Chapter 1
Inuyasha slowly opened his eyes trying to see past the blur of smoke rising from what was left of the hood of the car. He winced in pain as he tried to pry himself from the driver's seat of the car, the steering wheel pressed firmly against his chest. Inuyasha looked at his reflection in the side mirror, noticing the large gash on his forehead. He realized his head must have hit the windshield once he saw the large crack in the glass in front of him. Inuyasha may have been hanyou but he wasn't invincible. True if Inuyasha had been just human, he may not have even been alive. "Aaahhh!" he pushed the steering wheel, bending the steering column finally freeing himself from the car. With everything that was going through his mind, and his head injury, he opened the door stumbling to the ground. Inuyasha just laid there holding his throbbing head as he lay there on the cold concrete. After a few minutes and the realization that someone would come by and find him laying there, the car totally wrecked. He mustered up all the strength he could find to get out of there as fast as he could. The last thing he needed was someone to take him to the hospital. Inuyasha pulled himself together the best he could and got up from the ground taking off as quickly as she could in the direction of the only person he trusted with his life . . . the only person he trusted to help him.
After a few minutes of running nonstop, Inuyasha busted through the front door stumbling about.
"Miroku . . . " Inuyasha mumbled before his eyes rolled shut and he collapsed onto the floor.
Miroku and Sango were in shock as they hurried from the couch to his side.
"Oh my God, Inuyasha! Miroku we have to get him some help" Sango stated with worry.
Miroku checked Inuyasha's vitals and was relieved that he was breathing and seemed ok despite his appearance.
"I think all he needs is to rest now Sango. You forget he's not exactly human. We can't just stroll into the hospital with him without a lot of questions and problems. Let's just get him into bed so he can rest" Miroku suggested.
Sango figuring that Miroku knew better than anyone what Inuyasha needed and nodded in agreement and helped him to carry Inuyasha to the spare room.
"I'm going to get some bandages and clean up that wound on his forehead" Sango said once they got him comfortably in bed, leaving the room to get the supplies.
Miroku watched his friend as he lay there unconscious, wondering what he had gotten himself into this time, what had he done to end up in the shape he was in.
"Wake up soon buddy. You gotta tell me what happened to you" Miroku whispered half to himself.

Kagome sat on the edge of the bed next to her cousin, holding her as she calmed down, the tears in Rin's eyes finally subsiding.
"It's ok Rin. You're safe now. Naraku won't find you here" Kagome said reassuringly.
"But you're wrong, he will find me. He will never let me go that easy Kagome."
"I will never let him hurt you again, you know that don't you."
"That's really sweet of you to say, but I don't think it will be that easy. Naraku is a very rich, very powerful man. He's probably looking for me now as we speak."
"He doesn't have the right to treat you this way and expect you to take it and be happy. He put his hands on you Rin" Kagome said angrily.
"But he says he loves me . . . " Rin replied.
"There is a difference between love and control. He doesn't love you Rin . . . he wants to control you. He knows that your heart is so huge that you're willing to over look his ways, but you can't let him do that anymore. I'm so glad that you've taken the first step in realizing you can do so much better than that. You deserve someone who really loves you and would never do anything to harm you."
Rin sighed and nodded knowing that what Kagome said made perfect sense.
"Now . . . let's go get some make up for that eye" Kagome smiled taking Rin's hand as her cell phone rang.
"Hello" Kagome answered her phone quickly.
"Kagome you need to get to Miroku's quick" Sango spoke excitedly.
"Isn't it your place too? I thought you moved in already."
"Yeah, but that's not what I'm thinking about at the moment. It's Inuyasha" Sango sounded a bit uneasy.
"Inuyasha . . . is he alright?" Kagome said her voice boiling over with panic.
"I think he's ok. He looks like he got banged up pretty bad. Miroku and I aren't sure what happened to him though. He just showed up and passed out . . . " Sango trying to explain what she knew about what was going on with Inuyasha but before she could finish Kagome interrupted.
