I CHANGED THE ENDING TO THIS CHAPTER!

So sorry for the late update, that ending for the last chapter kind of happened on it's own and to be honest, I had no clue what I was going to write in this chapter. Well, hope you enjoy.

Bad Influence # Six: Playing Hooky

“Huh?” Kagome stared at him dumbstruck, still holding the hand that had helped her to stand a moment ago. Still too shocked to say anything, thinking that she hadn't heard right, she absentmindedly shook Inuyasha's hand.

“Oi, hello, Kagome?” Inuyasha called, waving his other hand in front of Kagome's stupefied face. “HEY!” He snapped his fingers in front of her face, watching as Kagome quickly broke from her trance. She shook her head before realizing that she still held onto his hand, moving it up and down as if she were meeting him for the first time. Blushing, she quickly removed her hand from his.

“Excuse me for a moment.” She said with wide eyes, before quickly disappearing into Inuyasha's bathroom, slamming the door behind her. Inuyasha stared at the closed door for a moment, before chuckling at her antics. “Weird woman.”

Kagome splashed water on her face, staring at her reflection. `What am I doing?' She thought to herself. `I stayed all night at a stranger's house. Well, he was sick, but a number of things could've gone wrong! I skipped school, so much for my perfect attendance record. Mama will kill me when she gets the call from the school! And what will happen to Sango, when Mama calls her to ask what happened! What's with me! I don't do stuff like this! I can't believe I did all that! I have to make up today's work. What am I going to tell Mama when I get home! Oh boy am I in trouble!'

She began banging her head against the door, muttering, “Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid.” Suddenly the door she had been hitting her head against flew open and she found herself losing her balance and being launched from her stable position behind the door. Just as she expected to collide with the carpet, she slammed into a soft figure. Looking up and blushing at the same time, she noticed a pair of violet eyes staring at her.

“Klutz.” Inuyasha muttered, a smirk on his face, shaking his head in a teasingly disappointed manner.

Jumping back from him, blushing from both embarrassment and anger, she yelled, “You were the one that opened the door on me! I could've been using the bathroom, you know!”

Inuyasha shrugged, placing his hands in his pockets, smirking as he answered, “Last I checked, girls don't do their bathroom time by whacking their heads against the door muttering `stupid' over and over.”

Kagome turned even redder and glared at Inuyasha when he started to laugh. “You, you!”

“What? Out of insults already?” He laughed at her livid face.

Still chuckling slightly, Inuyasha moved to gather his phone, stuffing it in his pocket, with a pair of keys following. He walked past a still fuming Kagome, smiling smugly, as he made his way to the exit of his apartment. “Well, let's go.” He said, looking over his shoulder when he reached the front door, watching the confused girl.

“Go where?” She quirked an eyebrow suspiciously.

“To play hooky, remember?” He smirked when he saw her eyes widen and she looked at him furiously.

“What? I didn't agree to do that! And what makes you think that I would do such a thing!” She crossed her arms, narrowing her eyes and giving him an angry glare.

“Do you have anything better to do?” He answered, returning her glare in full force.

She quickly opened her mouth to reply, but not a single comment came out. She couldn't exactly go back to school four hours late and have the teachers question her about her absence. She would rather not return home to face the wrath of angry parents. Both choices meant a series of interrogations as to what she had been doing. She didn't have any homework to do or track practice to go to either. She didn't really have anything important to do, and did not exactly want to her day's worth of scolding.

“I thought so.” Inuyasha said when Kagome had been quiet for too long. “Come on then.” He said, opening the front door.

“Wait, this isn't right.” She persistently rejected, making Inuyasha sign in annoyance. “I've skipped school, I've most likely got my best friend in a load of trouble, I cant just go out an have fun like that!”

Turning to fully face her now, Inuyasha sighed and said. “Just forget your conscience and go have fun! You can either go home and get wailed on by your folks or just enjoy yourself. Your call.”
She considered this for a moment. She defiantly didn't want to return to a fuming family and there was no real responsibility on her today since she skipped school. She nodded muttering a quick, “Fine.”

