Kagome was sitting in the center of a field playing with Shippou whom she frequently came back to visit. Kirara lay contently by her side soaking up the sun. Presently Shippou was playing with the multicolored ball kagome had brought back with her and she allowed herself to think of the past.

Soon after they had finally defeated Naraku everything seemed to fall back into place for everyone but herself, instead of Kikyou dieing and taking Inuyasha to hell with her, she had been given life. And Kagome’s life had come to a halt. They didn’t need her any more, Inuyasha had Kikyou. The jewel was whole again and they no longer needed her. She had fled, with the jewel in tow to her home. She had stayed away for a whole year before even attempting to go back through; afraid of what would be waiting or even if she could get through to the other side.

Not to mention, she had been beside herself with grief, Inuyasha had left her…told her to her face he no longer needed her and to go home. She hadn’t known what else to do…so she left. Shippou had pleaded and begged for her to stay but she couldn’t. Sango and Miroku, who had finally settled down and married, had agreed to watch over her Shippou, and she had just run away. She had no one to protect her from the demons that wanted the jewel, and Inuyasha would of Corse want it. She had to get away, from him and from Kikyou.

After at least three months of sulking and waiting for him to come barging through the door demanding she had over the jewel, she had given up. She tried being with Hojo, but it didn’t feel right and she had told him it just wasn’t working, he had been devastated but accepting. And she had agreed with herself that there was no one for her and to just try and be happy.

Finally she had decided that she needed to go back and see Shippou. How she had missed him. So when she finally went back into the well house she had honestly thought that it wouldn’t bring her back. She lowered herself slowly and as soon as her feet had touched the bottom, she had felt the familiar pull and magic of the well and was on her way to the other side. When she emerged on the other side and stepped out of the well…she looked around. And she was happy to be there, it hadn’t mattered that Inuyasha wasn’t sulking and waiting for her, or even that Shippou wasn’t there to tackle her. She was just happy to be here. She felt like she was home, something inside of her felt right. And she vowed to always come back.

She, having memorized the way to Sango and Miroku’s house started walking. She got there and there and she could hear a little baby crying from the house. She gnawed on her nails…’would they be happy to see her?’ tenderly she walked up to the door. Before she even got half way there she heard him “KAGOMEEEEEE!!!” it was Shippou, her heart soared. He came flying out of the house and tackled her; she fell right on to her butt. She could feel the tears in her eyes as she had smiled. Miroku and Sango had emerged from the house not long after with Sango carrying the small baby she had heard in her arms.

After the excitement had died down they had agreed that Kagome was allowed over whenever she wanted to visit Shippou. Inuyasha had appeared after she had left and Sango had said that Inuyasha promised to stay away, and let kagome enjoy her time with Shippou.

Kagome had yet too see Inuyasha in the 3 months se had been coming back. And she decided she could wait even longer. He still wore the prayer beads around his neck though, so she wasn’t worried about physical harm, but more about mental harm, and how seeing him happy with Kikyou would do to her. ‘Yes’ she decided, she could wait.

She was brought, suddenly out of her thoughts though as she felt a very strong aura coming pretty fast at her. Suddenly she recognized the aura at the same time Kirara started growling and Shippou ran behind her.

The aura stopped moving just beyond the trees that surrounded the small clearing they were in and she said, in a regular voice knowing he could hear her, “Sesshoumarou, why have you come here?”

He walked out of the woods, a slow steady pace and she kept her arrow (that she had gotten out instinctively when Kirara had started growling) pinned on him, there were no prayer beads around his neck.

“if I had wanted to harm you, I would have already” he told her stopping mere inches from herself.

They stood like that, with Sesshomarou looking down at her, for about 10 seconds, which felt more like a century. Then suddenly his eyes seemed to soften the very smallest amount that anyone would have missed, if they had not have been standing so close, as his face hardened and he growled out in a voice that screamed 'if-you-mock-me-or-ask-questions-I-WILL-kill-you',

"Miko, I am in need of your assistance"

Kagome felt her heart slow. She was shocked, as if from a distance she felt Shippou's hold on her go slack and heard Kirara stop growling. Suddenly though, she felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand straight as another less friendly growl met her ears.

"Miko! I have no time for this nonsense...you are a Miko and by your laws you must help anyone that ask for It." he ground out. If Kagome had been in her right mind she would have noticed when she first saw Sesshoumaru that he had both of his arms back and they were currently holding a small bundle that kept whimpering.

