Chapter 5

Inuyasha cursed in his head. He had been still ever since he felt aother youkai near where he and Shippo were. He could hear the youkai's foot steps on the demolished hut not too far away. Though he wanted to run Inuyasha knew doing so would only draw attention to him and Shippo. So he was stuck until he was either found out or the youkai left.

Other than hearing it Inuyasha couldn't feel it's youki or smell it. Hiding scent and youki takes a lot of strength and very few youkai could do it. He grimaced, 'That means the tiger is still here.'

A growl sounded behind him followed by a quiet scream. Then Inuyasha heard the sound of snapping bones and the human quieted. A louder growl came from the youkai and Inuyasha felt the hairs on his neck stand up. They had been found out.

He jumped aside, narrowly avoiding the tiger's attack. Finally getting a good look at the tiger Inuyasha tried to guess it's elemental attribute. The tiger was black with red stripes covering it's body. "Shippo, do you know what element it is?"

"If I had to guess. fire. But I'm not sure." He was still shaking with fear, tiger youkai aren't to be messed with.

"Well, well. If it isn't Lord Inuyasha himself." The tiger mocked Inuyasha with obvious amusement.

Shippo looked at Inuyasha in question but didn't voice his question. 'Lord? What does he mean Lord?'

"Do not call me that! Who the hell are you anyway?!"

He chuckled, "My name is Saisuke. I have been searching for your dear brother. You wouldn't happen to know where he is would you?"

"Why the hell would I know where that bastard is?!"

Saisuke growled, "Then I have no use for you." His eyes started to glow red as his body was ungulfed in flames. "You should know that I plan to kill your brother and his little human girl. I have already killed his servant Jaken."

"I don't care about that heartless bastard!" In his mind Inuyasha was trying to grasp what Saisuke said, 'Human girl? No way, not Sesshoumaru.' He did something that he hadn't done since he fought his brother ages ago. Inuyasha took out Tetsusaiga, watching as the small katana transformed into a large fang. At it's hilt tan fur danced from the breeze. "Let's do this."

He roared, flames shot out of the ground around Inuyasha. "You will regret those words hanyou."

Inuyasha dodged the fire and leapt at Saisuke. He swept his sword in an arc and waited to hear the sound of his ripping flesh. It never came. Standin not ten feet from Inuyasha stood not one, but three tigers. "What the hell?! Can't fight me by yourself?"

The tiger with dark green stripes and black body stepped forward. "We were ordered to end the bloodline of the moon. We do not have time to play fair." His emerald eyes started to glow a faint green. His body was shimmering a brilliant green, "You are finished hanyou."

Vines shot up from the earth and struck Inuyasha around his middle. Some of them wrapped around his ankles and his wrists. Tetsusaiga fell from his hands and to the ground. It reverted back to it's normal katana shape. "You bastards." Next to him Inuyasha saw Shippo completely tied up in the vines.

Shippo bit the vines but they didn't give way. He scrnched his face up, "Fox Fire!" Blue flame shot onto the vines.

The dark blue tiger rolled his eyes, "Such a weak attack will not save you kit."

"Hiraikotsu!"

A large boomerage flew at the vines holding Inuyasha and Shippo. Sango and Miroku followed the boomerage on Kirara's back. The fire neko roared and landed behind Inuyasha. Hiraikotsu connected with the vines but glanced off and landed to the side of the tigers.

Saisuke growled, "Why are humans so incessant?"

***********

Koa and Sitora watched from the forest outside the village. They had been there when Inuyasha arrived at the village and watched them sweep through the village for survivors. They had already searched the village from their vantage point and knew there were no living being in the village.

"We should get down there." She stood up, "Lord said to interfere only if one of their lives in is danger and I'd say that's the case."

"Yes, I agree. Lord did not want the hanyou to be killed yet. Or any of Kagome's friends for that matter." Koa stretched his wings and prepared for flight. "This time Saisuke is going down."

"Yeah, we should concentrate our attacks on him." Sitora growled lightly and jumped down from her place on the ledge. She made sure her scent and youki were hidden as she silently made her way to the hanyou and his friends.

~Be careful Sitora.~ Koa took off into the sky and glided far out of sight. He would wait until called for.

~I know.~ She walked through the village until she got a clear view of Inuyasha and the enemy. Sitora got as close as she could without alerting them to her presence and crouched down. Her eyes clouded with an icy blue color.

Dropping the temperature would make Saisuke's powers harder to use. Once the immediate area was colder than usual she stepped into their view. Each step she took left ice on the ground from her paws.

Saisuke turned towards a sound to his right. He managed to hide his surprise from her, "Well, Sitora. I thought you would have died from my poisons. Or did your little friend heal you?"

