Higurashi Kagome ran as fast as she could. There was no stopping; she had to find her way. Her heart was racing, but she had no time to stop to catch her breath, for fear that she wouldn’t make it in time. She looked behind her and saw those following, but she had no time to stop- she would not make it if she did.

Finally, she saw the building--her savior--and she sprinted the last fifteen feet, sliding to a stop at the door, and just as she was about to open the door, she looked behind her to look at them. With that one split second that she turned her head behind her and back, a loud bell rang in her ears, and she knew that she hadn’t been able to make it. She thrust the door open and hoping beyond all hope that he wasn’t there yet, looked fearfully around the room, eyes watching her from various parts of the room.

“Ms. Higurashi, you’re tardy. Again. This is the fourth time, detention. Take your seat, and that goes for you, too, Connor, Celine, and Sadie-” who fell forward when she was pushed by a panting Jamie who couldn’t stop on time. Both crashed to the ground and the class snickered at them from their seats. Mr. Cook, the second year history teacher, sighed a long, sarcastic sigh, “Jamie too? Come on you guys, pathetic, pathetic. Maybe you guys should unleash yourselves from each other and take your seats; I’ll give you your detentions later. Hell, maybe I’ll forget and you’ll get lucky, we’ll see.”

Kagome groaned and took her seat in the middle of the room next to her friends. She knew that today would be a very bad day for her--she had just talked to InuYasha on the phone and it had all gone wrong. She definitely had not wanted him to know about those dreams; she was supposed to be innocent, little Kagome! But, in the end, it didn’t even matter, because he was having the same thoughts. Why had they been having the same dreams, and how were they linked?

And, that was how Kagome spent the rest of the period: pondering the situation and failing her test. At the end of class, Mr. Cook didn’t forget about the detentions and passed them out witch quite a bounce in his step. Damn.

After the rest of her periods, luckily not being tardy for any others, Kagome left for the detention hall. After about three hours of brutal, boring Hell, she headed back to her dorm and her strange group decided to actually go off and do their homework for once--that was a big change in Kagome’s point of view. She chuckled to herself as she though of the fact that this was probably the first time that they had actually left her completely alone for quite some time now. It was dark out now so she took the stairs to her dorm two at a time and walked quickly into her dorm soon afterwards.

“Carol, I’m back--and they’re actually not here!” she exclaimed, expecting to be blasted with rock music from the grunge room next to hers. When no reply came she knocked on her door, also gaining no reply. Kagome frowned; Carol was usually home before her. She walked into the kitchen and noticed a note on the table from Carol. She read it over and her frown disappeared. Rock concert. Figures.

Humming, Kagome walked into her room and plopped down her stuff to the side of her bed and flopped herself onto it face first. Suddenly she felt a stabbing in her thigh and jumped up in pain. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a mechanical pencil. Great, now she had lead in her leg.

She stood up and unzipped her black jeans, pulling them down her legs and tossing them across the room. She looked up in modesty to make sure no one was there, and noticed that her door was open. She was about to get up to shut it, even though she was alone, but she didn’t want to look stupid, even to herself, so she left it open. She sat down on her bed and spread her legs to inspect the wound which happened to end up in the crook where her thigh met her lower abdomen. Curse large pockets. Grabbing tweezers off the night stand next to her, she shoved the pointed end into her leg and winced, pulling the short piece of graphite from her skin.

Setting the tweezers back down, she got up to get her pants, but noticed that she had left her closet open that morning in her rush to get to school. She walked over to it and moved to close it, but something gleamed in her eye from the shine of her nightstand light. She opened the closet more and saw the kimono that InuYasha gave her’s golden embroidery was what was shining in her eyes. She frowned; she hadn’t taken it out in a while. Knowing that no one else was home, she stripped from her clothes and was about to pull it over her shoulders when the phone rang. She dropped the kimono to the ground and rushed out to answer it.

“Kagome? Hey, Connor here. Are you still coming with us tonight?” Kagome’s eyebrows furrowed, then shot up when she remembered that she was supposed to go out to some new club that night.

“Yeah, I guess I am. Uhg, I totally forgot.”

“Well….you’re still going, right?” Kagome noticed the hint of worry in his voice, and the way he hesitated a bit.

“Yeah. Why, what’s wrong?”

“Oh, nothing. I just didn’t want you to miss out. I’d better let you go so you can get ready, hope you look great tonight! Bye.”

