Kikyou frowned slightly. “No. Her tongue. Eating a heart gives me a tummy ache.”
Kouga nodded and began to slowly back out of the room, hoping the queen might not try to jump him to prove her ‘heart’ theory.
And he grabbed the fork of the wall on his way out.

Chapter Two: Life Attempt
.
.
.
“This has to go in!” Kagome chirped as she hid a bright orange flower behind a scarlet rose. Turning to one of the plump rabbits watching her flower gathering, she winked. “Its scent gives the person an itchy rash.” Black eyes glittered back at her and Kagome giggled. “And this one will make her feel faint!” The blue eyed woman sang out as she carefully grabbed a green, pink-stripped carnation while holding her breath. “Oh! Here’s one that will give her an appetite for pickled fish gills!”
“And one for an ear ache!”
“This one will make her see clowns!”
.
Cradling the ‘special’ bouquet of flowers for her elder sister, Kagome searched the area for any more specific blooms. Deciding this bunch would cause enough mishaps, the maiden picked a few harmless flowers like roses and daffodils. “I should give her many balloon flowers, since it’s her favorite. Probably because that’s what her name means.” The blue jay perched on the sapling next to her eagerly nodded its head. A few bunnies hopped around her feet as Kagome began to head back towards her home. “I really should be nicer to her,” Kagome mused aloud. “Maybe I should take the violet that will turn her face purple out,” she continued as a few butterflies flittered around her head while they listened.
“I wouldn’t, she deserves much worse,” a masculine voice drawled.
Kagome turned quickly to a rather handsome wolf that sat on a boulder watching her. His ice blue eyes seemed to pierce her and in his left hand he held a crossbow and in his right he held a...Tarnished silver fork.
Oh! Feel the terror!
“May I help you?” Kagome asked politely while still eyeing the eating utensil. ‘It looks like the one that hangs on Kikyou’s wall next to that axe from the ogre...’
“Actually, I think you could,” the wolf told her conversationally as he loaded the pointy object onto his more dangerous weapon.
“Oh?”
“Yes. The queen has ordered your,” he pulled a face as he aimed at her, “tongue.”
Kagome remained calm. “Oh, let me guess. The heart thing?” she asked sweetly.
“Yes, something about a sore throat.”
“You mean tummy ache?” Kagome asked.
“That’s it!” Kouga snapped his fingers in remembrance.
“What’d I do this time?” Kagome asked, still watching the wooden and metal threat in the wolf’s hand.
“‘This time’?” Kouga echoed while looking at what he thought had to be the most gorgeous woman of all time.
“Yeah. When I was four, while we were eating candy, Kikyou tried to push me into the oven...Later on, when I turned eight, she ordered a house be dropped on me...A few years ago she ordered that a group of monkeys be trained to wear fez hats and fly...It never worked, but I have a feeling it was for some way to end my life.” Kagome shrugged.
“Flying, fez hat wearing monkeys?”
“Uh huh.” Kag affirmed dryly.
Kouga lowered the crossbow momentarily distracted while Kagome calmly told him of all the times the queen tried to end her life. “Why?”
Kagome, not at all scared of the good-looking youkai, walked forward a few steps, her woodland friends following her. “The oven deal had to do with me being her ‘reincarnation’ or some other insane sounding thing. The house thing was because I was wearing the Shikon no Tama, her favorite jewel. And the monkeys? Apparently I was wearing her color. I think anyway...I have fuzzy memories of that time.”
“Oh.”
“Well?” Kagome asked.
“Well what?”
“Aren’t you going to kill me?” Kagome questioned calmly, her stormy eyes sparkling.
Kouga eyed the woman up and down. She was wearing a thin light blue kimono, nothing on her feet, and was surrounded by wildlife. Birds and butterflies were above her head. Rabbits and mice crowded around her feet. She looked like a myth. Like she’d just simply stepped out of a fairytale. “Nope,” he got up swiftly and stalked over to her, throwing the weapon aside.
“Kikyou is going to want her fork back.”
“Kagome,” Kouga ignored her statement and swept her up into his arms. “As my woman, I promise to protect you.”
What...
...The...
...Hell?!
Kagome had never even met this guy before! He’d been ordered to come and kill her. She could deal with that. But you really shouldn’t mess with the crazies. Kag began to untangle herself from the wolf’s arms. “Um...You do that. I think I’m going to just go...and...”
“I’ll bring her some other thing’s tongue.” Kouga told her. Kagome backed away slowly. “Kagome? Lets go,” Kouga turned on his heal.
While the young man had his back to her, Kagome exchanged a look with the fawn near her right elbow. “I think we should get out of here.” The golden fawn looked back at her with deep brown eyes.‘Hmmm, let me get this straight...’ Her sister wanted her life again. But this time, the queen wasn’t a child, and Kikyou could do it if she set her mind to it. All Kikyou needed was a plan and Kagome’s tongue would end up on the dinner menu. With Kikyou older and smarter...
‘Lets try that again,’ Kagome reversed her thoughts and restarted. With Kikyou older, Kagome had less of a chance of getting away. Kag just needed to stay away for a short time till Kikyou calmed down again and it was safe to come home. A night ought to do it. In reality, Kikyou made attempts on her sister’s life often and for small reasons so Kagome had learned that she needed to only get away for awhile and she’d be safe. So why was Kagome eagerly running now?
Because wolf demons ran really fast.
.
---
.
“...And then we’ll have lots of pups and live...happily...ever...Kagome?” Kouga turned around to find his ‘love’ long gone. “Oh well, she probably needed to think over the wedding plans.” Kouga mused. Walking happily away, whistling a lighthearted tune, the wolf cut down a nearby boar and took its tongue. ‘This oughta work...would Queen really be able to tell the difference?’
.
---
.
“Mmmm...tongue...the other, other, other white meat,” Kikyou drawled happily as she dug into the steaming hunk of mussel. Holding her precious silver fork she said to the empty room, except for her white, snake like, demon friends, “Grandma would be proud of this fork! It helped her favorite granddaughter.” Her calm, emotionless voice rang out while her eyes remained just as dull.
Of course Kikyou left out the fact that she was the only granddaughter.
Taking a sip out of a glass, a thought flashed by her mind. ‘What is it with this water? That well must be enchanted or something to produce such good water...’
.
---
.
Kagome scurried through the woods. A while back, as the sun began to set, she had accidentally left the trail and was now lost among the trees. Not a good thing, in her mind. Long ago the birds had left to feed their families, the rabbits had lagged behind, the butterflies had stayed with the flowers, and the deer had become bored and left.
She was all alone...
...unless...
...You counted the red eyes that glowed and watched her from the shadows.
A shiver ran through the girl. Now that was creepy. “SHIT!” Oops. Kagome tripped over a stuck up root that was hidden beneath a layer of plants and went sprawling forward...
...And to the side...
...And off of a small cliff...
...And onto the hard ground.
“Ouch,” Kagome commented while sitting up. Deeming it safe after glancing around, the bruised female rubbed her aching derrière. Her nose twitching, she watched the surrounding trees. It was dark and the trees seemed oddly dark and bent. Leaves rattled and she could feel the eyes on her again. As desperation and stupidity took hold Kagome began to make out jagged, open, taunt mouths and gaunt, empty eyes in the trunks of the demented trees. Creaking and groaning rang out through the deserted woods and a heavy footstep sounded behind her. Kagome’s eyes widened and she turned sharply around to face the new threat. Her azure eyes widened and her mouth opened wide as sound began to show her surprise and shock as she...
...
...
Laughed.
.

.
The tiny fire neko cocked her delicate, creamy, furry head to one side and her blood red eyes watched the woman in front of her. The demon cat tentatively took a step forward and eyed the stranger. Kagome bent down and began to lovingly stroke the cat’s feather soft fur with gentle fingers. “Awww,” she cooed to the feline in front of her.
“Mew?”
“Oh I’m fine. I was expecting a bear or something, but you’re much more pleasantly welcomed.”
“Mew?”
“No...well...actually...yes. I am lost. But it doesn’t matter. I have no where to go for awhile. I need a place to stay for a short time. Know any good ones?”
“Mew.”
“Oh good, lead the way, please." Kagome whole heatedly followed the sure-footed feline. She’d always gotten along with all animals, whether demon or regular. ‘Although I do enjoy the company of any animal, I prefer cats. We get along pretty well. I’m glad I met this one, she seems friendly.’
