Chapter 2
Preparing
Last time: “So are you going to go back to your time on your birthday like Inuyasha told you to?”
Kagome replied, “I might as well, now that I have more room in my backpack I guess I can go back and get more ramen and some sweets. It's almost winter so I might get some warmer sleeping bags. I don't know.”
That night Kagome was unable to sleep. She thought that there was someone outside the hut because she was hearing things. But when she got up to see no one was there.
Unknown to her a pair of violet eyes continued to watch her.
Now:
Kagome woke early the next morning. Slowly she left the hut and went for a walk. The sun was not yet coming into the sky when she set off. First she went to the temple. There is were she found Kaede. The elderly woman was growing weaker, but she would not take an apprentice. Kagome stepped toward the priestess and said.
“Lady Kaede? Why will you not take an apprentice?”
When the Kaede didn't answer Kagome went to look at the shops that had come into the village. The shops were a large group of traveling merchants that sold and or traded goods in villages as they traveled. The owners of the shops had left their signs out so that people could see what kind of things they had. Most of the signs however were mostly pictures. Kagome liked to see the things the stores had. It reminded her of a small shopping mall. This made her laugh a little. As the sun was becoming brighter in the sky kagome left the village and went to Inuyashas' tree.
When she reached the tree she looked at it for a moment. This is were she first saw Inuyasha. She sat at the base of the tree and thought about the past several years of time she had spent in the past. They had made many friends and enemies. With a sigh Kagome pulled her knees to her chest and put her forehead n her knees.
The violet eyes that had been watching Kagome since she came threw the well followed Kagome to the temple and to the old tree. Now that the eyes had found kagome completely alone they started moving on one her. Slowly the being crept closer listening with dog ears. After a moment the ears found that Kagome had fallen asleep again
Inuyasha had spent the night sleeping in a tree near Toto-sai's work shop. The old man woke him shortly after the sun rose above the mountains with his hammering. At first he tired to go back to sleep but found this useless. So he journeyed back to the spider demons hut. When he arrived there he found that the old woman was not yet awake. But it was only a little after sun rise so he left her alone. Not knowing what to do while waiting for his gifts for Kagome to be ready Inuyasha sat and started to clean and sharpen his blade.
As he sharpened Tetsusaiga he thought about Kagome. Inuyasha found himself thinking about her more and more now. He had fallen in love with her years ago but was not the kind of guy to say it. He also didn't know exactly how she felt about him. Putting away the Tetsusaiga Inuyasha pulled out the dagger that Kagome had given him. Looking at it again he read `From Kagome, To my beloved Inuyasha. Inuyasha then suddenly stuffed the dagger back into the hiding place he had made for it in his Haori.
Inuyasha knew that the cold was coming, he could smell and feel it. Kagome and the others normally had warm things to be dressed in but it was still hard on everyone.
Winter was a bad time for everyone in this area. It could get so cold and some didn't have what was needed to stay warm or feed, so they would die. Inuyasha thought about this and it made him shiver.
With the thought of Kagome being too cold he jumped from the tree he was in and walked back to the old spider demons hut. He didn't want Kagome to be cold. By the time he got there it was almost noon. When he got there he found the old one waiting for him.
“Come young one I have your cloths ready, what color do you wish for them to be?”
Asked the old demon spider,
“I want the Hakama pants to be dark green, the outer Haori to be dark blue and the under Haori to be a blue green color. You can do that right?”
was his reply.
The old spider said,
“Ai, I can have that done by the end of the day, come back then and I will have it done.”
Inuyasha turned to leave but stopped.
“Let me see the material for a moment first”
The old demon handed him the outer Haori and watched as Inuyasha inspected it. After testing its strength against his claws he found that it held up well to them and would protect Kagome from miner injuries, like his own did. Inuyasha handed the old one the Haori and with a nod he left. Now he walked back to Toto-sai and his work shop.
