A Dream Come True?
He walked into the room and smiled to where I lay waiting for him on my bed. I patted the bed next to myself, inviting him to join me. He grinned and closed the door, locking it behind him. He turned back to face me and slowly started to unbutton his shirt, his sensual lips stretched in a teasing smirk. He slid the shirt off his shoulders, revealing a well-toned chest. His long silver hair cascading over his shoulders and down his back like a waterfall.
He took another step closer, his hands dropping down the button of his jeans. When he decided to sit down next to me instead of continuing with his stripping I couldn't help but pout, but that disappointment was soon erased as his lips descended towards mine, claiming my lips as his for what seemed like an eternity.
When we pulled apart for breath he ran his hands down from where they had been nestled in my hair to move the blanket away from my body.
Suddenly, I felt cold and opened my eyes. Yes, unfortunately, that had been a dream. A dream that I had been having lately but was not sure why. When I looked up I realized the reason for my sudden discomfort. A young man was standing over me, staring at my body. A young man with long white hair and...are those dog-ears? <Very cute is what they are...> I thought with an internal giggle. He looked almost like the man from my dream, except he was more cute where as my dream guy had been drop dead gorgeous, and of course his hair was white and not the shimmering silver strands of said dream guy. After a moment I realized he was still staring at me, so I did the first thing that came naturally.
"HENTAI!!" I screamed, snatching my blanket back from the boy and covered my body. "Who the hell are you?" I demanded once I was sufficiently hidden from his view.
"I should ask you that," the boy said, finally tearing his eyes from my now, thankfully, covered body.
Being sure to wrap the blanket even more securely around myself I sat up and said, "I'm Lena Nordread, and you are..?" He was staring at me like I had been talking a foreign language before I realized that, for him, I had been. Here I was in Japan and I had introduced myself in English, so I repeated myself.
He grunted and said, "Inuyasha. Where are you from? I've never seen anyone like you?"
I snorted and mumbled, "Must not get out much."
Before Inuyasha could reply there was the sound of someone or something approaching. The boy jumped and yelled, "Kagome, I told ya to stay there. I'm not sure if this stranger is dangerous or not."
I jumped up, yelling indignantly, "I'm not dangerous unless I need to be!" I stopped yelling and said in English, "I'm not the one who showed up in the middle of the night and gave you such a rude awakening..."
"What was the wench?" Inuyasha shouted but stopped and started at me. "You smell human, but you look like no human I've ever seen."
I sighed and said, "I am human, I'm just not from around here. I had decided to go on a short journey but got lost."
A girl emerged from the bushes and stared at me. <Ugh! can't they stop that...> I thought, getting very tired of all this very quickly.
"You're...what are you?" She suddenly looked very apologetic and flushed. "I didn't mean that! I just meant... Are you American? How'd you get here?"
I smiled and bowed to her saying, "I am American. My name is Lena. I take it you are Kagome then?" <Why did I just bow? Oh well, today's been so weird, and it's only just begun...>
She nodded and just stared at me, but before she could ask any more questions a new comer jumped down from the trees above and said in a haughty voice, "While it is touching to see your wench bond with another worthless human, I would rather have the Tetsusaiga."
I looked the new comer over. He had long silver hair falling down his back, a pleasant <more like gorgeous> face with a blue crescent moon on his forehead and two red stripes, one on each cheek. He was wearing a white kimono with armor on one shoulder and a large fluffy thing <his tail? a boa?> on the other shoulder. He stood there elegantly, watching everything around him. He looked just like the man from my dreams, only difference being in his clothes and the markings on his face.
I took a tentative step toward him, on hand reaching out, as though afraid he'd disappear. "You look so familiar," I said softly, not realizing I had again spoken in English.
He looked surprised and questioned in the same language, "How do you, a lowly human, know the language of demons? And I cannot look familiar to someone as unworthy as you, where would you have seen me, Sesshoumaru, Lord of the Western Lands?"
"In a dream," I said softly, looking down to the ground, no longer willing to meet the beautiful golden eyes that always held such warmth in my dreams, but now were cold and indifferent.
I didn't realize he had moved closer until his hand wrapped itself firmly around my throat. "What kind of witch are you?" he asked in his expressionless voice.
Without bothering to look up I said, "I am no witch. I am merely a human with no power and no longer a reason to live. So it doesn't matter if you strangle me or just snap my neck. Just do whatever it is that you're going to do soon so I don't have to wait. I'd rather get on with something else."
He didn't make a move except to send a glare at Inuyasha and Kagome that clearly said "go away!" When they finally did leave he set me down surprisingly gently. "Human, who are you, what are you doing here, and why is it that you do not fear me?"
I sat back down on my sleeping pallet, wrapping my blanket more securely around myself. "My name is Lena Nordread. I am from America, a country across the ocean, to the West. I came here seeking an answer to the dreams I've been having since my family was killed. It seems you were the one that was in my dreams, though that is really hard to believe after seeing you. I am not afraid of you because the last thing I believed in has turned out to be a lie, like everything else in my life, so there is no reason for me to care." After saying that I finally found the courage to look up at him again. He caught my eyes with his and my breath caught in my throat. Even with that non-look in place he was so handsome.
"How was I different in your dreams?" The question took me off guard and I stared openly at him before regaining myself.
