Caged Bird
Sum: She was always exactly what everyone wanted her to be. She was a miko and was expected to be continuously forgiving and never exceed her limitations.But she is human. And all humans fail at one point.
This one just had a ghastly cost.

She is young. Maybe five or six years old. She is small,with brown eyes and raven hair. She is young and in-experienced to the world she is forced to encounter in her later years. But later for that. Un-beknownest to her an invisible pair of golden eyes are watching her as she walked the safe gates of her protected family shrine. 'We'll meet in due time' the wind seemed to say as the orbs frayed away. Though the Goshinbuku now guarded her, the eyes would one day captivate her.
Lost in her train of thought she exits the gates and walks toward the busy streets.
"Don't get to close to the street Kagome!!!" she heard her mother yell from inside.
she nodded and walked back into the saftey of the perimeter.

Ten years later the same girl , only older and wiser but not yet wise enough, walks toward the well hidden in the shrine house. She is taller, about to turn sixteen, she has the same beautiful brown eyes as she used to but now filled with experience and longing. Her eyes told the story of her cautious past. She was shelterd, but nothing prepared her for her fifteenth birthday when she fell into the well and was transported 500 years in the past- to the Warring States. InuYasha was waiting for her, as he always had. InuYasha's eyes held pain and were hardened by life's cruelties. He helped her through the well, and hugged her quickly before pushing her away and glaring coldly.

"Hi InuYasha" she says cheerfully, as she looks into the golden orbs.
The orbs, the one's that stalked her as a child, the one's that guided her safely through the denseness of night, and the ones she loved so much but wouldn't say.
"Hey there" he smiled briefly before continuing "you're late" he growls the ending.
"I know, I'm sorry." she looks at the blade of grass that had just become interesting.
"Whatever" he grumbles as he picks her up and carries her to the hut that had become somewhat of a home.

"Kagome!!" squealed the young kitsune as he launched himself in her arms.
Shippoe had experienced the harshness of life at such a young age. Losing both his okaa-san and ooto-san( mother and father), and yet some how he kept a smile on his face.
"Kagome, glad to see you've returned" Sango screamed
'Who said I wouldn't' she silently retorted as she furrowed her brows and smirked slyly.

Sango, a tajii (a demon slayer), had been through so much in her life. Losing her only, somewhat living, brother Kohaku, having her entire village slain, and having to put up with the hentai buddhist monk. Monk doesn't seem to suit him though he was rasied in the buddhist principle's it is highly doubted that he is one. Monk Miroku, same pervert day after day.
He was just like his father, sadly. But still you had to love him, his dorky grin and his ways of pissing off InuYasha had become some what charming and, at times, hilarious . Miroku had lost his father to the evil hanyou Naraku, who had tricked him and forced a kamkazi(wind tunnel) in his right hand. Now Miroku had the same curse that would destroy him in a matter of time unless Naraku is defeated.

