Chapter Two:

Kagome sat up and looked around. She was presently in a small, mostly white room that she assumed was still in the school.

"Mornin' Sunshine," A masculine voice said from somewhere behind her.

Kagome looked over to see the boy from earlier sitting in a chair, not but an arms' distance away. He flashed her a smile and held out his hand.

"Name's Tensei Takai," He said shaking her hand. "But you, my dear Kagome-sama, can call me Miroku."

Kagome froze and stared at him. Seeing that she was about to faint again Miroku quickly sat beside her and cupped her face.

"Kagome-sama, stay with me. Don't faint again. Please." He almost begged.

Kagome nodded and stared into amethyst depths. She continued staring at him and then slowly brought one of her hands to his face.

"Is it really you?" She asked gently tracing his cheekbones. He simply smiled at her and removed his own hands from her face.

"How is this possible?" She asked.

Miroku only shrugged. "Well if you are Kikyo's reincarnation, I see no reason why I cannot be reincarnated as well."

"Yes but I don't remember anything about Kikyo's life."

Miroku shrugged again and turned his head to the door. He could hear the nurse shuffling around outside of it.

A grin cracked on his face and Kagome couldn't help but scoot back from him. Miroku went and grabbed one of her hands, placing a kiss on her palm.

"My dear Kagome-sama. If I thought we had time I would make good use of this bed but seeing as the nurse will be returning soon we will just have to postpone any fun until a later time." He said winking at her playfully.

Kagome turned bright red and immediately stared down at her shoes. Miroku just laughed and got up from the bed. He offered his hand down to her and she shyly took it. Kagome wobbly got up but had to use Miroku to balance her.

"You okay?" He asked in a soft and serious tone.

Kagome nodded and looked up into her face. His eyes were full of care but they also had a mischievous glint to them and she couldn't help but narrow her eyes.

"If your hand goes any farther down they'll have to take you to the hospital." She warned.

Miroku pulled away laughing. He brought both hands up as a sign of surrender and stepped away.

The nurse walked in about this time to see Kagome standing.

"I see you are better Ms. Higurashi. I hope you are okay. I noticed from your records that you do tend to get sick a lot. If you need to call home, the principal has given you permission to go home." She said walking over to Kagome and checking for a fever.

"No ma'am. I am fine. Just a little overwhelmed I suppose." Kagome said looking at her feet.

"Well I have a note for you if you do intend to go back to classes. You've only missed your first." The nurse said looking admiringly over at Kagome.

"You, however, Mr. Tensei, have not been excused from any of your classes. Though I appreciate you bringing Ms. Higurashi here you didn't need to stay. You'll have to take an unexcused absence and a tardy."

Miroku just grinned at the nurse as if he had known this all along. Kagome stared at him mystified. 'He stayed with me even though he knew he would get in trouble.' Kagome thought.

Miroku winked over at her. "Well if there is nothing else, I think Kagome-sama and I need to be getting to our classes. I'll escort her to her next class so we are sure there are no other nasty spills."

The nurse rolled her eyes and handed Kagome a note. Kagome took the note and gathered her stuff. Miroku opened the door for Kagome and guided her through with his hand on the small of her back.

"I can't believe I've already missed one of my classes. I mean, could I have gotten a worse start?" Kagome whined not noticing that Miroku kept his hand on her back.

"I'm sure I could think of some things that could make it worse. Look at it this way; I'm sure your friends have now started rumors of you carrying my love child." Kagome gasped when he said this. "Come on, I'm not only in the top percentile of my class, but I'm also the most desirable, handsome, charming, etc., etc." He said waving his arms with each point and grinning madly.

Kagome couldn't help but roll her eyes. "That is all I need is to have pregnancy added to my list of diseases."

"Yeah what was that all about? You haven't been sick."

"No. I haven't. My grandfather would make up these ridiculous diseases to make up for my long absences from school due to my shard hunting."

"Ah, that explains how you got away from school. I figured that you had flunked out."

"Wait-how did you know I wasn't just some recurring dream or something?"

Miroku smirked down at her. "Do not worry dear Kagome-sama. You are often in my dreams, and oh are they great dreams too." Miroku winked causing Kagome to blush furiously. "I'll have to share them with you sometime to see if you can really do all of which you do in my dream."

"Miroku stop it."

"What?"

"You are still just as much a pervert as ever."

Miroku gasped and tried to look insulted.

"I don't know what you are talking about Kagome-sama. I was merely talking about your ability to cook something other than ramen. The way to my heart is truly through my stomach."

Kagome rolled her eyes. "I was sure it was through a different body part, one lower on your person."

Miroku smiled and guided her down another hallway. "Here is your classroom Kagome-sama."