Suddenly she knew what that little bundle was. 'Rin' her mind supplied, the little bundle was Rin. She felt her stomach lurch at the thought that Sesshoumaru would probably kill her if it wasn’t for the fact that Rin was sick with a human disease and needed to be cured.

Hesitantly she walked forward and held out her arms for Rin. Over the years since they had been hunting Naraku she had seen Rin a couple times and she had always been so bubbly and happy that she HAD to smile whenever she saw her, but now, seeing her as she was, she felt her heart ache.

Sesshoumaru looked at Kagome then at her arms, asking for Rin, and then he looked at Rin's face, the only part of her visible from the blanket around her. Her face was slightly red and burning. Her lips chapped and her forehead creased. Then he heard he whimper in her sleep and slowly, as if he really didn’t want to, he stretched his arms out and gave Kagome his Rin.

Kagome nearly cried with relief as Sesshoumaro handed her Rin, for a second it looked like he had changed his mind, while he was looking down at Rin. Sesshoumaru might think himself as heartless, but Kagome had seen the masked love in his eyes as he stared down at Rin, and she knew, that death would come to anyone who dared harm his Rin.

Still Staring at Rin, His cold mask in place once more he said, "I trust you will be able to heal her, Miko?" Kagome looked up and his eyes locked with hers, "I will do everything I possibly can, Sesshoumaru-sama" she said, finality in her eyes. She WOULD save Rin. Sesshoumaru stared into her eye a second longer then nodded, a short curt nod, as if he had found something he liked. Then he turned around and walked away.

She stood and watched the direction he left until she could no longer feel his aura. She was dumbfounded. What the hell had just happened? She wanted to ponder it more, but a small, heartbreaking whimper from Rin brought her back to more important thing, this little girl was so sick. She started to speak to Shippou, “Shippou I have to see in I can get this little girl back to my time and cure her okay?” Shippou looked so rattled, she started saying “Kagome what just hap...” but was cut off as kagome held up her hands. She could sense Inuyasha’s aura now, coming from almost the same direction as Sesshomaru’s. Shippou must have sensed it to because he uttered a small, “uh oh…” and then looked at Kagome. Quickly Kagome started running to the well, Shippou at her heals and Rin in her arms, Poor Rin.

As she was running she spoke to Shippou. Shippou, I have to go home and get Rin better, okay? Now listen, I don’t know if she’ll make it through the well…if she doesn’t ill be back, if she does Ill just be back in a couple days, don’t tell any one about what happened back there okay, especially Inuyasha got it? Ill bring u back lots of poky” Shippou nodded, “okay Kagome” they reached the clearing of the well. She could really sense Inuyasha now, Kikyou was with him. She could practically hear them, she sprinted to the well ‘dear Kami’ she thought, ‘please let the well accept Rin.’ Just as she reached the well, she felt Inuyasha enter the clearing, she heard him utter “Kagome!” just was she sat on the edge of the well, “SIT!” she screamed without looking back, distantly she heard the familiar ‘UMPH’ as the magic of the well took hold; she gripped Rin tighter, and squeezed her eyes shut. Her feet touched down on the other side, and opened her eyes, and saw Rins face, ‘YES!’ she thought. It worked.

Just as she climbed out of the well, she could feel someone trying to use the well, she could sense the magic of the well working. She froze. ‘No’ she thought. She gripped the jewel around her neck and closed her eyes. She could feel the familiar magic travel through her very being as she thought of a barrier. Let no one pass. She could feel someone hit the barrier, could practically see it in her minds eye. Inuyasha cursing as he reached the barrier keeping him away. He retreated. She held the barrier. And walked back to her house “MOM!!” she screamed, “MOM!” vaguely she felt another person try and get through the barrier, she ignored it. She could still feel the magic of the Jewel in her and she wondered why she could feel it. It felt like she was still using the Magic. She walked into the house and saw a note on the fridge, it read:

‘Ergh’ she thought, ‘I hate Hangi’ her moms new boyfriend. Then very suddenly, as if she had been dropped in water, she felt paralyzed. It took so much strength to move. What was happening? She laid Rin down on the table as she felt her thoughts crumble. What the hell was going on? She gripped the chairs as her knees suddenly gave out. She felt the temporary Barrier she had put up go out and a presence get through. Right before everything went black, she Saw Rin open her eyes as Inuyasha ran into the kitchen. Then she let herself go as the world turned black.
