MNG101: Hey. It has been what, a month since I updated this? I'm sorry. Well, I won't get the next chapter out that soon either being as it is finals week. However, ratings and guestbook signings seem to miraculously make the chapters pop up faster…

Disclaimer: I do not own Inu-Yasha. I merely use it for my own demonic forms of pleasure and amusement. Oh yeah, I also don't own Rapid Hope Loss by Dashboard Confessional. I am not a huge fan, but the song fit the fic, so I used it.

Make Me or Break Me

Chapter Three

~*~ Saturday Morning, 9:15 AM ~*~

"Bring Bring"

"Five more minutes, Mommy! I want to ride the pony!"

"Bring!" The phone persisted, resonating through the calm morning air. Kagome tried unsuccessfully to turn off the alarm clock. After five minutes she had thrown the clock up against a wall, and the ringing persisted like a Tele-marketer.

It had finally occurred to her that it was her phone going off, and that angered her even more. "Who could possibly call me at this hour?" she asked rhetorically as she got up and straightened her bulky sleep-shirt. The raven-hair stumbled across her hard, cold, wooden floor in search for her cell phone. It was HER Saturday, and she was damned if anyone was going to get in her way of total relaxation. "Hello!" Kagome huffed sternly into the phone.

"Hey." It was him. She completely mellowed out as his laid back voice came through the receiver, and processed through her pincushion ears. "Did I catch you at a bad time?"

"N-no, of course not. Not at all." She stammered, trying to stifle a yawn.

"Great. About tonight, Kikyo, Kanna and Kagura were going to go shopping. They would have called you, but you live a half-hour out, so I just wanted to give you a heads-up.

Kagome was in shock. Never before had these people so much as looked at her, well, unless she was the butt of some joke or comment. Now they wanted her to go shopping with them? For Inu-Yasha's party? "Hey, wench? You there?" Kagome smirked at that old nickname.

"Yeah, I am."

"Great. Now get your ass in gear, cuz they should be there in twenty. I would come, but I have to get the other house set up. See ya later, then?"

"Yeah, later." Kagome hung up the phone in disbelief as she clad herself in mourning black and awaited a honk.

~*~ At the Mall ~*~

The four girls walked into the mall in pairs. Kagome and Kikyo were in front, and were talking about what they were going to buy. Actually, it was more like Kikyo throwing apparel at Kagome for her to try on. Kagura and Kanna were in the back, picking out an outfit here and there, placing bets on how long it would take for Kikyo to persuade Kagome into a colorful outfit, or dare they say, a print. (MNG101: Is it just me or does the woman who wrote this seem to be uber obsessed with names beginning with K… It feels like the sesame street letter of the day or something…)

Soon, Kagome and Kikyo hit the changing rooms. An hour and a half-hour later (Kanna won), Kagome, or rather Kikyo, decided that Kagome would wear a red, oriental style, Sleeveless shirt. It was navel bearing, and had golden dragons scattered across it, with golden fasteners and a golden rim around the neck. She had a black mini-skirt with a golden rim around the bottom, and slits up to high-thigh. She had strappy black sandals to top the whole look off. She looked amazing.

Kikyo, on the other hand, had on the most revealing outfit, if you could call it that. It was more of a fuzzy tube that only went down half her stomach, and low rise capris that hugged her hips, and the rest of her body as well. She had on high, spiked sandals with little to no ankle support.

Since Kanna and Kagura were "still looking", Kikyo decided that she would take the unsuspecting Kagome over to her house to finish up stage two: getting her to look nothing short of stunning, just for the hell of it. They were all curious as to how Kagome would look in normal clothing. "Phase two went rather well," Kagura snickered as they got in a cab later.

"Yeah, I wonder how tonight will play out.," added Kanna.

~*~ Kikyo's House, 4:00 PM ~*~

Kikyo and Kagome were drying their hair, and there was no conversation going on between the two. After a quick snack, it was nearly five, so they decided to get ready, the party being at seven. Kagome pulled on her skirt, top and shoes, looking over herself in the full-length mirror. Her clothes hugged her in exactly the right places, and she filled out the rest perfectly. She had found a chunky silver charm bracelet for one arm, and put a subtitle ankle bracelet around the opposite limb, small silver bells rung whenever she made the slightest motion with her foot. She looked good. Kikyo, on the other hand, was looking, well like Kikyo. Clothing barley even there. Subtle blue eyeliner and pink eye shadow was also apparent, as well as pink lipstick. She had done Kagome's long tresses up in two mess buns, curling random strands that fell down, and her bangs as well. She had dusted Kagome's hair with a fine glitter as well. Kagome had heavy black eyeliner that swirled up into a cats' eye effect. Her cheeks were dusted with blush and her lips were stained cherry red. The stain stood in heavy contrast to Kagome's fair skin, and her warm brown eyes practically melted like rich chocolates in the lamplight. The long and tedious project of applying makeup had cost them most of their leftover time. When they were done, jealous would be an understatement as Kikyo looked over her hard work. It certainly paid off. Kagome looked like a fallen angel without all of the depressing black.

'I hope this will work, and she will be broken like a piece of shattered glass.' Kikyo had always been jealous of Kagome, but this just confirmed it. Ever since elementary school, Kagome had always beaten Kikyo in everything, from singing to archery. Especially in those two. She was so glad when Kagome changed. That meant she got Inu-Yasha all to herself without having to worry about Kagome stealing her place. Kikyo didn't know that Kagome and Inu-Yasha had a past together, she just thought that they would steal glances at each other every once and a while. The two of them had two completely different groups of friends. Boy was she wrong. They two look-alikes climbed in the car and headed off for Inu-Yasha's beach house shortly after.