Hours later, sitting next to the warmth of the fire, the group discusses their newest plans to defeat Naraku.
"I believe an aerial attack would prove best and quickest" Miroku stated a little too confidentally.
"No! I want to AVENGE my brother and village, not make it quick and painless. Hai I want it to be over and done with, but I would like the satisfaction of making him suffer as we all have" replied Sango deeply annoyed.
"Kikyo seems to believe that if we can just.......Kagome ...... are you ok?"
InuYasha looked over at the re-incarnation of his past love.
"Kagome...."
"It's always Kikyo that knows best isn't it?" is what she wanted to reply but in reality she replied "I'm fine, I was just thinking" with a faux smile etchced on her face.
"About?" Miroku inquired.
"Though we all have noticed ,when we've faced him previously, he takes special care to make sure his heart is safe. Though we have hit his heart before, we have never destroyed it and that was why we lost. He blocks every attack made to that one thing, even if ,need be, losing an arm or leg to protect it. I propose we distract him long enough to attack his heart.I say we have one imparticular to challenge him and once he is so engrossed in the battle, we strike and take him down once and for all."
Everyone sat in silent as they pondered the thought she had just conjured.
"Wonderful Kagome." Sango jeered as she jumped up to grasp her Hiraikotsu.
"I'll prepare the weapons and ask Keada if she has heard any news on his where-abouts" she was never happier.
"Slow your role Sango-chan, we still need a descent plan" Kagome giggled at her friend's abnormal, though completely justified, happiness for causing pain.
Sango retreated to her seat.
Miroku, Kagome and Sango were discussing their plans as to who would distract. InuYasha sat staring intensly.
"InuYasha you need to be in this discussion as well" Kagome motioned.
"We need Kikyo" InuYasha said bluntly, breaking everyone's happiness.
"What was that?" Kagome said in a shocked manner.
"We need Kikyo" he repeated in a 'duh' tone. "She will be a valued member of the team to destroy Naraku. Kagome, since you formed this plan I suggest you say what task everyone is to preform" InuYasha stated.
"Fine then." She whimpered with tears forming. "Sango-chan, you're in charge of seeing that the weapons are sharpened and ready for battle. Miroku-sama, I want you to prepare your spiritual powers and make any remedies neccesary for healings and barriers. InuYasha....." she stopped for a moment to gather her thoughts and catch her breath.
Everyone had been amazed by her previous' go get' attitude, up until the point she stopped.
"Yes, Kagome?"
"InuYasha.... best to you. Go fetch Kikyo. As for me, I'm going on my own to think."
Everyone stared at her in utter shock.
"You can't leave!!! Not at such a crucial time. Kagome whats going on?"
He worriedly asked her.
"I just......I need to think about alot of .....things." she stared at the peice of grass.
"So what are you going to do once the shard has been completed?" she continued
"Kagome..."
"Are you still going to become full demon? Or resurect the real Kikyo?"
InuYasha looked at the questioning girl.
"Gomen nasai, I was out of line" she stuttered before retreating to the depths of the woods.
"KAGOME!!!!!" InuYasha screamed before he felt a hand wrapped around his arm.
"No InuYasha, you have done your peice, just let her go this once." Miroku pleaded.

"That jerk....doesn't he see she's just a walking corpse.....she's dead.... gods InuYasha why are you such a baka" she cried.
She had yet to reach the her destination before being distracted by some form of glowing to her left. She turned to see the offending object.
'What is that?' she began to think as she walked toward the annoyance.
She walked slowly over to the object in question.
She reached for the bush to move it so she may get a closer veiw.
"Huh....." her eyes widend in shock as she began to scream "Nara..." she was cut off as his tentacle wrapped around her neck, pulling her high off the ground.

They were all sitting in the same spots they had before Kagome left.
"She's been gone quite a while. She didn't go home, her stuff is still here." Sango said.
"Yes she has been gone quite some time" Miroku inquired.
InuYasha didn't say anything before jumping up and leaving.

InuYasha ran the lengths of the forest. 'Kagome...where are you' his mind pleaded.
Wind blew in his face as he chased down her scent.
"Kagome" he smiled inwardly. "Wait...there's something else.....blood....Naraku"
His mind went into a panicking alert. "KAGOME!!!!!" he screamed as he ran in her direction.

"Kagome, do you really think that half-breed is coming to protect you? Do you believe he actually has feelings for you? Even when that resurected body of Kikyo is walking around?
Fool" he laughed evilly.
Naraku continued to choke the girl.
"Naraku..... Inu....Yasha will......come.."
"Why do you believe such foolishness? He doesn't love you"
Kagome was beyond crying, she was sobbing.
"He ..."
"He does NOT love you" he emphasized 'not'.
Kagome closed her eyes and slowly accepted her fate.
"You're like Kikyo in many ways. You both died loving that filthy mongrel" he laughed coldly.

He reached the direction of her scent. He found her bleeding form in the grasp of his arch- enemy.
"NARAKU!!!!! LET KAGOME GO" he screamed as he whiped out his sword.
"Ahh the mutt brings outs his toys....how quaint. And what is it you plan to do InuYasha? Scratch me with the dull blade... while I have your woman in my grasp?
Are you willing to make such a sacrifice like you did.......with Kikyo" he laughed.
InuYasha stared in amazement at how accurate his words were.
'Would I really put Kagome in the same predicament? '
'NO! ' his inner voice screamed into his head.

He stepped closer to his target and un-sheathed Tetsusaiga.
"Let her go Naraku" he growled menacingly.
"And if I don't?" he snapped back.
"I'll destroy you" he growled.
"InuYasha, you have not been able to dispose of me before what makes you think you can do so now?"
"You have Kagome, I have no greater reason"
Kagome was running out of breath, she turned to look at the face of her defender.
Naraku squeezed tighter around her neck.
"Inu.....Yasha.....help.......me" she stumbled on her words .
"Kagome....don't give up.......just hold on a little longer." he coaxed
Naraku squeezed once more, and she began coughing up blood.
"InuYasha" she cried out.
"Give up Mongrel, you can not defeat me." he laughed menicingly as the girl stuggled to free herself from his grasp
"I will never ler her go" he screamed
One more aueeze followed by a blood curdling scream and Naraku laughed.
"You already have"he laughed as he threw her body to the ground.
InuYasha dove quickly and caught her.
he craddled her fagile figure.
"Kagome..... please....wake up.......don't die...."
"InuYasha....." she whispered his name.
"Hold on Kagome......just hold on" he begged as he whiped out Tetsusaiga.
"NARAKU YOU HAVE HELL TO PAY" he screamed as he summoned 'Wind Scar' whiping out Naraku.

He ran over to the bleeding girl and held her in his arms.
He nuzzled his head into her hair and sobbed harshly.
"Kagome..."
"Inu...Yasha.......Gomen nasai. "
"Kagome what are you sorry for?" he questioned as he pushed her away so she faced him.
"I wanted to tell you for so long.... but I was afraid of losing you....." she confessed
Losing me.... to who?"
"Kikyo" she sighed
"Kagome ?"
"InuYasha.....I....I " she took a few ragged breaths
"Kagome.....what are you trying..."
"I'm trying to say....I'm like a caged bird..... and it isn't all it's cracked up to be......... all those years..... I let my cautioness get...... get in the way......of tellling you.....that ....that.... I AHHHHHHH" she screamed in pain.
"KAGOME" he screamed
"Inu.....Yasha..."
"No.... I'll get you to Keade's ..she'll heal you.....just please....please don't give up" he sobbed harder as he picked up her frail form.
"I have to tell you...... that I.....I AHHHHHH ...I love.....you..."
she took a deep breath and slowly exhaled before her head fell limp on his shoulder.
Her body became awfully still and her breathing slowed to a stop. Her body became cold and her aura felt that of the dead, such as Kikyo.
"Kagome.....KAGOME......KUSO KAGOME WAKE UP...... KAGOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
he screamed into the pouring heavens. He sat there for hours clutching onto her body for dear life. Sobs racked through out his body.

Finally after hours, InuYasha returned to the small hut.
"INUYASHA" the three chorused as they raced to his side.
"InuYasha what happened?" Sango questioned.
InuYasha was silent as he lowered the dead body.
"Is that......... but Kagome can't be........she's ....... she's dead" Sango sobbed as Miroku pulled her in to a tight embrace.
Shippoe came scrambling outside the hut.
"Sango what's wrong? Where's Kagome?" he cried.
Shippoe crawled up InuYasha's shoulder and screamed at the sight of his Okaa-san's dead body.
"KAGOME" screamed the kitsune.

Ten years later.
InuYasha was sitting under the Goshinbuku.
The wind swayed through his silvery locks.
No longer did the golden eyes watch over the Goshinbuku, but this time it was a pair of chocolate brown eyes. He felt her presence with him all through out the decade she had been gone. Particularly when he sat in the large tree. He felt her sitting next to him. At times he could even swear he heard her spirit saying 'I love you'.
A raven flew by. It reminded InuYasha of Kagome's raven locks. The raven paused for a brief moment, only to look at InuYasha .The raven had the same brown eyes Kagome had.
"We'll meet again in due time, my love" The eyes seem to say.
How ironic it was to him. Once his eyes haunted her every move, nowit was hers that haunted him.
The raven, as quickly as it had come, left.
"Hai in due time, Kagome" InuYasha said before closing his eyes one final time.