"Don't worry . . . I'll be there in a minute" Kagome said before snapping her phone shut and rambling around for her house keys. "Rin we've gotta go."
"Inuyasha . . . is he ok?" Rin asked only hearing Kagome's part of the conversation but it was obvious that something was going on with her boyfriend.
"I'm not sure. He's been hurt" Kagome said as they were rushing out the front door and down the block to the taxi stand.
They hopped in a cab, Kagome staring out the window watching the buildings and houses go by as she thought 'I'll be there in a minute Inuyasha . . . ‘
When they arrived Kagome frantically knocked at the door anxious to get on the other side. Sango opened the door embracing her friend tightly figuring it's what she needed at the time. Then she saw Rin and hugged her as well, getting a good look at her eye.
"Oh my goodness, Rin, what happened to your eye?"
"It's a long story Sango" Rin said as she and Kagome walked into the apartment.
Rin sat on the couch with Sango filling her in on what's been going on with her while Kagome made her way to the bedroom where she found Miroku sitting in a chair watching Inuyasha as he lay there. Miroku looked up at Kagome and got up to offer her the seat next to the bed.
"Miroku . . . what happened to him?" Kagome asked as she sat down next to the bed.
"I'm not really sure, but Inuyasha will be fine" Miroku said as he leaned against the wall. "I've seen him worse" Miroku said matter-of-factly.
Kagome looked over at her hanyou resting in the bed. She noticed the large bandage on his forehead, leaning over to kiss him on the side of it.
"Inuyasha . . . I'm here. You have to wake up now and tell me what happened to you" Kagome said softly.
Inuyasha slowly opened his eyes blinking a few times before he spoke.
"Kagome . . . " he answered her.
"Yeah it's me. You're hurt Inuyasha. What happened to you?" Kagome asked awaiting his response.
"I had just come from your house and I got a call on my cell phone. I wasn't paying attention and totaled the car. I left it where it was and came right here."
Kagome was still quite confused. "So did anyone else get hurt?" She asked trying to get more information about what happened.
Inuyasha wasn't sure he wanted to get into what the call was about but he knew he would have to tell her eventually anyway. Inuyasha sat up in the bed getting comfortable against the pillows Sango put under his head while he was resting. He took a deep breath before he began to speak again.
"No . . . no one else got hurt. Just me . . . I caused the accident all on my own. It was the phone call . . . " Inuyasha took another deep breath before continuing. "It was Hojo. He had news about Kikyo."
Kagome had a puzzled look on her face. "News about Kikyo?"
"Yeah, Hojo said that . . . " Inuyasha paused looking at Miroku then at Kagome.
"It's ok . . . just tell us what Hojo told you. She is ok, isn't she? She's not hurt?" Kagome asked actually genuinely concerned.
"No, she isn't hurt . . . she's . . . she's pregnant" Inuyasha said softly and lowered his head.
"Oh . . . I see" Kagome replied still unsure of why Kikyo being pregnant had caused Inuyasha to be distracted.
"Yeah . . . but the thing is . . . I mean the baby could be . . . " Inuyasha tried to get the words out, lowering his head even more, his voice trailing off.
Inuyasha didn't even have to finish for Miroku and Kagome to figure out what he was saying. Kagome's eyes widened, the look on here face was unreadable. Miroku was speechless. He didn't really know what to say. He looked at Inuyasha and the look on his face and then back at Kagome and her look.
"I need some fresh air . . . " Kagome said rather emotionless before she got up and left the room. Miroku tried to stop her and talk to her but Inuyasha shook his head and Miroku let her leave.
"It's ok Miroku . . . let her go" Inuyasha said sadly.
The last thing he wanted was to hurt Kagome, but he couldn't help what was happening and he couldn't help Kagome for feeling the way she was . . . however that was. He figured she was just as upset and confused as he was. Now that they were finally together and more than just friends, things went and got all complicated for them. Kagome ran out the door past Rin and Sango on the couch despite the fact that they were calling her name. When they finally caught up to her, she was crying and out of breath.
