Chapter Two
Everyone else finds out….
Early the next morning, grandpa and Souta were listening in on Kagome and Katsuki’s conversation. “Huh? Kagome’s a miko and a demon? I’m a demon too? Grandpa, are you a demon? I want answers.” Souta whispered, his eyes as wide as saucers.
“Yes, you are a demon Souta. You are the same kind as Kagome, but you don’t have holy powers. You also need to be aware that Kagome is not your sister by blood, but she is still part of our family, no matter what. Your mother is my daughter and your father was a monk named Kenshiro. He was a powerful monk, but you didn’t receive his gifts. We thought you would be like Kagome, but you ended up just like your mother.” Grandpa whispered, knowing full well that his grandson was disappointed.
“Shoot. I hoped I was a demon that had holy powers. That would be so cool!! You would have the best of both worlds!!” Souta replied in an excited whisper.
“You have to deal with the hand you have been dealt, my musuko. You can’t always be what you want.” said Katsuki.
“What are you doing here?” Souta and Grandpa asked, as they jumped back in surprise. “I am here to tell you that we should go to the kitchen, make breakfast and act like Souta didn’t hear anything and doesn’t know anything about Kagome being a miko and a demon. Kagome will be leaving for good this time, so Souta will have to stay in his room and act like he is sleeping. Kagome will leave you a letter telling you the things she couldn’t say to your face.” Katsuki said softly.
“Ok, I’ll go back to bed now mom.” Souta said dejectedly. “I really want to say goodbye to Kagome though. I’ll miss her!!! She would most likely say that I‘m a gaki and don‘t touch her room.” he whined.
“I know you will miss her Souta, but she has to go. She wouldn‘t say that Souta. She loves you, even if you can get annoying sometimes.” Katsuki declared. “Now, it’s time to get to work!”
Katsuki had just finished cooking Kagome’s favorite breakfast of miso soup, eggs, and bacon when she heard Kagome moving around upstairs.
Kagome got out of bed. She could smell something very good and knew breakfast was ready. She decided that she would run her tongue over her teeth to see if she had fangs. “Itai!!” yelped Kagome. She had cut her tongue on her fangs. ‘Just my luck.’ She thought, but quickly stopped to stare at herself in the mirror. ‘Oh my kami! Is that me?’ Kagome wondered as she looked at herself in the mirror. Kagome’s eyes grew wide as she glanced at her hair and tail. Both held the color of silver with bluish-black streaks through it. Her eyes were the color of dark sapphire with tiny little silver specks and she could tell that she had grown a bit taller. Over all, she was very pleased with how she turned out.
Kagome had a lot of trouble trying to find an outfit that would fit her. When she realized that she had absolutely nothing to wear, she allowed a tiny growl to slip forth and threw on her robe. She walked down the stairs and went into the kitchen. Katsuki had heard her come down the stairs and fixed a plate for Kagome. She watched as her niece sat down and then placed the plate in front of the new demoness. She shook her head as she watched Kagome eat. The girl’s appetite never ceased to amaze her, and now that she was a demoness, it had only gotten worse.
“After I’m done eating, I will write both Souta and Grandpa a note…I feel so sorry that I have to go, I really don’t want to !!” Kagome whimpered as she looked down at her empty plate.
“You know you have to go Kagome, even though you don’t want to.” Katsuki said as she picked up Kagome’s empty plate. Kagome sighed and grabbed a pen and two pieces of paper.
Kagome chewed on the end of her pen for a moment and then began Souta’s letter. She explained her situation and told him that though they were not brother and sister, he would always be close to her heart. She wrote that no one could ever take his place in her eyes and that she would miss him. She told him that after she is gone, he could go into her room, but deep down, she knew that he would probably leave her room alone out of respect. When she was happy with Souta’s letter, she began to write her grandfather’s.
She told her grandfather that he was the only man in her life that she would ever consider a good role model. He had been more like a father to her and had given her many great memories. She said that she knew that he felt bad about his failing holy powers, but told him that what he lost in powers, he gained in wisdom. She told him that she was grateful for all of the tales that he told her while she was growing up and that many of them had been very useful to her while she was in the feudal era. She finished up her letter by telling both Souta and her grandpa that she loved them and that they would never be far from her thoughts.
When she was done, she handed the letters to Katsuki and asked that she deliver them to Souta and grandpa.
“Katsuki, do you have a kimono for me to wear?” Kagome asked, as she glanced down at her robe. “Yes I do dear, this was with the basket I found you in.” Katsuki replied. “Oooh it’s so pretty. I love the dragon and sakura blossoms!” Kagome said, as she fingered the fine material. When she was dressed, Kagome gathered her most important things and placed them into her yellow backpack. “I hope I didn’t forget anything!!! Oh, this is the last thing I need!” Kagome said as she grabbed up sleeping bag and stuffed it into her yellow backpack.
When she was ready, Kagome decided that she had better leave. “Bye Katsuki!!” Kagome yelled. She did not wait for an answer, and ran to the shrine well door. She opened the door, walked up to the well, and jumped in. When she made it to the other side, she found Inuyasha waiting for her, but when he saw her, he jumped up and grabbed the hilt of his sword. “Who the hell are you, wench?” Inuyasha demanded. “And what the hell did you do with Kagome!!” “I am Kagome, Inuyasha.” Kagome said, a small sigh escaping her lips. “Right, and I am in love with that flea-infested wolf, Kouga. Kagome’s human, you baka!” Inuyasha sneered. “Fine…I didn’t want to do this but osuwari!” Kagome screamed. She grinned as she hear the ‘Thud’ and the cursing that soon followed. “Now do you believe me, Inuyasha?” Kagome asked, her voice soft. “How in the hell did you become a youkai, Kagome?” Inuyasha yelled, his anger getting the best of him. “I won’t tell you until I tell everyone else!” Kagome said.