“Okay, talk to you later then,” she said as she hung the phone up and walked out of the room into the bathroom to start the shower. She walked back into her room and picked up her lavish kimono and folded it, setting it on the bed. She picked up her clothes and tossed them into the dirty clothes hamper, returning soon after to the shower. Sticking her hand under the water to see if it was warm yet, she winced and pulled her hand back out of the scolding hot water. She stripped of her clothes and stepped into the shower, turning on the shower radio.

Kagome shut off the water and dried herself off ten minutes later and returned to her room to dress herself for the night. She put on a simple black spaghetti strapped dress that cut off from mid thigh swooping down to stop mid calf, with light blue trimming. She put her hair up in a sloppy bun/pony tail and put mascara on her lashes before grabbing her cell phone and locking the door behind her.

--

DUN DUN CHEE DUN-DUN DUN-DUN CHEE. Somebody scream!” That was all Kagome heard for the next three hours. She swayed to what the strange Americans called music, which consisted of one beat all night and four or five words. The whole time Connor was dancing practically on top of her it was so packed, and she didn’t feel the least bit comfortable.

Hey guys! This is kind of fuckin’ loud! I’m going to go to the bathroom, I’ll be back in a minute,” she yelled to them, not caring that they hadn’t paid any attention to her, silently thanking that she could be alone for a few minutes.

She strode into the bathroom weaving her way through the half drunken people sitting in puddles of alcohol, stopping in front of the sink and laying her head in her hands. ‘Damn, I’m in the fuckin’ woofer now! I need out of here.’ she was shook out of her thoughts when someone pushed her aside to wretch in the sink she was in front of, and she watched as the woman slung the chunky liquid around and in her hair, laughing as she feel to the floor. Kagome wrinkled her nose in disgust, and fled from the bathroom.

After she miraculously got herself out of the club, the disgruntled young miko stood out by the trash cans in the back, breathing in the smoggy night air, silently wishing upon the single star that was clinging to the sky that she was in the feudal era, where the air was clean and no one even knew what a club was.

“Hey, Kags! Where’d you go?” Kagome silently groaned; Connor was the last person she wanted to talk to. But, she plastered her façade on and smiled at him when she turned around.

“Hey Connor, just out here. I needed some air,” she said turning around and lowering her smile. She heard him move towards her and she felt his arm drape over her shoulder and she cringed, squirming under his touch and trying to get away. He sighed and let go of her shoulders, before turning her to face him. He was looking down, his eyes hidden underneath his mess of curly bangs. She cocked her head to the side, much like InuYasha had done many times in the past, wondering if something was wrong. She opened her mouth to ask, but was cut off.

“Kagome… look, I know we haven’t known each other for much more than a year, but I think. . . I think that in this short amount of time I have fallen in love with- with you,” he blurted out, earning wide eyes and a blush from the woman of his attention.

“Connor, I-” a hand to her shoulder cut her off, and Kagome looked straight into his eyes merely inches away from hers. ‘Wh-what is he going to do!?’ she worried her bottom lip between her teeth when he slowly inched closer.

“Kagome, stay with me. Will you go out with me?” she gasped, slightly light headed from the blunt, sudden question. Images of InuYasha flowed through her mind as he quickly fastened his lips to hers. Her eyes widened. This felt nothing like when she had kissed InuYasha. Then there was passion, love, want. Now . . . there was only that sick feeling in her stomach that she got every time souta watched that demented American show when the kitten fell from the roof into something and blood splattered onto the wall.

Yes, she thought at that moment that she would wretch. Quickly, she pulled away from him, bringing her trembling hand up to her mouth and shook her head, fleeing off toward the street in desperate need of a taxi.

----

The ride home felt worse than when she was riding to the airport that day a year ago. She had to stop the taxi twice so she could vomit out the door. No, she wasn’t disgusted with Connor. He was quite attractive for an American. It wasn’t him, it was InuYasha. What would he say when she told him she had kissed another man? She squinted her eyes, trying to hold back the tears forming from her thoughts.

When she made it back to her dorm, she immediately ran to her room and flung herself on the bed, noticing that Carol was still gone, probably high or drunk. She lifted her head and wiped her eyes, the first thing she saw was the kimono. She barely remembered leaving it on the bed, but weather she left it on the bed or not, the silky, yet course material made tears pour freely from her eyes.

