Calling Your Name

~Jasmine Fields~

//Let me say once more that I love you//

//Let me say one time maybe two//

//That I love the way that you love me//

Bawling violently, she bowed to each of her friends, weeping her lamentation, taking hold of the Jewel of Four Souls in her tremulous hands.

//And I wish I knew more of you//

She would treasure the myriad of fond adventures that each protector and friend standing so near enriched her life with. In their memory, she promised to burn incense and say prayers for their happiness daily.

Perhaps laughter would find a way to her again, but for now, unashamedly, her dirt stained cheeks were gifted with a life time's dowry of salty tears.

//Tell me that time can't erase//

//This look of love on your face//

For all his arrogance and complexity, her gaze softened on Kouga, who truly pulled his courage together for the cruelest battle of his life. Leaning down to place a sorrowful kiss on her cheek, he whispered words of quiet poetry. His display of sincere brokenness as he drowned in his heart's bereavement was evidenced by tears bathing his eyes to look on `his woman' for the last time.

She chanced a hug from him, fully loving him, as only she could, apologizing for her blindness and stubborn streak.

//Let me say once more that I needyou//

//One more time or maybe two//

History didn't ever know it, but Sango would live strong and happy…the way her father dreamed for both of his children.

…That was her same hope for the demon slayer. Hell had been her life. Suffering did not spare her mere lip service. She was anchored in spite of what ever turmoil hastened her direction. Her heart was soft, but that internal fortitude…

Kagome envied it, for the very first time, refusing to break their mutual embrace.

//My life will always be richer//

//For the time I've spent here with you/

Finally, the damn Shikon was restored and purified…and it had come time to face this horror - of the worst kind.

//Let me say once more that I loveyou//

//Let me say one time maybe two//

//That I love the way that you love me//

Miroku silently offered a hand to her. Catching it, willingly she allowed him to hug her to him self.

Usually, an additional advance comforted and stilled her spirit, reassuring her that reality was not such a wicked creature. When his normally wandering hands rested on her shoulders, and lingered, prophecy of her future bare down like a ton of bricks.

With a smile, she would have pretended that the overcast day was just another day, instead of a reflection of her heart.

//And I want to know more of you//

"Don't cry"

Wiping her own free fallen tears speaking the words, with her utmost efforts struggled to console her friends.

//Tell me that time won't erase//

//The way that my heart sees your face//

Even Sesshoumaru and Jaken were respectfully solemn, causing no quarrel among them.

They both nodded and Rin bowed when she passed by to consider her actions toward them.

In her heart, she would even love these demons and child, in spite of the sporadic interaction she had with them. After all, they were part of her Feudal Era experience.

She would reminisce later, when her grief subsided.

//Let me say once more that I love you//

Hugging Shippo, she shed bitter tears as she handed him a favorite treat to ease his heartache. That and she felt a sense of normalcy with the gesture.

//My life will always be richer//

//For the time I've spent here with you//

"I love you"

//I call your name//

//You look my way//

//It's clear you trust each word I say//

"Kagome…it's time"

Her farewells said, Inuyasha guided her by the elbow to the edge of the Bone-Eater's well.

//When life is long and problemscome//

//You'll always be my only one//

Jumping, with her backpack, into the well, with her best friend and love escorting her, she made her way to the era in which she was born and raised - to her home, regardless of where her heart was eternally captured.

//So now we're standing face to face//

//And with one look your eyes embrace me//

Holding hands as they walked to the shrine, both apprehensive and nearly panicked over the worst, she refused to ruin the moment.

Upon exchanging glances, he bent forward to steal her lips in a passionately unexpected kiss.

//You squeeze away each haunting fear//

//Say the words I long to hear//

"Stupid girl," he said holding her to his heart, as she handed him the jewel that caused never ending terror.

"We'll see each other again," his voice laced with guilt and melancholy. Virtually defeated by grief burdening his heart, he caressed her cheek and jaw then kissed her once more.

He was her true strength, speaking the hope that she did not feel.

"Live well" she spoke confidently.

…But, when he departed, her soul abandoned itself slipping into utterly lost despair.

//Let me say once more that I love you//

//One more time or just maybe two//

Morning promised another day of routine and purposeless bustle in the city. Her kind of lifestyle was what her past friends fought and bled for. Her only contribution to help them envision the vastness of the future came with sharing the wealth of knowledge and comforts of her time to them.

Not knowing how they would live wasn't what caused her heart sickness.

Knowing she would not partake in their lives anymore killed her.

In the bedroom distinctly hers, Kagome, at last, in her own time, fell asleep screaming into her down pillows, on her own mattress, clutching her sheets with balled-up fists cursing the heavens.

She didn't want to wake up in the morning, no matter what.

//That I love the way you love me and I wish I knew more of you//
