Awaken
Chapter 2
A Mother's Lie
The sun's rays shining down through the forest woke Kagome from her sleep. She opened her eyes and quickly sat up. Then she remembered what happened. She fell asleep in Inuyasha's lap. Her face was buried in Inuyasha's neck. She squirmed around in his lap trying to get the blood running in her legs.
Inuyasha woke up from all the squirming around. It was quite pleasurable, but knew it needed to stop, as much as he hated to. He placed one hand on Kagome's stomach and the other on her back to stop her from moving. "Don't." He said.
"Gomen, I didn't mean to wake you up." Kagome said completely oblivious to what she was doing to him.
He just barely met her and already he was getting hard. He knew it was because she was moving around in his lap but still! "It's alright." Inuyasha said not wanting her to know what she was doing to him. "Does your leg feel better?"
"Hai." Kagome said.
Inuyasha stood up with Kagome in his arms. "Let's try finding your house." He said.
"Okay." Kagome said.
"Can you stand long enough to get on my back?" Inuyasha asked.
"I think so." Inuyasha set her down on the ground gently, letting her hold onto him for support. Once she was stable he bent down so she could climb on. He put his hands under her knees and jumped up onto a branch of a tree.
Kagome buried her face into his neck, not expecting him to jump so high let alone be able to. Inuyasha reached the top of the trees and looked around. "Is that your village?" He asked.
Kagome hesitantly opened her eyes to look at where he was pointing. "Hai, my house is the one closest to the forest." She said.
Inuyasha nodded and jumped down to the forest floor. From there he headed towards her village. He couldn't help feeling like this had happened before, him carrying Kagome. But how? He just met her last night.
After running for a while they finally reached the edge of the forest. Inuyasha didn't move any further for a while. "Inuyasha are you alright?" Kagome asked.
"I'm fine. I don't know if I want to talk to your mom though."
"Why not?"
"She might think I kidnapped you or something."
"Okaa-san is understanding. Besides, I can't walk there on my own." Kagome said.
"Fine, I'll go." Inuyasha sighed. She was right. She couldn't make it there on her own. The bites were too deep. She'd probably have to stay off her feet for another day or two.
Walking, they eventually made it to her house. "Kagome, I've been so worried about you!" Her mother called out. "Hey, who are you, and what have you done with my daughter?"
"It's okay Okaa-san. Inuyasha saved me." Kagome said.
"Oh. Gomen nasai. I didn't mean to jump to conclusions." Her mother apologized.
"It's alright. I wouldn't trust some stranger with my daughter either." Inuyasha said.
"Come in, and tell me what happened."
~~~~~~~~~
Kagome and Inuyasha both explained what had happened. Kagome also told her mother about her dreams. "Okaa-san, what happened before I woke up from the accident? I need to know." Kagome asked.
Her mother sighed and sadness replaced her usual smile. "The day you woke up Otou-san and I found you lying on the ground at the edge of the forest. You were covered in blood and passed out. I don't really know what happened to you. You woke up a couple hours after I treated your wounds. You were hysterical. You kept crying out someone's name, but I couldn't understand you. You kept yelling that someone was after you and your friend. That they wouldn't stop until you were dead. You were clutching a rosary in your hand. You held it close to your heart and kept crying out that you lost your love. I thought you were hallucinating. You were only ten and panicking about everything." Her mother explained.
"What happened after that?" Kagome asked.
"You finally passed out from exhaustion. You must've suppressed your memories because you couldn't remember anything after you woke again. I didn't want to see you like that again so I told you that you were my daughter and a horrible accident happened, and that's why you lost your memory."
Kagome sat silently, not knowing what to say. She couldn't remember anything her mother had just told her. She couldn't believe she hid it for so long. The mother she thought was hers for so long wasn't even her real mother. So then what of her past? Who was she really? Was Kagome really her name?
"I'm sorry Kagome. I just couldn't bear to see someone so young be in such pain." Her mother cried. "Please forgive me."
"I...I need some time to think." Kagome said.
"Alright." Her mother said. She knew it would take time for her to forgive her.
"Do you want me to take you somewhere?" Inuyasha asked. He could tell she didn't want to be there, but her leg wouldn't allow her to move anywhere on her own.