“Finally. Does it always take this long for you to make up your mind?”

“Maybe. Especially when it comes to you.”

“Smartass. Shall we?” He said, twirling his keys around his fingers. “What?” He asked when she gave him an annoyed look.

“I told you before. I'd rather jump onto a speeding train than sit in the same car as you. You're young and have two legs, walk.” Not saying another word, or giving him a chance to reply, she walked past him and out of the apartment, leaving an annoyed and dumbfounded Inuyasha staring after her.

“She's going to be the death of me.” He muttered while locking his door. Finished with checking the lock, he rushed after Kagome who had just gone down the stairs and was waiting for him by the manager's office. She watched him come down the stairs, not noticing the manager come out of his office.

“Hi there.” He said, winking at her.

Not wanting to be rude she answered. “Uh, hi?”

Just as the manager was about to say something, Inuyasha came to stand in front of Kagome. She noticed that the manager bowed politely and stepped away from them, but she hadn't seen the death glare that screamed, “back off” which Inuyasha had sent toward the man. A moment later, they found themselves taking a train and then walking though the streets.

“So where to?” Inuyasha asked, while puffing on a cigarette as the two of them walked through the bustling city. Kagome turned to him while striding at his side to give him a confused look.

“I thought you were deciding on that.”

He came to a sudden halt on the street, making Kagome stop next to him. Taking the cigarette from his mouth, Inuyasha suddenly leaned his face into hers again and she could feel his gaze burrowing into her eyes. She felt all her blood rush to her head and knowing that they were in a public street where anyone could watch didn't help much with her blood pressure.

“Are you saying,” Inuyasha began, his nose touching hers, “that you are willing to go anywhere with me.”

Kagome shrieked and jumped backward, almost far enough to jump into the road. She lost her balance and began falling backward, flailing her arms helplessly while an oncoming car came into her vision. “Ahh!” A hand enclosed her wrist, hastily pulling her away from harm and into Inuyasha's awaiting hold.

“Are you fucking crazy!” He placed his hands on her shoulders, shaking her lightly. Still too shocked and beginning to blush from the people on the street that were staring at them, Kagome took a moment for the haze to clear from her mind before she swatted Inuyasha's hands away.

“May I remind you that it was YOUR teasing that caused me to do that!”

“Keh.”

“So…uh…what did you mean by anywhere?”
“I was thinking about…no, never mind.” He smirked when he saw her glare at him for leaving her in suspense.
“Hey! Don't leave me in the dark!”

“Arcade.”

“Huh?”

“The arcade is our first stop.”

()()()()()()

“I win again!”

“Damn.”

Kagome taunted, placing her hands on her hips, staring at the score. Fifteen to twelve. It surprised her that she was this good at air hockey. Having come to the arcade for the first time in months, she thought it would just be beginners' luck. Not so long after her accident earlier, Inuyasha had steered them to the nearest arcade, where they suddenly and strangely got a jolt of competitiveness and had been playing air hockey ever since.

Kagome had long since stopped counting the times she had beaten him. Though now she was beginning to think he was giving up. When they first began playing he had beaten her a good few times, but then it was like he suddenly lost his talent and it made Kagome think that he was a bit of a sore loser. That last “Damn” of his didn't sound like much of a disappointment.

“Hey, Inuyasha?”

“Yeah.” He looked up just as he was about to put another coin into the machine, hinting another round and a rematch.

“Are you going easy on me? You were winning at first.”

“Uh…”

“Great! And all this time I thought I was finally beating you. I'm not a sore loser, you know. I'm an athlete; I know when to admit defeat. If I'm not winning fair and square then I don't want to win at all. Don't go easy on me because I'm a girl!”

