`Kagome, where's the shard?' Inuyasha called to the girl standing next to him.
`In its beak!' the girl called Kagome called back. She stared at the huge crow demon her hanyou friend was battling. It had a shard of the shikon jewel in it, making it more powerful than normal. Inuyasha raised his huge sword, Tessaiga.
`KAZE NO KIZU!' he shouted, bringing it down and sending energy waved at the demon. It gave an ear-splitting scream, and tore into a thousand pieces. Seeing it dead, Kagome walked to it, and retrieved the shard from the remains of the demon.
`Way to go, Kagome, Inuyasha!' came a voice from behind them. They turned to see the rest of their gang, Sango, Miroku, Kirara and Shippou coming towards them. Inuyasha looked at his friends proudly. He had made more friends then ever recently. First, there was Kagome, who had miko powers, then Shippou, a young fox demon. Along came Miroku, a lecherous monk with a hand cursed with a void that sucked anything into it, and finally Sango, a demon-slayer and her pet two-tailed cat demon Kirara. He loved these days he spent with them, collecting shards of the Shikon jewel, a special jewel that could grant your wish. He wanted to become full youkai with it.
Unfortunately, another demon had started collecting them: his worst enemy, Naraku. Inuyasha hated him with a passion he could not express… 50 years ago, he had fallen in love with a miko name Kikyou, the keeper of the Shikon no Tama. Naraku had manipulated them, and had managed to turn them against each other. Kikyou, in her rage, pinned Inuyasha to a tree with a sacred arrow. 50 years later, Kagome tumbled down a well in her shrine, and found herself 500 years earlier in the Feudal Era. She found Inuyasha and freed him from the tree. And now, they were seeking the shards of the jewel she had accidentally shattered with an arrow. However, a witch had revived Kikyou, whose desire was now to kill Inuyasha. Inuyasha was torn between his old love for Kikyou and his feelings for Kagome… He definitely felt more for Kagome he decided, watching her talk with Sango. He ran a hand through his long silver hair.
`Hey, everyone, I have lunches!' Kagome cried. `Let's eat!'
The group settled on a nearby patch of grass, and Kagome served them food. Inuyasha sighed happily with a bowl of ramen in his hand. He loved this life, and would give it up for nothing in the world…

`Hello, Dr. Kashita,' said a lady with long black hair, and beautiful purple eyes. `How is our son?' At her side was a tall man with long silver hair, and a worried expression on his handsome face. He had striking amber coloured eyes. The doctor, a pretty woman with black hair tied in a low ponytail. She smiled at the couple.
`How many times must I ask you to call me Kikyou?' The couple smiled back.
`Sorry, Doc… Kikyou. But, our son, how is he?' The doctor sighed. She was going to have to tell them sooner or later, but she just couldn't…
`He is fine, but isn't showing any sign of coming out.'
`Can we see him?' asked the man, a little anxiously.
`Of course, as usual.' The doctor, Kikyou, led the couple through a door into a room with padded walls, and a barred window. In the corned of the room was a by of about 17 dressed in white hospital clothes. His eyes were unfocused; he was staring of in space. He had long silver hair, he looked a lot like his father, the man who had come to visit him. The boy's jaw was clenched. The woman felt tears brimming in her eyes as she crouched beside the teenager.
`Inuyasha, baby, can you hear me? It's your mommy, Izayoi! Can you hear me? Inuyasha!'
The boy didn't even stir. The woman, Izayoi, sobbed violently. She sat on the ground, and took the boy into her arms.
`Inuyasha...' Her husband put a comforting arm around her shoulder.
`Any news?' he asked the doctor.
`Well as I've told you before, he lives in his little fantasy world. He made up friends and enemies, and refuses to come back to our world. We listened to his ramblings, however, and learned a few things… He seems to have a girlfriend called Kagome, probably named after the nurse who checks on him, and he has an ex-girlfriend named after me… He has other friends… An enemy named Naraku…'
`He did use to have a friend called that,' the father said.
`And… you seem to be… dead… He also thinks he is a half-demon, and has a brother named Sesshomaru.'
`He does,' said the mother. `Sesshy just graduated… He promised to came visit Inu at some point… He misses him…'
`He… umm… also thinks he lives in Feudal Japan, and he seems to be on a treasure hunt of some kind…' Kikyou looked at the broken family, and couldn't help but feel a wave of pity. She could never get used to working in an asylum… There were so many shattered dreams… She dreaded doing what she was going to have to tell the Takahashis… But she had to… They had to know…
`Mr. And Mrs. Takahashi, I have to tell you something…' they looked at her, and she felt her heart break under the sadness in their eyes. `Inuyasha has been… gone… for almost 5 years now… We fear that he… won't be coming… back. He's been gone to long, he won't be able to let go of his fantasy world.' Izayoi stared at the doctor in disbelief. She didn't have the heart to cry anymore. She just stared, her mouth open and her lower lip trembling. Her husband tightened his grip on her shoulder.
`My baby… My little Inu-baby… He's gone? Forever? No! No, he's there, he's still there, he's not going to leave, I love him, he can't go, I need him… I…' Her voice caught, halting her rambling. She stared at her baby, his eyes still staring into space, and the eyes would never look at her again… They were looking at an imaginary world inside his head, where he was happy… where she was dead. She started sobbing into her son's shoulder. Her husband rubbed her back helplessly, tears also appearing in his eyes.
`I'm so sorry…' said Kikyou, exiting the room to which Inuyasha was forever confined. She could still hear the muffled sobs through the door, and the occasional `My baby… My baby!' coming from Izayoi… She leaned against the wall, and let out the air she had been holding unconsciously. She hated doing this… A tear ran down her cheek. Behind the door, the shattered family was still crying over its youngest member's fate… Over the sparkling eyes they would never see again… The voice they would never hear again… A soul that would never be free.