"Well," I began, "you wore different clothes. No fluffy, no markings, and your eyes are different." He raised his eyebrows and I explained, "In my dreams your eyes are always warm and kind, never so hard and cold."
He growled softly making me jump slightly, afraid that I had said something that he didn't like. "We are being watched. Dress yourself," he said in a low voice and turning away from me to give me some semblance of privacy. I changed into pants and a shirt, slipped on shoes and put everything back into my bag. He turned around sensing I was finished and in a movement too fast for me to see I found him standing before me in his arms and leaping into the air with a cloud under our feet.
"Where are we going?" I asked him, staring around at the beautiful scenery of trees, mountains, and rivers surrounding us. The sky was bluer than I could remember it ever being and the forests stretched on and on,, surrounding small villages only to be stopped by farmlands and large fields. <Wait a minute...small villages?? What happened to the cities and roads? When did I get so far away from civilization? Since when has there been such wild, beautiful places as this in Japan? I may be a bit more lost than I previously though..> "Where are we?" I asked in a near panic.
"On the outskirts of my domain, the Western Lands," the man said as though it were obvious. "Surely even an ignorant human would know that," he sneered.
"Sorry," I mumbled. "When I fell asleep, I don't think I was here. Wherever here is."
I was sure I had said that too softly for him to hear, but he said, "What do you mean you weren't here? Were you kidnapped or stolen from where you were?"
Still taking in the scenery I shook my head. "I was just hiking and it got too late to continue so I had to stop for the night. When I woke it was to that boy," I thought for a moment, "His name was Inuyasha, right?"
The man still holding me to him as we flew above the breathtaking wilderness nodded and said, "I don't know why you would bother to remember the name of a pathetic hanyou like him. My half brother he may be, but he does not hold power like I, Sesshoumaru, do."
I looked up at him surprised. "You're a demon lord? That's...fitting." He must not have known of anything to say to that because he said nothing, so I did the only other thing to and admired the masterpieces that rushed by. Suddenly a castle came into view. It seemed so out of place in Japan. There were stone walls surrounding the main building and several smaller, almost native looking buildings. In front of the compound was a large field filled with flowers that the front gates of the fortress opened to. A small creek ran through the meadow and a forest was positioned around the castle with its field.
Inside of the fortress walls were visible several gardens, including one in front of the largest construct with a small pond. Outside of the castle walls in the flower field was a young girl playing, picking flowers, and chasing butterflies."
I was so entranced by it all that I could only manage to sigh, "so beautiful," in awe. Only in fantasies had I ever seen anything even close to this, so serene and picturesque, as though it did not belong here but in a heaven of some sort.
"This is my home," Sesshoumaru answered in some pride, one of the few emotions I had heard in his voice.
As if to prove that point the little girl looked up from her flowers and smiled happily. "Sesshoumaru-sama! You're home!" She ran to where Sesshoumaru was setting me on my feet. "Who is she?" the girl asked, her curiosity bubbling over.
He seemed to think of a moment before saying, "She is a guest. While she is here she will help Jaken watch you."
"So she isn't Rin's new okaa-san..." the girl said sadly, but then brightened. "I am Rin! What's your name?" the little girl chirped.
"My name is Lena, it's nice to meet you Rin," I said smiling gently. Why does a demon lord have a young girl at his castle? A human girl at that. And who is Jaken?
Just then the last question was answered when an ugly toad-like thing ran to Sesshoumaru, but stopped short at his glare. He had a beak like mouth, big buggy eyes, was shorter than Rin, and had a staff with two heads on it. His green skin turned nearly purple in embarrassment when Sesshoumaru growled, "I left you to take care of Rin. So why is it that when I return it's to find Rin alone, and outside of the castle walls?"
"B-But my Lord!, I only left fro one moment to check on something! I could still see her from where I was," the toad groveled before the not so obviously upset demon lord.
Before Jaken could stutter any more excuses Rin held out some flower to him. "Rin picked flowers for Jaken-sama," she said proudly.
"I do not want some dead weeds, you disgusting human," Jaken sneered. Rin stuck her tongue out at the little green servant and Jaken sputtered, "You-you little brat! Sesshoumaru-sama, do you see the human child's insolence to poor old Jaken? It is-"
"Only right," Sesshoumaru cut in, finishing the upset toad's sentence in a bored tone. "An insult for an insult. Now, Jaken, take Rin to the bath house so she can prepare for dinner while I discuss the arrangements with my guest."
"Yes, my Lord," Jaken mumbled and began walking away, not bothering to check if Rin was following him, which she was.
Sesshoumaru turned his piercing gaze on me and said, "We need ti discuss some things if you are to stay with me." At my nod he continued, " I want to know where you are from, what your past was like, and I would like to see your physical abilities. While I know you are but a weak human, you could pose a threat to Rin."
I huffed indignantly and protested, "You can't really think that I would hurt a sweet, innocent child? Why would I ever do that? What could I possibly get from hurting her?"
"Yes, what indeed," Sesshoumaru murmured. "Before we begin, you should also prepare yourself for dinner. I will find more suitable attire," he added, looking pointedly at my shirt and jeans.
I glared at him but decided to let him win this time, a bath did sound nice. As soon as I nodded he started walking, leading me into his home.
