Prologue
“Bless me Father for I have sinned. It has been nine years since my last confession,” a shy, feminine voice made its way through the wicker confessional screen like a cool wind over a hill leaving a peaceful disturbance in its wake. Pursing her lips and congratulating herself on saying the difficult words, she sighed.
There was no answer, just the shallow sound of a deep breath being inhaled and the low humming of the air conditioner. He could barely make out her figure in the darkness, his violet eyes tracing every curve of the form trying to make a complete image.
“Father? Are you there?” the female voice spoke again, losing the initial drive that had brought her into the room in the first place. The young woman's eyebrow creased in confusion and worry. Why had she even come here? She should have known better than to meddle in religion. The religion that had failed her oh so many times.
“ Ka…Kagome?” the voice sprouted from the other side of the screen, rough like sandpaper, but still in a whispered fashion.
This time it was the young lady who took the sharp intake of air. Her brow creased further in confusion and the onslaught of buried memories resurfacing. She wet her chapped lips with a quick dart of her pink tongue, searching for a response.
“Do I know you sir?” she hesitantly spoke, hoping her thoughts to be completely wrong. There could be no way, in hundred years that this man was…
“Heh, remember that skronny guy you used to hang out with back in Colorado? You know, the kid who used to take you to Steve's Diner for a basket of fries and an iced tea? The guy who took you skiing whenever it snowed two feet of fresh powder?” the priest fondly spoke of memories long since past.
He waited for the woman to recollect his name and welcome him with open arms, but it never came. A ray of light entered the room as the door to the confessional was opened, the mind-numbing creak of the cedar door breaking the awkward silence.
“Murderer,” she whispered before moving in front of the portal. The priest caught a brief glimpse of the shadowed form of the young woman before she closed the door and darkness returned to the room.
“She still can't forgive me can she? Inuyasha, old man, you'll never be right,” he reached for the light switch beside his chair, flipping on the dull florescent lights.
“She'll never forgive me for her death…”
End Prologue!
A/N: So what do you all think? Should I keep it rolling? This was just a taste, a preview, to see if I could pull this off.
