Blood Sun; Sickle Moon
Chapter One.
Kagome laughed softly, bowing lightly to her dance partner. "Thank you for the dance," she smiled at the young man brightly.
"No my Lady... I must say that the pleasure was all mine." He bowed to her deeply, smiling just as brightly as her, before turning to walk back amongst the crowd.
Kagome, her self turned the opposite direction, in search of some light sake, to cool her thirst. "Let me help you with that." Kagome spun around in shock at the sudden voice pointed toward her.
"Lord Sesshomaru!" A light blush covered Kagome's cheeks, dusting them with light pink. "I didn't know that you would have attended this type of ball... Not that I don't want you here!" Kagome rushed out the last part, realizing that her statement could have easily made him assaulted. Instead, Sesshomaru shook his head lightly, waving it off with a flick of his graceful wrist.
"No that's quite all right. It's true, a single's ball doesn't soot my fancies very much, but I had some business with your father." He handed her a white porcelain cup that fit into her palm easily, with a painting of roses, and other wild flowers, filled with light sake. While, he himself reached for something stronger.
"Really? I don't recall my father saying anything about that." Sesshomaru smirked.
"Does your father often subside secrets within you?" Kagome calmly sipped from her cup.
"As eldest... And my brother passed ten years ago, I'm line to heir the lands. My father wishes to bring me up ladylike as much as possible, but at the same time, a fine worrier and leader."
"A wise choice," Sesshomaru whispered softly, though Kagome heard him clear enough.
"What is your business with my father... If that is all right for me to ask?"
"It's perfectly fine. Your father sent me a messenger with a letter, telling my of his worries of the current rush of youkai immigrants into his land, along with mine."
"Ah, yes," Kagome nodded fully understanding now. "For some odd reason, it seems that the whole population of youkai even hanyou's that lived in the north, and south lands is moving into our two lands. My father fears that our lands resources shall be used to the point of exhaustion." Sesshomaru nodded once, in agreement.
"Ah! Sesshomaru!" A deep voice said coming to them. Kagome looked to her left and smiled up at her father. He too was dressed in red, with black armor, with a dusty red sun also on his forehead. He also, had hair like his daughters, though Kagome's had more slight curls in her hair. Kagome looked much like her father though had a pure feminine beauty to her. "Kagome," Lord Yamazaki smiled brightly and lovingly to his daughter. "Please, my child, I wish for a word with Sesshomaru in privet." Kagome bowed deeply to the two male youkai.
"Of course, Father. My lord." Sesshomaru also bowed to Kagome.
"Until later, Lady Kagome." Kagome smiled up at Sesshomaru before walking off, light sake in her hand.
"So I take it you have received my messages?"
"Yes both of them. I was just talking to young Lady Kagome about the first one."
"Yes, yes... A matter that needs fixing right away, but right now I'm more worried about the first second message I sent you."
"So you have noticed my keen to young Lady Kagome?"
"I've been friends with your father and you for as long as I can remember. I have long ago seen the changes in emotion in your face when other's can not."
"I will not deny of my feelings toward your daughter to her... And I wish you speak to you in private about it."
"Most certainly. Follow me," Yamazaki grinned up at Sesshomaru, leading him from the ball room, into a private room, having a guard stand at the door, so no eve's dropping would happen. "Now," Yamazaki opened his arms to he empty room, resting against a large desk, before crossing his arms in his bell sleeves of his hoary.
"Yamazaki, I wish to ask you for your daughter, Kagome's, hand." Sesshomaru stood tall, his ballroom clothing swaying softly to the wind, thanks to the open window. Yamazaki studied him heavily; his face businesses like; yet an amused air hung to him.
"You will take good care of her? She will not be used as a plaything..."
"Of course."
"And she shall rule at your side, fight by your side in battles, like I have trained her so. Not locked in a stone room, awaiting your return."
"She shall always by my side in those thoughts, but she will not fight, if with child."
"I would think so," Yamazaki smiled brightly. "I shall give you five months, to at least befriend my daughter." He playfully looked at the position of the moon, with read as 10:30. "Starting now. I suggest you get a move on." Sesshomaru smirked at him, bowing deeply at him, as Yamazaki did as well, before disappearing from the room, his ball cloak, dancing softly behind him, glittering silver in torch light.
Yamazaki chuckled as he watched Sesshomaru leave the room, the guards closing the door behind him. Sesshomaru and Kagome where a fine match. Kagome's handmaids even wanted the match. It would have been only a matter of time, before at least one of the two fell for the other.
It was the same thing for Yamazaki and his dear departed mate. His heart clenched as he thought of her bright smile. He missed her dearly. The most painful fact was the fact that, she hadn't died in his arms in the tragic battle that Yamazaki had told Kagome. She had left him, for another male. His heart burned in fire, as he remembered the beast that stole his mate's heart from him.