She slowly got up and removed her clothes, underwear included, for she felt disgusting in every article of clothing she wore, and pulled it around her shoulders, hugging it closely to her. She was about to tie the obi when she heard something burst through the door that she left unlocked. Some unknown force compelled her to stay frozen, her robes covering only the sides of her thin body, half of her thinking it was carol, half of it thinking it was not. She heard someone mutter a curse from the dark room outside of hers, and she knew that it wasn’t carol.

Still, she stayed glued to her spot, even when the door of her room came open with a crash, hitting the wall behind it, knocking a gaping hole in the wall where the handle had been. . .

--

InuYasha tapped his fingers impatiently, four on the armrest of the hideous taxi he rode in, two on the little velvet case in his other hand. The objects and lights whizzing past him made him nauseous, and he was forced to clench his eyes shut and his jaw down trying to keep the bile down more than once. Jii-chan looked towards him many times during the trip, half concerned, the other half just not wanting to get thrown up on.

His stomach gave a sickening lurch when the taxi cab came to a sudden stop in front of a hotel. InuYasha looked up to watch Kagome’s grandfather exit the cab and grab his bags, soon after telling the driver the directions to Kagome’s school. Once again, InuYasha took in a deep breath and closed his eyes. He felt the cab lurch to a start and head off in the direction it was told. He laid his head against the cold window and sat there, in that cab. Waiting, waiting for his destination to arrive.

“Hey, you wanna wake up and get out now? The meters running, buddy,” InuYasha looked up and glared at the man for his loud, Arabic voice- though speaking English. He rolled his eyes when the man repeated his last sentence, and quickly InuYasha unbuckled his seatbelt and opened the door, saying in a very slurred accent the one phrase he managed to learn in English, “I do not speak English.”

He grabbed his bags and slammed the door shut, very quickly darted towards the biggest building I could find, not noticing the man screaming at him for not paying.

The woman clerk at the main attendance office started when she heard the doors come crashing open, and she backed away when a tall, well built, and long haired Japanese man came a foot from her face. “M-may I help you?” she asked but the man looked as if he didn’t hear the words at all.

“Do you speak Japanese?” was her only answer and she frowned. Wasn’t it mandatory that the students learn English, at least some, before they enrolled? He did look a bit too old for school, though. ‘Well, there are a lot of dumb-ass druggies without an education here.’ her mind stated to her. She nodded her head in response, and heard, roughly, that he was asking where Kagome Higurashi resided.

“Building D room twenty-seven, sir, are you related?” she questioned, but he was out the door before the question could reach his ears, without so much as a thank you.

--

“This building has a…uh…’G’ on it,” the human-hanyou stated to himself, looking at his alphabet translation sheet that Kagome’s Jii-chan had printed out for him back in Japan. He frowned looking around at all the buildings with the foreign letters painted on their sides. He strutted around a building and finally saw a building with the weird circle-half letter. The one with a line in it, at least. Jeez, English was confusing. He circled the building a few times until he found he found the--at least what looked like--the main door, and yanked on the knob, lurching himself forward and almost into the door. He frowned and knocked a few times until a middle-aged-looking woman came to the door and opened it.

“What is it? Can’t you see that it’s three in the morning?” the woman growled out at him, obviously angered at being disturbed from her mid-shift-nap. InuYasha just pushed his way past the woman and took off down the hall.

The woman just figured that he was a student and went back to her desk to resume her napping.

InuYasha’s heart pounded as he sped down the halls, a jolt of adrenaline hitting him the moment he got through the lobby door. He stopped at the end of the hallway, looking at the last room with the big digits ‘D-23’ pained in large letters on the side of the door, and he spun around quickly, finding himself looking up a flight of stairs. He sped up them as quickly as he could in his powered-down human form, and ran down the hall until he reached D-27. He reached out for the handle, but hesitated at the last moment.

‘Aw, shit, why the hell am I having second thoughts now?’ even though he realized that it would be ridiculous to back out now, he still had to wonder to himself; was she even home? What if she was busy at the moment and didn’t want him interrupting? He took a big gulp of air (because he was out of saliva at the moment)

Did she even want him there?

