Chapter 38
Something Off...
“Feels good. Seems like forever since we've gotten away from the guys.” Sango sighed.
“They hover around you like eagles.” Shippo laughed. He jumped into the springs, splashing both Sango and Kagome.
“Shippo calm down.” Kagome giggled.
“Since you and Inuyasha mated does that mean I'm supposed to call him Otou-san?” Shippo asked.
Kagome's jaw dropped at the suddenness of the question. “T-That's up to you and Inuyasha.” She stuttered.
Sango smiled. “It's funny to see you walking around with a blush on your face from something Inuyasha or Miroku said.”
“He doesn't seem embarrassed about anything.” Kagome blushed.
“It's natural with youkai.” Shippo said once he resurfaced. “Mama always said that finding a mate always made makes someone feel complete. Likes it's a destiny all on its own.”
“That's what it seems like.” Kagome sighed. “It's still a little much and I need to get used to it. I still don't know much about youkai ways. I barely know the human courting ways.”
“Weren't you ever courted?” Sango asked.
“There were a couple of villagers but it never seemed right when I first met them and turned them down at the beginning.” Kagome said as her eyebrows furrowed in confusion as she thought about it. “I still don't understand why.”
“Maybe since you knew him in the past and forgot you subconsciously knew something.” Sango said. “We still have lots of things we don't know yet.”
“True. I just wish it wasn't so complicated.” Kagome sighed in frustration. “It's bad enough that I don't know anything about my past or anyone's, I don't remember anyone from when I met them earlier, both of my families are gone, I'm mated, which isn't a bad thing, and worst of all we have an enemy that is after something I have and I have no idea what it is.”
“It is a lot to go through. I'm sure you have it worse than any of us, with you being the protector of something you barely know anything about, but we'll all help when we can, especially Inuyasha. He worries more than he shows.” Sango tried to comfort her.
“You're right. At least we've found each other again. It makes me less worried.” Kagome smiled. “I still can't help but wonder what exactly is the Shikon no Tama...”
“Maybe we should go see Kaede-sama and ask her about it. I mean we didn't exactly question her about it. If anything she can tell us where to find out more information.” Sango said. “All we know is that it's within you and that it's powerful.”
“I guess.” Kagome said.
“Let's get out and go find them.” Sango stood and stepped out of the spring. “The sooner we leave the better.”
“Hai.” Kagome said and got out of the spring as well. “Come on Shippo.”
-------------------
“I wonder where the guys are.” Sango said.
“There upstairs!” Shippo jumped out of Kagome's arms and onto the floor. He could smell them upstairs and hear them talking faintly. The girls followed him upstairs and in front of Kagome and Inuyasha's room, they were talking. “There they are!”
“Thanks Shippo.” Kagome smiled and opened her arms for him to jump in.
“What?” Inuyasha asked.
“That was a very long bath.” Miroku said. “I believe they've been talking...”
“Hai, we think that we should go talk to Kaede-sama.” Sango said.
“Kaede-sama?” Miroku asked. “For what?”
“Well she should know something more about the Shikon no Tama. The more information we have about it the better I'll feel.” Kagome said. “I don't like being left in the dark especially about stuff that is in me.”
“We can leave tomorrow.” Inuyasha said. He turned to Miroku and Sango. “You can come if you want but we're leaving at dawn with or without you.”
“Hai, hai, we'll be ready by then.” Miroku said. “I'm curious as to what information Kaede-sama has.”
“Nosy ass monk.” Inuyasha muttered. He grabbed Kagome's hand and pulled her into their room. She waved bye before Inuyasha slammed the door shut.
“Did you have to pull me away so quickly?” Kagome asked as she sat on the bed.
“Did you want the monk to go on about stupid crap?” Inuyasha asked.
“Ok...” Kagome let the subject drop. “Do we have to leave so early?”
“Yes.” Inuyasha answered. He laid down on the bed and put a hand on her waist, pulling her back to lay down with him. Shippo hung on tightly and landed between them. “Oi runt.”
“Huh?” Shippo asked afraid he was going to kick him out.
“Watch your claws.” Inuyasha said.
Shippo moved his hand from Kagome. When he fell his claws dug into her kimono, making tiny rips in the fabric. “Gomen.” He apologized. He smiled happily that he was allowed to stay. Within minutes he fell asleep.
“Since when are you so nice to Shippo?” Kagome asked.
“I'm your mate and he's an annoying little runt. It's not like I can get rid of him so easily.” Inuyasha sighed.
Kagome lightly pushed him for his comment. “Shippo asked me earlier if he should call you Otou-san.” She said.
“Keh. Not like he won't do anything he likes anyway.” Inuyasha said. “In youkai terms I am his Otou-san now.”
“Since we're mated?” Kagome asked.
Inuyasha nodded. “Quit with the questions and go to sleep. We have a long day tomorrow.” He said.
“Fine.” Kagome rolled her eyes.
Inuyasha pulled Kagome as close as she could get without squishing Shippo, who was between them. He leaned forward and kissed her. It had been so long since they'd been alone. Or at least together at a time when there were no worries. He pulled away to see her usual blush staining her cheeks. He grabbed her hand ruffled Shippo's hair gently.
Kagome smiled at the sweet gesture and squeezed his hand. Soon enough she fell asleep. Inuyasha soon fell into a half sleep. Just because he was in a castle didn't mean anything. The centipede youkai proved that earlier in the day...