Inuyasha stared at her from across the hockey table. He had wanted to see how much she could boast, so he had been letting her win. Not to mention he liked paying attention to how her body swayed back and forth with she would hit the hockey puck with her paddle. He didn't think she would notice that he was pretending to lose. Smirking, he started another round, holding his paddle and preparing to hit her goal.

“You asked for it, Kagome! I don't like to lose.”

“Then, you had better be ready, because you'll be up to ears in losses!”

It was like a typhoon had spread over the hockey table. Some people in the arcade stopped playing to pay attention to the pair as they smacked the puck across the table like their lives depended on it. Kagome struggled to keep the puck away from her goal. How had he kept his strength hidden for so long? The puck would zoom across the table so fast that even their audience would say that they didn't see it. Luckily for Kagome and her fast reflexes, she was able to block Inuyasha's movements and counter with a quick strike of her own. She wasn't just fast on the racetrack.

“Goal!” Kagome announced, doing a small victory dance and blushing when some of their watchers cheered for her, but their cheer turned into a sigh when Inuyasha managed to score a point while Kagome was preoccupied.

“Hey!” She began while retrieving the puck. “That's not fair, I wasn't paying attention.”

Inuyasha shrugged, “It's not my fault that you were distracted. If you don't focus you will lose.” He finished with a smirk.

“Playing dirty, huh? Two can play at that game!” Inuyasha was too late to stop the puck from entering his goal; he gave Kagome an annoyed look while her new fans began cheering again.

“Now I'm really going to make you lose!” He growled.

“Just try it!” She answered back.

The crowd watched as the two competitors began shooting the puck across the table. The game play between the two of them was so rough that Kagome and Inuyasha began panting from the force of their strikes against one another. At one point there was a pattern: Kagome would make a goal, then Inuyasha, and then Kagome again.

Kagome tensed, preparing for another block as the puck came rushing toward her goal. She heard the crowd gasp as they watched the upcoming attack. Kagome could feel her heart pounding in her head as she held her breath, a similar feeling she felt when she was in a race. The puck came flashing toward her, she slid the paddle in her hand and whacked the puck so hard that the rebound caused it to go flying off the table and whooshing through the air.

“Oh my god!” She gasped, the puck hitting Inuyasha square in the forehead before he could dodge it.

He fell backward on his rear, holding his injured temple. “ Itee!”

Kagome quickly dropped her paddle and ran across the table to kneel next to him. “I'm so sorry, did that hurt, I didn't mean to do that!”

“No shit it hurt!” He gave her a wounded look.

“Hey, the timer on the game stopped.” Someone from the crowd announced, noticing that the air hockey table stopped functioning. “So who won?” Someone else asked while Kagome helped Inuyasha to his feet. They turned their eyes on the scoreboard.

“A tie?” Inuyasha said, looking at the score that read ten to ten.

“I guess we are even Inuyasha.” Kagome giggled and then blushed when their audience began clapping.

“Looks like we gave quite a show.” Inuyasha remarked, scratching the back of his head. He picked the puck up from the floor, placing it back on the table, showing the watchers that the game was over.

Placing his hands in his pockets, he said, “Let's go, Kagome.”

Wanting to get away from their audience, she quickly nodded before following him out of the arcade. She had to admit, this was the first fun she had in ages. The last time she went out was when she had gone shopping with Sango, but that wasn't too much fun since she wasn't that big of a fan. She barely had time to go out anymore. If it wasn't schoolwork, it was track, and she wasn't busy with track, she would be making plans for student council or studying. She was partly relieved that Inuyasha convinced her to play hooky. Kagome blushed; it almost felt like they were on a date.

“Are you okay? Did that last game wear you out? You're all red.” Inuyasha asked when he noticed her flushed face.

Kagome hastily shook her head, trying to rid herself of the thought that made her blush. “No. I'm fine, I was just thinking about something.”

“What were you thinking about?” Kagome blushed harder as the thought came back at full force. She felt the warmth of Inuyasha's hand on her forehead.