"Can you please?" Kagome asked.
Inuyasha picked her up and walked outside. He waited until they were out of hearing range to ask her where she wanted to go. "Anywhere, just far from here." She said.
Sniffing around for somewhere secluded or unoccupied, he smelled a lake nearby with no one around. He walked to the lake with her in his arms. He could smell the tears even though she wasn't crying.
Upon reaching the lake, Inuyasha set Kagome down on the grass. He turned to leave but stopped when he felt a tug on his pants. "Don't go. I don't want to be alone." Kagome whispered.
Inuyasha turned around and sat down next to her. He didn't know what to say. What do you say to someone who just figured out that the life they lived was a lie? He barely even knew the girl, so something he thought was comforting could be offensive to her and set her off.
The smell of tears interrupted his thinking. "Kagome." He said. Suddenly he was pushed down on his back with Kagome in his arms. He wrapped his arms around her, offering whatever comfort he could.
~~~~~~~~~
Kagome eventually fell asleep, tears still streaking her cheeks. She couldn't handle that much at once and it exhausted her. Not to mention what had happened to her last night as well. Inuyasha laid there on the ground with Kagome lying on top of him. He hadn't moved since she knocked him to the ground.
For a couple hours Kagome had been asleep. She was finally showing signs of waking up. Moaning, Kagome moved her leg from the outside of Inuyasha's leg to the inside. Inuyasha stiffened and tried moving his leg to move hers further away. In doing so she woke up.
Slowly opening her eyes, she realized where she was. She sat up quickly and sat down next to him. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to jump on you and then fall asleep." Kagome said as she turned her back to him.
"It doesn't bother me." Inuyasha said. He turned her around to face him and noticed her blush. "Let me check your leg."
Kagome straightened her legs out and watched as Inuyasha unwrap her bandage. Two deep fang and some claw marks covered her leg above her ankle. Inuyasha dipped the part of the cloth without blood in the river and washed away the dried blood.
"Why do you go to such lengths to take care of me?" Kagome asked. "Is it because of that voice from last night?"
"No, I would've taken care of you anyway." Inuyasha said. "I don't know why. I just feel obligated to help you. Like I'm supposed to protect and help you."
"I don't mean to be such a burden." Kagome said.
"Your not a burden." Inuyasha said. He ripped a piece of his inner haori to bandage her leg with. "You should probably stay off of it for another day or so."
"How inconvenient." Kagome said dryly.
"I'll help you around." Inuyasha said.
"You don't have to. You've already done so much." Kagome said.
"I want to." Inuyasha sighed. She just wouldn't listen. "Are you alright now?"
"I think so. I just wish I knew what happened."
"Sometimes its better not to know. If you can't remember, it's probably because you didn't want to." Inuyasha said.
"I can't help but think there was another reason I forgot..." Kagome trailed off as her eyes went blank.
"Kagome. Kagome!" Inuyasha called out. He waved a hand in front of her face and didn't get a reaction.
"Awaken your memories, travel to find your past." Kagome said in the same voice as last night.
"What do you mean? Who are you?" Inuyasha shouted.
"Awaken, and reveal your true pasts. You must travel and protect each other. Without one another, you're both lost and alone. Together, you'll find your answers. Travel and find your past."
"Travel where?"
"To where you first met. You will find your answers there."
"What do you mean? Who are you?" Inuyasha yelled.
"What are you talking about?"
"Huh?" Inuyasha asked, blinking.
"What are you talking about? You know who I am." Kagome said.
"But you were the other person."
"Other person? You mean I changed?" Kagome asked.
"You said to travel again. `Awaken and reveal your true pasts. You must travel and protect each other. Without one another you're both lost and alone. Together you'll find your answers. Travel and find your past.'" Inuyasha repeated.
"What does that mean? Travel and find our past? I don't understand." Kagome brought her knees to her chest and hugged them.
Inuyasha grabbed and embraced her. "We'll figure it out. We should listen to the voice and go to where we met."
"I don't remember how to get there. I just remember the large tree you were pinned to." Kagome buried her face into his neck.
"I remember how to get there." Inuyasha said.
"I should talk to Okaa-san first and let her know." Kagome said.
Inuyasha just picked her up and headed towards her home without a word.