Yamazaki shook his head, like doing so would banish them from his thoughts. He stood tall again, brushing the imaginary dirt and wrinkles from his robes, before walking, head tall, toward the doors, pushing them open, and once again joined the ball.

At one, Kagome found her self, being walked to her room, by no other then Lord Sesshoumaru. His sent filled her senses, and all she could think about was him. Thankfully walking to her room she could do without thinking, or she would have found her self lost.
Her arm was wrapped with his, in a gentle way, as he spoke. Kagome carefully listened to his words, yet did not hear half of them. "Oh!" Kagome half moaned as her knee's buckled. Sesshoumaru caught her with no effort, but looked down at her with concern, though his face did not show it for more then a split second.
"Lady Kagome?" he gingerly put his face more towards her, taking a few quick sniffs. Her slight perfumes, and natural sent covered it for the most part, but he still smelled it. It was a wonder why he didn't catch it before. He smirked. "Lady Kagome, I must say...Perhaps you should go for a slightly weaker sake, next time, or perhaps drink slower? I hope it isn't to bold me to say so."
"Stop your tease, Lord Sesshoumaru. I'm perfectly fine," Kagome said using his arm to balance, to walk strait... And to walk, period.
"I have no doubt your brain is. It's just the fact that body seems to have gone to mush!" Sesshoumaru said chuckled slightly, as her knee's let out, yet again. Looking both ways down the corridor, Sesshoumaru picked her up bridal style. Kagome let out a startled gasp, before trying to slap him. But her hand and eye coordination had gone down as well, as missed him.
"How dare you touch me with our permission."
"If you prefer to crawl to your room, where anyone could see you, and your pretty robes would be ruined, go ahead. Perhaps you are just a child after all. But this way, I can get you safely to your room, with out anyone seeing, and for your part, your pride shouldn't be damaged to badly." At that Kagome didn't say anything.
A few moments later Kagome found her self, at her door, Sesshomaru using one hand to open it easily, before shutting it with his foot. He placed her on her bed, knowing her handmaids would be in any minute with help to dress her.
Taking her hand, Sesshomaru placed a soft gentle kiss on her deadly clawed hands. "I say goodnight, my young Lady Kagome." She looked up at Sesshomaru with wonder, his face even more beautiful in the dark.
"Goodnight," Kagome whispered softly, still staring at him in awe. He smirked down at her, before turning around, his robes, cloak, and hair swishing to his pace. At the door he turned, bowing to her, while a smirk still playing his lips, before closing the door.
He turned around, and stared at the handmaids looking up at them. They all instantly bowed low to him. "I need you to do me a favor." Sesshomaru crossed his arms as he looked down at the maids.
"Anything, milord!" the head one said. Sesshomaru recognized her instantly. Her name was Sango. Born a youkai worrier. Yamazaki often hired worriers to be servants for his daughter and son when he was alive. But Sango was a gift from Sesshomaru, himself.
He had found Sango's village in his domain destroyed. Sango, the soul survivor. She was a powerful worrier for a female youkai. A distant youkai cousin of the thunder demon tribe. Sango was Kagome's main body guard, and looked after her every bidding.
"Every one but Sango may go in." The maids looked at Sango curiously, some gave her sly smirking looks, which both Sango and Sesshomaru rolled their eyes too. But the maid's disappeared into their ladies room, without a word.
"What is it Lord Sesshomaru?" Sango asked him, studding his face, though it was fruitless, as there was no expression.
"This you can not breathe a soul too. I have spent enough time knowing that I can trust you with secrets. I have become Kagome's fiancé to say the least. I've asked for her hand, this night."
"Does Kagome know of this?"
"No. Not yet. This is where you come in. I need you to… Talk me up to her, so to speak. I'm on an general relationship now, but I only have 5 months to get her to agree to be mate."
"5 months?" Sango asked surprised. "It's going to be hard milord, but I will do what I can." Sesshomaru nodded, inclining his had toward her, as she bowed deeply.
"Go on then. You can tell Kagome we had this conversation if you must, but no one else." Sesshoumaru turned on his heel, and walked away, leaving Sango by herself in the corridor. She walked into the room, seeing Kagome all ready dressed for sleep, and the others preparing to go to their own rooms for sleep.
"Go! Leave us." Sango said them, before setting on the bed next to Kagome. Kagome smiled up at her.
"What is it Kagome?"
"We saw Sesshomaru exiting your room." Kagome blushed.
"Rumors shall fly, now won't it?"
"No, I shall keep my girls quiet. But where you two up to something?"
"Of course not. He was only walking me to my room, after a fantastic time in the ballroom." Kagome's voice turned to slightly dreamy.
"So you want him as a mate?"
"Isn't that a little bold, Sango? We hardly know each other."
"Forgive my boldness. It wasn't my place. But do like Lord Sesshomaru?"
