Chapter 12
Koa sat up in his bed and looked out the hall, someone was running through. He saw Kagome pass by and got up. As he looked out he saw her vanish into her room and emerge seconds later with all of her things.
As she ran further down the hall he ran up to his Lord's room. "Where is Kagome going?"
"Yes I was wondering that myself." Kagura appeared behind Koa.
Up on the mantel of the fire place Shinjiru sat there, looking at all of them. "Where is she going my Lord?"
He looked down at the rose, "She's leaving, I let her go."
Koa looked at him, not believing what he had heard.
Shinjiru cocked her head to the side, her large falcon eyes watching their Lord. "Why did you let her go?"
"I had to...I love her." He watched as she left out the gates on one of his horses. A howl forced its way out of his throat and echoed through the dark forest.
They all looked at their Lord in wonder, he loved her. The one person he loved, he let go.
Shinjiru sighed, "I will make sure she returns to her village safely."
A single petal fell from the rose to lay with the others.

When Kagome found Inuyasha he was starting to turn blue and was barely breathing. She got him up onto the horse and rode back to the village.
~*~
He slowly opened his eyes and waited for his vision to clear. There was someone sitting over him, "Kikyo?"
She shook her head, "No it's me."
Inuyasha blinked a few times and stared at Kagome. "How... what?"
"I had to help you, you were in trouble."
Before he could say anything, Kikyo, Sango, Miroku, Shippo, and Kirara came in. Kikyo sat down at his side and smiled at him, "I'm so glad you're okay Inuyasha." She leaned down and kissed him.
Sango watched for Kagome's reaction but was surprised when she smiled at the two.
Miroku sighed, "So how did you escape again Lady Kagome?"
Kagome sighed; she really didn't want to think about it. "Well I really-"
There was knock at the hut door. Kagome answered it, "Yes?"
"Do you remember me?" He smiled charmingly.
She thought hard, he seemed familiar but she couldn't place his face. "I can't say that I do..."
"I wish to ask for your hand Lady Kagome." He bowed low and looked up at her with his red eyes.
Then she remembered, "I remember you!" Kagome frowned, "I am sorry but I'm not interested." She started to close the door, but his hand stopped her.
"Did that monster do something to you?!" He started to step in when he saw who was sitting there, "I know you stayed with the beast... did he try to convince you that he loved you?"
Inuyasha stood up and glared at the man, "What the hell do you want?!"
"I simply wish to know if Kagome fell under the beast's spell." He turned back to her, "He's done it before."
Everything that happened while she was there rose to the surface, "No! He was kind to me."
He looked at her and his jealousy reared, "He'll come back for you!" Turning on his heel, he looked at the gathering that had started, "He will destroy this village to get her back!"
Looks of horror passed over their faces. Several women held their children tighter and said, "Something must be done!"
He smirked and looked back at Kagome, "This can all be stopped if you promise me your hand."
"No. I would never marry you!"
His face twisted in disgust and anger, "Fine then your beast will die." He turned and motioned to several of his henchmen, "Make sure they stay here."
The crowd of villagers followed him as he made his way through the village to the beast's castle. 'You will regret your decision Kagome.'
She watched on, "We have to warn him!" Kagome started out the door when a powerful barrier stopped her. "No!" Summoning up her power she tried to dispel the barrier, but nothing worked.
Inuyasha growled, he didn't like being trapped inside. He pulled the Tetsusaiga and watched as it started to glow red. "Step back." He swung Tetsusaiga back then forward in in arch. The power surged against the barrier, but it didn't break.
Tears formed in Kagome's eyes, she would feel horrible if anything happened to her Lord.
~*~
Shinjiru watched the efforts of Kagome and the hanyou as they tried to escape. What they didn't know was that the three youkai outside the hut were the source of the power. Kill them and the barrier goes down.
She glared at the three. Taking flight Shinjiru tried to distract them, but only made them mad. With a sigh Shinjiru calmed her mind, then with a loud shriek fire formed from her body and raced towards the three youkai.
Angry and pain filled cries echoed through the village.
Finally they fell, dead.
She moved back as she saw Inuyasha lift his sword again. This time the red attack on the barrier shattered it and they emerged from the hut.
Kagome looked at her, "Who are you?"
"I am Shinjiru. My Lord sent me to ensure you made it here safe."
A smile lit her features until her face went dark, "We have to hurry, he's in trouble."
Inuyasha turned to Kikyo, "Stay here, we'll be back." He looked down at Shippo, "You too."
They both nodded and watched them go.
Kagome rode on Inuyasha's back while Sango and Miroku were on Kirara.
All of Kagome's attention was on getting there in time. If she was too late she would never forgive herself.
~*~
He sat in his room looking down at the rose.
Koa came in, "My Lord there are youkai at the front doors. What she we do?"
Kagura stood behind him with Kanna waiting for orders.
"What does it matter? Let them come."
~*~
His smirk darkened as they got past the doors. It was quiet and he anticipated an attack.
Several human men followed behind him with some of his youkai guards as well.
Suddenly attacks came from out of nowhere.
A wolf, Koa, attacked his guards while a dragon attacked the humans. A small feline touched the surface of a puddle and sucked the souls from more humans.
The men started to fear their attackers and retreated. His youkai kept fighting and didn't go down as easily as the humans.
Using his sword he cut his way to the dragon and faced her, "Kagura..." A frown formed and he attacked her, but she was fast in this form.
More youkai surged forward and took over the fight with Kagura. He had more important things to do.
