(Theme: Flowers)

---
Kneeling in the sunlight streaming through the castle windows, the Inu-no-Taisho contemplated the selection before him. Finally, he picked bamboo stalks, cherry branches and a single lily from the pile, skilfully arranging them into something of beauty.

"I always find this talent of yours surprising, Taisho-Sama. You always seem more the type to piss on flowers than display them."

The Dog General snorted, amused at his watching lieutenant. "A warrior should appreciate the beauty of all things, Kisho. You should try it."

"I'm not into plucking things that'll die quickly just because they're pretty and they smell sweet."

The Lord's knuckles went white although his voice was calm.

"What would you do?"

"Leave the flowers in the field where they should be, with their own kind. I can see them whenever I feel the urge away from here. My room smells of armour, swords and Inu-Youkai, not blossoms."

"What if someone destroyed the field, or plucked the one I wanted?" He gestured offhand to the flowers. "I wish my comforts to be close to enjoy when I want. In a few days they will be gone."

"Flowers die so much quicker when cut, My Lord."

"Isn't it better for them to die appreciated than linger unnoticed?"

"Did you ever ask a flower?"

Hours later, the Inu-No-Taisho's outward indifference splintered as he reverently touched Izayoi's petal-soft skin. She whimpered in her nightmare, one hand on her swelling stomach.

No, he hadn't asked.

What if he couldn't bear the answer?