“See your face is all red again, maybe you caught my fever or something.”

“No, I'm fine, I swear.” She flashed a false smile to distract him as she pulled his hand away from her face.

“Do you mind if I do some quick shopping? These shoes are killing me.” She blurted out, trying to change the subject and, before Inuyasha could protest, she rushed into the nearest shoe shop.

“Oh, why did I do that?” Kagome cursed at herself as she walked through the aisles, looking for a pair of tennis shoes in her size. “Stupid. I've never acted this way before!” She muttered while pulling a pair of shoes and placing them on her feet. “Why do I feel so funny?” She pulled the shoes, thinking that they fit well, and walked toward the cashier. “Why did I suddenly get flustered like that?!” She said under her breath as the cashier gave her change for the shoes. She tugged the new shoes on her feet, breathing in a quick sigh. She hated high heels, especially the kind with the tiny heel; they hurt her feet so much. Taking in a deep breath, she left the store, finding Inuyasha waiting for her at the exit.

“That was fast.” He remarked. “Most girls I know take hours shopping.”

“I hate that. I like to get in, get what I need and get out.” Kagome replied.

“So are you sure you're feeling okay?”

Kagome felt like slapping him upside the head for bringing it up again. “I'm fine!” She said annoyingly as they began walking again.

“You don't have to get so pissed, I was just wondering!” Inuyasha snapped back.

“ Don't be so mad because you almost lost that round, Inuyasha.” Kagome smugly replied, steering the conversation elsewhere.

“What! I would've won if the puck hadn't gone flying off the table!”

“Whatever, you're just a sore loser, admit it! You know, that I would've won!”

“No, it would've been me!”

“I was going to win and you know it!”

“Sure y-”

Before Kagome could tell what was going on, a hand had placed itself on Inuyasha's shoulder. In a flash, his eyes widened and he grabbed the hand and arm, flipping whoever it was that had a hold on him over his shoulder and into the pavement of the sidewalk.

“Owwwww!” The man whined.

“What did you do that for Inuyasha!” Kagome snapped, smacking Inuyasha in the back of the head.

“HEY!” He turned to say something to her but his anger quickly receded and he turned to the man on the floor.

“Oh shit! I am so sorry, it's a reflex, I can't help it!” He said as he knelt toward the person he had just unconsciously attacked.

“Ow. Man that hurt. You never change, do you Inuyasha.”

“Oh, it's just you, Satoshi.” Inuyasha muttered annoyingly as he got to his feet.

The guy managed to get himself on his feet, dusting himself off. “Is that anyway to treat one of your best friends?” He asked before hitting the back of Inuyasha's head.

“Hey!”

Sensing an argument coming, Kagome quickly interrupted, before the two males could pound the living daylights out of each other like they looked like they would do. “Um, Inuyasha, who is this?” She asked, watching as they both turned their attention toward her.

“This,” Inuyasha began, gesturing to the guy next to him, “unfortunately, is one of my best friends: Satoshi. This is Kagome.”

Kagome looked Satoshi over. His dark-brown hair was short, cut on all sides, inch-long strands resting against his scalp. His eyes where the same color as his hair; he had straight nose and his face had soft features. He stood the same height as Inuyasha, though not as rugged. She would admit he was easy on the eyes, but she liked Inuyasha better. Kagome blushed again, this time slapping her palm against her forehead.

“Nice to meet you Kagome. I hope my dumb-ass friend here, hasn't caused you too much trouble.” Satoshi said, extending his hand, which Kagome quickly took.

“Nice to meet you too and no, Inuyasha hasn't done anything too rash.” She replied and giggled when Inuyasha rolled his eyes.

“You call flipping me over his shoulder and almost breaking my head in the pavement not too rash?” Satoshi teased, giving her a toothy grin and releasing her hand. Kagome laughed and already knew that she would get along very well with this Satoshi.

