Chapter 2: Opposites attract.
Kagome was falling. Falling, and screaming her head off.
The air rushed around her body as her midnight hair cascaded around her face. Her screams echoed off the walls around her.
A bright blue flash interrupted her hysteria, but her panic wouldn't process the change in scenery. The ground was coming up on her and she only had one conscious thought.
`Oh kami, oh kami, oh kami! I'm going to break my neck and die! My grandpas going to find me at the bottom of the well, with my brains splattered all over the dirt and wood!' Kagome thought. Alright, so maybe it was more then one thought. The ground came into view and Kagome's screams increased and she closed her eyes as tight as humanly possible.
As she got closer to the ground her body seemed to be slowing and soon her bottom landed gently on the cold dirt. Kagome broke into tears.
“Oh I'm not ready to die! I-I haven't even kissed a boy yet! Momma, grandpa, Sota, gone forever from my life -hic- I mean death.” Kagome sobbed to the well. After a good ten minutes of crying Kagome got a hold of herself.
She stood up brushed off her night gown and whiped away her tears.
`Deep breaths, Kagome,' she thought as she took deep, near-hyperventilating, gulps of air. She could conquer death. All she had to do was fly out of the well. Wait, could dead people fly? Kagome shook her head and grabbed for the ladder, that wasn't there.
“Damnit well!” she yelled and kicked the edge. This only resulted in her hopping around childishly holding her injured toe. She also just noticed she was standing on a pile of vines, and bones.
Kagome shrieked and clung to the vines hanging off the side of the well. Instantly she started to pull herself up and out with the ability of a mad woman.
Mumbling to herself the whole way up about chicken bones, Kagome finally tossed herself over the side of the well.
She landed in fresh, crisp, green grass, right on her tailbone. She gasped in pain and jumped up into a standing position. Rubbing her bruised behind and limping on her aching toe, Kagome got a good look around.
Woods, woods, woods. That was all she saw! Kagome let out a little growl of frustration and a nearby pair of birds chirped and flew off into the distance. She watched their ascending little bodies and noticed something familiar about her surroundings. Death must be taking a turn for the better, she thought.
As she wobbled off towards the edge of the clearing she took a deep breath of the wonderful fresh air. Too bad she was in such a blind panic to actually savor it.
Kagome limped off into the patch of trees to reach the tallest, thickest tree in the wood, the God Tree, the most sacred thing of the Higurashi shrine.
When the huge tree came into view Kagome leaped into the air for a running hug. Tears streaming down her face in obvious relief. On her way she tripped over an up-rooted branch and landed flat on her face with a mouth full of dirt. She came up sputtering and spitting at the base of the tree.
Her hand reached out to grab onto the bark so she could pull herself up. Instead of hard wood her hand met a soft foot.
Kagome instantly jumped back saying how sorry she was.
“Oh I'm so sorry sir I really didn't mean to grab you like that its just that I'm lost and I saw the tree and it's the only thing I could recognize and… and… sir?” Kagome said getting a closer look at the young man on the tree. He wasn't moving, and his eyes weren't open, dead? She couldn't muster up the panic she knew she should be feeling. She settled on looking him over instead.
He wore a bright red outfit that was decorated with growing vines from the tree. His long silver hair flowed with the wind and shimmered in the sunlight shining through the tree branches. His faced look so peaceful Kagome wondered if he was sleeping. His hands had long sharp nails, Kagome noticed as her finger bled with recognition. He was beautiful, she thought with sparkling eyes of an innocent school girl.
But in all his beauty two things were out of place. One, there was an arrow protruding from his chest. And, two furry little dog ears sat on top of his head, the same color as his hair.
Kagome's eyes widened as she stepped onto one of the large roots leading to the boy's body.
“Wow…,” she gasped as she took her bleeding finger out of her mouth and rubbed up and down the furry triangle. As if only just realizing what she was doing she whipped her hand away leaving a bloody streak along the twitching ear.
She looked up at that ear, feeling guilty for spoiling its beauty. Not that she didn't still think it was beautiful, but anyone walking by would notice the flash of red in all the silver glory.
Kagome looked at the boys face. His eyes didn't even flutter as she ran her finger down his cheek. He was so pale and angelic looking. His nose was sharp but handsome and his lips nearly blended in with the white of his lifeless cheeks.
She brushed the bangs away from the boys face as she got a good look. Kagome suddenly wanted to run her hands over his face so she would never forget his beauty. So this is what death had in store for her. Molesting unconscious men. Well… a teen, not yet a man, she thought over looking his face again.
Kagome leaned forward for a closer look at his teeth and as she did her hand hit the arrow in his chest.
A bright pink light illuminated them and the forest. In a puff of smoke the old arrow disappeared, and Kagome slid down the tree taking the boy with her.
She stared completely shocked at the fallen boy. What the heck just happened? Still in an awestruck state Kagome tried to put the boy back on the tree feeling as if she just robbed a grave. As she lifted, a hand shot out and grabbed her straining wrist. Kagome's mouth fell open as the boys eyes shot open in a flash of molten gold.
It shocked her so much that she jumped up with words of an apology on her lips and smacked her head on a low hanging branch.
“Kikyo?” he asked in a raspy voice that sounded unused. Kagome looked up at him puzzled, not understanding what he was saying. One too many hits to the head for this Higurashi. She went to step back and pitched forward instead. Falling was a familiar feeling now.
The grass tickled her nose as she lay there drifting into unconsciousness. The silver-haired Adonis pulled her limp body up by one arm, her eyes were unfocused as she stared up at him. His brow was wrinkled as if he was concentrating hard on something. Her last thought was, “Death isn't so bad after all.”

At the end when Kagome says that death isn't so bad it means she thinks she's dead.