-------------------
Kagome woke in the darkness, again the same as usual when she had a dream. Funny how her dreams were never pleasant, they always turned out to be nightmares. This dream was unlike her previous ones. It was like she was watching through someone else's eyes. The scene in front of her flashed and changed from the darkness to a sunny day with Sakura trees everywhere.
It was endless, the trees were in full bloom, petals flying everywhere from the light breeze. She saw herself walk into view from behind one of the Sakura trees. She was smiling with her hands behind her back. From behind the same tree Inuyasha came up behind her. He too was smiling. He walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her.
Suddenly everything stilled. The petals no longer flew. They stayed motionless in the air, just as their hair did. The scene began to darken and then what looked like blood washed over then the darkness once again. Kagome screamed and for the first time in the dream she was herself, not watching through anything.
She was horrified. She couldn't believe the scene she had just watched. Tears flowed from her eyes and she hugged herself, slowly falling to the ground. Laughter could be heard. It was soft at first and then got louder. She could recognize the voice but couldn't exactly figure out who it was. The figure appeared and she could see who it was. Naraku...
He stood there with a smile on his face, still laughing. He leaned down and grabbed her chin. `Mine' he said silently and began laughing once again...
-------------------
The next morning loud noises and someone jumping on the bed waked Kagome up. She sat up and looked around. Shippo was running from Inuyasha in a circle. He would jump on the bed causing Inuyasha to do the same and they circled around and around. She finally got tired of it.
“What are you doing?” She yelled.
Inuyasha and Shippo both stopped dead in their tracks not used to the sudden anger in her voice. “He started chasing me!” Shippo pointed accusingly at Inuyasha.
“You called me `Oyaji' you ungrateful little runt!” Inuyasha defended himself.
“I didn't mean to! You kicked me!” Shippo shouted.
“I was asleep! I don't care if you call me Otou-san but Oyaji is unacceptable.” Inuyasha shouted.
“Will you two just get out!” Kagome shouted.
“What?” Inuyasha and Shippo asked.
“Get out!” Kagome shouted.
Both Inuyasha and Shippo left. Her anger was something they had never seen. Not that badly anyway. Neither of them wanted to find out what was going to happen if they stayed. They looked at each other questioningly wondering what happened that made her so angry.
“What are you two doing standing out in the hallway?” Miroku asked with Sango close behind him.
“Kagome told us to get out.” Inuyasha said, still a little shocked at her anger.
“What happened?” Sango asked.
“I don't know. We woke her up and she started yelling.” Inuyasha explained.
“It's unlike you to be scared of Kagome.” Miroku commented.
“Shut up bouzo she was angrier than usual.” Inuyasha growled lightly.
“She was even mad at me.” Shippo whined.
“I'll talk to her.” Sango said. She lightly knocked on the door. “Kagome?”
The door opened slightly, then enough for Sango to slip through and then slammed shut. “What did you do to make her so angry?” Miroku asked.
“Fuck if I know.” Inuyasha shrugged and sat against the wall to their room. Shippo did the same and sat next to him.
-------------------
“Kagome what's wrong?” Sango asked. They both sat on the bed.
Kagome sighed. “I'm not really sure. I think I overreacted. I've really made things bad now.” She said sadly.
“What made you overreact?” Sango asked.
“I had a horrible dream. It was peaceful at first. It was like I was watching through someone else. I saw myself come out from some trees. I was happy. Then Inuyasha came behind me and hugged me. Suddenly everything was drenched in blood and it became dark again. Naraku showed up, laughing. He mouthed the word `Mine' and then I woke up.” Kagome explained. “Shippo and Inuyasha were arguing and I just snapped.”
“I wonder if the dream meant anything?” Sango said.
“I'm not sure. I...don't know what to make of it.” Kagome said. Tears started to run down her cheeks.
Sango patted her shoulder in comfort. “Everything will be okay.” She said. “I'll send Inuyasha in.” Kagome nodded. Sango stood up and walked to the door. With one last glance at Kagome she opened the door and stepped out.
“What's wrong?” Inuyasha asked as he stood up.
“She's upset. She had a horrible dream and you woke her up. She snapped.” Sango said. “I told her I'd send you in and she nodded.”
“Oi, Shippo you stay with Sango and Miroku.” Inuyasha said.
“But-” Shippo protested. One look from Inuyasha and he stopped. “Hai.” He jumped into Sango's arms sadly.
Inuyasha walked into the room and shut the door. He saw his mate crying on the bed and ran to her. He sat on the bed. “Kagome...” He whispered.
Kagome jumped into his arms at the sound of his voice. She said `I'm sorry' over and over again. “I didn't mean to...snap at you or Shippo...I...just had a bad dream...and I was scared...” She managed to get out.
“It's alright.” Inuyasha held her more closely. “We shouldn't have waked you up anyway.”
“I'm sorry...” Kagome said before going limp in his arms.
Inuyasha laid her down in the bed and covered her with a blanket. Something wasn't right. She wasn't usually like this. He stood up and as much as he hated to leave her side he needed to go and talk to Sesshomaru.
Miroku and Sango were sitting outside the room. “Is she okay?” Sango asked.
“She passed out.” Inuyasha said. “I don't think she's okay though...”
“What's wrong with her?” Miroku asked.
“I'm not sure. I'm going to talk to Sesshomaru. Keep an eye on her.” Inuyasha said before running to Sesshomaru's office. Something was wrong and he needed to find out what it was...

Oh and for those who like my work, I just wrote a one-shot for Fruits Basket. The one and only non-Inuyasha fic, it's a Kyo and Tohru pairing. Just thought I'd let you know! Ja ne!