"Kagome . . . what's wrong. Did you hear us calling you?" Sango asked as she too caught her breath worried about her best friend.
"Why is this happening right now? Why now?" Kagome sobbed softly holding onto Sango's shoulder.
Sango wrapped her arms around her friend and comforted her as they stood outside in front of the apartment building. Rin was totally in the dark about what was going on, her problems no longer the focus at that very moment. She put her hand up to Kagome's back rubbing it trying to help console her shaken up cousin.
"Just tell us what's wrong Kagome. What's got you so upset? We want to help you" Rin asked hoping that Kagome would open up to them. She had never seen her cousin this upset before.
"I...Its Kikyo . . . she's . . . pregnant. It could be Inuyasha's baby" Kagome grabbed a hold of Sango's blouse a little tighter. "What does that mean for Inuyasha and me? I know I probably sound selfish but . . . we are just getting where we needed and wanted to be . . . and now Kikyo's back in the picture again. I know that Inuyasha would be a terrific father, but Kikyo will want more than that from him. We all know that she really isn't over Inuyasha. Kikyo is going to do everything in her power to make Inuyasha hers again. And being the nice guy he is . . . he would probably do whatever he felt was right for Kikyo because he would feel like he owed her that, for the baby. I just can't stand the thought of losing him when I just really got him" she cried a bit more, wetting the sleeve on Sango's shirt.
"Just relax . . . take a deep breath and relax. Kikyo doesn't even know who the father of her baby is remember? It could be Hojo's baby and even if it isn't, Inuyasha loves 'you'. I don't think anything that anyone says or does can ever change that. I know that you two have been through a lot lately but as long as you love each other, you will be just fine" Sango said reassuringly with a smile, giving her friend a gentle squeeze hugging her.
Kagome relaxed a bit wiping the tears from her face and smiled faintly realizing that Sango was right and she was overreacting.
"Now, let's get back upstairs shall we. Inuyasha was hurt today and he needs his girl by his side" Sango led Kagome back into the building, Rin following close behind as they made their way back to the apartment.
------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------
Inuyasha lay back on the pillow holding his forehead in his hands closing his eyes.
"This is so messed up Miroku. I mean, if I'm the father of Kikyo's child of course I'm going to be there for my kid. But then again, you know Kikyo and she's going to use the kid to torture Kagome."
Miroku nodded in agreement to Inuyasha's statement. "That may be true but you love Kagome and she loves you. You can't let anything Kikyo says or does change that" Miroku replied with a smile.
"You're right . . . no matter what happens, my feelings for Kagome will never change" Inuyasha lowered his hands from his head and relaxed a bit.
"It will all be ok" Miroku reassured his friend as they heard the girls come back through the front door.
Kagome walked to the doorway and smiled at Miroku. "Do you think we could have a minute?" she asked him.
"Sure thing Kagome" Miroku smiled patting Kagome on the shoulder and left going into the living room with Rin and Sango.
Kagome slowly made her way to the chair next to the bed. She sat down and gently took Inuyasha's hand in hers. Kagome sighed as she looked into Inuyasha's eyes, his eyes giving off that he was confused and scared dreading the words that would come from Kagome's lips.
"Inuyasha . . . I'm sorry . . . for the way I reacted to what you told me. The situation can't be helped. No matter what happens; I'm here for you and I always will be" Kagome rubbed his hand as she spoke.
"Kagome, you just don't know how happy I am to hear that. I was so worried that you'd hate me and never want to speak to me again" Inuyasha replied.
"How could I ever hate you? Inuyasha I could never hate you. Besides what happened between you and Kikyo was before me. I can't blame you for what has already happened. I'm going to focus on the future and as long as you know that I want to spend it by your side that's all that matters to me" she smiled at him.