"What female doesn't? I bet a human women would want Sesshomaru. But if you are asking me if I love him, then I must say now. Like I said. We hardly know each other."
"Naturally my Lady. But it's a fine match."
"Yes. My father would be pleased if I where to mate with someone like Sesshomaru."
"Indeed, my Lady. Lord Sesshomaru is well placed in your father's heart. He was friends with his father, too."
"Yes. My father, along with Sesshomaru's father secured the eastern and western borders together. Our families have all ways had right too it, but up to them, no one had truly secured the lines. It was about the same time, the south and north also secured their lines. But the east and west where all ways strong allies."
"Lord Sesshomaru has a soft place in his heart for you, you know?" Kagome instantly sat up.
"Where did you hear this?"
"From him, himself!" Sango grinned at Kagome's shocked face. "He saved me along with a little human, from two destroyed villages, so I have a strong trust between him and me"
"Yes... I had heard how he saved you... Along with the cute little Rin. Rin in fact looks to him as her father. She even calls him that! But tell me what else did he tell you?" Kagome leaned into the conversation.
"He looks to you as a potential mate!" Sango blurted out bluntly. "In fact, he asked for your hand in binding to your father." Kagome gasped. Blood rushed to her head in shock.
"Me?" Sango laughed.
"Yes, you! You father gave him five months to win your heart."
"So he said yes..." Kagome's head recovering from her slight fog with her demon senses, steadily recovering from it. But with the shock, it seemed the fog doubled it's size, and mass. Sango laughed.
"You Lady Kagome, are fiancé to Lord Sesshomaru. The most powerful and most handsome youkai to walk this earth!"
"I... I can't believe this... I hardly know this inu male!" Kagome said. Instantly Sango's smile dropped, into a deep frown.
"You are not happy with this?"
"Sango. How can I be happy when I don't love him, yet I am to mate with him?"
"Your father gave you five months. And don't forget. Not many females have the chance with Lord Sesshomaru. Do you not realize that Lord Sesshomaru would not have done this, if he did not love you?"
"Love me? How can he love me. He hardly knows me." Sango smiled at her friend hopelessly.
"Do you know realize the many times Sesshomaru stares at your from the boundary lines? How he jumps to talk to you when he can? When he gets grumpy when he seeds or hears you flirting with other males? Or the fact that you all ways see him near when a potential suitor comes to call? Or how about the many times Sesshomaru comes to visit your Lord father and listens carefully to what your father say's about you? And don't forget the times when you where just a child, by what you said your own, about how you, Lord Sesshomaru, and young Lord InuYasha played together when you and their Lord Father's in meetings. And don't forget the time when your Lady mother died, and he instantly came to comfort you in your time of need!"
"But he has no emotion, and cares nothing of the ware-fair of his people," Kagome whispered, her heart slightly melting for the Lord in question as Sango spoke, but still hung to her stubbornness.
"He does have emotion, he doesn't choose to show it, so enemies won't hold anything against him. And he does care for his people, but again he doesn't show it, so enemies won't hold them against him."
"You speak fondly of him Sango. Do you your self, harbor feelings for him?"
"I care for him, like he was my own brother. He saved me, Lady Kagome. I owe him my life. But go to sleep, Lady Kagome. You look pale. It's heavy news I know, but try to sleep. Think of it. You don't realize the opportunity for a perfect life you have." Kagome laid back, her white silken sheets.
"Sango... I all ready have a perfect life."
"Do you really wish to be unmated for the rest of your life? And Lady Kagome... I do not wish to offend you... But even you realize that suitors are starting thin out, as you reject every single one. They all care for you greatly, but not one as you know really 'loves' you. Soon you shall be receiving fat old lords looking for a fifth wife, even 7th. And your world shall crumble. In the very least, at least Sesshomaru loves you, and will take care of you!"
Kagome closed her eyes, her eyes watering. "You speak the truth, Sango-chan…Sango, may I please be by my self now? I wish to think." Sango nodded.
"Of course, my Lady..." She got up, and dimmed the oil lamp's down, so the room was all most in complete darkness. "Lady Kagome," Sango's soft voice came from the door. "Please… If you do reject Lord Sesshomaru, please, do it kindly."
Kagome's heart went out for Sango then.
"Of course I will, Sango. I promise."
"Thank you, my Lady." Kagome heard the door open, before she sat up quickly.
"Sango wait!"
"What is it my Lady?" Sango asked, turning back to look at her. From the light pouring in from behind her, Kagome only saw the dark shape of Sango.
"Why didn't he just tell me when he walked me to my room?" Kagome asked confused. Sango chuckled softly.
"Believe it or not, my lady…I think, our dear Lord Sesshoumaru, was `scared' of rejection from `you'." With that Sango closed the door, leaving Kagome to own thoughts.
"Sesshoumaru…. `scared'?!"
