Authors note: this is my first attempt with this pairing. I usually write sess/kag pairings, but the bankotsu/kagome stories have really been jumping out at me so I’ve decided to write one. Anyway, this story takes place after the whole Mt.Hakurei thing

Summery: months flow by as time passes on. The hunt for naraku is still on. Inuyasha is colder towards kagome after he finds out kikyou is dead...or is she? Kagome grows cold in general because of a certain person’s death. Or is said person dead? Find out as love blossom between the two in broken.

(Chapter one: my muse)
Once upon a time, a girl of 15 years who was dragged down the well by a centipede demon seeking the jewel that was harbored in her body that she didn't know was there. Fighting to stay alive in this crazy place, she ran and ran into god’s tree where a boy by the name of inuyasha was pinned to by an arrow. Removing the arrow he tried to kill her but didn't for he killed the demon who was attacking because it pulled the jewel from the girls body. Once said demon was killed another came about and took the jewel seeking to wish on it. The girl launched an arrow then tried to shot said demon. She did in fact shoot the arrow only thing was her target was off a few inches and struck the jewel. In an array of flashes of light, the jewel was shattered an sent shards in all directions. From that day on said girl known as kagome traveled back in time to complete the jewel and kill the vile demon known as naraku who was also seeking the jewel to wreak havoc across the lands. Of course, like any great adventure there were people to meet an those to kill.
Kagome sat in the forest near bone eaters well thinking about the events that had happen at Mt.Hakurei (s/p) and before. Ever since that day, she had slowly been seeping into a slow depression. Some wondered why this was happening. I could tell you. It was because he had died. She saw his body tangled in the mass of flesh that was naraku. His dead and lifeless eyes watched her as she watched him. Inuyasha had injured him thus making naraku able to kill him by taking his jewel shards. She wanted to cry for him. Cry for the decision he made, but knew if she did inuyasha would know something was up. For a fact, kagome knew him not to be made out as he was. He was a great leader. He was a smart man. He was everything a girl wanted in a friend. He was simply bankotsu.
Now as she looked to the lush green tops of the forest it was no use getting the day out of her mind. It was no use trying to lie anymore. She missed her misunderstood friend. She missed the mercenary who had come upon her by accident in the woods just 2 months before 'it' happens.
(Flash back)
Kagome sat by the well crying for who knows why. She was becoming too emotional for some reason. She knew the only reason for this was because someone she cared for was going to die soon. How soon and who she didn't know. Looking around to see if anyone had seen her like this she quickly stood up and was about to wipe her tears away until she spotted some white fabric.
'I only know two people with white Hakama's ' kagome thought
" sesshouamru " kagome called, no answer was given
" ban...bankotsu?" kagome called out with a startled voice
" scared little miko" he answered as he came out of the woods into the clearing
" what do you want?" kagome asked warily
" oh nothing just a place to sit an think in quiet" he said as he walked towards the well
" why so close to the village...to inuyasha?" kagome asked taking a step back
" because I can... you don’t have to be afraid I won’t hurt your watch dog" bankotsu said
".........."
" what? I said I wouldn't hurt him don’t you believe me " bankotsu said seeing the look kagome was sending him
" no an that doesn't mean someone else from your band can't" kagome retorted
" you a smart woman, but I promise no one from by band nor I will attack the mutt...today at least" bankotsu said as he came to a stop standing in front of her
" jerk " kagome muttered under her breath as she crossed he arms over her chest, bankotsu smirked at that comment, but it soon turned into a frown.
" what?" kagome asked seeing the frown
" why've you been crying?" he asked
" what, no I haven't " kagome said an turned away from him
" oh yeah then why do I see tears " he asked being stubborn
" non ya business, why do you care anyway" kagome asked
" because I can, now tell me," he said
" I don’t have to " kagome said
" then I guess we'll both be here for a while, might as well sit down" bankotsu said sitting down in front of the well. kagome ' humph' him as sat on the lip of the well back facing his. after 3 minutes of silence, they were both becoming annoyed so kagome finally spoke.