“It's your own fault. What, I've known you for almost eight years and you still do the same goddamn thing! You'd think after all those times you were twitching in the gravel, a guy would learn.” Inuyasha mumbled the last part under his breath while giving Satoshi a truly exasperated look.

Satoshi chuckled, turning away from Kagome. “Actually, I wanted to find you Inuyasha. What happened to you for the past week, I've been trying to get a hold of you but it's like you vanished from the face of the earth, not that some people would mind.” He finished sarcastically.

“Shut it, Satoshi. If you must know, I had a doctor's appointment.” Inuyasha huffed, glaring at Kagome as she tried to hold in her giggles behind Satoshi.

“Doctor's appointment, huh? Head problems again? Or is it serious, you've finally fried enough brain cells to land you in the IQ category of an idiot.”

“You know it will take me years to reach the category your in.” Inuyasha replied with a smirk. This time it was Satoshi's turn to frown as Kagome couldn't hold in her amusement any more and abruptly burst into laughter. Satoshi turned to her and gave her a brief look that stated, “traitor.” Kagome calmed herself down and apologized.

“You up for a little sport?” Satoshi asked as he turned back to Inuyasha while Kagome still chuckled lightly behind them.

“What'cha mean?” Inuyasha answered, looking intrigued.

“My roommates made a bet with some rivals. They're going play a game of soccer for money. Unfortunately, one of our players chickened out and we need an eleventh man.” He said, patting Inuyasha on the back.

“And you want me to come to the rescue, huh? I'd help but…” He looked in Kagome's direction.

“Bring her along.” Satoshi suggested, quickly turning back to Kagome. “You're an athlete, right, Kagome?”

“How did you know?”

“You just look like the type. How'd you like to watch a soccer game? We need someone to cheer for us anyway.” He shrugged, hands in his pockets.

“Why not.”

“Good, then let's go.”

Kagome sat on the bench watching Satoshi's team kick the ball back and forward across the park's soccer field. She couldn't believe that so many college boys would play sports for money. Many girls and boys had come along to support their friends and she found herself screaming for Inuyasha and Satoshi as the game progressed.

The two of them were like the leaders of the field as they deftly rushed between other players when the ball was in their possession. A few times the ball was stolen from Inuyasha, but he was quick to reclaim it. It was decided to have three parts to the game, each of them timed, the team with the most points at the end of the three rounds would be claimed as the winner. So far the teams were tied, both struggling to give their team an edge.

Satoshi held the ball, and Kagome cheered as he neared their opponent's goal, the moment she thought that he was about to kick it into the goal, a member of the other team rushed to steal the ball. Kagome could barely manage a moment of panic, when the player skidded his leg in the grass, tripping Satoshi in his attempt to get the ball. She saw his foot take an abnormal twist before a team member shouted “time out.”

Jumping of the bench, she was the first to reach him, kneeling down next to him as he clutched his leg. “Satoshi, are you alright?” She asked, seeing Inuyasha rush toward them.

“Hey, are you okay?” He asked hastily.

“Shit! It's my ankle, I think I twisted it.” Satoshi answered, holding his injury. Inuyasha knelt down and hooked his arm under Satoshi's shoulder and across his back, helping his friend to his feet and taking him to sit on the bench while their teammates came huddled around them.

“This isn't good. If he can't play, we forfeit. We need an eleventh player and there is only ten minutes left in the last round.” A person from the team remarked.

“I know that shit head!” Inuyasha snapped, turning his attention back at Satoshi. “Do you think you can go on?” He asked, seeing Satoshi grit his teeth as he rotated his ankle.

“He shouldn't run with a twisted ankle, it could get worse and become a sprain.” Kagome cut in.

“Kagome, you can take my place.” The entire team gasped at hearing Satoshi's suggestion. Kagome jaw dropped.

“What? Me?” Kagome said, pointing to herself.

“You have played soccer before, right?”

“Yeah, with my brother, but I'm not much of a team person, the only team sport I've played is relay racing.”

