Chapter 7

Water

After breakfast they all thought they should head to the tajiya village. There weren't any other leads so they decided to go there. They said bye to Mushin and gathered their things before leaving.

"Are you sure your feeling well enough to walk?" Miroku asked.

"I'm fine. My leg doesn't hurt anymore and I don't have a headache from last night." Kagome reassured.

"Let me know the minute you feel pain." Inuyasha said.

"Hai, either Inuyasha or myself will carry you." Miroku offered.

"I'll carry you. Quit offering." Inuyasha growled.

"Hai, hai." Miroku nodded.

"Thanks for offering but I'm fine." Kagome smiled.

Later that night they made camp. They found a spot near a hot spring and built a fire. After eating Kagome stood up. "I'm going to the hot springs for a while." She said.

"Don't you think it's a little late for that?" Inuyasha asked.

"As long as I can see I'll be fine. I won't be gone for long." Kagome said.

"Then maybe I should go with you to make sure nothing happens." Miroku began to stand up.

Inuyasha growled and hit him. As soon as Miroku hit the ground he apologized. "I'll be fine. If something happens you'll hear me right?" Kagome asked.

"Be quick." Inuyasha said.

"Hai." Kagome smiled and walked to the hot springs.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" Inuyasha growled.

"What do you mean?" Miroku asked.

"That going to the springs with her bullshit."

"Ah well I thought I'd encourage you with your relationship with her."

"We don't have a relationship." Inuyasha said.

"You haven't told her about the mark?" Miroku asked. "You should tell her as soon as you get the chance. Have you even talked to her about this new forming relationship?"

"I didn't get the chance. You interrupted last time." Inuyasha said angrily.

"My apologies. I didn't know." Miroku said.

Kagome slipped out of her clothes and slowly walked into the water. She rested her arms on the boulder and let the warmth of the water relax her muscles. Just as she was about to close her eyes she felt a tug on her foot.

Suddenly she was dragged underwater. She fought to stay above the surface but could barely move. Whatever had a hold of her leg was strong. Finally able to take a breath she screamed out for Inuyasha.

Inuyasha was staring into the fire trying to think of how to tell Kagome that she was marked as his mate when he heard her scream. He stood and ran towards the hot spring. "What's wrong?" Miroku shouted out.

He was gone before Miroku could finish his sentence. He didn't even pay attention to him. All he was focused on was getting to Kagome. Once he got to the hot spring he couldn't find her anywhere. She couldn't have gotten far because her clothes were still near the water.

He could faintly hear bubbles from the water. He then saw Kagome's hand above the water before being jerked back down. Inuyasha jumped into the water without a second thought.

Once he was underwater he noticed something was wrapped around her leg. A snake youkai had a hold of her. He quickly slashed at it, grabbed Kagome, and swam to the surface. He sat down and helped Kagome as she spat out water.

"Inuyasha." Kagome smiled before passing out.

Miroku walked into the hot spring area and smiled. "If you wanted to be alone with Kagome you should've said something before rushing out like you did." He said lecherously.

"Shut up bouzo. She was being drowned." Inuyasha explained. Then he realized that Miroku was staring at her. He turned around and covered her with his body. "Fucking pervert!"

"Gomen, I'll leave then. I'd bring her near the fire as soon as she was dressed though. Just so she doesn't catch a cold or anything." Miroku said as he walked away.

Inuyasha just growled. Miroku would be on thin ice for a while because he looked at his mate. Even though she didn't know it yet. As hard as it was Inuyasha tried dressing Kagome in her clothes. The best he could do was tie it closed so that it didn't show anything.

Afterwards he walked back to camp. Miroku was right, she needed to be near the fire or she would get sick. He sat down across from Miroku. "Don't worry I'm sure she'll be fine." Miroku reassured.

"Shut up I didn't even say anything." Inuyasha said.

"You don't have to. I know you're worried about her. You still haven't told her have you?" Miroku asked.

"Why don't you shut up and go to sleep?" Inuyasha growled.

"Fine, I'll leave you alone for now." Miroku said. He set up his futon and laid down to sleep.

