Chapter 25
Murder
----------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
You could've said a word but you turned away
Why do you always act such a passive way?
Now don't you ever think that I would suck up to you
But I still believe in you
When I was given freedom, oh all I did was flee.
When I turned back there was nothing to see
You closed your doors before I could open mine
Now I know, now I see it was a waste of time
The days go by you never seem to learn to fly
And all you do is find the reasons why
And all I wished for was for you to face your dreams
I still believe that you can fly
When I was given passion, oh I tried to cool it down.
Till I found out, I couldn't say the words I wanted to say
You are the sun to lighten up my shadows, saved me
And never let it go
There's no way I can talk to who you were ten days ago
Cuz you are who you are now
When I was facing reality I lived in fantasy,
Till I put it aside in the space between you and me
If only I could reach the voice in the water
Take me there, it's gonna be much better
As days go by we all need to learn to fly
If only you didn't care about the reason why
And all I wished for was for you to meet my dreams
I still believe that we can fly
I'm just waiting for you to stand up to it
What are you waiting for?

The group left Sango's village earlier than expected no thanks to Miroku's busy hands. He decided to try his luck on some of the village women who happened to be married. The men grew angry and looked for Miroku. Sango assured the village husbands that Miroku wouldn't touch another girl and they would leave first thing in the morning.
They were almost to Kagome's village. It wasn't as far as everyone thought. They got sidetracked so often that everything seemed farther than it was. Kirara's flight ability also helped out a lot. She carried Sango and Miroku while Inuyasha had Kagome and Shippo on his back.
Kagome jumped in joy when her village came into view. As soon as her hut was in view she ran towards it.
“Okaa-san, Souta! I'm back!” She said happily. There was no answer, which was unusual because it was late in the evening. They were usually eating dinner by now. They should've heard her and ran out by now.
She walked inside the hut and screamed. Both her Okaa-san and brother were on the floor covered in blood. She dropped to her knees. As soon as she hit the floor a bright white light flashed in front of her.
*********Memory*********
Something was behind her. Kagome was running for her life. She didn't even know where she was, nothing looked familiar. She was told to run and had no choice but to obey the command. She didn't get very far before a blast hit the ground directly behind her. The force of the blow threw her forward several feet. She bumped her head and blacked out.
----
Distantly she heard talking. It hurt her head. Suddenly she woke up remembering what happened. She sat up quickly and saw two people in front of her. “Inuyasha!” She cried out. “He needs help! Someone is after my friends and I!”
“What? Who's after you?” The lady asked.
“I don't know who's after me! He's going to get my friends!” Kagome yelled.
“Calm down.” The lady said. “I can't understand you that well.”
“Inu...yasha...” Kagome said one last time before passing out.
*********
Kagome fell to the floor after the memory came back. It was all too much for her to handle at once.
Inuyasha heard the scream and quickly ran to the hut. He found Kagome on the floor, passed out. He also saw her mother and brother on the floor. The scent of death was already there.
He leaned down and picked Kagome up and then walked outside. Miroku, Sango, and Shippo caught up to him. “What happened?” Miroku asked.
“She passed out. Her family was murdered.” Inuyasha said. He walked away with Kagome in his arms. He headed to the river to see if he could get her to wake up.
Once he got to the river he gently splashed her face to wake her up. Kagome sat up quickly and looked around. She was no longer in the hut, was it all a dream? She turned towards Inuyasha and saw the sad look on his face, he had just told her what she needed to know.
She threw her arms around him and cried. Inuyasha wrapped his arms around her and rubbed her back. Hopefully she would calm down soon. She lost her family along with all the chaos that's been happening now.
---------
A couple hours later Kagome calmed down. Now she was just sniffling. Her eyes were bloodshot and she was tired. She stood up, she couldn't leave the only family she had lying in the hut like they were.
“Gomen Inuyasha.” She said as she stood up. “I need to go bury my family.”
Inuyasha nodded and followed her back to the hut. Miroku, Sango, Shippo, and Kirara were sitting outside of it, waiting. “Where were you guys?” Shippo asked.
“At the river.” Inuyasha said.
“Don't worry about your family.” Miroku said. “We already buried them and I prayed for them. Their graves are near the forest.”
“Arigato” Kagome said. She began to head for the forest.
Shippo was going to go after her but Inuyasha grabbed his tail gently to stop him. “Don't.” He said. “Leave her be for a while.”
“Will she be alright by herself?” Sango asked.
“She'll be fine. I'll check on her in a while.” Inuyasha said.
“It's getting dark, I'll gather some firewood.” Miroku said.
“Wait, Houshi-sama. I'll go with you.” Sango said.
“I'll go to! I want to be helpful!” Shippo said and jumped on Miroku's shoulder.
Inuyasha sat down near the hut and watched as they left. He wondered what Kagome would do now. Would she quit trying to find out what happened in her past? Would she leave him?
He stood quickly. He couldn't let her leave him. She was all he had since he woke up, before he found his brother. Her leaving would be as if a part of him was leaving. He did mark her as his mate too. Quickly, Inuyasha ran to where Kagome was.
