Ch. 10 Night of the New Moon

Kagome woke up a couple hours later, fully rested. Yet again, the young miko found herself dressed in a red haori, her clothes nearby. `He must have gone back for my shirt and bra,' she mused. Sitting up, she looked around for her hanyou mate, wondering where he went. As she searched the area, she realized that the sun had begun to set, and that there was no moon in the sky. Now she was worried. He would be a human soon, and she had no clue as to where he was. Then she realized something else. `Oh no!! I forgot my bag at home!!'

Hurriedly, Kagome leapt up and took off the haori long enough to put her bra back on, wishing her panties hadn't been sliced up. `Oh well, at least on me, this works as a kimono.' With a soft sigh, she began to look for something to show Inuyasha where she went in case she came back. The only things she could find where her ruined clothes, which weren't much help, unless…

Smiling, she laid her shirt out in a straight line, rolled up to keep it from confusing him. Then she took the poor skirt and used it to form an arrow, pointing in the direction of the well. She looked over her handiwork proudly before turning and walking off in the direction of home, trying to keep the fire-rat armor closed, and hoping it didn't open in front of her family… she could just imagine trying to explain THAT to them!! They knew that she and Inuyasha had become mates, but they didn't exactly know about the whole lovemaking part… She had kind of forgotten to mention it… Okay, so she didn't want to tell them, too late to change it now.

She began to run towards the well, hoping to be able to go back, get her bag and some new clothes, then return back to the clearing before Inuyasha came after her, worried. Although, she had to admit, she wondered where the half-demon was, and what he was doing.

When she arrived at the well, she was shocked to see a certain hanyou standing next to it, lifting up her yellow bag into his arms. He turned his head in her direction and smiled, no doubt at the sight of the huge jacket draped over her body. She returned the smile, actually blushing for once, and then realized what he had been doing.

"You went back to my time for my bag?" He smirked and nodded. The sight of her in front of him, trying to hold the haori closed as she stepped towards him making him almost forget what he had worried over earlier. When he had woken, he had remembered the clothing left next to the well and had immediately run to get it before her family found it, and before the sun set fully. After setting her clothes by her, he had noticed the lack of the giant yellow bag she was usually seen with, and had returned for it, embarrassedly explaining to her mother that the reason he had returned instead of Kagome was because she was sleeping. He hadn't told her why she was sleeping, or why he was blushing, but he was pretty sure her mother could tell, if the look she gave him was any indication.

Then he felt it. He senses were rapidly fading away, including his strength, and he looked down at his hands holding the monstrous yellow pack, only to watch as his claws retracted and weakened, becoming human nails. Muttering darkly, making sure to call the new moon night every dirty word he'd ever learned, he wondered how Kagome would react to it. He knew Kikyou had liked the idea of him being human, though she had never seen him as one, but Kagome was NOT like Kikyou, he knew that now. She loved him, the hanyou. She accepted him as he was, and even seemed to not mind about rutting with his demon self. Looking up at her nervously, he was surprised to see her smile still shining brightly at him.

She came over to him and kissed his cheek lightly before taking her bag from him and slipping her arms through the straps and resting it on her back. She reached out and took his hand, leading him back to the village for the night.

"Come on, I'm sure the others are wondering where we are." Inuyasha tried not to laugh.

"I doubt Miroku's really wondering. He probably has his own guesses, and will make sure to ask when we get there. And Shippou's still trying to get used to the idea of me being his mother's mate, but I'm pretty sure he knows what we were doing, too. After all, he may be a kid, but he IS a demon. We had to learn these things at a young age." As soon as the word `Mother' had left his mouth, he remembered what he had wanted to ask her, about having ery female in heat we come across." He grinned. "Although I think Sesshoumaru may have taken his lessons too seriously. He needs a mate."

Kagome smiled and leaned against him slightly. "Well, who knows? Maybe when Rin gets older. She IS a human, after all. So, maybe when she's the right age, Sesshoumaru might like her then. He already cares for her more than anyone else, that I can tell, at least."

Inuyasha just stared at her in shock. He hadn't really thought of it that way. He thought Sesshoumaru would have just continued to see her as an adopted pup, like Shippou was to him. `Pups…' With a sigh, he hurriedly built up his courage before she could ask another question. He was afraid that if he didn't ask soon, he wouldn't be able to later. She'd be too busy talking to Sango and the others to be pulled aside and asked a question like that.

"Hey, Kagome?" `Please don't let her be mad, or disgusted, or anything…'

"Yeah, Inuyasha?" She looked at him, her smile melting away to reveal the curiosity in her eyes and the serious mouth. She knew that this was important, though he didn't know how.

"Um… I was wondering… uh… What would you do, if… um…" When she grinned at his nervousness, he felt himself begin to blush again. `Dammit, what is it with me and blushing today?!' "Well, I was just wondering what you'd do if we, um…" His voice lowered to where she could barely make out his next words. "Had pups."

She was shocked. He was asking her about having pups with him?? Having kids?? And what she'd do? What did he mean by that? So, she gave him the obvious answer. "I'd love them, Inuyasha."

He looked at her, and she could tell he was nervous, and even afraid… How she could tell, she didn't know, she just was looking at him, and feeling as though he was afraid of her response for some reason. When he spoke again, her questions were answered.

"Even if they were ead back to the village, his mate beside him.