Inuyasha smiled back and reached out taking her up into his arms, sitting her in his lap, holding her close and tight to him. Inuyasha looked down at Kagome's warm smile and gently moved closer capturing her lips with his own with a silent reassurance that everything would be ok. They were sitting there in each others arms when someone knocked on the door. Inuyasha looked at Kagome and she nodded that it was ok now. Inuyasha gave her a quick kiss on the lips and smiled before he answered.
"Yeah?!" Inuyasha shouted in his usually irritated fashion.
Miroku slowly cracked the door open, his head the only thing peeking through the door. "I don't mean to disturb you guys, but we were just going to get something to eat. Did you guys want me to bring something back?"
Kagome then remembered that Rin was also out their waiting for her to come out. After all, Rin had problems that she needed help with as well and now Kagome's problem didn't seem like a problem at all.
"Oh Inuyasha, I almost forgot that my cousin is here...remember the one I told you about. She's sitting in the front room with Sango waiting on me to come out there" Kagome got up from Inuyasha's lap and turned around to address him.
"Oh she's here? Great! That means I get to meet her then" Inuyasha said easing up out of the bed himself.
"Inuyasha, maybe you should lay back down" Kagome said not certain if he was rested enough after the accident to be ready to go out.
"I'm fine Kagome . . . trust me I've been worse" he chuckled as he stood on his feet. "How about we just go get something to eat now . . . I'm starving" Inuyasha said holding his stomach as it growled.
In the living room Rin and Sango were already standing and ready to leave.
"Inuyasha, you're coming too?" Sango said surprised to see Inuyasha up and about after witnessing him passing out at the front door not to long ago.
"I promise I'm fine. I'm just really hungry now, but I'll just blame it on all the energy I exerted running here" he replied to Sango's question.
"Oh I almost forgot, Inuyasha, this is my cousin Rin. Rin, this is my boyfriend Inuyasha" Kagome said introducing the two of them.
"It's nice to finally meet you Rin. Kagome has told me a lot about you" Inuyasha held out his hand for Rin to shake.
Rin looked up, her hair moving from over her eye exposing the black eye that was slightly peeking through the make up she had on. Maybe if Inuyasha didn't see as well as the others, he wouldn't have noticed it but he did. Someone had hit her.
"It's very nice to meet you too Inuyasha. Kagome has talked a lot about you" she smiled sweetly.
Inuyasha wanted to ask what happened to her but figured if she was trying to hide it then maybe she didn't want everyone to know.
"Well lets get going shall we" Miroku interrupted grabbing Sango's hand heading toward the door.
The rest of the group followed them out the door to get something to eat.
------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
He sat at his desk working on some important documents, but he couldn't concentrate. All he could think about was her. He looked over at her picture on his desk; his eyes were cold and calculating. He was outraged that Rin had left him. No one leaves him . . . he is Naraku Tenoh; the most powerful man in Tokyo. He sat at his desk as he thought, trying to figure out where Rin could have gone to.
'All I've done is love her and take care of her and this is the thanks I get? I love her, way too much to just let her walk out of my life. She'll always be mine forever' Naraku thought to himself as his assistant walked in with news about Rin.
"Its good news I hope?" Naraku looked up at him with a glare.
"Yes sir, sources say that Ms. Hanabishi was seen in her cousin's hometown in the U.S. She arrived there today" the guy said matter-of-factly.
"Great! Now I know where to find her" Naraku smiled almost evilly.
"Would you like us to retrieve her sir?"
"No need, I'll go to get her personally. I want to make sure she realizes how serious this is. Did she really think she could just up and leave me like that?" Naraku slammed his fist on the large wooden executive desk to make his point. "Just have the jet ready this weekend. I have some business to take care of first then I'm going there on Friday to bring her back."
"Very well sir" his assistant walked off and out of the office.
'Soon . . . very soon Rin my love' he thought and chuckled to himself, and with a wicked smirk on his face he went back to his work.
