. He liked the feeling of her leaning on him knowing she still trusted him and the fact he had an excuse to hold her. Even if she didn't know it Inuyasha still claimed Kagome as his. It was something that was engraved into his heart that it wasn't something he had to think about.
Kagome liked that he held her to him so close and cared for her enough to keep her that close and take care of her. Even though she knew his heart was not hers to take she couldn't help feeling the way she did for him. He had always made sure she came first even when it came to everyone else and even sometimes Kikyo. This hurt her but she pushed the thought away as they walked into the kitchen.

“How about some eggs and bacon?” Kagome asked Inuyasha regaining her will to move by herself. She released herself from him as he nodded in agreement to her question.

Inuyasha kept his eyes on Kagome as she moved around the kitchen. The clock on the stove said 6:00am. It was Sunday and she didn't have school today. She could feel his eyes on her like they always were but it didn't bother her she just continued to make breakfast. She served their food and they ate without a word until Kagome had put their plates into the sink.

“Do you want to go get some food for everyone with me?” she asked Inuyasha, “Were running kind of low on food and I'm sure Shippo would like something good to snack on. Maybe I can even get something for Kilala.”

Kagome smiled one of her enchanting smiles at Inuyasha and he could feel his heart melt. He could tell that she was still hurt from yesterday but decided not to worry about it and that she would be okay. He nodded his head in agreement. They were running low on Ninja food.

“I'm sure not a lot of people are out right now and I think I can find some of my dads old clothes you can wear.” Kagome wondered to a closet that set in the hallway and found some jeans that were ripped at the knee, a black muscle shirt, sneakers, and a baseball hat her dad had worn a lot before he died. She then sent Inuyasha to the bathroom to put them on after explaining how to fasten the jeans.

When Inuyasha came forth from the bathroom he had his shirt on backwards and he hadn't put his hat on yet. She had to admit she was really glad he belonged to her in this era. All her friends thought she was dating him. She helped him fix the shirt and he put the hat on side wards but she didn't fix this deciding that it looked okay. Her gaze shifted when she realized he still had his sword.

“We need to figure out what to do with that sword,” she told him worried that he could be arrested for being armed and dangerous.”

“What's wrong with it?” he asked feeling stupid in this outfit. “Kagome you know I can't be without it!”

“I know,” she explained, “but around here you could get in trouble for packing that around.”

Kagome got an idea as she ran back to the closet and pulled a guitar out of its case. She quickly ran back to the kitchen and placed his sword into it. “Here pack this.” She handed the guitar case back to him helping him put the strap around his shoulder.

“This is normal?” Inuyasha asked feeling even more dumb than before.

“Well not that normal but close enough,” she added. She smiled again but this time out of pride he looked really good in this outfit.

Kagome ran upstairs to change herself and was back within minuets. She wore a blue blouse and a jean skirt. She was always in an outfit similar to the one she wore most of the time in his era, Inuyasha thought to himself, but it suited her just the same.
They walked down the un-crowded street stopping in different stores to buy different things. People were starting to stir and crowd the streets by 9:00am. The odd couple got some weird looks. It was proubly the color of Inuyasha's hair that got the most looks. It was a silver color. Kagome had hoped that she wouldn't run into anyone she knew but soon was spotted by Hojo. She averted her gaze and stood closer to Inuyasha hoping he would think it was someone else but she wasn't that lucky.

“Kagome!”

Inuyasha turned suddenly to stare at Hojo who stopped suddenly as Inuyasha stood in front of Kagome.

“Hi Hojo,” she said coming around Inuyasha to look at Hojo. “It's okay Inuyasha,” she told him blushing.

“Hey,” Hojo continued, “Why did you blow me off last time?” Hojo averted his gaze to Inuyasha. Was he the reason? He asked himself.

“I uh I didn't feel well,” she lied.

“Who's this?” Hojo asked looking at Inuyasha.