When Kagome heard a sound in her sleep she snapped her head up to see what made the sound. All she saw was a light brown tail. Now that Kagome felt that someone was watching her she felt it was best that she go back into the village. The sun was up and the rest of the group should have been awake by now.
As Kagome walked she saw that most of the village was awake and either working in the fields already or still eating their morning meal. Winter was coming and everyone knew it. The villagers were drying meat and fish and fruits and vegetables and making large stores of food so that they had enough to eat for the winter.
Kagome saw that while the females of the village made cloths and dried food the men worked on cutting wood and storing it in a safe dry place. That's when she saw Shippo, who was fishing in the river. The villagers and made a special cage of bamboo that would prevent fish large enough to eat from getting out. Shippo was outside this cage catching fish for the morning meal. He was throwing every other fish he caught into the caged area for the villagers.
Kagome stood next to the river and said to Shippo,
“So we are having fish, again?”
Shippo climbed from the river and said,
“Yes but for supper I am going to catch red meat!”
Kagome smiled and they walked back to the hut and found Miroku still sleeping and Sango making a fire for the morning meal. After making the meal they all sat down to eat. Sango asked,
“Kagome, when do you plan on going back to your time?”
Kagome replied,
“Well I plan on leavening tomorrow and I will be back the day after. I am going to switch the sleeping bags we have now for warmer ones. I also plan on getting more food. This way we don't have to hunt too much this year. Is there anything you guys want me to bring back?”
Shippo and Sango thought about it for a moment then Shippo said,
“Could you bring some pokey and some of that chocolate stuff, Oh and hard candy too?”
Sango then added,
“Just come back with a smile on your face.”
Kagome giggle, and then said,
“I think I will bring some of those salts you like too Sango.”
At that they all laughed and finished eating. The rest of the day was uneventful. Shippo left shortly after eating to go hunting. When he came back he had several rabbits. That night they had rabbit stew with some potatoes and carrots.
When Inuyasha reached Toto-sai and his work shop he found that the old man had finished the weapons already. As Inuyasha approached the old mans work shop he called,
“I have finished these weapons. Now take them and be gone!”
Inuyasha took the weapons and growled,
“Feh! There is a bath ready for you old man.”
With that he leaped away and went back to the old spiders hut. There he found that she had already finished the clothing and they were neatly folded outside her huts door. Inuyasha picked up the cloths and notice that they were tied together with a sash. Looking closer he saw the sash was the same color as the under Haori.
With Kagome's gifts in hand Inuyasha dashed back to the village. He traveled as fast as he could until mid night, then he stopped for a rest.
The next morning Kagome and the rest of the group woke about two hours after sun rise. They eat leftovers for the morning meal. Then Sango helped Kagome pack her things and together the small group of friends went to the well. Kagome said good bye to all her friend then jump into the well, going back to her time.
The owner of the violet eyes watched this scene play out before them. When the even smaller group left the clearing around the well the eyes moved to the well and jumped into it. They and their owner then went into the future and into Kagomes time.
Sango, Shippo and Miroku walked back to the village unaware of the eyes waiting for them to leave. Shippo suddenly spoke up when they were halfway to the village. He said,
“Hey! Why don't we throw a party for Kagome when she comes back!? She would like that I think.”
Sango nodded and said,
“I think that would be a great idea, when Inuyasha comes back we can run the idea past him. Even if he doesn't like the idea then we will still do it. Do you have any idea what you want to do?”
Miroku chipped in by adding,
“We should have a picnic then go to the hot springs!”
Sango glared at Miroku for a moment then said,
“I think the picnic is a good idea but not the hot springs. We should all go into the village and see if there is anything we want to get her.”
Both the males nodded and the hurried into the village to start and search for gifts for their friend.
When Inuyasha woke the next morning he worked his way back to the village. He hurried because he was hoping that he would be able to say bye to Kagome before she left. As Inuyasha traveled the remaining miles to the village he ran into a demon. It was a miner demon and he did away with it in almost no time.
