Sango sighed as she petted the sleeping Shippou next to her. Miroku had woken earlier and was currently speaking to Kaede and even Myouga, about where Inuyasha and Kagome might be. She knew if she were to ask him that same question, he would return to his hentai state, mentioning things like, "Well, Sango, I can think of one or two places they could be, but what they're DOING, now THAT'S what I want to know."

She rolled her eyes as she thought about the perverted monk. Although when they returned he would seem to be calm and in control, until he knew what had become of his friends Miroku would worry silently to himself. Casting a glance at the kitsune and fire-cat sleeping on the sleeping bag usually reserved for Kagome, the exterminator stood and stretched her tired muscles. They weren't tired from working, but from worrying. She had stayed up long after the others had fallen asleep. Well, all but Miroku, who had told her to get some sleep.

She walked outside to breathe the fresh morning air, to catch a glimpse of red flying over the treetops towards them. Hurriedly, she called into the hut behind her, "Inuyasha's back" before racing to meet him. And, as she suspected, when he landed a sleeping Kagome could be seen sprawled on his back, obviously wearing nothing but the hanyou's haori. He was blushing slightly from the looks the others were giving him in regards to the mostly-naked miko, but simply said "Feh" before walking into the hut with the sleeping priestess.

Inuyasha returned moments later, Kagome now being held in his arms, along with the strap of her yellow bag. Silently, he made his way over to Sango and held out her surrogate sister to her. With a nod, the demon huntress slid her hands underneath Kagome in order to support her, making sure to slide her arm through the strap of the monstrous pack in order to carry it as well. After one last death glare sent in the houshi's direction, along with a threat on organs which would make it so that he NEVER had to ask a woman to bear his child again, Sango made her way to the closest hot spring, intent on waking her friend and finding out what happened, along with getting her clean.

Miroku, however, gave his hanyou companion a sly glance before moving to clap him on the back. "It's about time, Inuyasha! I knew you had it in you!! So, do I get to name the first-born?" Said hanyou began to growl, and Miroku laughed at him before becoming completely serious. "What happened after you left? Here's Tetsusaiga, by the way." The monk held out the katana, which had been taken from the ground before they returned to Kaede's the night before. After Inuyasha had replaced the sword in it's sheath, Miroku repeated his question in hopes of getting an answer.

"I don't know, okay? I was a demon. All I really remember is getting pissed at Kikyou, then shoving Tetsusaiga into the ground. And even that's kind of blurry. When I woke up this morning, my mouth tasted messed up, and I was naked, okay?" Miroku stared, wide-eyed, at his usually silent friend. "Now that I've told you what I know, tell me what you know."

With a nod, the monk began. "After you left Tetsusaiga with us, you went after Kikyou. Killed her pretty dead, too. I mean, she was dead already, but now she's DEAD dead. There's a pile of dirt and bones to prove it. Kaede went out there a few moments ago to take the remains of her sister and put them back where they belong. But in any case, after you killed Kikyou in your full-youkai form, you came over to us and commanded for us to give you Kagome. When Sango refused, you BIT her. Don't look at me like that, you did!" Inuyasha continued to stare at the pervert, who merely shrugged. "You bit her on the back of the neck, and Shippou said that it was a hold used by pack leaders to their pack members. So we trusted you enough to let you take Kagome. And Myouga said that Tetsusaiga didn't stop you, since it didn't see you as a threat to the young lady."

`One of these days,' Miroku mused, `a fly is going to end up buzzing into that mouth.' And sure enough, Inuyasha's mouth was still hanging open in shock. But not for long, since a sleepy kitsune had awoken, hearing people talk and smelling a pair of VERY familiar scents.

"Where's Kagome!!! She better not be hurt!! If you hurt her, I'll - huh??" The kit began to sniff at Inuyasha, a little towards his mouth, which the hanyou prayed didn't smell like the blood he had tasted in it when he woke up, or anything else, for that matter. Then the kit sniffed his way down to Inuyasha's shoulder, where the white kimono covered the bite mark Kagome left on him. All of a sudden, the fox wrinkled his nose and looked up to ask Inuyasha a question, but was stopped when the hanyou glared him into silence. This scene, of course, got Miroku's attention; so finally, Inuyasha just gave up and pulled the shirt away from his neck, exposing the spot where Kagome had bitten him.