“Well then, imagine that the ball is the baton and that the goal is the person you are passing it to.” Satoshi suggested.

“Great, we're definitely going to lose now, letting a girl on our team.” A team member whined, placing his hand on his forehead.

“Hey!” Kagome, Inuyasha, and Satoshi said at the same time. Just as she was about to argue some respect into him, Inuyasha beat her to it.

“Don't worry, she's fast, and it's not like we have much of a choice.” He said.

“Please Kagome.” Satoshi asked.

“Alright, I'm in.” She sighed, knowing she was defeated. There was a few times that she played one on one with her brother, Souta, it couldn't be that difficult to play with a team, but she felt so pressured, knowing that Inuyasha and Satoshi didn't want to lose. She wasn't used to this kind of sport.

“Hey, they must be desperate, letting a girl onto their team.” An opponent sneered.

“What!” Kagome hissed, glaring at him as he stood on the field with his arms crossed. “I'll show you desperate! Inuyasha let me in, I'm going to make him eat those words!”

Inuyasha's could only stare wide-eyed when Kagome suddenly dipped down to do the splits while stretching her arms in front of her. She really scared him when she was angry. He made a mental note not to push her too far in the future, or make a snide comment about her sex. She stood up quickly, eyes narrowed and gleaming with a mix of anger and determination as she stared out at the snickering opposing team with a small smirk on her face. He gathered the team members, ushering them back into the field.

“Give them hell, you guys!” Satoshi called, seemingly enjoying himself as some girls from the crowd came to comfort him while he recovered from his wound.

“You bet I will.” Inuyasha called back.

Shortly after the whistle rang from the crowd, Kagome rushed after a teammate that held the ball. She flashed through the other members, slowing herself down in order to stay behind the person that held the ball. Someone from the other team stole the ball from her teammate in front of her eyes, but the second he had gotten it, Kagome's quick feet stole it from him. She ignored the rest of the players, too far ahead of them to make a pass, and slammed her foot against the ball, making it soar toward the other side of the field where the goal keeper was too shocked from her speed to stop the ball from entering.

“Wow, she is fast…” Satoshi stared astonishingly as Kagome rocketed across the field when she held the ball, and quickly appeared to steal it when it was taken. The only player that seemed to keep up with her was Inuyasha, as he seemed to be the only one that was near her when ever she passed the ball.

Satoshi's heart pounded. Somehow with only a minute left in the game and the score amazingly still tied, he watched as Inuyasha ran across the field with the ball. Just as a couple of players came up from behind him, he passed the ball to where Kagome had appeared at his side. While the team members reverted their attention to her, desperately trying to keep her from getting the ball any closer to score, she came to a halt a few feet in front of the goal. In a flash she passed the ball to Inuyasha who was open and free across the other side of the field.

Holding her breath with the crowd, as their last chance to win the game played out in front of her in slow motion, she watched keenly as Inuyasha intercepted the ball, quickly kicking it in direction of the goal. The entire crowd became silent as they watched the ball fly over the grass as it neared the goal. The goalkeeper rushed to stop the oncoming sphere, his hand stretching out to keep it from entering. The crowd gasped, the ball brushing past the tips of goal-keeper's fingers and banging against the net of the goal.

Kagome let in deep breath, becoming pale before she realized what had occurred. “WE WON!” She jumped in her place, looking over to the losing team as they stood their with their jaws hanging open. She looked for the guy that had insulted her, and finding him, said, “Who was desperate you said?” He glared at her. She giggled rushed to meet Inuyasha in the middle of the field to congratulate him. “Whoa!” He grabbed her when she suddenly jumped into his open arms.

“Not bad, Kagome.” He said, getting over the shock of her embrace and holding her back.

“For a girl?” She squeezed his shoulders and neck, laughing.

“Keh, for anyone.”

“Congrats on the winning goal!”

