Anyway, Bad Influences is approaching One hundred and Fifty reviews. I still can't believe it…heh! Thanks again, and I hope you enjoy this chapter!!! Long chapter ahead. Be warned, lots of cursing.
Bad Influence # Eleven: Talking Back.
Kagome finished writing and put the paper aside, looking up around the class. She could see the girls and boys eyeing her secretly. Sighing, she put her head on her desk. “They're still talking.” She grumbled.
“Well, these things will take time. It could be worse.” Sango said from behind her, her eyes on her paper as she wrote down her translation.
“How?” Kagome asked dubiously.
“They could go on and on about how we `plan to elope and raise seven kids.'” Inuyasha said tiredly, staring out the window with his chin in his hand.
Kagome became a rousing shade of pink. “They're saying THAT now!” She hissed.
“Who knows?” Inuyasha shrugged. “It's all bullshit in the end.”
Sango gave a small giggle behind Kagome. “What's so funny?” Kagome demanded.
“You know, someone asked me if I was the maid of honor in student council today.” She said, smiling.
“And you think that's funny!” Kagome growled.
“Whoa. Who'd of thought? I was just guessing. So they really are saying that.” Inuyasha said with obvious fake intrigue and sarcasm.
“You know the fact that they are saying you two are going to elope is a bit of a complement on your side, Inuyasha.” Sango teased.
“Oh really?” Inuyasha raised his eyebrows. “How so?”
“Well, considering that the students have deemed you with the reputation of being the school's playboy badass, it's a bit surprising that they think are honorable enough to marry.” Sango failed to hide a laugh.
Kagome laughed, “At least it's better than being a sex fiend.”
“Whatever…” Inuyasha looked both annoyed and tired at the same time. He failed to stifle a large yawn and, pushing his papers aside, put his head on the desk.
“Sleep at home, this is school, Mr. Taisho. If you come to class only to sleep, then perhaps it's better you leave my class and go to bed.” The teacher's voice came from the front of the class. Poorly hidden snickering erupted from the students. Ignoring them, Inuyasha looked up to the teacher, not bothering to disguise his tired look.
“I'm done with my work, what more do you want?” He asked. The students stopped laughing and looked at him speechlessly. It was rare that anyone had the gall to talk back to a teacher, but what was even more shocking was that Inuyasha had just been smart with one of the strictest teachers in school. They watched, as a small silence lingered for the teacher's reaction.
The teacher looked at him patiently, but her eyes betrayed her face. It was obvious that a scolding was about to happen. Tolerantly, she re-arranged her glasses and said, “Bring me your work.”
Without even a nervous glance, Inuyasha stood, gathering his papers, and walked across the class, handing them to the teacher's awaiting hand. He crossed his arms, waiting as the teacher looked over the papers.
“Hmm, did you copy these off of another student?” She said as she flipped through the finished work. Several of the students laughed, others sent suspicious looks at Kagome's direction. Meanwhile, Kagome and Sango exchanged looks and looked down at their own work.
Inuyasha said nothing at the accusation. He just raised his brows and looked at the teacher annoyingly. “Or are you some kind of genius, that you could finish all this work twenty minutes after I passed it out?” The teacher asked sarcastically.
“No, of course not. I'm so amazingly stupid, that I can't handle a few foreign language assignments without looking over at the other kids' papers.” Inuyasha said in fluent, unaccented English, earning him a look from the teacher.
The whole class was truck dumb, half of them looking at Inuyasha with their mouths open, the other looking nervously at the teacher.
“Well then,” The teacher said, placing his papers on the desk, “why don't you go outside for the rest of the class?”
Saying nothing, Inuyasha walked out of the class.
“That was hardly fair.” Sango said after he left. “He did his work, and he wasn't sleeping.”
“Still, he could do with less attitude. Teachers don't like it when the students act up.” Kagome said.
“Oh, I'd have thought that you would be defending him.” Sango teased.
“So would half the people in this room.” Kagome grumbled. “Knock it off, Sango. We're not even friends, he's just an acquaintance.”
“Fine, fine.” Sango shrugged and went back to her work.
Kagome pretended that the conversation hadn't happened and turned over her papers to check her already finished work. It was a long hour. She had finished the assignments long ago, and after doing work from another class, Kagome found herself wishing that she were kicked out of the class as well, and then scolding herself for thinking such things.