"You should not be here Saisuke. You have been warned to leave these lands more than once." She stopped when she was even with Shippo and Inuyasha. Her tail swished behind her and the vines holding Inuyasha and Shippo captive froze instantly. With a swipe of her claws the vines shattered and released their prisoners.

Inuyasha picked up Tetsusaiga and pointed it at Saisuke, "You are going to pay for that."

Sitora shook her head, "You should run while you can hanyou. This will not be pretty."

"Fuck off! I have a bone to pick with them." His attention returned to the three tigers, "Where is Kagome? I know you had something to do with her disappearance."

"Would that be the miko who got involved in our fight?" The question was directed at Sitora. "I believe she would know."

Inuyasha turned to Sitora, "Where is she?!"

"I don't have time for you Inuyasha! Help or leave!" She turned back to Saisuke, ignoring Inuyasha.

Koa rolled his eyes from his hiding place, 'That hanyou is a fool.'

"You will pay for interefering with matters that don't involve you." Siasuke's eyes started to glow red again except this time he choked and tried to stay standing. He winced in pain, "What did you do?!"

"If the air is too cold you can't use your element. Fire is weak against ice Saisuke." Sitora crouched down and roared at them. Ice started to flow from her place on the ground and ran towards Saisuke and the other two. The ice shot up from the ground.

They jumped away from the attack. Saisuke was slower than normal from it being cold, he couldn't dodge very well and was hit by one of the ice spears.

~Now Koa!~

Inuyasha heard a howl in the distance and felt the ground rumble in response. He watched in amazement as rocks shot up with the ice at Saisuke. He took this opprotunity and grabbed Shippo. He fell back to where Sango and Miroku were standing. "What the hell are you doing? Get on Kirara and get into the air!"

They started and did as he ordered them to do. Miroku and Sango watched fom the sky as another youkai showed up to help Sitora. It was an inu like Inuyasha except he had wingsand was in his animal form. He stood next to Sitora glaring at the three tigers before them.

~Ready Koa?~

~Yeah, we've practiced this more than enough.~

Simultaneously Koa howled and Sitora roared. The ground shook with more force this time around. Their eyes were glowing brightly, Sitora's blue and Koa's brown. Both were focused on Saisuke as he tried to hold his footing as the earthquake continued. They growled at him and focused all of their elemental power to where he stood. A single giant spike made wholly of ice and earth shot up from the earth under his feet.

When the rumbling earthquakes subsided and the dust cleared two of the three enemy tigers were gone. The third, Saisuke, was lifeless as he hung from the spike that had impaled him. Blood was dripping from his mouth, his eyes stared blankly into the distance. The risen moon cast a silver glow on his lifeless body, and made his blood glisten a dark red.

Sitora sighed, "It's finally over with him." She sat down, her exhaustion finally catching up to her.

Next to her Koa breathed in the night air. Though tainted with the blood of innocent lives, it spoke of a victory long awaited. He was tired but not as much as he knew Sitora was. She had fought most of the battle and used more energy in their attack. Koa turned satisfied eyes to Sitora's exhuasted form next to him. "After all these years." He chuckled, "You would have thought that an upstart like you would be the one to finally bring that ass down."

She glared at him half-heartedly, "If I wasn't so tired I would kick your ass Koa." Sitora's ears went back when she heard footsteps from behind. She had nearly forgot about the hanyou and his friends. With a steel will Sitora got to her feet, though somewhat unsteadily.

Koa turned to the group who were looking for Kagome. He took in each of their appearances, however, his eyes lingered on Inuyasha. He had heard about him before but had never seen him until now. Next to him he felt Sitora stand up.

Turning to face them she readied for another fight if need be. They were just looking at her and Koa, almost in wonder and almost in fear. Neither Koa nor Sitora had said one way or another whose side they were on. So an attack was anticipated by both sides.

"Who are you?" Shippo had hopped off of Sango's shoulder onto the ground and was walking towards them slowly. There was something about the tigress that Shippo found familiar, but he couldn't place it.

"I am Sitora and this is Koa." Her eyes never left the kit, "Why did you all come to this village?"

Miroku stepped forward, "Shippo and Inuyasha caught the scent of blood on the breeze and led us here. Those youkai, they did this didn't they?"

"Yes, they did. Saisuke has been slaughtering entire villages for over fifty years. This was the largest by far." Wondering at Koa's silence Sitora said, "It would be wise to return to whatever village you are from. It will not be safe in this area for the next few days.

Inuyasha growled, "They said you took a human. One that got involved in one of your fights, is that true."

Koa growled at the hanyou in return. He had no right to question them.

"Yes, it is true. Though I can not tell you much, I can say that Kagome is fine."

Sango gasped, "Please where is she? She is important to our village, everyone is grieving her disappearance."

Sitora shook her head, "I am sorry, but I am forbidden from telling you where she is." A small smile lit up her face, "She's a very interesting person that's for sure. I will tell her that you all send your regards."

