Chapter 36

Attack

 

Kagome slowly opened her eyes and stretched. She hadn't meant to fall asleep but she was so comfortable. Inuyasha kept his arms around her the whole time before she fell asleep. She yawned and turned around to see brown eyes looking at her. She almost jumped off the bed until she remembered that it was Inuyasha's human night.

 

It would take her a good while to get used to him changing once a month. It wasn't bad. She wasn't lying when she said she didn't care which form he was in, although she did prefer his hanyou side since he had the cute little inu ears. It didn't matter. His personality wouldn't change. Well he was grumpier as a human but she couldn't tell if it was because he just found out or because he just hated to be human.

 

“Almost sunrise.” Inuyasha said.

 

“Is it? I was asleep for that long?” Kagome asked. “I didn't mean to fall asleep.”

 

“What does it matter? Not like anything happened.” Inuyasha said. He felt an odd tingly sensation run through his body and sat up.

 

The sun rose and shined on him. As the sun appeared on the top of his head his hair went from black to its natural silvery white, his human ears retracted and grew at the top of his head back to inu ears, then his eyes turned amber, his fangs and claws grew until they were at their normal size. He flexed his hands glad that the youkai blood now rushed through his veins once again.

 

Kagome sat in awe watching as his features turned from human to hanyou. She watched as his frustration of being weak turned into relief as his youkai blood returned. Without a word she reached her hand up and tweaked his ear, smiling as she did.

 

The moment was ruined as soon as a youkai busted through the window landing on the foot of the bed in front of them. Inuyasha quickly stood in front of Kagome. “What the fuck are you doing here?” He growled.

 

The youkai looked almost human. The only thing that was different was the pointy ears, claws, and his bright green eyes. “I'm after a girl named Kagome. I assume she's you. You smell like flowers which is what I was described.” The youkai said and licked his lips.

 

“It's none of your fucking business!” Inuyasha snapped. “Get out!”

 

“Not until my mission has been completed.” The youkai said. He jumped towards Kagome trying slash at her with his sharp claws.

 

Inuyasha jumped in front of her and blocked the youkai's attack by grabbing his hand. The youkai looked pleased at his action. He flipped over Inuyasha and grabbed his arm before jumping out of the window with him. They both fell to the ground and got onto their feet.

 

“Inuyasha!” Kagome shouted. She saw that he was alright and sighed in relief.

 

The youkai smirked and reached into his hakama. He pulled out what appeared to be a small black ball. He threw it at the window where Kagome was. She was able to jump out of the way but the ball hit the bottom of the windowsill and exploded. Kagome lost her balance and fell.

 

Inuyasha jumped in the air and caught her. He gracefully landed on the ground with her safely in his arms. Before he could see if she was all right the youkai jumped towards them, trying to slash at them with his claws. The only way to dodge the attack was to jump above him and run in the opposite direction of the castle.

 

Soon enough they were in the forest. The youkai stopped his attacks and smirked. Inuyasha set Kagome down on her feet and stood in front of her in a defensive stance. The youkai grinned malevolently before running towards Inuyasha once more. Inuyasha also ran towards him, both growling at each other.

 

They both collided and stood still in their positions. Thinking something bad had happened to Inuyasha, Kagome took one step closer. “Inuyasha?” She whispered uncertainly.

 

“My mission has been completed.” The youkai chuckled but then spit out blood.

 

“What are you talking about?” Inuyasha asked. He had won in their fight. His hand was currently in the youkai's stomach.

 

“My...mission was to... bring you out to...the forest...with the girl.” The youkai laughed. He coughed a few times before falling to the ground.

 

“What?” Inuyasha growled. He had fallen for the idiot's trap. He ran to Kagome but before he could get anywhere near her laughter could be heard. Suddenly what looked like a tree branch struck down to the ground in front of Inuyasha causing him to stop dead in his tracks and jump backwards in defense. “What the hell?”

 

Kagome stepped forward towards Inuyasha but was stopped when a hand grabbed her arm, jerking her backwards towards whoever grabbed her. She gasped in pain when the person twisted her arm behind her back, successfully grabbing both her hands in one of theirs.

 

“Naraku!” Inuyasha growled. He stepped closer to get Kagome.

 

“Ah, I wouldn't do that if I were you.” Naraku grinned. He twisted Kagome's arm making her scream in pain. He grabbed her chin roughly and twisted it so that she was facing him. “Wouldn't want to hurt her now would you?”

 

“You bastard!” Inuyasha yelled. “You set this up!”

 

“Well of course. How else was I going to get you to come out with Kagome?” Naraku chuckled. “I assure you I'm no fool.”

 

“What do you want?” Inuyasha asked. His instincts were telling him to grab his mate but if he did she would be hurt again. It took all of his control not to run to her.

 

“I want nothing more than what the miko is protecting, is what my original intentions were. After I've seen how she's matured I'm quite taken with her.” Naraku brought her face closer to his.

 

“She's my mate you bastard!”

 

“Doesn't matter. I can always remove the mark myself and leave my own.” Naraku licked her cheek. “It would be nice to have such a as her standing behind me.”

 

Inuyasha's growl grew louder. He saw a flash of red but ignored it. Now was not the time to take his focus off of his mate. She was in danger and needed him. “Let her go.” Inuyasha demanded.