Kagome could never remember being more thankful for the bell ringing. Collecting her things, she rose from her seat, waiting till the class emptied to leave. As she walked by the teacher's desk, she was called back.
“Kagome, could you take the smart-mouth the rest of his assignments?” The teacher asked.
Kagome turned from the door, saying, “Sure.”
The teacher handed her the papers, saying, “I wish he used his powers for good, not evil.” Unable to stop herself, Kagome said, “What do you mean?” She then made a face, wondering why she was curious.
The teacher leaned on her elbows, folding her hands together. “He's a good student. Does his work, does well on tests, and answers questions when asked. He comes second to you in this class. Quite the surprise as you were always my unrivaled, top student.”
Kagome blushed at the rare complement. “I wouldn't be surprised if he already knew how to read, write and speak the English language. If only he didn't have such a meager attitude toward school. His work is fine; I just don't appreciate the overconfident, outlook he has. He could have been the model student if not for the ego.”
Kagome found it quite odd that a teacher was complementing Inuyasha. Though she had heard that he did well academically in school, most of the teachers complained about his lack of enthusiasm, how he never seemed to be paying attention, how he was quick to complain, how he had the gall to sleep in class. No teacher had said anything about his work habits, possibly to proud to say that he did well but behaved badly.
“Well, anyway, give him assignments when you next see him.”
However, Kagome didn't see Inuyasha for the rest of the day. Her foreign language class was the last class she had wit h him. She knew that he most likely left early like he usually did. What did he do outside of school that was oh so important? She found herself wondering. Besides working, there must have been a reason he didn't want to come to school as often.
“You're completely out of it.” Sango said to Kagome as they packed their things, finished with another school day. Kagome looked up at her wearily.
“How I'm going to get his work to him, if he's not around?” She grumbled.
“Don't you know where he lives?” Sango asked.
“I do, but the last thing I need is for some random student to spot me headed to his house.” Kagome sighed. She walked out of the main building of the school with Sango. Taking a turn toward the physical education field, Sango said, “Well, you're in luck, there he is.”
And sure enough, Inuyasha was standing by a tree, talking to someone. He seemed to be annoyed by the look of his stance. For some reason, Sango made a nervous grumble as they got closer to Inuyasha and the guy he was talking to. When she was close enough to hear, Kagome heard Inuyasha say, “And just what are you doing here, Miroku?”
Kagome heard Sango make a strange noise. She looked at the person deemed to be Miroku. He was slightly shorter than Inuyasha, but it wasn't that noticeable. His hair was short, dark brown and tied in the nape of his neck. Kagome could make out a slight, grayish brown eye color. Miroku stood up strait with a strangely fitting grace that only he seemed to be able make look good. It was little strange to be seeing him stand next to Inuyasha's gruff posture.
“I just came by to say hello to you in school. Is there something wrong with that?” Miroku told Inuyasha. Apparently the two boys hadn't noticed Kagome or Sango yet.
Inuyasha clicked his teeth. “Yeah right, are you sure you're not here to pick up innocent, high school girls?”
“Why would you accuse me of such a thing!?” Miroku asked, looking innocent.
Sango chose then to make her presence known. “Yes, Miroku, why would he assume such a thing?”
Miroku and Inuyasha looked up at Sango. “Why Sango, when did you get here?” Miroku said nervously.
“Don't change the subject.” Sango snapped.
“Well, I uh…” Miroku stuttered.
“No.” Inuyasha smiled smugly. “She's the girlfriend you've been keeping from Satoshi and me? I would've never pictured you and her!” He tried to keep himself from laughing. “Wait till Maki gets a load of this!”
“You can't tell her Inuyasha!” Miroku shouted angrily.
“And just who is this Maki?” Sango asked. She turned to Kagome saying, “I'll see you tomorrow, Kagome. I don't want to be around this ass any longer.” With that, Sango turned and left.
“Now see what you've done!” Miroku accused Inuyasha before running after his girlfriend. “Sango wait!”
Kagome watched the pair vanish from her sight. She wondered why Sango never introduced her to Miroku. Kagome couldn't tell much of his personality. This wasn't the first impression she had pictured. The way Sango usually talked about him, she was blushing and saying how he could be sweet and strange at the same time.
“I wonder why she kept it a secret all this time?” She said aloud.
“Sango was keeping Miroku a secret from you too?” Inuyasha asked, putting his hands in the pockets of his jeans. Kagome turned to him and nodded; she had almost forgotten that he was there.
