InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ August and Everything After ❯ And Away We Go ( Chapter 3 )
Wow! Sorry it's been so long folks! I was trapped in a cave with crazy animals and no computer! Naw, just kidding I was on vacation w/ the family, but really, what's the difference?
Here's the newest update in this thrilling saga. Hope you enjoy!
"Lord! Surely you jest! A demon? How can a demon be of any help?!" Kagome was shocked! God wanted her to meet a demon at the bridge in an hour and accept its help? She was incredulous, to put it mildly.
"There is another element to the quest you so readily volunteered for. Kikyo has met a demon on Earth. He has set his mind to retrieving the Orranis and in her hatred towards me; Kikyo has agreed to aid him." Kagome gasped. All the Angels knew the terrifying power of the Orranis.
"Does the demon plan to give the Orranis to the Devil?" she whispered. God shook his head.
"That hardly seems practical. The Orranis destroys all thing related to religion, that includes the Devil. As it stands, the only way the demon can be recaptured, is by another demon."
"But why does the demon want this Orranis? If he uses it he'll be destroyed as well."
"This demon is a very strange one. He is something called a Free Magic Spirit. He has no real ties to either the Devil or myself. When the Orranis is set to its task, it will destroy any opposition the Free Magic Spirits had in their attempt to wreck havoc on Earth. Defenseless, the Earth shall be reduced to a playground for evil, its inhabitants, merely toys." Kagome sighed, realizing the direness of the situation. This wasn't just Heaven and Hell at risk, it was Earth as well. The people that so willingly put their trust in God would be destroyed by one stupid demon that had a world domination complex. Suddenly she was very angry. The Devil was in this to save his own scaly backside, but God was working for the preservation of the Earth and Kagome was going to help.
"Sir, I continue to accept this mission. Nothing could sway me from this task."
God smiled sadly, "I knew you'd say that. Well then, off you go, can't keep the son of the Devil waiting, can we?" Kagome's winds took hold of her and floated her towards the pearl gates.
Kagome fish-mouthed for a second. "His son?" she managed to squeak out. But before she could say anything more, she was through the gateway and standing on Heaven's side of the bridge.
In all the celestial bodies, there were three bridges. One from Heaven to Earth, and one from Hell to Earth and one from Heaven to Hell, where she currently stood, brain still trying to process this new information.
As she puzzled over this new conundrum, a figure began to materialize on the other side. It began to walk towards her and she was suddenly gripped by the icy hand of fear. Was this the son of the Devil? If so, how could she trust him? He could turn around and kill her at any second. And if it wasn't the demon she was looking for? What then? She would be at the mercy of its evil powers. Wait…stop. She was the Guardian Angel of the Winds. She was more powerful than any stupid underling of Satan. Bracing herself, she prepared to face her doom.
The figure came closer and closer, but the odd thing was, it seemed to shrink as it approached. Kagome took a deep breath, readied her energies and waited for the horrible, monstrous, fire-breathing…frog? A little green toad waddled up to her. He was carrying a staff of sorts and only came up to her knees. As soon as she got over her shock, she had to stifle a laugh. "Are you…chuckle…Inu…giggle…Yash… helpless laughter...aaaaaaaahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!! The toad looked at her strangely. Who was this crack head angel anyway?
"I am Jaken, loyal servant to the royal brothers Inu Yasha and Sesshoumaru. Inu Yasha will be along in a minute. I am here to brief you on your mission." `Well,' thought Kagome, `he sounds like something out of a Die Hard movie. This toad will self destruct in 5…4…3…2.' She reached a hand up to hide her grin. Jaken just stared.
"Oh!" she had forgotten to introduce herself. "I'm Kagome, Guardian Angel of the Winds." Jaken had a look on his face that suggested he would rather be sticking a lighted firecracker down his throat than standing here with her.
They stood in uncomfortable silence for a few minutes. Finally another figure began to appear on the other side of the bridge. At this point Kagome didn't care if it was some strange demon from the depths come to carry her away, as long as it got her away from her amphibious companion.
The figure solidly formed itself into a tall masculine shape. As the mists that separated Heaven and Hell began to dissipate, Kagome's eyes widened.

Inu Yasha didn't know what he had been expecting. A giggling little girl with a pink stuffed rabbit or something equally repulsive. What he saw almost had him shocked. A tall slim young woman stood at the end of the bridge. Her waist length black hair whipped around her head, creating a sort of dark halo. Her large blue eyes grew even larger when she saw him, rosebud mouth opening in amazement. Her nose was small and delicate and her skin was paler than the white underbellies of the calla lilies that grew so profusely on the bridges edge. The long white robes she wore only served to accent her glittering gold wings. In short, she was one of the most beautiful creatures he had ever seen. `But,' he reminded himself, `she is an Angel, the enemy. Well, maybe not in this case, but as soon as things go back to normal, that's the way it will be.'
The Angel regained her composure and offered a slender white hand.
"I am Kagome, Guardian Angel of the Winds. Pleased to make your acquaintance." Inu Yasha almost took her hand, but noticed Jaken standing there, shooting him disapproving looks.
"Indeed." Ignoring her hand, he folded his arms across his chest. "Inu Yasha, Prince of the Underworld."
`Well." She seemed at a loss for words. Heh, he often had that effect on people. Too caught up in his own smugness, he failed to notice the reason she wasn't speaking was because she was looking to Jaken for their orders.
"Ahem?" squeaked the annoyed toad demon. "Your mission is thus, you shall both descend to Earth. Upon arriving there, you shall retrieve the Orranis, delivering it to God at the completion of your task. You shall also destroy Naraku, imprison Kikyo in Purgatory and return to your proper dwellings, understood? There are a few beings on Earth that have agreed to help you. A prophet, she will be very useful, a cherub and a lesser demon. The last two will be released from Heaven and Hell in order to aid you in your journey. But be warned, they have limited powers so you must rely mostly on yourselves and each other if you expect to successfully complete your duty. A word of warning, the Orranis can take the form of anything. It can be a tree, a rock, a person, anything. She," he pointed almost accusingly at Kagome, "will be able to sense it. She can inform you," pointing to Inu Yasha, "of its whereabouts and you can retrieve it. Understood? Any questions?" The toad had turned a frightening shade of purple. He hadn't taken a breath through that whole thing.
Inu Yasha and Kagome just stared at him, stared at each other, then turning back to him, shook their heads simultaneously. "Alright then." The toad waved his staff around, said a few odd words and waved his arms. A swirling portal appeared a few feet off the ground. Inu Yasha took a deep breath and watched as Kagome did likewise. Glancing at each other, they stepped through.
