Prologue

(I don't own Inuyasha)

Inuyasha stirred slightly, prying his eyes open. Blood was caked over his right eye, making it impossible to see from, and his left eye was blood shot, and he strained to keep it open.

He tried to sit up, but a sharp pain in his abdomen made him recline back to the hard, dry dirt below him. He brought his clawed hands to the wound, and raised them to his face, so he could see the evidence of his scar on his hands. He knew he was losing a lot of blood, and even a Hanyo could only endure so much of this bleeding. He struggled to look around where he was, but everything was a blurred shadow, and he knew his vision was failing.

He tried to call out for help, but his voice caught in his throat, and he coughed roughly, as the red poured out of his mouth. His throat was strangely dry, despite the fact that it was lined with blood. He cursed his situation in his head profusely.

Inuyasha could barely remember what had happened before. Everything seemed to glob together like the blood that was slowly pooling from his abdomen. He could hardly remember who he was, or what he was doing here. But then a stunning vision flooded his clouded mind. It was a girl, the most beautiful girl Inuyasha had ever seen. Her hair was long and dark, her eyes a glossy brown, so full of life and hope. He searched his mind for more about her, and he remembered a vivid smile, and a loving laugh. Who was this girl?

Before Inuyasha could plumb the depths of his thoughts further, a nearby noise caused him to snap back into reality. There was a long pause, and Inuyasha strained to listen through the sound of his pounding heart in his ears. Then just like before, there was a rustling in the underbrush that was closer to him than he felt comfortable with. He strained his eyes against the blur of the forest around him and landed on a distinctive silhouette. He knew that whatever that was did not belong in this forest.
