Born for This
They were complete perfection. They were sheer amazement. In Inuyasha's eyes- they were everything. They lay in their mother's arms in deep slumber. Two heads covered with luscious hair, one silver and one black. On top were a pair of small ears fallen back. Their little hands clutched anything they could and their small claws clung deep in to the fabric of Kagome's clothes. She smiled down at them, “Their perfect.” She whispered too afraid to wake them.
Inuyasha smiled as well, “They're ours.” He said proudly and a little embarrassed since he never showed such soft affection for something so small, however, these were his pups, his son and daughter. How could he not smile or be proud? He was a father now.

One of the little pups stretched her worn out body and relaxed her fists. She opened her eyes under her silver bangs. Inuyasha and Kagome looked to see two perfect blues looking lazily back at them. She was the first-born and now the first to open her eyes and greet the world. Her cheeks flushed pink and she grumbled with annoyance.
“Just like her father,“ Kagome shook her head sheepishly. “Hey, c'mon now.” Inuyasha couldn't help but to smirk at her comment. The little pup did resemble him the most. It was only time before they saw her fiery personality. Just then she snatched her brother's ears and yanked it. He didn't stir and continued his slumber.
Kagome looked up in to her lover's eyes, “Thank you.” Her voice shook a little for she was still tired from the whole ordeal of bringing two beings in to the world.

Inuyasha was a little taken back, “For what?”
She shook her head slowly. It was only obvious. “For this.” She looked down at her newborn children. “For making my life complete.”

Inuyasha looked away with burning cheeks and Kagome smiled. She knew what he meant.
It was such a beautiful sight, such a wonderful feeling. And no one would have guessed that it would have ended so soon. Months had passed and the pups began to grow. They were named Stark and Kairi.
Kairi, was the oldest, the little girl. She resembled Inuyasha the most with her silver hair and independent personality. However, her eyes were a deep enticing blue. No one knew whom she inherited them from. Kairi had a wicked sense of humor when it came to many things. Even though she could barely walk on her own feet she never stayed close always wondering off. Crawling everywhere all the time. She drove her parents insane and Kagome knew Kairi would be the death of her.
Stark, who was the little boy and the youngest was a little more reserved and pensive. He had gotten that part from his father but resembled Kagome the most for his hair was dark and he had a tender nature about him. His eyes were the same beautiful blue; it was probably the only thing he shared with his sister. Stark was more patient and more gentle with things however there were times when a curiosity sparked in him and he forced his useless legs to stand. Everything he tried he succeeded.
And it was on that day that tragedy struck.
“Oh, c'mon now, you won't grow anymore if you don't eat.” Kagome brought up a wooden spoon to a grumpy Kairi's face. The baby girl scrunched her face and looked away to her brother who stared up at his mother. Kagome laughed, “Don't be so fussy.”
“Kagome!” called a voice from the outside. Kagome looked to the entrance of their small little hut. Just then a young Shippo rushed in falling to the floor.
”Shippo!” Kagome gasped, dropped the wooden spoon and hurried over to the Kitsune, “Shippo, what in the world happened?”
Shippo panted, “It's- it's…“ his voice shook but he couldn't continue. Kagome knew right away, “Go get Inuyasha, hurry!”
Shippo nodded and rushed out as he was told.

Kagome stepped out of the hut and off in the distance she saw it- complete darkness coming their way. The ground shook and all the animals fled. Kagome grasped her bow and arrows but not before looking back at her children who had sensed the evil coming and huddled close together trembling like wet puppies.
Kagome frowned with worry, “Inuyasha please hurry.”
He was standing by the river watching as the fish made their way up stream. He had gone off to collect water so Kagome could heat it up and give the twins a nice warm bath. She was always saying how lovely it would be if they could enjoy a nice warm bath once in a while and something about bubbles when she was a kid.
Inuyasha often realized how much Kagome began to miss her era and the simple things in life like a bus or a phone. She worried the twins needed vaccinations and medicine if they got sick. Inuyasha often had to remind her they weren't all human and demon blood ran through their veins. They were hanyou's and they didn't get sick so easily. However, that didn't settle Kagome's motherly worries. She wanted to be on the safe side and make sure they were healthy. But to Inuyasha the twins looked perfectly fine. Stark was as happy as ever and Kairi- well even if she got sick she would be rambunctious- a little too much for her own good. They would be fine sure enough. But he did agree that a warm bath would be nice. After having to bathe in the cold river he was beginning to miss Kagome's strange bathtub and the water that became too hot. He even missed that hard slippery block she called soap. It had a very pungent scent but it left a familiar scent to that small bathroom in Kagome's house. Inuyasha would have loved to visit the small shrine one more time but the well was closed with no way to open it. They had tried and failed.