Shortly after setting out after the white cat with black markings, Kagome began to feel tired. Although she was fit, her slim body couldn’t handle much. Her petite form was soon sore from travel and Kagome panted from exhaustion.
“Mew.”
“Good. I’m wore out, I’m glad we’re close.” Many may find it strange that she talked to animals. But what was even stranger was that she actually understood them. “My name’s Kagome, by the way. Yours?”
“Mew.”
“Kirara? Pretty, I like it. Glad to meet you Kirara.”
“Mew.”
“Thanks! I have good manners probably from growing up in a castle.”
“Mew?”
“I’m a princess...and a maid...and a runaway...”
“Mew?”
“You’re right. You can’t be a maid and a princess. Let me correct myself, I was a princess and now I'm a maid.”
“Mew.”
“Don’t worry. I don’t mind. Too many princesses are stuck up and they cant do anything themselves. Being stripped of my title doesn’t bother me one bit.” Kirara walked forward a few paces before pausing and sitting back on her haunches. Tilting her head slightly, Kagome got the meaning.
She was supposed to go through the trees alone.
Well...here it goes.
In front stood a wide grassy clearing with a gentle spring running through. In the center was what looked like a humble stone and wooden cottage, yet was two stories tall and quite large. The full moon gave enough light in the open clearing for Kag to get a good look. Perfect. “Thank you Kirara. Are you sure I can stay here?”
“Mew.”
“That’s good. I wouldn’t want to intrude.” Lightly walking forward, the girl knocked on the wooden door. Getting no answer she walked in and found...
...The place dusty and unkempt even though it was obvious that people currently lived there. “Slobs...” Kagome murmured as she skipped an immediate tour and found the stairs. Upstairs was a large room with seven large beds but seven tiny pillows and blankets. A single candle was attached to the wall and Kagome took it down to use as the only lighting. With a good sweep of the arm, the flickering light cast upon the foot- boards of the beds and Kagome gasped. Taking a few bare steps forward to get a better look at the writing that was on the wood at the bottom of the beds, she read aloud.
“Happy.”
“Grumpy.”
“Sneezy.”
“Dopey.”
“Sleepy.”
“Bashful.”
“Doc.”
“My, my, what funny names,” Kagome clapped in delight. Giggling in merriment she turned to her furry feline friend to add...“They’re mothers' must have had an appetite for adjectives rather than odd foods!”
.
---
.
Kikyou elegantly swept up the spiral stairs of her tower. A slight smile graced her lips as the rest of her face held its stoic pose. Kouga had returned with her baby stepsister’s tongue...She had eaten it...Without Kagome, Kikyou would now be the most beautiful maiden of all...And with that beauty, she would steal Inuyasha’s heart!
But not to eat. She was rather affectionate toward her stomach....
“Looking glass, looking glass, on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?” she asked, knowing the answer, as soon as she opened the door.
Kanna appeared immediately and Kikyou could almost swear she saw a ghost of a smile on the mirror youkai’s face.
.
"---Kagome is alive, she has foiled your plot,
She still holds the beauty that you have sought.---"
.
Oh yeah, Kanna was enjoying this.
“What?”
“Oh never mind,” the queen answered herself. “I’ll deal with sweet Kag- chan after I finish my main priority. Getting Inuyasha’s love. He doesn’t know of my sister’s beauty, so I can secure our relationship before I take Kagome’s life.” A smirk appeared on Kanna’s face and she quickly quoted before disappearing:
.
"---Kikyou, Kikyou, you are plain as a board!
You’ll never get that jerk of a lord!---"
.
Kikyou was left fuming in the middle of her bedroom, new plots of killing her sibling forming in her irritated mind.

A/N: How is this story going? Please review so I know.
In case readers of this have never seen my other story, Dashed Hopes, then I’ll say it again.
My views on Kikyou: I rather liked the original Kikyou, before she died because she was a kind and caring priestess. But in her clay pot form, I wished she’d just die! After her death Kikyou becomes twisted and no longer the girl she once was. So, I like and don’t like her. Understand?
Ja ne!
