Once upon a time in a not so far away place….

"Kagome hun come inside now it's getting late!" called her mom from the door to their house.

" Ok mommy just let me tell Inuyasha goodbye."

"Not again Kagome. How many times do I have to tell you it's time to make real friends not imaginary ones?"

"Alright mommy I know"

In the kitchen…

`What am I gonna do with that girl. All she ever does is play with that imaginary boy. Hopefully when she starts school she'll make real friends' thought Mrs. Higurashi sadly while staring out at her daughter through the kitchen window.

Outside under the Goshinboku…

"Inuyasha, mommy says it's time to go inside. Tomorrow I start school so I won't be able to play all day but I promise as soon as I get home I'll tell you all about it." Said the little girl staring up into the branches of her sanctuary. She looked up and caught a glimpse of red and silver but in a flash it was gone.

`I hope Inu-chan isn't angry. I know he doesn't like me hanging out with other people but mommy says I need to make new friends. Mommy doesn't believe he's real. He said mommy's not allowed to see him cause she wouldn't be happy. I bet it's cause he's all…' A yell is heard from the kitchen again, but this time there is an edge of anger.

"Coming mommy"

The little girl ran through the back door into the kitchen and slid off her shoes. She put on her favorite slippers and walked toward her mother.

"Kagome, no more of this nonsense. Your six years old and you need to make real friends. I forbid you to talk to that imaginary friend again. Now go set the table and wash your hands. Dinner is almost done, I'm sorry Kag-chan but if you want to do well in life you have to make friends and be normal."

"I know mommy I'm sorry," said a rather despondent looking kagome as she washed her hands and set the table. At dinner that night she hardly ate at all and excused herself to bed. After combing her hair and laying out her new school uniform, she crawled under the covers and whispered to the night,

"Yasha, come out now." He jumped through her window and perched himself on the sill. After sniffing gently he hopped down into the room and made his was to his friend's bedside.

" Yasha, mommy said I couldn't talk to you any more. I'm very sorry but I don't want to get in trouble. Please don't be angry at me but I gotta obey mommy or she won't be happy."

"I understand Kag-chan it's ok I'll always be here though" he said tapping her heart and fading into the darkness.

"By Inu-chan I'll miss you my bestest friend," Kagome said before she drifted quietly off to sleep. In the morning she would find a small pendent on a silvery chain around her neck. Had she been older she might have realized it was a parting gift from a dear friend, and a key to be used in the future. She might have realized her dearest imaginary friend, who would not be remembered, by morning, had just given her the greatest weapon of all and the means to save the world. But being six years old, she thought as a six year old. An as young children tend to do she accepted the world to be as simple as it looked from the eyes on an innocent. So instead of wondering where or why, the next morning when she woke up she just wore the necklace and forgot about the rest of the world. For today was a milestone in the life of Kagome Higurashi. Today was the day she would start…..