“So that's why he came here.” Inuyasha thought.
“So, who is he?”
“Miroku? You've just met one of the biggest perverts on the planet and one of my old friends. He's also Satoshi's roommate.”
“I wouldn't say that I met him, more like saw him.”
“So one of my friends is dating one of your friends?” Inuyasha stared out in the distance. “What are the chances. I hope Sango can keep him in line. By the way, why did you come here?” He looked at Kagome.
“Oh right.” Kagome fished into her book-bag, pulling out the papers and handing them to a bemused Inuyasha. “The teacher asked me to get them to you. It's tonight's homework.”
“Aw crap. I was hoping she would forget, then I would have an excuse not to hand them in tomorrow morning.” Inuyasha grumbled while rolling the papers up.
“You know,” Kagome began, “you could try paying attention more in class.”
“Not this again. Look, I already know half the crap that the teachers are teaching so what's the damn point?” Said an irritated Inuyasha.
“Why do you have this cocky attitude toward the classes? You can't expect to know everything, Mr. Ego! You could at least try to make it look like you're making an effort!” Kagome scolded.
“However I decide to do my school work is none of your fucking business! And who are you to go off scolding me about my attitude like you're little miss perfect!” Inuyasha had said the wrong thing. Kagome puffed out her chest, her face reddening.
“Fine, be a cocky jerk! It's not like I care anyway!” Kagome shouted.
“What's your problem!”
“My problem is your full of yourself attitude, that's my problem!”
“Full of-” Inuyasha ground out. “Look who's talking! Like you're the modest type! Miss perfect student, yeah right! Strutting around the school like you own the fucking place! You're always on MY case, nagging as if you're the model student and I have to follow your damned example! You're just like the rest of them, always looking down on others!”
Kagome gritted her teeth in anger. “Well if that's how you feel, then maybe you were better off as the stupid bad-boy who thinks he's too good for the world! See if I care! I'm leaving you pathetic egomaniac!”
“Well fine then!” Inuyasha growled.
“Fine!” Kagome countered.
“FINE!” He yelled back.
Fuming, Kagome pulled her book-bad higher on her shoulder and stomped away. `That jerk and his too good for school attitude! See if I care if he gets into more trouble!' Her hands were shaking from anger, and all she wanted to do was get as far away from him as possible.
“Stupid, stupid, stupid!” She grumbled, stamping her feet as she walked. Kagome watched angrily at her feet as she headed toward the changing rooms. She brushed by someone so hard, that her arm hurt. Looking up, Kagome say Yoko rub her shoulder from where she had hit Kagome.
“Wow, aren't you angry.” Yoko said, rubbing her arm.
“Yoko. I'm sorry, I'm not in the best mood right now.”
“What happened?”
“Let's just say that I'm sick of arrogant people.”
“Oh, I'm sorry.”
“Stupid jerk! Egotistical! Selfish! Stupid, stupid, stupid!” Kagome muttered under her breath.
Yoko smiled inwardly, knowing full well of whom Kagome was talking about. Oh this was perfect. She had been wondering what she could do to make it seem like they were fighting, and they go and do it themselves! What better way to put them on the spot when they are so willing to contribute!
“Sorry, Yoko, I'm late for track practice.” Kagome said as politely as she could.
“No at all, go right ahead.” Yoko said, smiling.
Kagome stomped off toward the track field, still fuming. When she entered the changing room, the other members of the track team distanced themselves from her and watched her nervously as she changed. She slammed her locker closed, and walked out into the field, growling about the hot weather as her teammates watched her bewildered. Even her coach had noticed something was wrong when during practice.
“Kagome are you alright?” She asked when Kagome stopped a few inches in front of her after finishing her laps.
“I'm fine.” Kagome said, flashing a fake smile, but her eyes remained angry.
“I have noticed that you tend to run faster when you are angry.” The coach looked around the other teammates before looking back at Kagome. “When you're in track practice, I want you to know that you have to be thinking of the practice and nothing else.”
“I know that!” Kagome snapped.
“Good, because I'm excusing you for today. Try to calm down, I don't want to suspend you again.” The coach explained sternly.
Grumbling, Kagome stomped past her and headed for the locker rooms.