Inuyasha sat in front of the fire until both he and Kagome were dry. After he was sure she was warmed up he jumped on the nearest branch. He leaned against the trunk of the tree and held Kagome in his lap. He hoped she would wake soon.

He was worried about her. She almost drowned and he almost didn't make it in time to save her. She wouldn't be going to any hot springs alone again. If she wanted to bathe then she could wait until they got to an inn.

Kagome jerked awake and was pulled against something. She turned her head to look and saw Inuyasha. "Inuyasha." She said.

"You're okay." He said.

"Hai, arigato for saving me." Kagome smiled.

"You're feeling okay? Are you warm enough?" Inuyasha asked.

"I'm fine. Just a little tired." She yawned.

"Then go to sleep."

"Inuyasha can we talk about what happened?" Kagome asked shyly.

Inuyasha sighed. He finally got the opportunity to talk to Kagome but he didn't know what to say. Should he tell her about the mark? "I let my instincts act on their own. I didn't mean to move so quickly. We can take things slowly if you want."

Kagome just blushed and nodded. Inuyasha smiled and caught her lips in a gentle kiss. "Go to sleep." He said.

Once again Kagome nodded and laid her head on his chest.

A couple days later they reached the Tajiya village. Before entering they tried to decide on what to do. "If we go in they'll try to attack Inuyasha." Kagome said.

"Maybe Inuyasha could stay here while we go look around." Miroku said.

"Go ahead." Inuyasha said. "I'll just get close enough to stay in a tree so I can hear if something happens."

"I'll stay with you then. Miroku can go check the village out." Kagome said.

"And leave him there to follow some women around and grope them? It would be worse to leave him alone than for me to come." Inuyasha sighed.

"True. Well if you don't mind." Kagome said.

"I'll be fine." Inuyasha said. "Just be careful and keep an eye on Miroku."

"Hai." Kagome said.

"Its offensive that you can't trust me." Miroku said.

"Shut up and go." Inuyasha said.

"Come on Miroku let's go." Kagome tugged on his arm and headed for the entrance of the village.

As soon as they walked into the village all eyes were on them. They both looked for any signs of the images they had seen earlier. There were huts all over the sides of the entrance. Training grounds all over.

The male villagers all had tajiya outfits on. They were skintight black suits with colored armor. The women were helping but none of them were wearing the tajiya outfits. One of the villagers approached Kagome and Miroku.

"Can I help you?" He asked.

"Well, it's hard to explain but we're actually just looking around." Miroku said.

"Are you interested in becoming a tajiya slayer?" The villager asked. "I'm sorry to say we aren't accepting those who aren't family members of one of the slayers."

"No, you misunderstand me." Miroku waved his hand. "You see I'm a traveling monk and I'm here to see if you need any of my services."

"I don't think we're in need of your help." The villager said.

"Well do you mi-?" Miroku was cut off when someone yelled.

"Watch out!"

Kagome looked towards where the voice was coming from and noticed a sword coming straight towards her. Her eyes widened and she screamed.

Inuyasha had been watching what was going on while sitting in a tree. Before he heard the yell he saw the sword being flung towards Kagome. Some villagers were training and the sword was thrown the wrong way.

He ran towards Kagome as fast as he could. He jumped down from the tree, over the village wall, and down onto the ground. He grabbed Kagome and moved out of the way fast enough for the sword to miss her but graze his arm.

"Inuyasha?" Kagome said shakily.

"Are you okay?" Inuyasha asked her. She nodded into his chest. Inuyasha turned to the villagers. "Watch what your doing! You almost hit her!"

Everyone gasped as they noticed Inuyasha's ears. "Youkai!" One of the villagers shouted.

"No!" Kagome shouted and stood in front of Inuyasha. "He's not a bad person. He just saved me!"

The villagers stayed in a defensive stance but stopped advancing on them. "How can we trust you?" A villager asked.

"Would he have tried to save me if he wasn't trustworthy?" Kagome asked.

"I too think he is trustworthy and I'm a monk." Miroku said.

Kagome gasped as she saw a woman in a tajiya outfit come out carrying a large boomerang like the one in the images she saw. Both Inuyasha and Miroku saw the same boomerang and stared at the girl holding it.
