Chapter Eight: So, double date?
The next day Kikyou wasted no time in begging Kagome to ask Inuyasha about the double date and she kept at it until Kagome promised to ask. So when Kagome got to class she went and sat down next to Inuyasha. “Hey,” she said.
“So you're talking to me now?” Inuyasha asked.
“Not because I want to,” Kagome replied. “Kikyou's thinking about going on that date you're trying to set her up on,”
“That's great,” said Inuyasha. “Kohaku really likes her,”
“How do you know him?” Kagome asked.
“He's Miroku's cousin. Normally he wouldn't go to this school but his parents didn't like the school in his district, so he stays with Hoshi during the week so he can go to school here. He saw me walking with Kikyou and you your first day here and he's been hounding me every since.”
“Well why didn't he just ask her himself?”
“He's shy,” Inuyasha said. “So when does she want to meet him?”
“That's the problem-” Kagome started.
“Ms. Higurashi,” called Mr. Yatsuke. “Please continue your conversation some other time.” Class had begun without Inuyasha or Kagome realizing it. Feeling slightly embarrassed Kagome pulled out her notebook to start the warm up. As she worked on the first problem a folded piece of paper hit her in the head. She picked it up and opened it. It read: `Hey' Kagome twisted in her seat to look behind her. Kouga was smiling at her. She smiled back and gave a small wave.
When class was over Kouga was waiting for Kagome at the door. “Hey Kagome, can I walk you to French class?” he asked.
“Sorry Kouga,” said Kagome. “Inuyasha's walking me I need to talk to him about something.”
“It's cool; will you sit with me at lunch?” He asked.
“Sure,”
“It's a date,” Kouga said before walking off.
“You two are pretty chummy,” commented Inuyasha watching him go. Kagome shrugged in response. “So you were saying there's a problem?”
“Yeah, Kikyou's never been on a date before so she's kinda nervous,” Kagome said. “So, she wants to do a double date with me and you.”
“What!” exclaimed Inuyasha.
“If I had known you'd find the idea so repulsive I wouldn't have bothered to ask,” said Kagome dryly.
“What? Oh no! That's not it; I was just surprised is all. I'd love to go on a double date with you and Kikyou. This weekend maybe?”
“I don't know, I have to ask Kikyou and you have to ask Kohaku,” Kagome replied. “And don't get too happy, I'm doing this for Kikyou, not out of a burning desire to date you. Call me tonight and we'll work something out.”
“Alright, it's a date,” said Inuyasha mocking Kouga's words.
“Whatever,” Kagome went into her French class. The rest of the day was pretty uneventful compared to her first day. The moment Kagome reached her car after school Kikyou besieged her with questions.
“Well, did you ask? What did he say? Did he say yes?” She asked not giving Kagome time to answer.
“Calm down,” Kagome said. “Yes I did ask and he said yes. He's gonna call tonight to set something up. Maybe for this weekend.”
“Yes! I knew he'd say yes if you asked,” said Kikyou getting into the car.
“Like I said, I got it like that,” Kagome said donning a pair of shades and starting the car. When they got home Kikyou practically floated up to the house.
“My first date,” she murmured happily to herself. Kagome said hi to Kanaka and declining the offer of a snack she went straight upstairs to her room. Lying on her bed she thought back to lunch that day. It had been fine up until Kouga and his friends started talking and laughing about Inuyasha, it seemed to be a daily occurrence. Kouga was cool for the most part, he just seemed so….so malicious when it came to Inuyasha. She wished Kouga had told her the whole story or that Inuyasha would tell her himself. Before the incident at lunch yesterday he'd seemed very cool.
Kagome sighed, “I should stop daydreaming and get to my homework,” she said aloud. Getting up she dug in her backpack for her trig book. She had just finished the trig problems and was starting her French homework, writing a paragraph in French about what she'd done that weekend, when the phone rang.
“Kagome it's for you!” Kanaka called.
“Okay!” Kagome called back. She got up and went to get the cordless phone that was in the hallway. “Hello?”
“Hey Kagome,” it was Inuyasha.
“Hey Yash,”
“Yash?” he asked.
“You got a problem with it?” asked Kagome teasingly.
“Nope, so about this double date, Kohaku says he's good for this weekend. What about Kikyou?”
“I forgot to ask, hold on,” she got up and went to her door. “Kikyou!” she called out the door. “Is this weekend good for the date?”
“Are you on the phone with Inuyasha!” she called back. There was the sound of running footsteps and Kikyou appeared. “You're talking to Inuyasha?” she asked again.
“Yeah, come in here,” Kagome said. Kikyou followed Kagome into the room and sat on her bed. “So you said this weekend?” Kikyou asked.
“Yeah,”
“Okay, but what will we do?”
“Hold on let me ask,” Kagome picked the phone up. “Inuyasha? This weekend's good but what are we gonna do?”
“Uh, I was thinking-”
“Hold on,” Kagome interrupted. “I gotta beep.”
“Alright,” Kagome clicked over to the other line.
“Hello?”
“Hey Kags,”
“Hey Sango, can I call you back I'm trying to arrange a date,” Kagome said.
“OOO a date?” said Sango. “And you've only been there a couple of days, I want to here all the details.”
“It's not what you think but I'll call you back, okay?”
“Alright,”
Kagome clicked back over. “I'm back.”
“Okay, I was saying we could hit the mall. See a movie, grab something to eat at the food court, window shop, sound cool?” Inuyasha suggested.
“Yeah that sounds cool. I'll talk to you tomorrow Inuyasha I've got to finish my homework and then call my friend back.
“Alright, bye Kagome, tell your sister I said what's up,”
“Bye,” She hung up. “Inuyasha said what's up,” she told Kikyou. “And we're gonna hang at the mall this weekend with Inuyasha and Kohaku, maybe even see a movie.”