By the time Kagome came to school the next morning, she had somewhat calmed down. Unfortunately, when she entered her first class with Inuyasha, her anger came back full force. He didn't speak or look at her and she made it a point to do the same. Barely a week and a half ago she had started talking to him again, and now she was back to avoiding him as much as possible. This time, however, he was keen to avoid her also. To make matters worse, the rumors had begun again. It seemed that her actual fight with Inuyasha had started some kind of rumor riot. Kagome could still hear them in class, in the hallways, and outside.
“I wonder if they will break up?”
“I wouldn't mind if they did.”
“I heard he said that she was full of herself, and I happen to agree. Stupid little miss perfect.”
“So the eloping is off then?”
“Who cares about that now.”
They didn't even bother to lower their voices. What if the teachers heard about this? Kagome found herself wondering as she entered her foreign language class. She had dreaded this class all day, wondering how she was going to manage sitting next to Inuyasha for an hour and forty-five minutes. Sighing, she entered the classroom, ignoring the looks from the other students, and sitting in her seat.
Inuyasha was already there, but he was looking the other way and said nothing, just as Kagome had hoped he would. Unfortunately, Sango must have felt the negativity between them. “Did something happen between you two?” She asked.
“NO!” Kagome and Inuyasha hissed at the same time, then glared at each other for a moment before looking the other way.
“Right.” Sango huffed and went back to work, ignoring them.
More whispers erupted from the class at Inuyasha and Kagome's sudden outburst. Kagome tried her best to ignore them and continue her work. During free study, a few girls came up and began speaking with Inuyasha, and it seemed like he didn't mind the attention.
When the class ended, Kagome was ready to rush out of the classroom. Unfortunately, her lack attention due to being so absorbed in her anger made her bump into Inuyasha on the way out.
“Do you ever pay attention to where you are going?” She hissed.
“Depends on who I'm going to run over.” He said coolly, his eyes burning.
Pushing past him, Kagome stomped out into the hallway, the waves of anger that were coming off her scaring the younger students. She bumped into a girl on her way to the restroom. The girl yelled out an irate “hey” but Kagome didn't notice her and headed into the bathroom.
The cold water felt good on her burning face. She stared at the mirror, her face dripping, and took a few breaths to calm herself down. Her arms were shaking as she leaned on the white sink.
“Well, if it isn't Kagome.”
Kagome looked up to see a few girls file into the bathroom. She watched as three girls stood coolly behind a tall, longhaired girl that seemed to be the ringleader of the group. Kagome recognized her as one of the more bold girls that had interest in the cool guys in school.
“Did you have a fight? I knew it wouldn't last. You're not the type that can hold on to him.” The girl said. Kagome remained silent, fighting off the anger that had just arisen again.
“It's pathetic.” Another girl chimed.
“Are you done?” Kagome asked.
“Not a chance, I've meaning to talk to you.” The ringleader said.
“Well too bad, I'm late for my next class, excuse me.” Kagome pushed past the girls before they could stop her. She heard them give a surprised, “come back here,” but she didn't care.
`I don't care what they say about him!' Kagome thought as she sat into her seat. `I'm not apologizing!' She had a sneaking suspicion that he was stubborn enough to hold on to a grudge and keep from apologizing as well. If he hadn't been such a jerk, she wouldn't have been so angry!
And so it went on for a week. Kagome and Inuyasha barely had an exchange of words, avoiding each other as much as humanly possible. The students kept up with their talking. The girls who had the guts to approach Inuyasha, sent snide looks in Kagome's direction as she ignored them. The physical abuse began again. Without the threat of Inuyasha, the girls were quick to pester Kagome.
If it wasn't for Sango's support, Kagome was sure she would stress about it just as she did last time. Sadly for Sango, when it became known that she stuck with Kagome, rumors about her began as well. Sango, being more mature, paid little attention to the ridiculous stories of teenagers.
One morning in student council, it became apparent that everyone else wanted nothing to do with Sango or Kagome. Sango went about her work normally and Kagome tried her best to do things without the council's input. It was harder. Tatsuya made it a point to avoid her as much as possible, which came as a surprise to Kagome since he usually never left her alone. She would have been happy about it, if it didn't make her job as vice president harder. The only member of the council that didn't pretend they didn't exist was Yoko. For some reason Yoko seemed in a really happy mood, but even she began distancing herself after a while.
By the end of the week, Kagome was sure that she would be suspended from track practice again. Her teammates had started pestering her again, and it was only a matter of time before the coach noticed. To make her worst fears come true, a few teachers sat her down at the end of classes and asked her what was going on.