Sango smiled at her blushing friend, who was trying to tell her what had happened without going into too much detail. So far, after telling Sango about how she woke up with him leaning over her wound in full-demon form and that she'd healed herself, she'd been able to get out, "Then, he… um, well, he… uh…" She couldn't help it anymore; the demon exterminator began to laugh.

"Um, Kagome, we'll just say that that bite mark on your shoulder explains everything." Now Kagome's face began to turn even darker, and she looked in surprise at her friend. "What? I was raised killing demons. By now I should have learned a lot, but there are still some things even I don't know. That's why Shippou's here. But I do know one thing. Some of the hardest demons to kill are those in human form. And then, those with marks like the one you have were the toughest of them all. Finally, we figured it out. They attacked in pairs, one male, one female, both with the mark, and they seemed to be very protective of each other. They would only go into a demon rage if the other was destroyed. Because it was their mate. And I'm guessing that you're now Inuyasha's mate, right?"

Kagome merely nodded in stupefied disbelief at the huntress. "What, did you think I was all fight and no brains? I'm hurt, Kagome." She smiled lovingly at her adopted younger sister. "Honestly, though, Kagome, tell me, are you just his mate, or is he your mate, too? Did you mark him like that?"

Still blushing, Kagome nodded and reached up to touch where Inuyasha had bitten her. "He bit me last night," she whispered. "And I bit him back this morning. Although, Sango, how could my teeth break through his skin? I was half expecting not to, but it was easier than I thought." Sango merely nodded wisely and leaned back to rinse her hair.

"You see, Kagome, part of the whole mating/marking thing, is that it transfers some of his strength to you, and vice versa. I don't know what it'll give him, but it's apparent you've gotten some of his physical strength. What else you two will end up sharing through that link is beyond me. I only know that from the stories I've heard." Squeezing the excess water from her hair, Sango decided to go ahead and take Kagome back to the others, as she knew Shippou would be up and about and wanting his mother-figure, and Miroku would most likely pleading for his life at Inuyasha's hands.

"But… But… That means… you… and… Kagome…" Shippou was having a tough time accepting the fact that the inu-hanyou had, indeed, mated with his surrogate mother. What made it so unbelievable was probably the fact that since he would be considered his mother's mate, that would make Inuyasha… HIS FATHER!! That alone was enough to make the kitsune want to run to Kagome screaming for her to tell him it wasn't true. He seemed more like an older brother than a FATHER.

The moment she came into view, Shippou did just that, and ran straight to her and launched himself into her arms, almost knocking her over when he collided with her chest. But even there, with her stroking his back softly and whispering to him soothingly, he wasn't reassured, since he could smell the blood and when he moved the collar of her odd kimono over a little, he could see the place where Inuyasha had sunk his fangs into her skin, claiming her.

"Kagome?" "Hm?" Shippou looked up into the young miko's face, wondering how he should word it. But it was all taken care of when Inuyasha walked over and picked up the fox by the tail.

"Yeah, brat, it IS true. Get over it." Inuyasha glared at the youkai trying to scramble back to the priestess. He knew the kitsune considered Kagome his mother, but he still felt slightly jealous. After all, HE was her mate, and yet, Shippou was getting all the attention. Then he remembered one of the reasons he had REALLY needed to talk to Kagome. He had to warn her. "Hey, Kagome." When she looked at him curiously, now cradling the shocked Shippou in her arms, whom she had retrieved after she had pried his claws loose from around the pup's tail, he tilted his head in the direction of the well. "I need to talk to you, come on."

He turned and walked off immediately, knowing she would be following him in seconds. As predicted, he heard soft footfalls behind him, crunching over the grass and any fallen leaves, only moments later. When they reached the well that had first brought her to this time, he sat down beside it and placed his hands in his sleeves. He watched as Kagome plopped down next to him, no doubt wondering what was wrong. In reassurance, he slid his left arm from his sleeve and wrapped it around her shoulders, pulling her closer. When she relaxed against him, he began.