InuYasha glared daggers at himself and forced himself to push those thoughts behind him and grab the handle, pushing open the door fiercely, practically falling through the air since he half expected it to be locked. He looked around the small dorm, curious as to why everything seemed to be so…black and dark, yet extremely clean. He started to walk around the dark dorm and began opening doors. He was about to open the door that was currently on his left (which would be Carol’s room, but he didn’t know that yet) when he noticed a light on in the other room, the room with the door cracked open slightly.

Cautiously, InuYasha slid open the door and started looking around the room, when his eyes became glued to one spot in the room, on particular spot that lit quite a fire in his groins. Kagome. Kagome, with his kimono, the only thing she had on what-so-ever, draped sloppily over her shoulders, bending down, her breasts fully exposed and her upper thighs just barely visible through the flow of her hair. He felt himself grow very, very hot when all of the sudden she screamed and clenched her eyes shut, and pulled the kimono fully over her, backing into the corner of the room.

If InuYasha had been hanyou at the moment, he was sure that he would have gone completely deaf for at least a week.

When she stopped screaming and finally re-opened her eyes they grew wide, and he saw tears forming in them. He saw her lips move as if she wanted to say something, before he could finally hear a raspy ‘In-InuYasha?’ come from low in her throat. He was just about to take a step forward when she launched herself at him, full bodied, grasping his neck with both arms and latching both legs, now uncovered, around his waist.

He tried to gasp in air from his poor cut-off lungs, when she sprung off him and--once again-- launched herself at him, this time face into face. He just stood there, in a sort of statue like state, as she kissed his lips and cheeks and neck and he finally shook himself out of it and pushed her backwards, onto her bed, and very lightly put his lips to hers. She was shocked, to say in the least, to have gone from miserable to scared to, well, quite hot and excited and extremely happy in two seconds flat.

He pulled away after a few moments and looked her straight in her half-lidded eyes. “Well, I’m glad your happy to see me,” he said with a smirk and a nuzzle. She gave him one of the brightest smiles he thought he’d ever seen on her face before.

“How could you think that I wouldn’t be, baka?” she replied, feeling good about the fact that she was speaking fully in Japanese again. She looked down to see what he was wearing, and it was then that she noticed their position: her legs spread out quite far with him in-between them, the kimono forgotten laying underneath them, and his face very, very close to her exposed breasts.

Now, with most other people this wouldn’t matter so much, since he had seen all of her body before anyways, usually on accident -or purpose- at a hot spring, but modesty got the best of her and she began to squirm under him, desperate to try and hide her body from his eyes, but this just got him to realize what position they were in, too, and he quickly pinned her arms with his hands and her legs with his. Her eyes widened and cheeks became very red when he swooped his head down and licked a long, slow path from her collarbone to her pulse on her neck. He pulled away and looked her very seriously in the eyes.

“Kagome, I didn’t come here to just visit, but… I have something very, er, important to ask you.” she just laid there, waiting for him to ask it. She realized that he probably wasn’t going to continue without a push, so she cocked her head to the side and raised her eyebrows at him.

“Kagome, would you…” he hesitated again, but realized that hesitating wasn’t getting him anywhere, so he shut his eyes and finally got out, in a very low voice, “Kagome, would you mar- uh mat- er, marry me?”

He laid there in suspense and slowly opened his eyes when she gave no response, only to come face to face with a crying Kagome. His eyes widened and he very quickly pushed himself off her, only to be pulled back down and squeezed very tightly around the neck, again.

“Yes. Yes, yes yes yes yes yesyesyesyesyes!” she practically screamed out after the question played its way through her mind a million and one times. She pushed him back far enough to capture his lips in a kiss and she drug her tongue along his lips, and feeling his make its way into and around her mouth. Her tears dried soon after and she found herself alone on the bed, sitting up and watching InuYasha as he pulled off his shirt and pants, showing her that he was truthfully fully human this night.

She gulped and quickly turned away from him, only to feel her bed sink under his weight when he climbed back on it. She felt his arms circle around her shoulders and breasts, and she felt his hot breath on her neck.

“Is this all right?” he asked. She turned a bit to show him that she didn’t understand and he continued, “I know that this is why your mother kept you from me, and we’re not married yet. And, well, are you sure your ready?” he felt her nod and smiled a bit, “I don’t want to push you into anything you don’t want to do, or that you’ll regret.”

“My mother is not me. And, I don’t regret anything that is you, InuYasha,” with that he pulled away from her and eased her slowly down onto the bed.