Kagome was sitting on the ground in front of the graves with tears in her eyes. She wiped them away before standing up. She gasped when she saw Inuyasha behind her. She didn't notice him at all.
“Inuyasha.” She said.
“Kagome.” Inuyasha said. “What are you going to do now? Are you going to stay with us?”
“Hai, Okaa-san wouldn't want me to be unhappy or anything. I have to move on.” Kagome said as another tear fell from her eye. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't stop crying.
“Take your time.” Inuyasha said. He walked closer to her and wrapped his arms around her.
“I'm all alone now.” Kagome said. “You, Miroku, and Sango all have family. I have no one left.”
“You have me. You always will.” Inuyasha said. He lifted her chin and wiped the tears from her eyes. He leaned down and brushed his lips against hers, giving her a chance to back away if she wanted.
Instead of pulling away, Kagome took the comfort he was offering and pressed her lips more against his. She was glad that Inuyasha was there for her. She wouldn't know what to do if he wasn't.
As much as he'd like to continue to get lost in the kiss, they needed to get back. He slowly pulled away. It wasn't the best time or place to continue with the kiss. He grabbed her hand and led the way back to the hut.
Miroku, Sango, and Shippo already got back with firewood and had a fire started. “Ah your back. Did you do what you needed?” Miroku asked.
“Hai, arigato.” Kagome said. She sat down next to the fire with Inuyasha. “I saw a memory.”
“You did? None of us saw anything.” Sango said.
“It was of how I first met Okaa-san.” Kagome said. She turned to Inuyasha. “Remember Okaa-san told me I was hysterical and then suppressed my memories.”
Inuyasha nodded. “It was like she said. I kept calling out for them to help you but they couldn't understand me. I kept crying out that someone was after me but I didn't know who it was. I was knocked out from a blast when they found me.” Kagome explained.
“It was your memory. That's probably why we didn't see it.” Miroku said. “It seems when something happens if its similar to what happened when we were younger it triggers a memory.”
“That still makes it difficult to find out what exactly happened. If we had an enemy, chances are that their still out there. Nothing of what we've seen so far indicates that we defeated them.” Sango said. “Besides we were too young to take of something like that.”
“We have to be on guard at all times. We can't easily trust anyone who claims to remember us. Kouga had proof but there's that Naraku person who keeps going after Kagome.” Miroku said.
“I don't think he's who he says he is.” Inuyasha said.
“You can't assume he's lying just because you're jealous.” Miroku said. “Although I did get a bad feeling about him.”
“I'm not jealous. There's just something about him that's not trustworthy.” Inuyasha crossed his arms.
“He does seem creepy.” Sango said.
“I don't understand.” Kagome said. Everyone turned to look at her. “Who would go after my family? Do you think it's the enemy that was after us? Who would go after us when we're so young?”
“At this moment there are many unanswered questions. I think the best thing to do now is to get back to Sesshomaru-sama's castle to see if he found out any information about the woman named Kaede. She's our only lead right now.” Miroku said.
“We won't do anything until you feel up to it.” Inuyasha said to Kagome.
“I'm fine.” Kagome said. “I just want to find out who I am so I can get on with my life.”
“Don't push yourself Kagome.” Sango said.
“If it's alright with everyone I'd like to leave first thing tomorrow morning. I don't want to stay here...” Kagome trailed off.
Everyone nodded in agreement. “Well then I think we should get some dinner ready then.” Miroku said.
“I caught a rabbit!” Shippo called out. From behind him he showed it to everyone. He was anxious to tell everyone but had to wait for them to finish talking.
“Shippo! How'd you catch that?” Kagome asked in surprise.
“Inuyasha taught me. While we were in the woods gathering firewood I smelled it nearby and caught it!” Shippo said proudly.
“Great job Shippo!” Kagome praised him. She sat him on her lap and smiled at him.
He beamed with pride for his catch and because he put a smile on her face. It had been a while since he saw her smile. He didn't like it when his Okaa-san was sad. “Good job runt. I didn't think you'd catch anything so fast.” Inuyasha said.
“Arigato!” Shippo said happily. It was great that Inuyasha praised him. Usually he was mean to him.
Inuyasha took Shippo with him a couple minutes later to catch more food. One rabbit wasn't going to be enough. He was surprised that Shippo had even caught anything. He'd only given him one lesson and it was about tracking not actually catching anything. Still he was proud of Shippo for doing such a good job.

You are the girl with the smiles and gravity
and gravity gets things done
you're always up and you're always down
but you make it look so fun
And you want them to see
and you want them to know
but they never find the real you
you never once complained
but now twenty years are gone
and you're ready to explode
I will wait here, darlin'
to make sure you are okay
I will wait here, darlin'
for you
I am the one who can solve all your problems
a savior with only you to save
and that's why I'm here at least I tell myself that
the motivation becomes so blurred
And you want me to see
and you want me to know

you're buried just beneath the surface

Sorry this chapter took so long to update on. I've been busy and of course family and school problems. Those will probably never go away though. This chapter was sad but needed to be done. I have my reasons why but of course you won't know because you're not the writer. Hope you like it. Let me know what you think. Ja ne.