“It's nothing. I just had an argument and the students are making it a big deal.” She tried assuring her foreign language teacher.
“Hmm, if you weren't such a good student, I would have questioned your behavior. Just try to avoid trouble and don't make matters worse.”
“Believe me: I'm trying.” Kagome muttered under her breath.
“I'm a bit worried about your work in the council. Please resolve this issue, Kagome. I'd hate to take away your privileges.”
Kagome nodded and headed out of class. When she entered the hallway, a few students stepped aside out of her way. “It's not nice you eaves drop.” Kagome hissed at them. The students walked away, muttering while Kagome turned to Sango.
“This is getting out of hand.” She said.
“I'm beginning to wonder if I should punch the next person who says something to me.” Sango said. “This is so annoying. I thought most high school seniors had outgrown such immaturity.”
“So did I.” Kagome grumbled.
“Why don't you make up with him? You know the fact that you are fighting is making the rumors worse.” Sango pointed out.
“No! I'm not apologizing!” Kagome replied stubbornly.
“Fine. Fine.” Sango sighed.
As Kagome was heading home later that day, she felt that her patience was wearing thin. The student's were talking, the teachers were beginning to notice, everyone was avoiding her in student council and track, bothering her, or pretending she didn't exist. Now she knew how Inuyasha felt when she avoided him a week and a half ago.
Kagome gave a very big sigh and looked up at the clouds. “When will it end?” She asked to no one in particular.
“Who knows?” A voice answered back.
Flushing, Kagome searched around for the voice, but she didn't have to look far to see that Inuyasha was sitting on the branch of the large tree she was standing by.
“How long have you been up there!” She demanded, looking up at him.
“Oh, are you talking to me now?” He asked, crossing his arms.
“No!” Kagome replied automatically. “How did you get up there?” She asked.
“I climbed.” He said sarcastically, stressing the obvious. “Unfortunately I lost track of time and ended up falling asleep. Your annoying voice woke me up.”
`You fell asleep?” Kagome wanted to laugh and would have done so if it weren't for his last comment.
“You got a problem with that? Or is it now prohibited to fall asleep?”
“Not in a tree!” Kagome couldn't help it, the chuckles escaped her before she noticed it.
“What's so funny?” He shouted.
“You! Sleeping in a tree, that's so…I don't know…” Kagome giggled. “It's suits you.” She smiled.
Inuyasha raised his eyebrows, swung his leg over, and jumped off from the high branch. Kagome let out a little scream, but he landed on his feet without even a scratch.
“Are you crazy! What if you broke your leg or something!” She yelled at him.
“This coming from the girl who ran across a red light?” He crossed his arms.
“Are you EVER going to let that go!”
“I'm pretty sure you never will either.” He rolled his eyes.
Kagome smiled despite herself.

Yoko hummed to herself as she left the main building. Everything was well. Everyone in the council and Tatsuya were leaving Kagome alone. The teachers were noticing and all the students were talking just as she planned. What was better was that Kagome and Inuyasha were really fighting!
She couldn't help but smile smugly to herself as she passed a big tree. The sound of laughter reached her ears as she walked by. Unable to step over her curiousity, she hid behind a fence to see Kagome leaning on her knees laughing while Inuyasha stood frustrated. She would have thought that they were fighting again, had it not been that Kagome didn't sound like she was angry.
“Knock it off! What are you laughing at?” Inuyasha shouted.
“This whole week has been driving me crazy and then you go and pull something like this!” Kagome laughed, holding her stomach. “This is priceless! Inuyasha falling asleep in a tree! What are you: a monkey?”
“Shut up!”
“You're hilarious, you know that!” Kagome laughed harder.
“You can stop laughing now.” Inuyasha grumbled.
“Okay.” Kagome bit her lip to keep herself from smiling, trying to remember that she was mad at this guy. “I'll behave.” She failed to keep a giggle in.
“This doesn't mean I'm apologizing.” Inuyasha said quickly.
Unable to keep it in any longer, Kagome suddenly began chuckling hysterically. She bent over, holding her stomach. The fact that Inuyasha seemed to puff up with irritation only made her laugh harder.
“What the hell? What now? Do you have some kind of laughing disorder!”
“N-no! It's…you…I knew you would say that! You're so predictable!” Kagome giggled.
“ `Predictable!'” Inuyasha growled.
“This is so weird.” Kagome calmed down a little and was able to stand strait, though still smiling. “Kind of funny how last time, you were the one laughing. Talk about the inverse effect.”