Realizing that they were in still in front of an audience, Inuyasha getting pale while Kagome's face heated up, they immediately released each other, Inuyasha looking one way and scratching his head while Kagome crossed her arms and looked another, blushing.

“Alright, game's over, time to pay up.” Inuyasha stated to the leader of the losing team. Grumbling, the losing team went over to the bench where Satoshi sat. The two teams gathered around, all eleven members of the losing team giving the amount agreed upon to Satoshi. Satoshi counted the money, making sure it was the right total, before passing out even quantities to the other members of his team.

“Here,” Satoshi quickly placed some money in Kagome's hand before she could protest. “It's half of my winnings.”

“Huh, oh no, I wasn't in it for the money, I just wanted to help. It's okay, please I'd feel guilty.” She said, trying to get Satoshi to take the money back.

Satoshi pushed her hands away, “Take it. It's only fair since you took my place. We would've had to forfeit if it wasn't for you, so you deserve it.”

“Keh! Just take it, Kagome.” Inuyasha called, looking over his shoulder with his back to her before turning to talk to the team that was still praising him for his goal.

“Okay, if you insist.” Kagome sighed, pocketing the money, but she quickly drew it back out of her pocket saying, “How about I buy you guys lunch to celebrate your victory?”

“You don't have to do that.” Satoshi quickly replied.

“But I want to. Please?”

“Alright.” He said, giving in.

“Hey, Inuyasha, let's go eat.” Kagome called to him.

“Sweet!” He yelled.

“What's with him?” Kagome asked.

“ You just said the magic words, Kagome.” Satoshi answered.

()()()()()()()

Kagome sat in WacDonald's, watching as Inuyasha ordered his lunch. Having already paid for the three of them, she waited while taking sips of her punch for Inuyasha and Satoshi asked for their orders. They had refused to let her buy them lunch at first, but she kept insisting and Satoshi had given up while Inuyasha had stubbornly kept on declining. In the end she had whacked him on the head, saying she was buying and that was that. He looked like he was about to object again, but Satoshi gave him a glare and told him to let Kagome do as she pleased.

“Does he take this long to chose what he wants? Can't he just get a cheeseburger combo and eat?” Kagome asked when Satoshi came to sit at their table near the window.

“If you haven't noticed he loves to eat. Here's a secret, you can always bribe him with food.” Satoshi said, winking. Kagome couldn't help but laugh, remembering how she had bribed Inuyasha with food when they had made their deal. She knew a weakness now.

“Are you two done talking about me? Because if you have something to say, say it.” Inuyasha interrupted, suddenly standing next to them with his tray of food in his hands, and Satoshi flinched from the sound of his voice.

Kagome chuckled, closing her eyes, but when she opened then, she found Inuyasha and Satoshi in the middle of a glaring battle.

“Um, you guys…”

Suddenly, Inuyasha and Satoshi began digging into their food like a pair of starving dogs, and she watched wide-eyed, taking small bites of her food wile watching them in their eating race. Inuyasha wolfed down his food till the last bite of his burger and fries, he finished, beaming at Satoshi who had yet to finish.

“I win.” He said after swallowing.

“Damn. You eat faster than ever.” Satoshi whined.

Kagome shook her head, muttering, “Boys.” She rose from her seat, muttering a quick “excuse me” as she went to wash her hands.

“She's cute, you like her, Inuyasha?” Satoshi asked, when Kagome had cleared their table.

Inuyasha chocked on the soda he had been drinking, coughing a little before giving Satoshi a light hit on the arm. “Hell, I don't know! I've only known her for little over a month!” He snapped, his face a with a light pink hue.

“Now how does a girl like that get with a guy like you?”

“She's just a friend from school.”

“She's really fast. Bet she plays track.”

“Yeah, she's captain of the team…She beat me in a race.”

“What, the fastest guy I know was beaten by a girl?” Satoshi laughed, but his teasing was cut short when Inuyasha hooked his arm under his neck and began rubbing his fist against his scalp.