"Hey Kagome, there's only one problem I've noticed so far about you being my mate." She bolted up to sit ramrod straight and look about ready to cry. The tears always got to him, and he hurriedly tried to keep her from crying. "NO, NO, NOTHING LIKE THAT!!" She merely raised an eyebrow for him to continue, and he sighed.

"Youkai have rules, that's the problem. I don't want to become full youkai sometime and you get punished by me- er, him. That's all. I wanted to tell you what those rules were, so you could keep from being hurt by me if I turn full-demon again." Finally, she calmed and relaxed against him again, and he wrapped his arm around her shoulders again. "Like for example, my youkai self would want you to do whatever he says, whenever he says. He would consider himself the leader of the pack, I guess, and would want everyone to listen to him."

She nodded and looped her arms around his waist, leaning against him until he finally simply picked her up and placed her in his lap, wrapping both arms around her to secure her there. "What else?" He looked at her when she asked that, surprised she was so accepting. `Then again,' he thought dryly, `it IS for her safety…'

Sighing, he continued. "If I change in the middle of a fight, then he'll expect you to fight, too. I know you already do, with your arrows, but if you stop, for any reason, then he'll get mad. I mean, ANY reason." She opened her mouth to ask a question, but he cut her off. "I mean, if Sango, Miroku, Shippou, and Kirara are all unconscious, you can't stop and heal them unless my demon side is completely preoccupied. Or at least if he thinks he's winning. Otherwise, he'll accuse you of failing to help out the pack, even if it was just you and him. You see, he'll have to choose between helping the others, and hoping the other demon doesn't kill him, or killing the demon first and THEN worrying about everyone else. The only person I can see him becoming distracted for is you, and that's because you're my mate now…" He smiled and leaned forward, moving her shirt collar aside far enough to kiss his mark, brushing his tongue lightly against it.

Shivering, Kagome felt his arms tighten around her as he tongue continued to move over the bite he had made to claim her. "Is that all the rules?" She felt his hair brush against her shoulders as he shook his head, lifting his lips from her skin long enough to murmur, "There's one more." She tried to turn her head to look at him curiously, only to have to stop to keep from smacking her chin into his head. "Well, what is it?"

He looked at her almost worriedly. "Punishment. A punishment is to be given ONLY if deserved. And then, it's only if the pack leader decides they deserve it. I don't do it, but he would think he could. And if you try to "sit" him for something he sees as stupid, or pointless, well… I don't think he'll be happy. I don't know what his punishments are, and I hope to never find out." She nodded her assent and tried to cuddle closer to him, only to end up basically wriggling around on his lap. A soft growl came from her hanyou mate, and she turned to see him looking at her as though she were a lavish dessert (or in his case, a bowl of Ramen), and he was a man who had just come off of a week's fast of water and bread.

"Come on," he growled softly as he stood, pulling her up with him, "If I'm going to take you to visit your family, we had better go soon." She realized when he pulled her up what had happened. And now, she was smiling and blushing slightly. Smiling because she could have that kind of effect on him, blushing because she liked being ABLE to have that kind of effect on him.

Casting him what could only be called a smug grin, she leapt into the well before he could catch her.

Aw, I know, no lemon… But, hey, maybe next chapter!! After all, it's obvious what he's thinking, ne?

AND NOW!! I have been DYING to write this somewhere, and I think it would make you laugh!! From a book I got yesterday, and finished last night. (actually this morning… 6 pm- 3 am, with breaks)

"What harm was there in a little kiss? Besides, they were on a plane, for heaven's sake - how far could it go?

Had she known the answer to that in advance, she would have scrambled across the aisle and sealed tape over her mouth. Duct tape. Several layers. Maybe taped her thighs together for good measure." - "The Dark Highlander", by Karen Marie Moning (I love all her books… I'm odd, I know…)