 

“Your not in the position to make demands are you?” Naraku said as he twisted Kagome's arm once more. “Aren't her screams pleasing to hear?”

 

“You're a sick fuck.” Inuyasha growled in anger.

 

“I am no such thing. I merely do whatever it takes to get what I want. I do tire of this conversation. It's time to get rid of you.” Naraku smiled. He lifted his free hand from Kagome's cheek and it turned into what looked like a long tree branch. It struck Inuyasha in his shoulder, grazing him.

 

“Inuyasha!” Kagome shouted.

 

“Ah I wish I could've seen your face like this when I killed your family.” Naraku laughed. “Although now I get to watch you as I kill Inuyasha. I think this will be much more satisfying. He is your mate after all.”

 

“You did it? You killed...my family?” Kagome asked. Tears streaked down her face.

 

“Who else could it have been?” Naraku asked. He struck at Inuyasha again but this time knocked him back after hitting him in the stomach.

 

Kagome struggled to break free. Inuyasha was getting hurt. She needed to do something. Naraku's hold on her wasn't breaking at all. He just laughed as he continued to attack Inuyasha. She couldn't believe he was laughing. Kagome didn't know what to do. The man that killed her family and hurting her mate had a strong hold on her. What could she do? She screamed in frustration. A blue light slowly surrounded her.

 

Naraku stopped his attacks at Inuyasha. He looked at the girl in his arms. He saw the blue glow coming from her. Soon enough it started to burn. When the pain became unbearable he released his hold on her. He held his hand as it burned and smiled. “Well it seems I've underestimated you.” He said. By that time Kagome was already near Inuyasha. “We'll save this for another time. But be warned. I won't underestimate you again.”

 

Naraku then disappeared into a black cloud. “Inuyasha are you okay?” Kagome asked. Tears still stained her face as new ones fell from her eyes.

 

“I'm fine. Like that bastard could hurt me.” Inuyasha said. He grunted and stood, ignoring the pain. “Are you okay?”

 

“Hai, I'm fine.” Kagome said.

 

“You're a bad liar.” Inuyasha wiped the tears from her eyes. He picked her up bridal style. “Come on let's go back.”

 

“You don't have to carry me. Your hurt.” Kagome said.

 

“If I don't carry you then it will take longer to get back.” Inuyasha said. “I need to check your wounds.”

 

“I think it's your wounds that need to be bandaged.” Kagome said.

 

“Keh.” Inuyasha replied and headed towards the castle.

“What happened?” Sesshomaru asked. He was waiting by the castle door when they got back.

 

“I'll explain later. The window to my room is broken. We need another room to stay in for a while. Her wounds need to be looked at.” Inuyasha said.

 

Sesshomaru looked at them. Not a scratch was on Kagome. Aside from her puffy red eyes she looked fine. Inuyasha on the other hand, wasn't looking so well. He had cuts on his cheek. There was blood all over his clothes and in his hair. The scent of blood was heavy around him.

 

“I don't think she's the one that needs treated.” Sesshomaru said. “Follow me. I'll show you the other room you may use since yours needs repairs.”

 

“Thanks Sesshomaru.” Kagome smiled.

 

They followed him upstairs. In the same hallway as their room at the end is where Sesshomaru stopped. He opened the door to a large bedroom that looked identical to theirs. The only difference was that there was no balcony and the color of the room. Instead of red it was white.

 

“Do you mind sending up some bandages?” Kagome asked.

 

“I'll have Jaken bring you some.” Sesshomaru said. He began walking away. “I would like a full explanation when you're in better conditions.”

 

“Hai!” Kagome said and shut the door. She pulled Inuyasha towards the bed and sat down. He did the same. “Okay take off your haori so I can clean your wounds.”

 

“I'll be healed in a couple of hours so there's no point.” Inuyasha said.

 

“It doesn't matter. You still got hurt.” Kagome said. She refused to back down.

 

“Fine.” Inuyasha sighed. She was just as stubborn as he was sometimes.

 

Kagome walked into the bathroom and wet a cloth. She also grabbed a dry cloth as she left the bathroom. Someone knocked on the door and she answered it. “Thanks Jaken.” Kagome smiled.

 

“No problem Kagome-sama.” Jaken bowed and left.

 

She walked over to Inuyasha and cleaned the cuts. She didn't know the wounds were as deep as they were. The blood had already stopped. She cleaned whatever blood was left and wiped it dry with the other cloth. Then she carefully bandaged the wounds. “Done.” She said.

 

Inuyasha had watched her the whole time. She was so gentle and careful about not hurting him. Even if she did manage to cause him any pain it wouldn't have been much and she would never have to know. “I told you either way it wouldn't matter.” Inuyasha said. He grabbed her hands gently.

 

“What are you doing?” Kagome asked.

 

“You were hurt too.” Inuyasha said. He vaguely remembered that Naraku had admitted to killing her family. That and he had twisted her arms pretty badly. Her wrists had bruises on them. He grabbed the bandages and wrapped her wrists. “See you were hurt.”

 

“You were hurt worse.” Kagome said.

 

“You were hurt in another way too.” Inuyasha said.

 

Kagome lowered her head. “I'll be fine.” She said. Her eyes betrayed her and tears fell from them.

 

Inuyasha wiped away the tears and hugged her.