“First, I'm still way faster than you. And second, you saw how fast she is, do you think you can beat her?”

“Okay, I get the point, let go. Geez, I was just kidding with you!” He said when Inuyasha let him go, rubbing his crown.

“Did I miss something?” Kagome asked when she neared the two.

Shortly after their little time at the restaurant, Kagome and Inuyasha said goodbye to Satoshi. He left, saying that he could see them around and told Kagome it was nice meeting her. After he left, Kagome suddenly felt that queasy feeling she had been that morning when she was alone with Inuyasha. The sun was beginning to set.

They walked home in silence, watching the orange skies as they turned red when the sun reached the far end of the horizon.

“There you are, you bastard!” In a second someone yelled from behind them. In another, Inuyasha stumbled backward holding his bleeding nose.

“Fuck!” He yelled, holding his gushing nose in his hands and looking up at his attacker.

Sango drew her fist back, preparing to hit him again when Kagome yelled for her to stop. “Sango, what are you doing?” Kagome asked in a mix of shock and anger, watching as Inuyasha touched the bridge of his nose tenderly with his fingers, grumbling about women hitting his head along with a string of profanities.

“Why weren't you in school today!” Sango shouted. “Did he kidnap you or something?” She demanded, throwing an angry look at Inuyasha, who glared at her; his hands were still covering his abused nose.

Trying to calm her best friends down, Kagome had told Sango about his sickness and everything that happened that day. Sango, in turn, had explained that her mother had called, and had not been too happy with the news of her cutting school.

“I guess I'm in for it now!” Kagome sighed.

“Don't worry, I'll come home with you to help clear this mess up.” Sango suggested. “And you,” she said, pointing to Inuyasha who was rubbing his sore nose. “I don't trust you, but since you were sick, I'll forgive you this time, but I'll have my eye on you.”
“Fucking great, I'm under more surveillance.” Inuyasha muttered.

“Kagome, I'll be right back.” Sango said as she rushed to the nearest pay phone across the corner of the street they had been standing in.

“I guess I have to go face the heat now.” She said turning to Inuyasha.

“Do you want me to come with you, so your folks don't punish you too badly?” Inuyasha offered, but Kagome shook her head, looking down at the ground. “I think I'll do this on my own. It wasn't your fault. You were sick and I wanted to help, it's not like you planned for me to oversleep and miss school.” She looked back up at him, blushing before she said, “Thank you, for today though. I had a lot of fun.”

“Maybe you should play hooky with me more often. Next time I might take you somewhere even more fun.” He winked.

“Don't count on it.” Kagome said through narrowed eyes. “How's your nose?” She asked. A good amount of blood had spewed from Inuyasha's nose, running down his chin but it didn't look like anything was broken.

“Like shit.” He said.

Kagome pulled out a handkerchief from her pocket, dabbing it softly on his face. “Sorry about that. I guess she just got a little carried away.” She said.

“A little?” Inuyasha asked sarcastically, taking the handkerchief from her and cleaning his face. “That hurt like hell.” He whined.

“Well, she is a black belt. Anyway, I had a really good time.”

“Doesn't it feel nice to just let go and fun once in a while?” He smiled, handing her the bloody napkin and turning to leave before Kagome could reply.

“Later.” He said over his shoulder as he walked away.

“You'd better be in school next week, Inuyasha!” She yelled after him.

“Keh. I know you miss me!”

“As if!”

Opening her handkerchief, she saw the money Inuyasha had placed there. It was the amount she spent on buying them lunch and a small letter saying that he and Satoshi agreed to repay her since they felt guilty that she paid for lunch. She glared at the paper. What was this? She was just being friendly and treating them to lunch! They didn't owe her a thing!

She had to face the heat from her parents. She saw Sango come to greet her, saying that they should head to her home before it became dark. Nodding, Kagome sighed and began walking home, dreading each step.

“Boy am I in for it.”