Kagome grabbed the hand that went out attempting to hurt Hojo that belonged to her companion in her hand. “He's a really good friend of mine,” She told him this time not lying.

Hojo's eyes fell on Inuyasha's hair and the cap he was wearing. Inuyasha's eyes studied him thinking how it sucked that he had another guy to worry about in her era. What? Wait worried? Why was he worried he didn't really own her but still he couldn't help but feel annoyed with this new guy.

“Hi I'm Hojo,” he told Inuyasha holding out his hand but Kagome would not release his other hand to shake it. He didn't mind though he didn't want to be friendly to Hojo. He just assume let Kagome have his hand.

“Hi,” he answered quickly and Kagome could tell he was annoyed.

“Well we have to go Hojo,” she told Him. “We're shopping for my mom,” Kagome lied again.

“How about a date Monday after school Kagome?” he asked her quickly before turning.

“Sure,” she told him though she doubted she would attend. She chanced a look at Inuyasha.

“I don't like him,” he told her seeing that she was looking at him. He also didn't like the sound of what she had agreed to. “A date?” he asked.

Kagome blushed as she answered, “It's kinda like a step before becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. Like a meeting to see if it's going to work I guess you could say.” She felt suddenly hollow like she was cheating on Inuyasha but he wasn't her boyfriend so why? She couldn't just wait forever for someone to claim her could she?

“So he's your boyfriend?” Inuyasha asked trying but doing poorly to hide his concern.
“No he's not my boyfriend but my friends would like me to date him rather than yo-,” she stopped suddenly. She had gone to far and bowed her head in embarrassment.

“Than me?” he asked turning red. He felt weird suddenly he really liked the idea. Wait no I…I don't know he thought.

“It's just that my friends found out I spend time with you and,” she paused this is so stupid she thought but then continued, “they assumed you and I were together and that you're to dangerous for me to be with. I'm just trying to make them stop suspecting me.”

“Is that what this is about?” he asked.

“Ye-,” she was cut off.

“Kagome!” shouted three girls all Kagome's age.

“Yuka, Erie, Ayumie,” she said, “How are you?”

“Good,” exclaimed Erie.

“Who's this?” Yuka asked staring at Inuyasha.

“Inuyasha these are my friends I was telling you about,” she said pleading for him to play along.

“Keh, Hey,” he said coolly trying to play along with Kagome feeling rather annoyed with them after what he had just heard that they had said about him. “Kagome we have to go now,” he said taking her hand to lead her away, blushing.

“Oh Inuyasha I think we deserve to know some things about you,” Yuka told him.

“Like what?” he asked impatiently.

“Like the fact you're ruining her life,” Ayumie told him.

Kagome felt her heart sink she knew what was coming now.

“Yeah we know all about you! Two-Timer!” she told him quickly

“Oh great yet some more people destine to ruin me and Kagome's nice time together by bringing up her,” he told them.

“So it's true?” Yuka asked him as Kagome bent her head knowing Inuyasha was trying his best to play along.

“Look she's an old girlfriend that resurfaces sometimes. Can we please get going?” he asked Kagome.

“No one more question!” Ayumie demanded.

“If you love her why don't you kiss her,” she told him with a smirk on her face.

Kagome looked at him eyes wide studying him as if trying to tell him not to. He could tell she was thoroughly embarrassed.

“Keh, you really think I'm like that?” he asked them playing their game, “what me and Kagome do in private doesn't concern your eye's prying into it.” With this said he pulled Kagome along beside him down the street as she looked back at them hoping her look of apology was enough.

When they were a good thirty feet away he turned her to him.

“I'm sorry, Inuyasha,” Kagome said unable to look him in the face.

“I'm not worried about it,” he told her, “I'm glad someone looks after you when I'm not around.” He smiled but quickly turned as not to give her any le-way and she laughed.

“I think we can go back,” she told him as she looked at the bags they were carrying.

“Is this enough?” he asked.

“I'm pretty sure,” she assured him.