" alright, alight I was crying because someone will die soon, I don’t know who but some one close to me is going to die " kagome said with a sigh looking over her shoulder at him
" hmm well now that is something to cry over, tell me how do you know this" bankotsu asked turning around
" I just... I only cry for death, I don’t cry for anything else not even my own pain when hurt, I’ve done this before my father was killed, my grandfather and grandmother...my best friends..." kagome said letting it hang in the air like some from a cigarette for a few moments before sucking I back in like a real smoker.
" well then this should give you strength so when the times comes you wont have to cry a river over it at that moment, you can hold it in until your all alone" he said surprising her with his knowledge
" you know something" kagome started
" what?" he asked turning around an leaning against the well
" you not as bad as everyone make you out to be " kagome said firmly, he nearly choked on the air he was breathing when she said that
" are you kidding, just because of those few words" he asked surprise
" that an they way you handle your self an your group" kagome added
" your different, kikyou said you were weak...I don't see it " bankotsu said, kagome didn't reply to that an he didn't expect her to either. a few moments later, she spoke again.
" hey bankotsu where is your byruu?" kagome asked, bankotsu just laughed as he pointed up in a tree near by. an for sure there stood byruu leaning against the tree in all its shinning glory. the rest of the time was spent in a comfortable silence.
some time passed on as the sun made its way around the earth. morning turned to noon and noon turned to evening. night was just upon them an they knew this day was shortly ending. this day was coming to an end an maybe this day would happen again. maybe was all they could say.
( end flashback )
kagome wished an longed for days like those back. she wished she had her friend back. she laughed at herself seeing the truth in the words he spoke to her.
' this should give you strength so when the time comes you won’t have to cry a river over the moment'
she didn't, she cries for his lose there. his eyes haunted her as if saying ' haha I told you so, this was to come an we both knew it, so don’t cry, not know '. oh how she wanted to scream his names to the heaven as if to wake him up from his sleep. so he could talk to her and help her work things out in her mind.
" look at me, crying over something that couldn't be prevented" kagome said to her as she stood up
" cry over what little miko" a smooth voice called out to hers, she whipped her head up at the voice to see sesshouamru
" hello sesshoumaru, an it was nothing " kagome said, you see ever since kagome saved rin sesshoumaru had given her some respect. over time kagome noticed that, he started to become protective over her. she knew one of the reasons for him being at the mountain was to not only try an kill naraku, but to help protect her. sesshoumaru was an enigma to her much like bankotsu.
" must be something for you to cry over it " sesshoumaru said looking down at her finally
" it is nothing really...just thinking about the day at Mt.Hakurei" kagome said quietly, sesshoumaru nodded his head
" why are you here?" kagome asked
" rin wants to know how you are fairing" sesshoumaru with a little smirk
" I’m doing fine, tell her I miss her" kagome told him, he nodded his head an cocked an eyebrow at the look she gave him
" what?" he asked
" nothing...you know rin really needs a mother and I was.." kagome tried to say but couldn't finish because she started laughing at the look sesshoumaru gave her
"sorry if I could finish, my friend in my time would be a perfect match for you, I hope you live long enough to see my time so you can see her in person" kagome said. sesshoumaru just shook his head
" I do not need a mate who will be bugging me for money of my title" sesshouamru stated
" yeah well she wont, her family is mega rich, she owns at least 3 homes already an she's only 17" kagome stated, sesshoumaru didn't really look interested
" well I have to go, tell rin is said hi okay, goodbye sesshoumaru" kagome said walking away
" wench " sesshoumaru muttered
" I heard that " kagome yelled playfully from a good distance away.
her walk led her to the path to the village. not wanting to return to the ill-tempered hanyou so soon she turned around and headed back to into the forest to take a quick walk. little did she know what she would encounter in the forest on her short walk.