Seeing her point, despite himself, and the urge he had been fighting, Inuyasha couldn't help but grin. “Oh yeah.” He said.
Yoko ripped out some leaves from the bush she was standing next to! Why did they have to pull something like this! Everything was going perfectly and then they go and make up again! She cursed her back luck. Of all people, it had to be these two that could make conversation so natural and easy!
“You know,” Inuyasha's voice came to her ears, “this doesn't mean that everything is perfect between us.” He said.
`Yes!' Yoko thought: he was going back to the argument.
“I never said it was.” Kagome answered, narrowing her eyes. She sighed, “You know what. Let's just forget it, it was a stupid argument anyway.” She said.
`Damn it!' Yoko cursed.
“Are you still going to nag at me about my school habits?” Inuyasha asked sarcastically.
“Actually your work is fine, it's your attitude that needs adjusting.” Kagome crossed her arms.
“You're not going to let this go are you?” Inuyasha sighed.
“Nope. It was part of the deal.”
`Deal? What deal?' Yoko strained her ears.
“The deal was that I come to school more often, not that you scold me for my work ethic.” Inuyasha answered Yoko's unheard question.
“What kind of deal are you talking about?” Yoko came out from behind the fence, smirking as Kagome flushed with embarrassment. Inuyasha remained expressionless as he turned around to face her.
“Yoko, you heard that?” Kagome asked tentatively.
“Is there something going on here?” Yoko tried to sound disappointed, masking her eagerness.
“What's it to you?” Inuyasha said.
“You made some deal with him to make him come to school more often! This is not how a member of student council is supposed to act.” Yoko pointed at Kagome.
“I couldn't get him to come to school otherwise!” Kagome defended.
“Hey wait a minute!” Inuyasha ganged up on her. Yoko smiled, sensing the fight coming.
“Why are you smiling?” Inuyasha growled, catching the look on Yoko's face. The smile faded quickly.
“What, I wasn't smiling!”
“Yes you were!” Inuyasha accused.
“What's going on?” Kagome said, frowning.
Yoko couldn't stand it anymore, her broiling frustration rising to the surface. “Damn it! Everything was going so well, and then you go and pull something like this!” She yelled.
“What are you talking about!” Kagome shouted, confused.
“Wait till student council hears about this! You'll get kicked off for sure!”
Kagome's eyes widened. “It was you, wasn't it. You were the one spreading those rumors! You were in the bathroom that day those girls were talking. And you were the one that I ran into after I had that fight with Inuyasha. Why? What did I ever do to you?”
“Oh, you did plenty! Little miss, perfect vice president, star of the track team. Oh sure, the entire school loves you!”
“That's why you did this! Because you were jealous!”
“No! Why would I want to be jealous of you? I needed to slander your reputation enough to make him lose interest in you!” Yoko shouted.
“You bitch. You really think I give a damn about some bullshit rumors?” Inuyasha stepped in.
“Not you!” Yoko shouted, “I could care less about you, I just used you. I'm talking about Tatsuya!”
Kagome was really taken aback. Tatsuya. This whole fight was about a guy she didn't even like? That's what all this was about?
“I don't care about Tatsuya.” Kagome yelled. “I thought you knew that!”
“But he cares about you! He always talks about you! It's always about you! Why don't you just disappear and take your little power reign with you!”
A resounding smack was heard. Yoko's check stung as her face struck to the side. She was speechless.
Kagome pulled her hand away, the back of her palm stinging. “You think I'm some attention crazy girl?” She snarled at Yoko. “I'm on student council because I like it! I play track because it's my favorite sport! You think I do this for attention! And you go ahead and slander my name just to get to some guy that I don't even like that way! I can't believe how selfish you are! You really think Tatsuya would like you when you act this way!” Kagome shouted.
Yoko seemed to recover from the sudden attack. “It doesn't matter anymore.” She said smugly. “Once I tell the council about your little deal, you'll be kicked off. No teacher wants a delinquent on the council! Once you're out of the way, Tatsuya will stop talking about you!”
“I can't believe you!” Kagome growled, but eyes were fearful. If Yoko really did tell the council, not only would she get kicked off the council, but the teachers would lose their respect for her and the rumors would only get worse. It would make her entire school experience a nightmare!
“You're scared now, aren't you!” Yoko said smugly.
“I think you're the one who should be scared.” Inuyasha spoke up, causing both girls to look in his direction.