"That isn't good enough!" Inuyasha made as if to charge when a growl from Koa stopped him cold.

"We are not allowed to kill you, but that doesn't mean I will not attack you for threatening her." He had taken a step forward, challenging Inuyasha to try and touch her.

Ignoring what was happening between Inuyasha and Koa, Shippo looked at Sitora and cocked his head. "You look familiar. But why?" He looked at her ice blue eyes and his own eyes widened, "You-you're Hiro's sister."

Sitora looked at the kit in shock. "How do you know that? How do you know about Hiro?"

"We used to be friends before he disappeared. He told me all about you, but not that you looked like a tiger. Hiro always said you were the most beautiful tiger youkai in the four territories." He looked down, "It was your eyes that made me remember. Hiro said your eyes were as cold and unforgiving as a blizzard."

Tears stung Sitora's eyes, "When was the last time you saw him?"

"It was over ten years ago." Shippo was very young when he met a tiger youkai in the forests of his old home.

He was out without his mother again and was attacked by a snake youkai. Hiro had saved him and they were the best of friends after that. That was until Hiro came to his village one last time to say goodbye. He said something about being chased and that it would be dangerous if he kept coming around Shippo's village. That was the last time he saw Hiro.

"Sitora, Koa."

They all turned to a dragon who was standing up on a cliff overlooking the village. Sitora cast a sideways glance at Shippo but looked at the dragon. Koa kept his eyes on Inuyasha, not once looking at the dragon with the familiar voice. Inuyasha glared at the inu with the wings. He didn't like the looks the inu was giving him.

"Come, we must go."

Sitora nodded, "Alright." She looked back at Shippo, "Hiro is alive Shippo. Never stop believing that." With a backward glance at the group of foolishly brave humans and kit she ran off towards the dragon."

Koa followed after Sitora without a word.

************

Miroku had suggested that they settle far from the village, so they went into the forest. They had found a little hotspring not far from the forest path and set up camp next to it.

Inuyasha sat against a tree with his hands in his sleeves. Tetsusaiga was nestled in his lap incase he needed it. His mind was going over everything that had happened throughout the day. Mostly though he thought about that inu who helped Sitora save them; Koa. When Koa looked at him Inuyasha got the feeling that he was being compared to someone or something. It unnerved Inuyasha to no end.

Sango unrolled her sleeping bundle and readied for bed. After she was under the covers she looked over at Inuyasha. Something was bothering him, but she didn't know what it was. She couldn't just ask either, Sango wasn't so good when dealing with Inuyasha when he was in one of his moods. So she resigned herself to just go to sleep, Kami only knew how much she needed it.

Miroku was standing out by the water's edge just looking up at the night sky. 'Kagome is alright.' He sighed, though Inuyasha wanted her back he overlooked the fact that she was at least safe for the time being. He had also felt the appraising that Koa was doing of Inuyasha, and wondered at it.

Shippo tugged on Miroku's robe.

He looked down at the little kitsune. "Yes, Shippo?"

He jumped up onto Miroku's shoulder and got right next to his ear. He whispered, "That Saisuke guy, he called Inuyasha 'Lord Inuyasha' and I haven't asked Inuyasha about it yet."

"What was his reaction to this?"

"He got really mad and told Saisuke not to call him that. Then Saisuke said something about Inuyasha's brother. How they were going to hunt him and his little human girl down and kill them. They called him Sesshoumaru."

Miroku's eyes widened slightly at this. "Sesshoumaru? Are you certain?"

"Yeah, that's what they said."

"Thank you Shippo." He smiled softly at the fox, "You should get some rest."

"Okay. Good night Miroku." He hopped down from the monk's shoulder and went to where Sango was already sleeping. He curled up next to Kirara and dozed off.

"Inuyasha may I have a word with you?"

The hanyou grumbled but got up and went to the monk. "What do you want?"

"Your brother, his name is Sesshoumaru?"

He growled, "Where did you-Shippo. I'm going to kill him." Inuyasha turned away from Miroku's penetrating gaze. "Yeah, Sesshoumaru's my brother, half-brother actually."

"So then you are a Lord. One of the West to be exact."

"I am not a Lord. That is my brother's life, not mine. I gave that up when I... nevermind." He looked at the moon overhead and sighed. "I never expected to hear about him again. I don't really want him to die, he is my brother after all."

"I am waiting for a but in there Inuyasha. I know you and you are not one to beat around the bush."

"Me and him never got along, ever. Saisuke said he has a human girl with him, but I don't believe that. Sesshoumaru hates humans. That's why he didn't like me at all. Because I was tainted with human blood." Inuyasha looked at Miroku, "I'm going back to bed."

Miroku nodded, "Good night then Inuyasha."

Inuyasha walked back to where he had been sitting against the tree. With Tetsusaiga back in his lap Inuyasha dozed off.
