Chapter 10
Regretful reunion
Four years passed, Tsuyara never saw Sesshoumaru, nor ran into Inuyasha and his friends. But she thought of the dog lord every day. She missed being in his arms, missed how safe he made her feel.
“Aah.” Tsuyara smiled. She found another piece of Sesshoumarus sword. If she was correct there was only the hilt left to find.
As she stood an odd but vaguely familiar sent came to her. She looked around, in front of her stood a Youkai woman. Her maroon eyes stared at Tsuyara as she pulled a feather from her hair.
“Who are you?” Tsuyara asked carefully, that sent of hers registered as a bad one.
“You won't need to know who I am. You'll be dead soon anyways.” The Youkai replied.
Tsuyara growled, flashing her claws and bearing her fangs. Even though it parted her from Sesshoumaru, Tsuyara was able to grasp what ever it was that broke the sword. It was some king of energy, and it was damn useful. Not long after she parted from her protector, a tora Youkai came onto her, when she pushed him away the blue light cut him clean in half. With a little practice she found she could control it to slice anything, burn anything from the inside out, even make things explode. Tsuyara smiled as the blue light twisted faintly between her fingers.
Her enemy drew a sword; a menacing glow swam around it. She laughed as she pointed it at Tsuyara.
“Ready to die?”
~
Inuyasha growled as his brother stood there in front of him, his old aura back. The absence of Tsuyara disturbed him and his companions.
“What did you do to her?” he yelled.
“To who?” Sesshoumaru asked coldly.
“Tsuyara, you dumb-ass, Why isn't she with you!?”
“She's no longer a part of my life, half-breed.”
Inuyasha roared as he struck at Sesshoumaru with his sword, the dog lord dodged effortlessly.
~
“Dance of dragons!” the Kaze-Youkai yelled as she waved her fan and whirlwinds raced towards Tsuyara. Her new attack wasn't meant for this, the wind caught her legs, causing her to fall.
Tsuyara growled; a desperate thought reached her. If she where killed now, then Sesshoumaru would continue to hate her for the rest of time. Quickly she jumped up and raced around the Youkai. Sesshoumaru couldn't protect her from this; she had to protect her self.
What she didn't know, was that another battle was playing out not far from where she was now…
~
Sesshoumaru struck Inuyasha in the chest with his poison claws. The Hanyou cringed, stepping back to avoid another blow.
“Damnit…” Inuyasha cursed. “If you killed Tsuyara you'll be in a world of hurt!”
“As if you could hurt me, why do you care about her?”
“Because I know what its like to be half Youkai!” Inuyasha yelled. “Didn't you like her?”
“Like her?”
~
Tsuyara fell again, this time the wind Youkai kept her from rising. She stood over Tsuyara, the sinister sword pointed at her throat. In a rush she stood up to get away… feeling the blade cut into her… desperately, without realizing it, she called for him
~
“Sesshoumaru!”
The word echoed through the trees. Old emotions came back to the Inu-youkai, a sickening guilty feeling ripped through him like his own claws. He was so absorbed in this that he forgot where he was. Inuyasha barely grazed Sesshoumarus side before he jumped away.
The sound of her voice sickened him, something was wrong and he couldn't ignore it. Without a word he raced towards the direction of her yell, Leaving all those around him behind to wonder.
“HEY!” Inuyasha yelled. That brother of his wouldn't run away from him now. Inuyasha didn't hear Tsuyara's plea… he didn't know what Sesshoumaru knew. He ran after Sesshoumaru, Tetseiga in his hand.
~
Sesshoumaru kept running till her sent reached him, another sent was mingled with hers. Kagura, the wind Youkai that served Naraku, he growled. What was she doing here? Then it hit him, that day when Tsuyara broke his sword, there was a lot of wind, it was unnatural… it was her.
There would be a killing today.
Soon he saw them…horrified. Kagura stood in front of Tsuyara with a sword pierced in her chest, an acid green poison flowed around its blade, in and out of Tsuyara's wound. Kagura saw him, in a quick movement; she pulled the sword away and flew off in one of her feathers.
Before Tsuyara fell to the ground the dog lord caught her. her eyes were closed, and her breath gone… he felt no life.
“Come back here you cowered!” he heard Inuyasha yell “come face m…”
Inuyasha stopped, he smelled it now. Tsuyara's blood was deluded with some kind of poison… not Sesshoumarus but something else. A faint whimpering cry reached his ears as his and Sesshoumarus companions caught up. All of them fell silent when they saw them.
The cry had come from Sesshoumaru, Inuyasha realized… his half-brother was bent over Tsuyara's body, mumbling quietly `I'm sorry' slowly, carefully Inuyasha approached Sesshoumaru.
“Sess…” he tried
“Get away from me!” Sesshoumaru yelled, his usually level voice broken and forced.
“Cant he use Tensiega to bring her back to life?” Shipou asked quietly.
“It's broken.” Jaken mumbled, his head bowed “The snake Youkai broke it somehow”
“What?”
Sesshoumaru stood up, holding Tsuyara's limp body in his arms. His eyes were shadowed by his silver bangs, no emotion could be read but a tear glistened on one striped check.
Inuyasha stepped closer offering a hand to Sesshoumaru. He growled at him, red eyes shone angrily.
“Let me help you.” Inuyasha found himself saying.
“I don't need your help… I can bury her myself.” Sesshoumaru mumbled.
“Your sword can be fixed!” Inuyasha yelled hastily. “Mine was when it broke.”
“How do you know if we have each piece? It broke in more then two.” Sesshoumaru roared. “When it broke Kagura scattered them in the wind. I sent Tsuyara to find them… there's no way…”
“Check.” Inuyasha growled.
Sesshoumaru looked through a bag that Tsuyara had tied around her waist… his heart leapt; she had each piece… then his heart sunk again. She had each piece except for the one he kept from her. The hilt was in its sheath, the broken blades quivered as if they knew the sorrow Sesshoumaru felt. He fell to his knees, roaring out in guilt.
“Sesshoumaru let us help.” Kagome said as she came up to him. He didn't want to say anything for fear that he couldn't. Tears threatened to fall, his Youkai refused to let that happen.
He nodded.