~*~ Inu-Yasha's Beach House ~*~

"Well, here we are!" Kikyo exclaimed as she and Kagome walked around to the back of excessively large house, then inside the house via the back door. "Catcha later!" Kagome all but yelled over the music as Kikyo walked to some random group of people.

Kagome, spotting a dancing Sango, made her way over. "I didn't know you got invited!" Kagome yet again yelled over the music.

"Yeah, everyone in the senior class did." Sango replied as she and Kagome started to dance.

Meanwhile, Kikyo had found Inu-Yasha and Miroku. "All up to you two now," she smirked, and started seductively dancing. Kouga joined her, and she gave a promising wink to Inu-Yasha before giving herself up to the music.

~*~ Two Hours Later ~*~

"Care to dance?" Inu-Yasha asked Kagome, who was scoping out the snack bar with Sango.

"Ummmm," Sango nudged her. "I guess…"

"Great," he said, and they made their way to the dance floor. After a couple of songs Miroku "spotted" them.

"Hey, Yash?" he asked, no yelled, accusingly. As if on key, the music died down, and everyone stared. "You know her?"

"Ummmm..." was all Inu-Yasha could say. ''I dunno if I can do this..." he thought as his heart sped up.

"Yeah, WE do," Kagome interjected. Everyone was looking quizzically at Inu-Yasha by now.

"What are you talking about, Wench? I don't know you!" Inu-Yasha had pulled through with the plan. "I just mistook you for Kikyo," he covered up. "But with the lights on, I can tell that you are not. Just some cheep imitation." Inu-Yasha forced himself to laugh, almost choking up in the process. Kikyo then came and possessively wrapped her arms around them as the party started back up, and then the crowd went back to what they happened to be doing before the outburst took place. Kagome realized what they did, but couldn't move, just stood there, paralyzed. Her eyes clouded over in tears, and waves of emotion hit Inu-Yasha, as she stood there. He didn't know if it would make him feel better if she just broke down and cried instead of just standing there completely devoid of emotion. Kikyo certainly wasn't helping either. Kagome walked up and did the unexpected. She slapped him, and the sound resonated above the music. She slipped out on the deck, and walked along the beach, speeding up to a jog, then to a sprint. She sang to herself, but the words got lost in the wind.

*You've come to say you want it all,

But I can't say I blame you now.

Sometimes you got to fall before you're found out.

Thanks for waiting this long to show yourself,

Because now that I can see you,

I don't think you're worth a second glance.*

She walked down the beach as tears flowed through her stormy Grey eyes, clouding her vision. To get away faster, she decided to speed up to a slow jog, then a fast jog.

*So much for all the promises you've made.

It served well and now you're gone

And they're wasted on me.

So much for your enduring sense of charm.

It served well and now you're gone

And it's wasted on me. *

She took off her sandals and started sprinting; the rise and fall of waves calmed her down as she crossed the endless miles of beach. Moonlight serenaded her, Inu-Yasha watching her small figure get smaller and smaller as it made the journey towards the horizon line.

*You've come to say you want it all,

But I can't say I blame you now.

Sometimes you got to fall before you're found out.

Well thanks, thanks for waiting this long to show yourself, to show yourself

Because now that I can see you,

I don't think you're worth a second glance*

She saw a gazebo up ahead, and made that her destination. She needed to sit and think about all of what conspired at the party, and work it out. She had to process it, and that was no easy task.

*So much for all the promises you've made.

It served well and now you're gone

And they're wasted on me.

So much for your enduring sense of charm.

It served well and now you're gone

And it's wasted on me.

I guess that all you got is all you're gonna get.

So much for, so much for.....

I guess that all you got is all you're gonna get.

So much for, so much for..... *

She sat at the gazebo and sang this, unaware that a pair of golden-amber eyes were studying her.

*Do what you want, if that's what you wish.

I can't see...

You've got a sense...

You'll find a way to make things right.

I guess that all you got is all you're gonna get.

So much for, so much for....

I guess that all you got is all you're gonna get.

So much for, so much for....*

"Lovely. You have an exquisite voice," a dull, low, yet intriguing voice spoke behind Kagome after she had finished singing. A slight blush crept up her high cheekbones as her stormy, yet red and puffy Grey eyes met clear, expressionless gray ones. "You have talent... Kagome I presume?"

"Yeah, that's me. Who are you?" she asked, still startled.

"I am Sesshomaru, Inu-Yasha's elder half-brother. For all he talked about you, and for all you came over years back, he never mentioned me?"

"Would seem so..."

Sesshomaru rolled his eyes. "What did my twit of a brother do? Kagome told the story, and received a ride home from Sesshomaru in return.

"Well, Higurashi, you should feel blessed to know how dim my brother really is. I could tell you 10,000 other mistakes he has committed. He did you a favor, trust me." Sesshomaru said dryly as he pulled up her driveway. "Maybe you would care to talk over coffee sometime, as a way of apologizing on his behalf. I could share some things with you that he did, as well."

"Maybe I'll take you up on that.," she said as she got out of the car, thanked him, and then went inside.

On the way home, Sesshomaru was deep in thought. 'Yes, she would certainly make a good addition to the business, and I get to ruin my brother's name in the process. That twit of a brother did not know what he was passing up.' Sesshomaru did not know how much Kagome would change his life forever.

~*~ Back at the Party ~*~

As Inu-Yasha and Kikyo were currently occupying a room, Miroku and Sango were dancing and having the time of their lives. Sango was completely unaware of the guilty Miroku, or what event had taken place not an hour before. She was freshening up in the restroom.