“What do you mean?” Yoko snarled.
“You know,” Inuyasha winked at Kagome, but his face looked furious, “you made one little mistake when you started this whole thing.”
“What's that?” Yoko said smugly.
“You chose to involve me.” He said.
Yoko rolled her eyes. “Yeah right, what can you possibly do?”
“If you tell the council, I may just tell Tatsuya about this little plan of yours.”
Shock covered Yoko's face, but she masked it quickly. “It doesn't matter, your reputation is so bad that he wouldn't believe you!”
“Maybe your right, but frankly,” Inuyasha stood up strait, towering over Yoko, “I'm pissed!”
“What?” Yoko said nervously.
“Who the fuck do you think you are, spreading bullshit about me just to get what you want!”
Yoko cringed.
“I think it's time for some payback. I don't like being used. I don't like how everyone in the school give me those looks either. Rumors are so easy to start and since I'm such a bad boy, I could easily create a scandal about you. I could just make your life a living hell like you were planning to do with me. And trust me, I've made enough enemies to do it too.”
Yoko looked stunned but she said, “Yeah right, like anyone would believe you!”
“Why not? I've got the gunshot scar to prove it. Your pathetic rumors talked about what badass I am, I could make it so the entire school thinks your out there doing some dirty deeds yourself.”
“Gunshot scar? Hah! Don't fool me. You can't do anything!” Yoko said smugly.
Inuyasha sighed, and, to Kagome's surprise, suddenly grasped the collar of his shirt and pulled down, the circular scar on his right shoulder visible.
Yoko stepped back, anxiously.
“You wouldn't.” She said.
“You don't want to test me. I'm very pissed off and you don't want to know just how far I will go.” Inuyasha growled, looking very angry. “Nothing will happen to you if you keep your mouth shut and stop these damn rumors.”
“Why are you defending her? Are you two really together?” Yoko growled.
“Who said anything about defending her! The deal that you have to shut up about involves me, doesn't it? Just keep your big mouth shut, stop spreading bullshit, and behave yourself like a good girl. I'm not sure just how lucky you will if you piss me off even more.”
Inuyasha turned and began to walk away while Yoko stood there, shaking.
“Inuyasha wait!” Kagome ran after him.
“You shouldn't have threatened her like that!” Kagome said when she caught up to him. “What if she calls the police or something?”
Inuyasha smiled, looking evilly over his shoulder at Yoko, who flinched and walked away. “She wouldn't. Besides if she did, Arisa would bail me out in two seconds.”
“Arisa?”
“My dad's attorney.” Inuyasha explained.
“Were you really going to make her life a nightmare if she continued saying anything?” Kagome asked nervously.
“Oh that? I was just bluffing. I'm not going to do anything.” He said smirking.
“You could've fooled me.” Kagome made a face.
“Aw did I scare you too?” He laughed.
“That's not funny! You looked so mad and you really sounded serious!”
“That's bluffing. You have to make it look convincing. If she spreads rumors, then she's probably the type that gossips herself. I just scared her with what she fears most.”
“Then why did you show her the scar?”
“To scare her and get my point across.”
“But what if she tells somebody?”
“She won't.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“Because I know she won't risk it. She's too gutless, I can tell.” Kagome wasn't sure if what he said was right, but remembering the look on Yoko's face, she knew that she would stop spreading rumors. At least, Kagome sighed happily, this was finally over.
As they approached Inuyasha's car, Kagome flushed and yelled out, “Thank you!”
Inuyasha stopped just as he was about to put his key in and open the door, staring at her incredulously, as if he never expected the words to comes out of her mouth.
Kagome flushed again. “Thanks for stepping in and helping me.”
“You're welcome.” He said, opening the car door, but not getting in.
“So are things okay with is again? I don't like being angry.” Kagome flushed.
“Yeah, just forget that it ever happened.” Inuyasha said, looking away, the awkwardness of the situation getting to him. He wasn't expecting to be thanked. “Hey!” He called just as Kagome was about to leave.
“I'm sorry about…you know, what I said.” He saw her jaw drop.
“I'm sorry about what I said too…still you could at least try to look like you're trying in school…so the teacher's don't get as mad at you…”
Inuyasha sighed, “Fine. I'll try.”
Kagome smiled. Saying goodbye as he got in his car and drove away, she turned to head home. She couldn't remember the last time she was this happy or relieved.
