InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Awakenings ❯ Awakenings ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Disclaimer: I own nothing. Seriously.

A/N: OK…trying something a little different, again. My attempt with "Eternity" seemed to work, so here's something new - a quick one shot, nothing more. Twas inspired by PinkFalcon's "To Live Again" - I said inspired, not copied, or stolen, or whatever. Please excuse the format - the fives senses and the last word are supposed to be in italics, but I haven't yet figured out how to get them to show up. Anybody want to help me out? Anyways, enjoy!

Awakenings

Scent…

A rush of odours swamped his nose, his brain. The slight tang of trees and plants, growing in abundance around him. The musky trace of dirt and soil, soaking everything in earth. The faint fleshy aroma of animals and birds, flitting through the foliage. The quick, steady fragrance of water, dripping from the branches. He breathed in deeply - he could smell. The perfumes of the world submerged him in a strong, powerful flare - and above it all was her, her scent tickling his nostrils.

Sound…

A barrage of echoes met his ears, his mind. The twitter of birds, chattering to one other in piping voices. The rustle of leaves, moving against each other gently. The whisper of the wind, telling secrets he couldn't remember. The fading voices, cries from long ago. He flicked a triangular ear - he could hear. The noises of the world plunged him back into himself - and above it all was her, her footsteps pounding in his ears

Taste…

A bombardment of flavours invaded his mouth, his consciousness. The bitterness of blood, drawn from his flesh. The sourness of betrayal, hers and his own. The sweetness of revenge, tantalizing his taste buds. The staleness of age, years flown by in the blink of an eye. He licked his lips - he could taste. The essences of the world dragged him back from a faraway place - and above it all was her, her spirit tingling on his tongue

Touch….

A torrent of feeling reached his body, his awareness. The roughness of tree bark, hard against his back. The gentle brush of the breeze, kissing his face. The silkiness of his hair, whisking around his head. The sharpness of the arrow, pierced into the tree though his heart. He flexed his fingers - he could feel. The textures of the world informed him where he was - and above it all was her, her touch remembered by his skin.

Sight…

A flame of colour flooded his vision, his understanding. The vivid green of the plant life, surrounding him. The stunning blue of the waters, rushing by. The intense red of his armor, so familiar. The rainbow of nature, never ceasing to move. He blinked his eyes - he could see. The pictures of the world showed him where he was - and above it all was her, her figure visible in the distance.

A cold laugh broke the decade long silence of the glade.

Perfect…
