Between Darkness and Light
Chapter 15: Connection of the Mind and Soul
By Cataluna
Sunlight was beginning to filter through the thick red drapery, bringing illumination into the otherwise pitch-black room. Two figured laid in bed with their arms wrapped so tightly around each other; it was as though they were combined into one. Flickers of light danced across the male's face, stirring him from his sleep. He tightened his hold on the girl and flung his right arm over his face to shield himself from the intruding beam. His mouth twisted into a scowl in annoyance.
Finally deciding that this was one battle he could not possibly hope to win, Inuyasha's eyes fluttered open. It had been a long while since he had slept so much or dreamt about something other than blood and gore. Now, Kagome and only Kagome awaited him there, smiling, with her arms wide open to welcome him into her embrace.
Spots of various colors swirled before his eyes. He blinked slowly into focus, and looked down at the soft bundle of warmth and curves lying next to him. Her thick raven mane spread out over the pillow and onto his shoulder, her small hands flexing on his bare chest, trying to draw herself in closer to his warmth. Careful not to wake her, he withdrew his arm from underneath her, and stretched out his well-rested muscles. He smiled as she continued to remain soundly asleep next to him.
Inuyasha gently swept a piece of hair that was shielding a part of her face from his view, and raised himself up partially by using his elbow so that his face was right above hers. He wanted to be the first thing she sees every morning. It was a routine that he had gotten used to and grew very fond of since that night at the beach. The past two weeks had been a period of changes and healing. Kagome had decided to move in with him until the end of the summer. Inuyasha was beginning to doubt that he would be able to give up sleeping next to her every night when the time comes.
He loved having Kagome with him. Though at the beginning, he had to adjust to his previous living habits, such as what he was wearing or "not wearing" to bed, and the girly things that she brought with her to his apartment.

He pulled the shower curtain open. His eyes widened in horror at the sight before him. "What the fuck is all this?" There were bottles of all different shapes and sizes lined up in a row along the rim of his normally clutter-free bathtub.
Kagome giggled, and grabbed more items from her huge yellow backpack. "Oh, just some hair products," she said casually.
He picked up a few random bottles. "Clarifying, deep intensifying treatment, extra vitamin… " He never knew that there were so many different types of conditioner. All he needed was two in one shampoo and conditioner, and a bar of soap. Arching one of his thick brows at her, "You really need all these?"
"Of course." She made a big show of releasing her hair from the ponytail, as though she was in some sort of shampoo commercial. Striking a seductive pose by the door, "How else do you think my hair got to be this soft and silky?"
Unable to resist, he reached out to run his hand gently through her long tresses. He loved the feel of it, but he wasn't about to give up this perfect opportunity to tease her. His lips curled down to a disapproving frown. Rubbing his chin in a thoughtful manner, "Hmm… straw-like and stringy, maybe you're wasting you- oomph."
She drew her fist back from his stomach. "You're just jealous cause your hair isn't as nice as mine." She hopped on to the bathroom counter and folded her arms across her chest. Her normally full lips looking even poutier than usual.
He chuckled and stood in front of her. Since she was sitting down, they were at eye level with each other. "Come on Kagome… you know I was just kidding. I love the rough feel of your hair." He kissed her forehead, "And the wrinkles on your forehead." Moving on to her nose, "And your that big snout of yours… and those pale, thin lips… " His lips lightly glazed against hers, instantly turning her pout into a smile.
She locked her arms around his neck, and wrapped one leg around his waist. "I still need more convincing," before leaning back on the counter and pulling him down with her.
~ End Flashback ~
That would forever be one of his favorite memories, even though he ended up having to replacing the bottles that got broken, and extras… Now there were even more of those "fragrance things." He was grateful that at least the bathroom was not cluttered with cosmetic, since she was a natural beauty and did not wear much make up other than some flavored lip-glosses. He smiled as he recalled trying and tasting each and everyone of them from her lips.
For someone who strived on irregularity and inconsistency, Inuyasha found that he was completely happy and content with just existing when he was with her. Things as simple as eating or watching TV together was exciting. His keen eyes took in everything she did, everything she said, and committed them to memory. His every thought… every breath was filled with her.
Even the process of watching her fall asleep fascinated him. The rise and fall of her chest becoming longer in intervals with each breath. The sound of her heartbeat slowing down in his ears. Her lips curling into a small smile… the small sighs of contentment… the way her long eyelashes rested softly over the top of her cheeks, hiding her eyes… He would watch her until he was finally lured into a deep slumber by the comfort of her scent and the soft sound of her breathing. Sometimes he would fight off the urge to close his eyes just so he could spend the entire night watching over her with a total sense of astonishment, wondering how in the world did he ever get to be so lucky.
He was like a child who was just starting to learn about life, to care about another person's well being more than his own He knew right then and there that he would die for her in a heartbeat with only the regret of never being able to hold her again.