Inuyasha remembered the day it closed. It was after a battle with the demon Kaibutsu. A demon almost as horrible as Naraku who had rose shortly after his defeat. Kaibutsu was said to be human once as well however the truth was never certain. She was a shape-shifting demon with many appearances and forms. Her true self wasn't known. That day she took the form of a scaled beast flying in the sky causing havoc and destruction. Inuyasha and the rest battled the demon in the midst of it all the well was destroyed. When Kaibutsu disappeared and the land turned quiet Kagome turned to the well and Inuyasha watched as tears slipped down her cheeks and hit the grassy floor below.
The portal to her world was destroyed and there was no going back. Kagome left every thing she knew behind. Everyone she loved was now lost to her but in memory. He could see it all through her pain stricken eyes. Her words didn't say much but her eyes said it all- the words she couldn't verbalize. The feelings she couldn't make reality. It was all there.

Time passed and she learned to live on. Her smile returned once again when she announced she was expecting. It was a shock to Inuyasha. Nevertheless, he smiled as well. The day came and not one but two little hanyous were born. The twins brought a smile to their mother's face. They brought a smile to everyone for that matter. Miroku and Sango enjoyed them as well until they had to retreat back to the demon slayer village in search of Kohaku. They promised to return as soon as they could. Kagome missed their company but she was fine with her little remaining family.
Inuyasha sighed and kneeled to fill the wooden pales with water when a familiar scream caught his hearing. He stood quickly to his feet, “Shippo?” and sure enough Shippo came out from the trees, fear and panic written all over, “Inuyasha!”
Inuyasha hurried to the Kitsune, “What's the matter, Shippo?”
Shippo panted quickly trying to get it out. “Kaibutsu!” he cried. “She sent her demons!” At that instant Inuyasha knew. His eyes darted towards home. There was darkness in the sky. Just like that horrible day when the well was destroyed. One single word escaped his lips; “No…” without anymore stalling he hurried through the forest in fast speed. He had to get to them. He had to protect them.

When he arrived he saw nothing but complete destruction. The hut was shattered to pieces. “Kagome!” but she was nowhere to be seen. His raven-haired beauty was gone.
“Poppa! A familiar scream pierced his ears. “Kairi!” he shot up and there in the distance was the giant evil. It had the talons of an eagle and its body was covered in silver fur. Its face was complete horror. It was the face of a jackal with blood shot empty eyes. Indeed it was a creation of Kaibutsu herself. However, Inuyasha's heart stopped when in its clutches he saw her, Kairi. “Kairi!” He ran to her pulling out Tetsusaiga but when he saw Kairi he came to a complete stop. For a slight moment every thing went mute and her deep blues glistened with tears of anguish. He saw her fear. He couldn't attack. If he did, he would not only kill Kaibutsu's demon but Kairi as well. “No!” he cursed following after them but the last thing he saw was his daughter's angelic face crying out to him, pleading, father please save me! Then they disappeared.
“Dammit!” he bellowed falling to his knees. He had failed. He had let them escape. For hours he searched but to no avail. Kairi was nowhere to be seen. Then it hit him. Stark. “Oh no…” Inuyasha whispered and headed back to the hut. “Please be alive!” when he arrived his body came to a halt and his heart beat at a fast rhythm. He was panting for breath. There was silence everywhere and he almost lost hope when out of the debris came out a cry, a cry for help. Inuyasha moved and fast, looking through the pieces of wood and broken items that once made their home. Finally when he pulled a few planks aside there lay baby Stark. He was crying his eyes out and his little fists tightened; his small body was shaking uncontrollably. He was injured, a few bruises and scratches and like that Inuyasha took him in to his arms. A sigh of relief escaped his lips. Stark clung to him without letting go, “What happened?” Inuyasha asked in a low trembling voice, “What in the world happened?” No one could tell him. If only Stark could speak but all he mumbled was, “Poppa, Momma gone. Momma gone.”

A/N: So there it is, the prologue. It may be a little confusing at first. I didn't put much detail in to it because it's a mystery. What happened in the beginning is explained more as the story unfolds. The mystery will soon start to reveal itself little by little. (:
