Prologue: Tragedy Strikes

Kagome slipped on her giant backpack with a heavy groan. It had been over stuffed with packs of Raman, candy for Shippo, and a few of her textbooks. She knew that she probably wouldn't have any time to study any of them but decided in bringing them, just in case. Then she grabbed her bow and her arrows. Saying bye to her cat, Buyo, she went down headed down stairs.

“Mom! I'm leaving now, I'll see you later.”

“Bye sweetheart. Stay safe, tell Inuyasha I said hi!” Kagome heard as she left the house.

Kagome shook her head as she remembered Inuyasha. They had had a fight before she left.

~Flashback~

“Kagome! What are you doing?!”

“I already told you I have two tests tomorrow. I have to take them.”

“I don't care about your stupid tests! We need to find the jewel shards! We'll never find them all if you keep going back to your time.”

“That's all you care about isn't it? The stupid jewel shards, so you can get your stupid wish!”

“Yeah, pretty much!”

“I can't believe you! I'm leaving and this time I'm not coming back!”

“Yeah right, wench!”

“Goodbye, Inuyasha.” Kagome said as she turned and left.

“If you don't come back I'm coming after you!”

She said nothing as she disappeared.

~End Flashback~

Ok so she said she wouldn't return but even she didn't believe that. She was in love with Inuyasha no matter how much of a jerk he was, and she knew that she would go back to help him.

She made it to the well house and stared down the well. Squinting slightly she saw the bottom of the well. Sighing she closed her eyes and jumped into the well, but something was wrong. There had been no light flashing through her closed lids and when she opened her eyes where there should have been vines to help her climb there where just the well wall. She turned around and saw a latter behind her. It was the one her mother had bought for her to climb up when she returned from the feudal era. This could only mean she was still home. Shock rushed through her this had happened before, but it couldn't happen again could it? Quickly she climbed up the ladder and jumped back in. this time she didn't close her eyes.

Again nothing happened, no blue lights surrounding her, no vines, and no fresh smell of the forest. Tears started to well in her eyes but she blinked several times to get rid of them. Maybe she had forgotten her jewel shard. She took off her backpack and unzipped a small pocket on the front of it. Reaching in Kagome pulled out a small glass jar. Holding it up to the light she saw that inside was a single jewel shard.

Sighing with relief she pressed the jar to her heart, it was the first one she had gotten with Inuyasha. She didn't know how she knew, she just did. Before returning to her time she had left the other jewel shards with Sango, knowing she'd take care of them.

With the jar still in her hand she tried the well again, and again, and again. And still nothing happened. Again tears welled up and again she wiped them away. Suddenly she heard a scream, it sounded like her mother. She grabbed her bow and one arrow, and then rushed to her house.

Rushing to the front of my house I saw that the door had been flung open, and fear rushed over her. She ran inside and to the kitchen where her mother had been last. But instead of her mother standing there with her back to Kagome, making breakfast, she was on the floor lying lifeless in her blood with a man standing above her. Her mother's clothes were ripped apart and she laid there almost naked. The man must have heard her cause he slowly turned around and faced her. Kagome had been wrong about the man thing; he was actually a demon, a cat one. Her breath grew harsher as her body filled with dread, fear, but most of all anger.

The demon licked his lips and stepped closer, “Oh, another luscious girl. I couldn't ask for more.”

Before the demon could blink an eye Kagome had her bow out and an arrow in it, and had it pointed right at him. The demon only laughed at her pathetic ness and went to take another step closer. But before he could get his foot on the floor an arrow was deeply planted in his chest.

“A miko?” he said as pain and shock shoot through the demon, but he quickly reacted and rushed the girl.

Kagome cursed, she had missed his heart. She reached behind her and grabbed another arrow but before she could get it in her bow the demon tackled her to the ground. Out of shock she lost her grip on her bow and it slid across her kitchen floor. The demon quickly grabbed both of her wrists and leaned down over her.

“You, bitch. This was my favorite shirt,” Kagome started to struggle more and trying to get free. “Oh, a feisty one, just like your mother and the little boy. I was hoping you'd be as easy as the old man. But don't worry I'll get you to submit.”

Before she could react he released one of her wrists grabbed her chin and yanked to the side. The sudden sharp pain in her shoulder made her react. Remembering she still had an arrow in her hand. She shoved it in his heart through his back with all of her strength. The demon released his grip on her shoulder and brought his head up to stare in shock at her.

“No one hurts my family, you ass.”

His eyes fluttered closed and his body collapsed on her. She let him lay on her like that not having any strength. Her breath started getting slower and slower, the blood in her shoulder rush in out, she also felt the blood from her first arrow was spilling onto her and mixing with her own.

Her thoughts were starting to fade; the last coherent thoughts were of her love as she passed out. “Inuyasha.”

Inuyasha's ear twitched out of irritation. Where was Kagome? He was starting to get really angry. She couldn't have been serious about not coming back. Or could she? Inuyasha jumped down from where he was sitting in a tree. Miroku and Sango didn't even glance up, but Shippo was kind enough to glare at him. Inuyasha growled, they hadn't been talking to him since his fight with Kagome. Well except for the few names they mumbled when he was around.

“Fine, I'll go get her!”

Inuyasha went to the well the entire way mumbling about how stupid they all were. He finally reached the well and jumped in, but when he hit the well floor he realized nothing happened. What the hell? He got out and tried it again, and again, and again. The well just wasn't working.
