It was all a blur that night. Horrible screams that I still can't forget sliced through the blood tainted atmosphere of my home. Red dripped from the walls and made pools on the hardwood floor as lifeless bodies crumpled, bloody rag dolls decorating the ground.
And I…I huddled in a dark corner, trying to block out the sounds and sights displayed before me. With my bloodstained dress, I covered my ears and closed my eyes.
These others, these monsters had attacked us. With their sharp teeth and scarlet eyes, they barged into our home and began their killing spree.
I didn't understand it. I didn't understand why they were doing this, why they were hurting my family…hurting me.
Pictures were painted on what were now dirtied walls and our main room was littered with dead bodies. I almost choked, suffocated because the stench was so horrible. I heard a loud thump in front of me and felt a whoosh of stuffy air fly into my face. Opening my eyes, I stared at Mama's lifeless body as the last of her tears fell from her now dull sapphire orbs. I screamed and could have sworn the whole palace shook. All heads turned toward me and I saw the malicious grins widen on those demonic faces as they now slowly made their way in my direction.
I remember spotting my father as he was thrown to the floor, a bloody mess. He saw me and I saw the glint of unshed tears in the rapidly dimming light as our attackers jumped on him, ripping him from my sight…forever.
Someone had picked me up and they were running, running away from my now bloody home, with me in tow. I had glanced at my mother and abruptly noticed two small holes in her neck and the blood that dribbled from them. Vampires? I am still, even now, unsure if they truly do exist.
Blurred by never-ending tears, I heard the echo of these demons declare their triumph but the palace exploded then, with my father's anguished laughter ringing through the air.
I was ten.
I've learned to forget it but sometimes it resurfaces and I again begin choking.
…
Fast forward 12 years…
"Kagome…earth to Kagome?!" Sango waved a hand in front of her friend's eyes, trying to get her attention.
Kagome jerked away, startled and blinked her eyes, trying to refocus.
"Are you okay?"
"Y-yeah, I'm fine."
"You sure?"
"Of course." Kagome replied with a smile.
"You know what, why don't you go home and get some sleep. It's 2 a.m. and you could use the shuteye. I'll be home later."
Kagome looked hesitantly at Sango, unsure if she should leave or not. "But-"
"No buts Kag, go already will ya!" She shoved her to the backroom and pointed at the exit.
"You'll be okay then?" Kagome asked finally.
"Yes, now go."
Heaving one last sigh, she grabbed her coat and walked out the door.
It was a cold winter morning as Kagome walked down the deserted streets of Yokohama, Japan. Hugging her coat closer to her body, she continued on in the darkness with the neon stars staring down.
Having lived here for nine years, she sometimes grew tired of this place. Sure, she had been to Tokyo and Nagoya, even to the Okinawa Island but still, it didn't satisfy her lust for something new, for something different and adventurous. Her foster family lived in Sapporo so she couldn't visit them often. It was depressing to even think about it. She heaved a sigh and mumbled to herself, "Cheer up Kagome, there's something out there waiting for you, I know it." With that thought in mind, her mood lightened up a bit as she continued on.
But as she walked, she felt tiny pricks move along her back. She swerved her head around to see if she was being followed but nothing was there. Increasing her speed, Kagome made her way home. But as soon as she relaxed, a scream pierced the velvet sky followed by the breaking of glass. She whipped around and stopped, straining to hear more. It didn't sound that close but not far either.
"Just go home Kag." She told herself. "Just go home." But as she turned back around, a tingling sensation ran down her back, making her uneasy and slightly afraid.
Having reached her apartment door, she fumbled with her keys and dropped them in the effort. She bent down and picked them up just as dark shadows passed across the hallway walls. Quickly finding the right key, Kagome jammed it into the lock, turned and ran inside, roughly slamming the door behind her. She leaned against the wall, trying to calm her frantic nerves and hard breaths. "You're losing it Kagome. You see what not enough sleep does to you?" She scolded herself as she turned on the lights in the kitchen and set her keys and bag down on the counter. Kicking off her shoes, she went into the bathroom and turned the shower on. She glanced at herself in the mirror, "Yeah, who would care enough to follow you around?"