Her sleep-heavy eyes opened to the vision of two amber orbs staring down at her.
He grinned. "Hey."
"Hey." This was her favorite part of the day, to begin each morning under the shelter of his caring gaze. Her hand reached up to lightly touch the side of his rough unshaven face, seeing her reflection in his gleaming eyes.
He clasped her small hand and leaned eagerly into her tender caress.
They slept in the same bed every night, intimate in more of a spiritual sense than physical. Trusting him so fully that she allowed him to see her vulnerability, tears and uncertainties. He would hold her protectively while she cried, giving her assurances. Her nightmares had become a rarity, and she was no longer consumed by grieve. It would be a lie to say that she no longer blamed herself for Sota's death, but at least she was working through it, with Inuyasha by her side. "It's not fair you know…"
The corners of his mouth turned slightly upward and eyes crinkled with amusement. "What's not fair?" He slid her hand down to his mouth, and kissed the center of her palm.
"You always wake up before me." She found that no matter how early she decided to get up, he would always be awakened before her. "For once I want to watch you when you're asleep, and see you when your eyes first open."
"Keh, I don't need much sleep… and I'm just not as lazy as you."
She hit him playfully.
Smirking devilishly, "Or weak."
Her eyes narrowed at his arrogant comment. Using a move he had taught her earlier this week, Kagome managed to flip him over so that she was straddling his stomach. Pressing down on his chest to hold him flat, "Now who's weak?"
Inuyasha circled around her waist and suddenly, she was the one staring up at the ceiling and the expression of triumph on his face. He smiled smugly down at her, keeping her still with the heavy weight of his body. "See I knew it was a good idea to save a few tricks for myself. Speaking of … " His hands left her waist and began to move slowly over her body.
Her face reddened when she realized where he was wandering to and how they were positioned, with her legs spreading wider then they should. His hands… oh god his hands. It felt so good that it hurts. She had to bit the inside of her cheeks hard to prevent herself from crying out loud as a pool of heat spread from her lower stomach.
He nipped gently along the line of her jaw, then licked at the spot to sooth it. His mouth left a trail of markings wherever it went, proclaiming her as his, only his. With his teeth, he pulled one of the straps of her nightgown down, baring her shoulder and the upper portion of her chest to his hunger.
Kagome trembled as the feel of his hot breath mixed with the cool morning air. The tips of her fingers dug deeper into his muscles on his shoulders at the feel of his lips venturing closer and closer to the peak of her aching flesh. "Inuyasha, please…" she begged, not quite sure what she was asking for, just more of his touch… his lips.
His mouth curled into a satisfied smirk against her skin, before pulling back to look down at her flushed face. "Please what?"
She squeezed her thighs even tighter around the sides of his hip in response. "I-I don't know… just more…" She wanted to run away and hide as his eyes darkened at her demand.
"Like I just said before, you're weak-"
She grabbed one of the pillows and threw it as hard as she could at him; the red on her face was no longer caused by pure embarrassment alone. "You arrogant jerk!"
He fell to the floor with a loud thud from the impact.
She pulled her nightgown back in place and stomped into the bathroom, ignoring the bewildered look on Inuyasha's face.

Kagome looked at her watch, and quickened her steps. Her high heels echoed loudly on the pavement in the street. She was already half an hour late. The sun had just disappeared from view behind the numerous buildings reaching up towards the pink sky. Among them, the tallest skyscraper and the nearest place to heaven was the Tokyo Tower, where she was supposed to meet Inuyasha for dinner tonight.
She had come out from her long morning shower, feeling much calmer and more clearheaded. She was ready to make up, only to find that he was nowhere in sight. On the bed was a single white rose with a note attached to it.