Leaving the fight behind him he worked his way to where he knew the beast would be. He moved cautiously but fast and finally came to the room where the beast was. He pushed the door open and held his sword ready, there the beast sat.
"Fight me."
The Lord looked up but ignored him.
He frowned and his red eyes flashed dangerously. Pulling a dagger from his lower back he brought it to his side and swiftly threw it at him.
A loud growl fell from his lips as searing pain shot through his side. He pulled the dagger out and tossed it to the side.
"You know she begged for her life when I killed her?"
His eyes flashed, surely he didn't mean Kagome?
"No not the miko. Your tiger... she begged and pleaded and even offered herself to me." He smirked darkly.
Anger clouded his eyes and he growled.
"And your miko... she will be mine. I will take great pleasure in teaching her how to please me." A chuckle filled the room.
He launched at the hanyou and roared into his face, "You will not touch Kagome! She is mine!" With little effort he tossed the hanyou out the window and onto the roof of the next building. He followed after him.
A tentacle shot forward but he dodged at the last second and cut through it with his claws. He rushed the hanyou and grabbed his around his neck, "You will pay for your actions and your words hanyou."
With a well placed kick to the beast's stomach he pushed away from the beast and succeeded in knocking the beast over.
"No!"
He looked down and saw her, Kagome was there. "Kagome?"
She rushed inside with her friends following. They got caught up in the fight but she pushed through to get to him.
His eyes hardened and he stood up to face his enemy. "Naraku... today is the day you die." He knocked the hanyou back and swiped at him with his claws.
Naraku looked down, his stomach was bleeding massively and he couldn't even get an attack in. He glared up at the beast and shot several tentacles at him. Some penetrated but he ripped them out before he could poison the beast.
Taking his first serious injuries he stepped back and moved into the shadows of the roof.
He looked around, the beast was no where to be seen. "Did you fall in love with her beast?" He walked forward slowly and swung his sword at any suspicious shadow. "How could someone like her ever love you? A beast?!"
Naraku walked past where he stood and he shot behind the hanyou and grabbed him around his neck. He walked a few steps until Naraku's feet hung over a very deep drop.
He pulled at the beast's claws, "No please. Don't!"
A growl formed in his throat and his eyes darkened, "You deserve to die hanyou."
"No!"
Slowly the anger faded from his mind and he tossed Naraku to the side.
"My Lord?"
He looked up and saw her, "Kagome?"
She smiled and held her hand out.
He started up to the balcony where she stood, "Kagome?"
When he reached her he gave her his hand, "You can back?"
"I had to." She looked into his eyes and smiled. "I missed you."
He leaned in for a kiss when his entire back stiffened in pain. Turning around swiftly he knocked Naraku off of him and down into the endless depths around his palace.
Kagome helped pull him over the balcony and laid him on the ground. She pulled her hand out from behind him and saw the blood mixed with something purple. "No..."
His eyes closed in pain, "He poisoned me..."
"But you'll be fine, you're too strong to..."
He put his hand up to her face, "At least I got to see you one last time..."
Kagura, Koa, Shinjiru, and Kanna had all come up when they felt their Lord's energy shift drastically. The miko's friends were still fighting the last few youkai left.
His hand grew slack and fell to the ground.
Kagome's tears fell without stop, "No... You can't leave me..."
They looked on at their fallen Lord and each held tears. Shinjiru turned her head away and just caught the last petal falling from the rose.
She held him tightly, "I love you..."
Kagome failed to notice the pink glow his body took on. As he started to rise slowly she gasped and finally saw what was happening.
They all watched on in hope as the rose took back all of its petals and went up to land in their Lord's hand.
The rose vanished into his palm and suddenly the fur on his body started to disappear. His hair lengthened and his face turned to that of a man. The rest of his transformation was hidden as his cape wrapped around his body.
The light slowly faded and he descended to the ground.
Kagome stood next to the others and watched as he stood up.
He turned around and faced them.
She gasped, "My Lord?"
He put his hand up to his face and then looked down at his hands.
Koa looked down and noticed that he too was back to his old-self. As were all of his friends. But his attention was on Kagome and his Lord.
Kagome looked up at him, he was still taller than she was. His features had smoothed out and his face held the same markings she had seen on the rest of his body. His hair was no longer a midnight black, it was snow white.
But the thing that amazed her most was his eyes, they weren't brown but a deep gold. She reached up and ran her finger tips over his face and smoothed her hands through his hair.
Koa watched Kagome as she looked at their Lord.
Her brows furrowed, "What is your name?"
Before he could utter a single word a voice was heard behind them.
"Sesshoumaru."
Kagome looked around her Lord and saw Inuyasha there with his sword drawn, "Inuyasha what are you doing?"
"Get away from him Kagome he's dangerous."
She looked up at her Lord, at Sesshoumaru and saw the conflict and hate in his eyes. Taking a step back she said, "What's going on?"
He looked into her eyes, "I am Lord Sesshoumaru of the Western Lands. Inuyasha is my younger half brother."
"Okay..."
Inuyasha stepped between Sesshoumaru and Kagome, "He isn't to be trusted Kagome... he's tried to kill me before just for my sword."
Kagome looked up at him in shock. But looked down when Sesshoumaru didn't try to defend himself, "Take me back to the village Inuyasha."
Without another word he picked her up and leapt down from the castle with Sango and Miroku following him.
Their return to the village was a silent one. Inuyasha didn't know what to say and feared saying anything.