As Inuyasha arrived at Kaedes hut he found that Kagome and his companions were not there. Inuyasha hid is gifts for Kagome in the hut then hurried off to the well. When he got there he found Kagome's and the others senses. They were sort of fresh so Inuyasha figured that Kagome had already left.
Inuyasha turned to leave when another scent caught his attention. He couldn't quite place it, but it was sort of familiar to him. Inuyasha dismissed this and simply thinking that it was a minor demon. He couldn't smell blood so he knew that there had been no fight.
With that Inuyasha dashed off to the village to find his friends. What Inuyasha didn't realize was that the scent he had caught was not only near the well but it also went down and into the well.
After looking for a while Inuyasha found Shippo at an herbs hut. Inuyasha stood behind the boy and asked,
“Shippo what are you doing?”
Apon hearing Inuyasha Shippo turned around and looked up at him. Then he answered,
“I am getting Kagome some herbs for when she goes to the hot springs. They are supposed to be good for your skin. Kagome left and hour or so ago by the way.”
With that Shippo turned around to continue his business with the herbal master. Inuyasha turned and went looking for the others. Soon he found Sango at the wood carvers stall. Sango was looking at little figures and as Inuyasha walked up she was pointing out one that she thought that kagome might like. Inuyasha asked,
“Your getting something for Kagome too aren't you?”
Sango simply nodded and waved Inuyasha away while she was trying to get the price for the little carving to go down. Inuyasha growled at the young woman which ignored him then walked off to find the monk. When he found him he was at a clothing stall. This made Inuyasha uneasy. He growled,
“What are you doing monk?”
Miroku turned and said,
“I am getting lone cloths and tops.”
Inuyasha was confused by this so he asked,
“Why would you do that? It's almost winter.”
Miroku laughed at the confused hanyou and said,
“If the ladies are covered then they won't mind us men joining them in the hot springs.”
Miroku and Inuyasha walked off back to the hut and Inuyasha said,
“For once monk, I like the way you think.”
Shippo, Sango and Miroku all entered the village and started searching for a gift for their friend. Shippo knew that Kagome liked bath salts so he went looking for some. After searching for a long time he found an herbalist that sold herbs that you put in a spring before bathing in it. After a moment of looking over the different herbs he asked a few questions about some of them. Shippo heard Inuyasha behind him so he turned around. They talked for a while and went Inuyasha left Shippo went back to looking.
Shippo talked with the herbalist about the herbs and found that he liked two of them. One smelt like rain and the other smelt like roses. Kagome always smelt good, to him she smelt like spring. That's part of why he liked her so much. Because he couldn't pick one Shippo traded some of his fox magic items for two bags of both. The herbalist told him that they made you smell good and that it was good for your skin. After making the trade Shippo scurried off back to the hut to wrap his gifts in some material that he had found.
Sango walked among the different stalls looking at most of them. Some had herbs for cooking, other had weapons while still more had carvings. Sango looked at the herbs but then remembered that Kagome had said that she would bring some from home. Then she looked at the weapons, at first it was for Kagome but then she got carried away and was awe struck by how well the weapons were crafted. After pulling herself away from the weapons she saw the wood carving stall.
Sango moved over to this stall to take a look. She looked among the wonderfully crafted carvings and saw that most where of Buddha or of some other god or religious figure. But after looking further she found that there were some animal carvings and a few demon carvings even. Sango looked and saw one that looked exactly like Inuyasha and she pointed that one out.
Suddenly Inuyasha was talking to her but she waved him off. Then Sango went back to looking and saw a larger carving that had two females' two males and a younger child sided figure along with a large creature beside them. This hit Sango and she thought that it looked a lot like there little group. Pointing at that one and grinning she traded a bone knife for it. Sango took the statue and carried it back to the hut.
Miroku knew exactly what he wanted to get Kagome. The only thing was that he didn't want to get it just for Kagome but for the entire group. Slowly the monk walked to the clothing's stall and asked for what he was looking for. When the owner showed him what he was looking for the monk traded some charms for them. After getting what he wanted he ran into Inuyasha and explained his give to him. Together they walked back to the hut.