Kagome,
Please don't be mad. Wear something nice and meet
me at the top of Tokyo Tower for dinner at seven.
Inuyasha

It was the closest thing to an actual apology from him. Though he did not exactly said he was sorry for being a bastard, it still brought a smile to her face. And a small part of her was glad he had stopped when he did… she still did not know if she was ready to take the next step with him.
Tonight would mark their first actual date. That was the reason why she was running so late. She wanted to look extra special for this occasion. Her hair now flowed in soft curls down her back. And the dress… well it was a bit revealing, for it looked more like lingerie from a Victoria's Secret catalog. It was scarlet red, his favorite color, with a v-shaped neckline lined with lace.
She froze in mid-step as a familiar but unwelcome feeling crawled up her spine. `Oh crap, not now,' her trained eyes instantly searching through the darkness for the culprit. `I don't have time for this… I'm late enough already.' The street was strangely quiet at this hour of the evening. The awakening of streetlamps only served as a tool to further deepen some of the shadows around her.
"Hello Kagome. You're looking beautiful tonight." A man with his hair tied up into a ponytail and startling blue eyes stepped out from the shade.
"Kouga!"
"But then you're always been beautiful," his eyes traveled appreciatively over the length of her body.
Her face reddened at his compliment. She crossed her arms across her chest, wishing that she had brought her jacket with her despite the warm weather. He was the same as ever, outspoken and arrogant, except he seemed even more high and mighty than before. Still, it was her duty to protect no matter how much of a jerk he could be. "You shouldn't be here."
"Why not?" he cocked his head in amusement and leaned against the brick wall.
She let out a deep breath of air that she had been holding since he had first spoken. "It's not safe."
He threw his head back and let out a roaring laugh as though it was the funniest thing he had ever heard, while she watched helplessly with absolute confusion at his unexpected reaction. The laughter finally died down. He straightened up and resumed his previous position. "That's funny, I was about to tell you the same thing, woman," his voice was chilling, completely void of emotion.
She nodded, at the same time scolding herself for being such an idiot. Her right hand tensed, slowly reaching for the stake strapped to the side of her thigh.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you," he warned, his eyes flickered from her face then to her hand.
Kagome stopped what she was doing and ran her hand through her hair. Smiling, "Do what?" She continued to play innocent with him, while shifting her body into position. `If he messes up my dress… `
He sighed, and shook his head in disappointment. "I know who you are Kagome… more like what you really are. You think I'll be stupid enough to confront you alone?"
The jolts shocked through her body intensely, even worse than it had in that fight against Kagura. She fell to her knees cursing, her nails crawled at the concrete floor, embedding a dark trail of blood into its crevices. She looked up to see that the deserted street was now lit with eerie glows. It "almost" seemed pretty if she had been oblivious to what they were, what they represented.
They circled her completely, forming a wall of flesh around her, laughing, and whispering. The smell of her blood excited them. "That's a tasty looking girl. Please let us eat her too!" one of them dared to ask. "Yea! I heard that slayer blood is powerful," another joined in.
Kouga growled at their remarks and punched the first guy in the face. "This girl ain't food. Anyone who eats her will die."
They nodded dumbly in unison at their leader. "Then why are we keeping her?"
"She's going to be my woman… my dark queen. Then our group would be invincible, " he stated in a "matter of fact" tone.
Snaring, "How many times do I have to tell you that I am not your woman, and never will be." She pushed herself off the floor, and drew out her stake.
He opened his fist and blew a fine mist of powder in her face. "You don't have a choice."
`Inuyasha…' she thought before blacking out.

`Where the fuck is that bitch?' With his money and connection, he was able to reserve a private room at the top floor of the Tokyo Tower Restaurant. She was already half an hour late. He loosened his tie and took worried sip from his scotch glass. `Is she still mad at me?'
It was not at all in his intention to make her mad or embarrass her this morning. He had taken things too far, further than what she was ready for, even though she was practically begging for more. It seemed like a good idea at the time… to cool things down and ruin the mood by being a jerk. He just did not think she would get that angry with him.
`I'll make it up to you Kagome… I promise-' The glass he was holding suddenly slipped from his hand. It shattered upon impact, spilling the liquid on the hardwood floor.
`Kagome!'

A/N: I know that the imagery of Naraku having sex w/ anyone left a really bad aftertaste in your mouth, so this chapter (full of fluffiness and all) is to make up for it. I know it's kinda short, but it's better than nothing, right?
*Sigh*, school is looming around the corner. I'm afraid updates will have to be twice or even once a month. I've updated my user profile again; go check it out if you want to see what stories I've been working on.