"Don't call me that, please."

"Of course Kagome, anything you want." He said bringing her hand up to his lips.

Kagome smiled and bowed a thank you.

*~*~*~*

Kagome's day had gone from bad to worse. When she arrived at class the teacher was very nice about her situation. The rest of the day she was hounded by girls that she knew and that she didn't about her relationship with the "gorgeous hunk". Kagome took to sneaking around trying to avoid the crowds.

She didn't see Miroku at all for the rest of the day. She almost believed she had dreamed it all, except for the hundreds of girls who reminded her of him every second!

"Kagome!" A familiar voice yelled from behind her.

She turned around and waved. "Hi Hojo."

Hojo ran up to her. "Hi Kagome. How are you? I heard you fainted earlier today? Are you feeling okay?"

Kagome smiled at Hojo and his persistent questions. "I'm fine Hojo. Thank you. I just got overwhelmed. I'm all better now though."

"I'm glad to hear that. I wouldn't want you to get sick again." Hojo said with a slight blush on his cheeks. "Do you need a ride home? It may not be the best idea for you to walk home right now."

"Thank you Hojo, I'll be fine."

"Are you sure? It's not a big deal."

"She has a ride home." A voice said coming up behind her. An arm encircled her waist and her back became acquainted with a well sculpted chest.

Hojo's brows knitted as he looked at the dark haired boy that had come up behind Kagome.

"Kagome?" Hojo asked.

"I'm sorry Hojo. This is my friend, Mir-"

"Tensei Takai" Miroku corrected her. He held out his hand for Hojo to shake.

Hojo eyed Miroku warily but shook his hand all the same.

"How do you know each other?" Hojo asked the two that were still standing so close they were touching.

"Old friends." Kagome said briefly.

"Old friends? I thought I overheard that you only moved here a year ago." Hojo asked eyeing Miroku again. Kagome widened her eyes and opened her mouth to start to try explain some more.

"Kagome, we need to get going." Miroku stepped up to stop Kagome from stumbling over herself anymore.

"Going?" Kagome and Hojo asked together.

Miroku just rolled his eyes. "Yeah, let's go." He stepped away from Kagome and held out his hand for her to take. Kagome took it and said her goodbyes to Hojo. He stood and watched as the two walked away.

Miroku led her to his car and opened up the passenger side door for her. Kagome gracefully got into the small two door coup.

Miroku walked around got into the car as well. He started up the car and quickly rolled out of the parking lot.

"Miroku?" Kagome began questioning him.

He had a tight grip on the wheel. "Is there anywhere you want to go or do you just want to tell me where you live so I can take you home?" He asked.

Kagome looked at him but just nodded.

"Well? Which is it?" He snapped.

"Take me home." She said and gave him the directions.

The rode the rest of the way in silence. When they came up on the shrine Kagome got out quickly.

"Thanks for the ride." She said quietly and monotonously.

"Kagome-"He said but she closed the door before he could say anything else.

She raced up the stairs of the shrine quickly.

"Hey Kagome, how was your first day?" Her grandfather asked from where he was sweeping on the shrine grounds.

Kagome said something quickly leaving her grandfather confused. She ran up to her room and pulled open her desk drawer.

Kagome pulled out a sketchbook her mother had given her when she had returned home. Kagome had been "blessed", as her mother said, with her father's ability to draw and paint. So when Kagome returned home, her mother had implored her to draw everything from her journeys so she could remember everything.

Kagome did just that and she quickly fingered through the pages looking for the page in which she had drawn the lecherous monk. She opened the page and looked at the detailed drawing.

"It's really him." Kagome said looking at the drawing that was almost identical to the boy who had just dropped her off.

Kagome sighed. 'Man things are just getting weird.'

Thanks to HeavenlyAnimeAng for proofreading again for me! You are just so awesome!

Okay I have a couple recommendations for y'all:

1) On ff.net, Chasing Methuselah by Sandra E. This was recently completed and this fic gave me a lot of inspiration for ATAL. Sandra E is the most amazing writer ever and probably the most gifted writer I have read on any of the sites I post/read. I can't even go into how awesome she is and this fic. I do have to say, don't read this fic until you have a big chunk of time to do it b/c it's a long piece and you'll never want to put it down. I literally stayed up all night to catch up with the many chapters and it was just so awesome!!! I really do recommend this to everyone, even if you don't like Miroku/Kagome pairings. It is just superbly written!

2) On ff.net, Lessons by Horridporrid. This is another Kagome/Miroku pairing. It's very different from the other one but just as great. Its Miroku at his greatest-perverted as anything! I wish I had more to say about this one but just read it and you'll see how awesome it is!