…
It was 6 a.m. and Sango still wasn't back from the club. Kagome paced back and forth filled with worry. She was never out this late and if she was, she would always call. Kagome punched in the club's number for the hundredth time that morning and all that she received was a busy signal.
She had a gnawing feeling that this wasn't good. Grabbing her keys, she flew out the door and headed towards the club.
…
Grabbing the doorknob of the backdoor that led to the inside, Kagome entered. It was quiet, as it always was in the morning but much too dark. Usually a couple of curtains were open to allow light in.
"Sango! Are you here?!" she yelled out. There was no answer. She tried again but still nothing. Kagome made her way onto the dance floor and heard something rustle in the corner. She whipped around and stared blindly in the darkness.
"Sango?" She stepped closer only to slip on something and come crashing down, taking the curtain with her. Kagome swerved her eyes to the front of her after she heard a sharp hiss and saw something launch itself at her. She quickly scrambled out of the way, clumsily crawling on all fours. Her arms slipped on that same slippery substance and hearing the harsh tapping of nails on the floor, she flipped around, propping herself on her elbows as she watched horrified at the monster coming towards her, carefully avoiding the lighted areas. Kagome, instincts now taking over, rolled out of the way and pulled down the other curtain, shedding even more light into the room just as the demon was going to pounce on her. She watched as this male monster convulsed in mid air and evaporated into dust.
Kagome shook uncontrollably, standing up and now discovering what that slippery substance was. Blood. And she was covered in it. Resisting the urge to vomit, she brokenly took little steps forward and gazed around at the bodies littering the floor, illuminated by the sunlight streaming in through the clear glass windows.
"Sango…"
She stumbled over to her body, her mind a haze as she tried to wake up from this horrible dream. "Wake up now, please, oh god please wake up!" she screamed at herself.
But the thing was, from the way her heart ached and her head throbbed, it wasn't a dream but a horrible reality. She flipped the dead body over and stared at Sango's lifeless eyes. But her eyes didn't linger long on her friend's and soon they were locked onto the two fairly small holes in her neck. She furrowed her brows in confusion and looked over Sango's body again. She'd been sucked dry.
With their sharp teeth and scarlet eyes, they barged into our home and began their killing spree…I had glanced at my mother and suddenly noticed two small holes in her neck and the blood that dribbled from them. Vampires?
Kagome backed up only to kick another dead body. She realized that it was her boss, Koro. Breathing came like rapid waves and her profuse shaking got worse. She then heard a sudden rustle in the adjoining soundproofed room, which was used for private engagements. Fearing there were more she bolted out of the club leaving a blood trail behind her.
It was happening all over again…
The ground suddenly quaked beneath her and thunder roared from the east. Kagome stopped and turned around, watching as the sky turned from a bright blue to a quickly darkening shade of gray…
"He's made the wish." Ban said as he stood in the doorway of the club, surveying the approaching darkness.
"We'll be able to roam freely now, no sunlight, no restrictions…"

A/N: Yes, yes, long time no write nor update. I know the least you wanted from me was a new fic. But I couldn't help it. I had inspiration for something new and this was the result (and plus, watching a lot of vampire movies sort of contributed). Spent a lot of time on this chapter, about a month and a half, just organizing and getting my thoughts together. It's so much harder when you actually sit down and start typing. Ah well, the many tribulations of an aspiring author.
On a different note, I wanted to thank everyone for still sticking with me even though I have given nothing in return these past months. I'm still receiving reviews for TL and it still absolutely amazes me that I am. Regarding that fic, I will continue it but I have to do a lot of editing cause I'm not happy with where it's heading. I probably will take it down and start all over with it. We'll see how long that takes me and if school will ever allow me to have the time, it's turning out to be a pain in the rear behind.