Shippo, Sango, Miroku and Inuyasha all got to the hut at about the same time. The entered and showed off their gifts, all but Miroku and Inuyasha. Miroku wanted to keep his a surprise so that Sango would not kill him before the party. Inuyasha wanted his to stay a surprise for all. After showing their gifts Shippo and Sango wrapped them and put them in the corner of the hut.
When everything was settled Sango and Shippo started to plan the picnic. That's when Inuyasha said,
“What picnic?”
Sango answered,
“That's right you were not here when we decided to do a picnic for Kagome when she comes back form her time. We are going to have a little picnic and it will be like a party for Kagomes birthday!”
Inuyasha then asked,
“What are we going to be having of the picnic?”
Shippo then spoke up and said,
“Some fish, fruits, nuts, and vegetables.”
Inuyasha responded,
“Feh! That will not do! This is what we are going to do instead. Shippo, You and I are going to go hunt down a dear. Sango you go into town and get the best fruits and vegetables you can get. Miroku you are going to find a large blanket, it has to be huge though after you get the blanket I need you to find lots and lots of fire wood, got it?”
Everyone simply stared at Inuyasha a moment then grinned. Shippo and Inuyasha went into the forest and Inuyasha showed Shippo how to track dear. Shippo was glad that for once Inuyasha was not hitting him on the head or yelling at him. After about and hour of tracking they found a large young doe. Shippo was getting big enough now that he could take down a dear. Inuyasha showed him how to hold his dagger and were to cut.
Slowly Shippo crept closer to dear. When he was about close enough to pounce on the dear it spooked and took off running. Shippo stood strait and watched the dear go. With a heavy sigh he walked back to were Inuyasha had been hiding and said,
“I messed up didn't it?”
Inuyasha grinned and said,
“Heh, you didn't mess up, the dear spooked is all. Now let's go find us another dear.”
Then Inuyasha stood up and they started to track the dear again. Inuyasha and Shippo walked side by side and Inuyasha's hand rested on the young fox demons shoulder. After a while of tracking they found the dear again. Inuyasha hide and watched as the young boy crept closer to the dear. With a strong leap Shippo landed on the dears back, with a swift strike the dear was dead.
Inuyasha walked up to Shippo who was standing over the now dead dear. Inuyasha picked the dear up and said,
“You did well; she didn't even know what hit her. Now lets get this back to the village to skin so we can get the food for the picnic ready.”
Shippo and Inuyasha then left the forest with a small grin on their faces.
Sango did as Inuyasha asked and went into town with a large basket; going to each of the venders she got the best fruits and vegetables. Most of what she was getting she was planning on drying, but the best was going to be for Kagomes party. As a last minute thought Sango got thinks so she could bake bread. When she ran out of things to trade Sango went back to the hut, were she stared to prepare food.
Miroku had found the larges blanket and gotten it. As he carried it back to the hut he found that it was so heavy he had a little trouble walking. Quickly he stored the blanket. Then he went off to find fire wood. By five that evening everyone had come back to the hut with what they had been asked to get.
Miroku had gathered wood and lots off it. Inuyasha and shown Shippo how to skin a dear and how to dry meat. They took the best parts and started to slow cook it for the picnic tomorrow. The rest of the meat was drying so they had plenty of food for their travels.
For rest of the day and some into the night Sango made food. She baked breads and put fruit in it, or she made other treats. Inuyasha watched the meat as it cooked. They cooked the meat slowly so that when Kagome came back two days later, it would not be burnt. Everyone was exited about when the party would be.
That night when everyone went to bed, Inuyasha had put out the fire so the meat could smoke some and Sango put the food she had made already into a pot and put a lid over it.
Well what do you peoples think? I still haven't gotten any reviews at this point. I really REALLY need those reviews……*cries a little* ………Well until next time. Bah bye.
